    I now use this tool on each channel with acoustics with active pickups and vocal mics (8 in all). It does a nice job to 'ring out' each instrument and yields better sound all around. Tip: I narrow the bandwidth of what it automatically selects to not take out too much natural sound, then test again and save the settings. A very worth while tool.

    It looks like a great plug-in but right at the end when you compare the corrected vs. bypass you cheat a little by using your hand cupped over the microphone to aggravate feedback when bypassed but use only your voice when you are using correction. I would like to have heard corrected vs. bypass on a level playing field by cupping the mic for both examples as worse case scenario. Apples & oranges Val...

    This X-FDBK normally costs $150, is now just $30! I'm seeing this from the USA; maybe prices are different elsewhere. Grand! People spend thousands of dollars for stage equipment, and they surely need to use this app. But obviously, the laptop with the app would need to stay connected to a USB-connected mixer during the entire performance.

    If this is pre-soundcheck, how does it fare after your singer has been EQd?

    • @waves
      @waves  8 лет назад +6

      +JamesMulvale In most cases channel EQ boosting during sound-check should be within 2-4 dB range. If so, make your X-FDBK cuts deeper by 2-3 dB by turning Global AMP left. So long as you are not using EQ with a lot of boost, which is a bad idea in the first place, there will be no problems. Regardless of what you do with EQ, having the ring-out done properly will help, and the ability to globally crank up the amount of feedback correction enables a quick solution to somebody making feedback with excessive boosting.

    • @snapascrew
      @snapascrew 8 лет назад +1

      you could do what I do and solo your lead vocal mic in really flat headphones or IEMs and pre-eq your mic before ringing out then ring out after, or you could try the exact opposite and do x-feedback first... but then if you do any "additive eq" it may cause a problem. Try it both ways and see how you like it. For me if I'm using a wireless beta 58 (almost all of the time) I already know what EQ I'm going to do anyways.

    • @HTDav01
      @HTDav01 6 лет назад +4

      Here's a tip from the studio that can help in EQ live. When you want to make something brighter, instead of upping some high mid or high, just cut everything else and add a slight fader increase. This gives you effectively the same general curve without increasing frequencies you already rang out. When you need to boost more than that, drop your ring frequencies by at least that much in your FB kill setup, then adjust slowly from there to get a nice clear tone. It takes only a second to trim a fat channel down or up, and you'll be keeping the headroom in your formant ranges rather than decreasing it by raising that field. You may lose a little DB but increasing afterward should return the total loudness, splitting the functional increase among the frequencies without over driving those you rang out. You should still apply more drop to those rang out frequencies, but only a little. This then takes about a minute to 3 minutes per input, cutting your soundcheck time down. If you increase first, you have to adjust the drop frequencies, then adjust the fat eq again, then adjust the drop again and so on. Start with a decrease in those opposite your desire, and you'll get your color without a lot of back and forth.
      In the studio, sometimes getting a decent balance in EQ or between instruments, you don't increase the one item that offends, you decrease everything else. You bus it all, then drop it until the balance is close or dead on, then divide the balance by the number of instruments and round up to 0.3, 0.5, 0.9, 3, 6, and 10. Decrease all instruments by that amount, and then adjust back up to bring some back in as necessary, but extremely slow. Some will need another decrease of a slight touch rather than an increase, but almost every instance I've dealt with needs an increase of 0.1 or 0.2 after the initial drop. This maintains the color and fusion of the instruments as they sit together without increasing my overall volume, and I can then master at the end to maximize it.

    is there a possibility to add this great plugin to a non-digital mixer?

    • @thatoneaudioguy2960
      @thatoneaudioguy2960 8 лет назад +1

      +Yann W The only way I can think of is to run an audio interface/computer with the same amount of inputs and outputs as the mixer before the board, and have the signal running thru a DAW that can run this plugin with little latency.

    • @waves
      @waves  8 лет назад +4

      +Malcolm Z Hi guys, the most professional way to get X-FDBK working with a non-digital mixer is to use DiGiGrid IOC with a designated SoundGrid Server and then load up XFDBK with MultiRack. Honestly, you'd probably be better off with a dbx driverack pa+ or something similar. Sure, the plugin is $99, but the SoundGrid server + DigiGrid interface will cost more than an entry level digital mixer.
      I've used the dbx AFS feature and it does the same thing, minus the graphical interface. Plus, you get plenty of other features for $300 or so.

    This way to eliminate the feedback produce a bad quality sound due to the eccessive equalization of the audio systems, the best way is to buy high quality monitors and PA filled with dedicated DSP and amplifier.
