      You can make a TRAC makes FIR filter for you. You dont need to spend the time butchering your eq to get the results.
      Keep in mind that you still have to have good coherency on smaart before capturing for averages.

    And what about coherence? If you have a uneven response like in the video, you also need the coherence to make a solid interpretation of the measurement. It is totally wrong to stupidly create an FIR-Filter that compensates a Measurement with low coherence which is of course corrupted by a lot of factores (for Example reflections of all kinds)

      Except someone has to know how to set it up, how to plan for and compensate for less than ideal presenters/musicians….they may be able to replace some of what we do with machines and software but in the end, what we do is art and that requires a human to do….i have zero qualms with a piece of gear that will handle any feedback issues that may popup as long as it does it in a only when needed sort of way, like a dynamixc band versus using a parametric that always present in the overall mix

It starts out funny when they dont understand why the pencil and paper, then gets hilarious when you explain how many freqs they will have to check for and then downright hysterical when they ask what the formula is and you explain for every freq you need they have to run it against every other.......you can tell when they've finished doing the quick math in their heads and realize how many times they will have to run thru it for just 8 mics......i save that task for “ Mr or Ms I know everything/My cellphone is more important than doing my job”

  • @SHONSL
    @SHONSL 3 года назад +7

    Yeah...
    Step 1 where you measure the response of the venue is already misleading.
    You want the response of the venue as heard by the audience, and NOT only the mixing seat.
    It might make more sense to capture an averaged response from a field of mics, scattered around where the audience will be.
    Great, so after you've tuned your system for audience positioning (room response) and time-aligned, then you have to account for when the audience is actually present. As we all know, a crowd of people will damp and attenuate signals, as well as reduce SNR, though on the plus side they help scatter room modes. From this point, you can pick your poison for coping with the audience.
    Maybe use a preset to estimate damping, for various crowd sizes (this method is static and sort of dumb).
    Or maybe keep field mics in place and use signal coherence (with averaging) to estimate how source-to-receiving transfer functions change under the presence of an audience. Now we're talkin'!

    • @carlosbelloso1908
      @carlosbelloso1908 2 года назад +2

      It’s his choice where he measures as long as you take into account that not every place will be in alignment. If you measure in the audience area, your FOH can end up in a null. It’s what Bob McCarthy and Merlijn Van Veen refer to as a democracy vs a monarchy. One way or another it is still a compromise.
