DD probably has the best magic out of any game I've played, loved playing as a mage and can't believe i didn't know you could enchant yourself! time to redownload and do another mage run!
I remember enchanting myself by accident and desperately trying to find out how I did it, then note and behold - finding out that that's also how to manually aim offensive and AoE spells, just then I realized how amazing magic in this game really is!
I VERY much approve of the music you use when you mage hover in the video. Our song of hope she dances on the wind, Higher, oh higher, E'er our vows endure, and remain forever strong, standing tall in the dark do we carry on.. On wings of hope we carry through the night, higher, oh higher, carrying our song cradled fast in our arms... I see we both have great taste in games.
Excellent series of videos, really excited for the rest of them! :) For anyone playing on Keyboard, to self enchant you just need to press Shift before releasing any spell and the skill will lock on your own character. This also allows for free aim for offensive spells like Ingle.

Love the inclusion of the theme song to Summoner in there!!!!!! Love that game. I'm currently playing as a Sorcerer in my new run. I absolutely love the spells that the Arisen can learn. I am going to spec him as a mage once he is a higher level! I've played Dragon's Dogma for years and have just now dipped my toes into being a spell caster. Usually my pawn is!
@@ThiefofCrystals Summoner is one of those rough diamonds. It was amazing and I keep meaning to boot up the PS2 and play it again. Yeah, I am really enjoying slinging spells around. Even though I have to keep myself safe so I can cast. It is so much fun.
As a Mage, I would use offensive spells such as High Ingle/Comestion, High Levin/Brontide, and High Frigor. My secondary skills are Fire and Holy Afffinity, plus High Grapnel (I use it mainly when a large enemy is downed, which gives my pawns enough time to do some serious damage). My Mage Pawn, will not use offense at all, instead they will support. The skills are High Anodyne, Halidom, and Spellscreen, along with Fire + Holy Affinity and High Grapnel (this last spell works in tandem with a Rusted Staff fully upgraded for further debilitations)
I'd actually say- go ahead and use Frazil if you are headed for the water temple, or someplace where you expect to fight a lot of regular Saurians. They are *very* vulnerable to freezing and it completely trivializes the fight. Don't use it on Yellow Sulpher Saurians. Use fire on those instead.
I think its also worth mentioning you can eyeball certain skills like ingle. Just press the Affinity spell self cast button (Shift for PC) while you're casting. And you can manually fire your skills. also works for certain AOE spells. Great to recast your Ingle if the auto target messes up
You can't talk about focused bolt without teaching people the trick to using it more effectively. Press and hold the light attack button the jump, you will cancel the attack animation and start charging the Focused Bolt while giving you more maneuverability, three levels into warrior to get ferocity augment will increase the moves damage. Anodyne will also deal a tiny bit of damage to undead and life sap to get back some of the white portion of your health, not overly useful but it helps. L3 changes the targeting of moves like Ingle - grapnel will give you a targeting cursor, levin a single striking location and Anodyne will reset the target close to the caster. I use the cursor with high/grand ingle and move it mid attack to spray multiple goblins with one casting and target specific parts on large monsters. Mage is the class I would play if DD had true multiplayer.
Im currently doing a Mage run. Bring a pawn that can tank and has the Pioneer as its first behavior, then make sure you dont run head first into combat, let pawns initiate; that will let you use the close quarter spells. Blearing is specially good against Cockatrice.

Ok Dragon's Dogma I bought it recently I have 38 hours of play where I restart every time because I am undecided about what class to do BUT what I hear in the background is the FFX hymn of faith like deserved
Mage is a class that I always bring along in my partty usually my own pawn, it may not be a natural disaster like the sorcerer, but those flashy spells take a long time to cast and can be interrupted. Mage gives you medium to fast casting spells, a healing spell and another to cure most status effects, grapnell for binding big bastards and a few good elemental spells for damage or enchantments make a mage a pretty solid class even at high levels.
Sorc also can cure status ailments, does more damage, and healing isn't a problem at endgame since everything one shots, it's just a dps race at that point and I'll take big dick sorceror for that over puny mage blasts.
@@DragoonCenten that's a matter of preference, i usually play as a magic class so I do the big magic damage and my pawn supports. Mage is a better support caster than a sorcerer, the only ilments a sorcerer can cure than a mage can't are debuffs and petrification and if I get petrification I rather cure it myself than wait for the pawn to do so. If I'm playing a phisical class like assassin or fighter I tend to bring a sorcerer with a mage and another range or tank pawn. Playing as a sorcerer is a blast tho
