First off, want to say that I've really been enjoying this series, thank you so much for these, and please keep them coming! Just one critique is that the beginning gameplay footage seemed way too dark. Ironically it got brighter after you crapped on Radiance as an augment.
LMAO I was actually intending to lampshade that (pun intended.) Ironically, despite me dunking on lanterns, it would legitimately be beneficial for me to use it in some areas purely for the sake of good lighting in my videos lol!

Ranger is a great class for power leveling: blast arrows trivialize all enemies, balanced stat growth and highest stamina gain per level, which imo is even more important than strength or magic if you're not just going for max damage but just want to have fun.

I would power lvl assassin. Great strength and defense spread and only has 5 less stamina per level to that of ranger.
@@sethsword9680 True, but Ranger has a pretty balanced stat growth in terms of magic and strength, and even defense, which is better if you want to use the character to play all vocations. Jack of all trades style
@@sethsword9680assassin gets 27 stamina per level vs ranger's 30, and while assassin gets better strength growth, its defensive growth is appalling; ranger gets slightly better magic and magic defense as well. I concur with the OP; Ranger is a solid class for power leveling.
Now as far as pawns go, I've got a pawn who I just switched to a ranger at level 45 after going 1-10 fighter and 11-44 as a warrior. I'm an advocate for using ranger and warrior pretty evenly for raising pawns, as I've loved the results without failure. Sorcerer for the last hundred levels isn't a bad way to go either, but there's nothing wrong with going fighter for health and defense, or ranger/warrior for more strength. Even strider has it's uses post 100; despite it's meager stat growth, it's still balanced across the board.

I started playing ranger for the very first time in my recent playthrough (played off and on since 2016 and warrior is really fun for me.) This might be tied for my favorite class now, like I love Warrior to death, Assassin was great against bosses especially, but holy hell have never seen enemies drop so fast. Love it.
Ranger it's a beast and if played well enough more powerfull than the overhyped assassin (no need to carry tons of blast arrows/shields/swords) or the crazy bag that it's the magic archer. I would say that great gamble looks awsome in paper, but deathly shot can give you the same results without forcing yourself to carry hundreds of shrooms.
Ranger is so much fun also!!!! I like the slightly slower aiming and charging than strider but, that power behind shots! A really good ranger pawn is worth a bundle in a BBI run! Again with the summoner music!!!! I've got that mix on my playlist. Great for playing during fight sequences!
I'm a big fan, simply had to include it, only felt fitting for the Mage's big brother

Love these guides, I'm watching them cause I've started playing DD for the first time and I wanted to make an educated choice before committing.
It's My first playthrough ( Somehow this amazing game managed to evade me all these these years) and I've chosen to start Ranger on Hard mode, it was pretty hard to survive at the beginning as everything kills you in one shot, but now I'm in Grand Soren and I'm able to take some hits, if I take them since I have the dodge roll now, and even one shot cyclops with great gamble.
So far I'm having a blast with both gameplay and the story, def Goty for me.

@@ThiefofCrystals Honestly, Yes and no, I'm def happy about the prospect of a sequel, but I'm also a bit skeptical towards modern gaming, I'm intrigued but I'm also afraid of forced politics, greed and corporate.
I'm definitely loving with the first game, no doubt I'm getting surprised with how everything is, the world, soundtrack, monsters, characters and designs are quite of my liking, amazing to say the least, also the gameplay it's pretty tasty, the story is intriguing, I love how fun they've made these classes and the combat system is chef's kiss.
Aside from all these things, so far I'm very surprised with the amount of immersion this game gives you, I absolutely love when pawns immediately comment and react after every single quest and situation, offering their advice and opinion.
Honestly, I've missed games like these for many years, DD is a product of its time that aged like fine wine and, the more I play, the more I can tell that it's absolutely the labor of love and passion from an era where people honestly wanted to make Videogames for fun first and money second.
Also for some reason, some things ingame reminds me a bit of Berserk. @.@

@@lewdjiggle2011 Yeah the game does have certain inspirations from Berserk (you could even get Guts and Griffith armor sets in the original version) but very much manages to be its own thing, and a lot more optimistic in my opinion.
I can definitely understand caution towards modern gaming, but I absolutely have faith in Itsuno after he brought us DMC5! DD2 is shaping up to be the game he wanted to make with the original title, but couldn't due to lack of time and resources.
I like how people hate on briliant ranger class in DAO. It shows how much people dont understant that class at all. If u build it right and give it a bit practice it s one of the highest cc/DPS classes.
Secondly Spiral arrow is the must have for any ranger. Debilitations and elemental shot decimates enemy no matter his weaknes procs. U can freeze multiple enemies with one shot or sleep group with one as well.

@@ThiefofCrystals sure my man find out recently some stuff and it totally changes how I play the class. All u need is spiral tier 2 and grand gamble with elemental and debilitations and u re good to go. It makes this class my favorite.
I feel like the issue isn't effectiveness. It's that it doesn't feel great to play as an archer class lol

This is the reason I got Dragon's Dogma. A game that does ranged combat right. Too many rpg focus on sneaky bow attacks, nothing wrong with that but when it goes tits up bow is useless. This game, you have enough bow skills to suit any ranged play style, plus the melee skills can be used to escape, cc or damage.

This games just such an incredible experience :) I can not wait for dragon's dogma 2 to come out finally. It's gonna be lit yo :D, I'm so glad I gave this game a chance a few years ago because at first glance I thought it would be mediocre but after playing it this game is anything but that. It's one of the most fun rpg systems I ever have got to play :).

