I've worked in cabinetry. After gluing up your drawer faces and clamping, on the back side shoot in some small staples through the tongue and groove intersections then you can remove the clamps. That's what we always did. I now work in a doormill building interior/exterior doors.
@@WesHamstra Oh it's definitely happening. I have a couple other projects to finish first, and I'm working on learning Sketchup for the dresser design.
Lovely work Wes! This was the first video i have watched of yours and was impressed with your workmanship. I love that you used red oak which is nice and easy to find yet high quality. Video was educational. I think the only thing that would make this better is add a cut list to show what you used which would be nice. Overall very impressive.
Hi. Do you have any plans or written information I could view or purchase of this design? My wife loves the look, and wants me to make several as we are expecting our first child and sure gonna need all the storage we can get! Thanks
That's alot of tools that I don't have. A chop saw, a table saw, some clamps and a sander is all I have and I'm gonna have to make that be enough to build the dresser I want
Very nice dresser. 👍🏻 I'm not so sure about the skirting down to the floor though. I'd have left some clearance at the bottom to account for unevenness in the floor. Enjoyed the video regardless.
Very nice work! I have been thinking of doing a similar project in a similar style. You inspired me to give it a try soon. I Iook forward to more of your videos.
pigroper5 thanks, I don’t know what your woodworking skill is like but it is a pretty easy build. Just make sure your dresser and drawers are 100% square
@@WesHamstra Thank you, I will give it a go. I've built a few projects, but not something with drawers. I need to draw up a plan and figure out the size that works for me. Your concept on the construction of sides and drawer rails inside looks good and straight forward.
Amazing. Would love to learn to make simply because I can’t stand the furniture they sell in stores nowadays. I hate flimsy drawer bottoms. Thin particle board paper mache. I need thick solid wood drawer bottoms. I need to know the weight of my clothes will not bend nor break those bottoms
marcelo403 polo honestly I wouldn’t, I wish I. Bought the porter cable. I am finding the build quality isn’t that great. I’ve had to glue knobs back on that fell off
I have a very old piece that has one side built like this and I want to make the other side match. I am so new to all of this so I have a dumb question but is that a router you are using to make the tongue and grove portion on the side panels?
I used birch plywood for the drawers. Everything else was red oak veneer. If you are using white oak I would use white oak veneer plywood. I would still use birch ply for the drawers.
Hey wes, what size dovetail router bit did you use with your jig? I've got an almost identical dovetail jig and even the cutter that came with it would not produce fitted joints... no matter how deep or shallow the cuts, the joint is loose... tried various other cutters and either too loose or to tight... seems quite finicky with the correct size cutter! Lovely cabinet you made there! Great demonstration of a high tariff build made to look very easy 👌
Thanks for this video, it’s very cool. Could you say to the nearest $50 how much the lumber for this cost? I want to build my own dresser but I’m worried it would be cheaper to just buy one

Very nice work. I’m planning to build a tall chest of drawers in a similar style out of cherry. Just out of curiosity (no criticism intended), did you consider other joinery options before using pocket holes? Was there a reason to use pocket holes other than convenience? Thanks!
Great build and great video! I love the styling and you made the build look easy! My only feedback is it would have been nice to get the grain patterns matched up a bit on all the stiles of the drawer fronts so that it flowed more from top to bottom. Same for the rails. A minor thing on such a beautiful build, but just something that I noticed. Subscribed and will definitely be following your work in the future!
kevrobster thanks. What you don’t know is that I spent a lot of time sorting and arranging the wood so that it would look good. Getting it to all flow is a lot harder the. It looks. I decided to make it random, I figured that would look better
@@WesHamstra I know it can be tough! It seems like the stock that is available never is quite right to make it how you want so you just make the best with what you have! But at any rate my point is moot given that you slaved over it and did the best you could! I'll keep my mouth shut and just enjoy the builds 😁.
Beautiful and simple. I love all the old school machines you're running.
Matt Groters thanks, old school? As in not cnc?
As in real man tools... keep it up dude.
"Old school" machines? Where?

Would be nice if you'd link to a dimensioned plan and cut list with step-by-step build instructions and tips. I'd gladly pay for them 🙂

Very nice piece Wes. A handsome addition to any room.
Jim Dockrell thanks, Jim
Great build. Beautiful piece. It sorta looks like a chest of drawers, only shorter. I might do one myself. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Thanks, That was kind of the look I was going for. It stands about 42" high
Really nice build. Like your pace while building.
That turned out very nice. I'm working myself up to take on a very similar project.

Why didn’t you use the router for the side panel’s?
I’m just wondering because I’m trying to mimic your build

Who made the dove tail jig that you used? The dresser looks great.

what was the clamp/jig that you used for the drawers when you were routing?
When working with the Kreg do you drill the holes from the inside or the outside?
Awesome build! Was the skirting at the bottom for looks or strength?
VampireOnline thanks, it’s only for looks. Mostly so you don’t need to clean underneath. It is completely optional.
What made you decide to use birch plywood? Also, if you were doing this with white oak what plywood would you recommend?