I just make a brand new character to test all the yellow vocation that I didn't really play with in my 500 hours and I'm loving it. I even switched to mouse and keyboard to be deadass precise with my arrow.

I absolutely love giving my ranger pawns Fearful Din with as much stagger power as can be mustered. They tend to spam the everloving crap out of it at times, but god damn it creates some truly hilarious moments and it also makes for fantastic synergy in combat with all the openings it can create. I once killed Feste with it myself by spiking his head into the ceiling over and over. 🤣🤣🤣
I like to run my ranger pawns with Fearful Din, Tenfold Flurry and nothing else. The results have never disappointed me, and I've gotten pretty good feedback over the years as well, though I was much more active back in the day on the PS3 😎
Can you include leveling information in these videos? Meaning what classes would be useful to level with if you want to play a certain class as your "main?"
This is a fair request, although in my opinion this only holds much weight if you want a specific focus towards attack, magic, or tankiness. Otherwise, you're basically gonna end up being a beast at later levels no matter what.
Assassin gets the largest attack gains in the game, so focus that if you wanna deal extra high damage.
Sorcerers have the highest magic attack gains, so those going in with a focus on magic should opt for that.
Warrior for physical defense, and Mystick Knight for magick defense.
Keep in mind, these strengths are typically paid for with distinctly low stat growths in other areas (not the case for MK.) As far as I can tell, every other class is generally rather balanced. I hope this helps you!

Loving your editing style and humour, they're both right up my alley. Been in love with this game for a long while too, so I'm really enjoying these guides, even if I'm not learning a whole lot. Very very good..I completed the Game as strider once. Believe it or Not: I did not realize that you learn skills 🤦🤦🤦 yeah sounds stupid. I Played the whole game with just standard attacks 😂😂😂 never used ANY fucking skill. I Play on switch. Now I will start a new game with Ranger AND skills 💪

Tried Warrior on Bitterblack at like level 60 then changed to Ranger with no Dragonforged Weapons and just pretty much waltzed through it on Ranger a few years ago.
Parapets, Tenfold Flurry and Blast Arrows for Daimon should quite literally be illegal. It's actually absurd. Rinsed every boss with just tenfold without any real buffs or Bomb Arrows but that was disgusting.

You'll get to swap vocations once you reach Gran Soren, just talk to the innkeeper there, Asalam. You'll have full access to all vocations, just need discipline points to unlock them (those build naturally as you fight things ect.)
if they fixed Preemption, that would pair really well with great gamble (which lets be honest here, it really should)

Ranger was my favorite since the first demo back on PS3, just the power, reach & accuracy, knocking back enemies, and yes I use radiance, feeling old 😂

Im 16 hours in and lvl 32 mostly as a magic archer and i used radiance for most of the game. So yes im that guy. im switching to strider though because i maxed out the vocation level and my stats seem pretty bad. Usable but bad. Also I basically have barely used strider and i need better augments clearly. Ill switch to ranger next because im not a fan of aiming with a controller and i dont like using mouse and keyboard in a action game.

You probably already learned this game, I know. But yes, somehow Magick Archer only have a mid mag stat growth, you need to use mage or sorcerer to raise your mag and some ranger for a bit of stamina

It's absolutely fucked that you have to steer your Great Gamble shot with the LEFT stick.
P.S. For sorcerer you need to cast maelstrom in a BBI room with hanging bodies. They spin crazy fast forever and you can still hang on them.
I mostly use endecad to skeet shoot harpies

Very late comment but in my personal opinion, Radiance should have been a Magica Archer skill since the whole gimmick of that class is based on exploring.

Sleep Spiral Arrow + Reaper/Deathly Arrow or Petrify Spiral Arrow alone is just too good that it can immediately makes alot of fight EZ that you need to try really hard to make it fail..
Folks are 100% welcome to explain anything I missed in the comments so that it's at least somewhere for people to potentially see, I did in practice find that Spiral Arrow was actually pretty good hence the brief mention of it being cracked but there's a whole lot to consider at once when making these videos and while I really am doing my best some stuff is naturally gonna slip through the cracks, all I can do there is apologize and hope that the effort I put into things as a whole is enough to make up for that fact.

I love the Ranger but it is absolutely a late/end game class. At lower levels longbow skills will drain your stamina in a heartbeat.
Only really true on hard mode. Plus it has the best stamina growth in the game, so it can be worth the pain. In fact, if you can swing it, it usually is. 🙃

Ranger is boring, you can only use 3 archery skills, it become boring soon, like Warrior. At least Warrior have some core movesets and jumping attacks, but Ranger have none making it even more boring than Warrior. Since we focused on long range battle, we won't be using those dagger skills, making all of them wasted.
While I understand where you're coming from, I can't personally agree. Long range is definitely the focus and when a fight's going your way an enemy won't be able to reach you, but not all of them will play ball and although I recommended Endecad in place of daggers it takes a minute to set up, so when you need a fast and effective option in close-to-mid range daggers are still your best bet and you benefit from fantastic skills like Cutting Wind and Hundred Kisses. Also, it absolutely does have access to core movesets and jumping attacks, I'm not sure why that's a concern.

@@MizanQistina I'm referring to the daggers, it has the same core skills as all yellow classes. And funnily enough, you actually can fire the bow after jumping if you're in the air long enough.
@@ThiefofCrystals If want to play melee better to take melee class, Ranger supposed to be range focused and it is boring.
@@MizanQistina It's perfectly fine if you simply don't enjoy it, that's entirely subjective though, just as people have fun with Warrior plenty have fun with Ranger too.

You're only allocated one save file. Most likely to manage the pawn system and prevent exploits within it.
