I like that Cassie is using a light when welding. I've struggled for a while with sometimes losing my line of sight when welding but found that using an extra light really helped alot.
The first time I wheeled Daniel at Uwharrie (you guys remember that!) I was with a TJ and had the same issue. Guy would pop his spring out and like a pit crew me and my buddies would get under and push the Jeep and pop the spring in. Happened like 7 times on that trail and was a great time! Love Barnes stuff, and love cutting stuff off and welding superior stuff on! Awesome video and the LJ is getting more and more badass!
I was extremely impressed by how much travel this thing has! I have a TJR on 35’s and a short arm 4” and I might have to look into this kit! that travel is insane, I thought you could really only get that by going to coils
You just need to make sure your shock extended compressed lengths work for you. You only need about 4.5-5.5 inches of up travel. Just keep that in mind and figure out what compressed length you need to get that amount of up travel and that should increase your flex significantly
I love this channel. You guys have such a better show then anything on Sunday morning! Great chemistry and content! Thank you for all the hard work that you guys do to put great videos together, it's not easy.
Great video, I have a 2006 LJ myself and just finished doing the same install of coil correction pads and outboard my shocks. Love watching you work on your own LJ and then wheeling the snot out of it!!!!!!!
Love watching you guys! Cassie is a great welder! Barnes makes some great stuff too! I have Rock Krawler triple rate springs which eliminate springs popping out at full flex. Them and the Fox Shocks really upgraded my JKU Rubicon ride! Cant wait to meet up with you guys wheeling!
Awesome video.. We had a blast meeting you two at Crossbar on Saturday.. wish we could have stayed longer and wheeled a little more...Adulting and all... keep up the good work...
Since any flex with no chassis weight on the axle has nearly zero benefits a simple limiting strap cures your issue. A lifted tire has nearly the same traction as a tire contacting the ground with no chassis weight on it unless you're using extremely heavy axles like a 14 bolt or a dana 80 even with heavy bead locks and 40s. Yours is one of my favorite Jeep channels. You keep it interesting and fun. Well done as always. Would add the limiting straps even with the relocated spring buckets. Of course, I am all about light weight so your priorities may differ.
I agree with you in regards to traction. However downtravel can have more benefits than traction, such as keeping the jeep more level during a flex situation (which is what I like). I’d rather have more travel, than less travel. Even if not needed. A limit strap would have helped, but why limit it when you can go more? That’s like asking a tj owner why they are running 12” coilovers in the rear when they could just go with 10s. I’m not an expert in 4 links and antisquat, however I think that even a tiny bit of traction on a wheel that’s fully flexed (even with little weight on the tire) can transfer a good amount of traction and energy through the chassis due to the anti squat and recurring path of torque.
if you already haven’t done it . get yourself some duel rate coils. they won’t pop out at all. i e got them with no limit straps and a 6” long arm kit. never had one coil pop
Having the springs pop out is an issue. But, having an axle droop so far that the spring can come out does you no good offroad. That tire is carrying no weight. You also meet to get longer springs and/or limit straps. Multi rate springs will allow for the same ride height but will droop and retain pressure on the drooped wheel.
4 link and antisquat will do more with torque transfer than a multi rate spring with a long free length and top wound coils with less than 30 in/lbs of spring rate. Took it wheeling over the weekend and it did phenomenal
You'd be surprised how much just having the weight of just the axle and tire touching down will help you. It's 100's of lbs and it's not like the downforce from a duel rate coil will help much if you compare both at the same amount of droop.
Idk how y'all still find the enjoyment of working on your rigs, I'm so over working on my jku that I've decided after I finish up this 14 bolt I'm through lol I had ORI and rear triangulated system in the works that I completely scratched and said f it I'll drag my rear long arm brackets on rocks and ill stick with my fancy shocks and coil springs lmao
Cassie, I am looking at getting the long arm kit from Barnes when it comes back in stock. My question is I have a 4 inch rear stretch on my lj. Is there enough dom tube to accommodate my stretch or would I need to call them and get longer tube? Thanks!
Hell we talked about the spring bucket with you way back before ya’ll moved to Texas , and ya answered me and said yea we got a fix for that 😂😂😂 ,, glad to see after a decade🤣🤣 ya got it fixed … did ya get the lockers fixed 🤷♀️
Ben and Cassie, Just a question, I have a 2006 Jeep LJ, and I have a set of 6 inch Metal Cloak dual rate springs sitting in boxes in my garage. I don't know what level lift you are going for on the LJ, let me know, Rob...
I didn't see you mention it at all, how did you ensure you didn't change ride height when moving the spring perch? FWIW lots of us that go long travel don't do coil overs (nor long arms) - we just outboard with a 12" shock biased 50/50.
When yall get a new garage door call alco over head doorrrrr i wanna meet yalll and yall get a new door win win!! Plus imma fan so yk your door will be done good:))))
Kind of a bad design Jeep has. I mean everyone lifts their jeeps as I did my 2001 Jeep Cherokee xj. Don’t drop your bump stops or springs WTH are ya doing wheelies too ! You go girl.
Takes the fun out of the experience in my opinion. Jeeping and working on your own rigs is fun. No point in owning a street legal jeep and trailering it everywhere…. If I was going to trailer something I would build a badass buggy and trailer that everywhere. But this is just my opinion, to each their own!
@@JeepGearGadgets yeah I hear ya. I just seen people including myself that have street legal jeeps out wheeling and break something where you don't have the parts so then you either have to pay for tow or borrow someone's trailer. I have friends with street legal jeeps like yours and trailer them. But you're right, to each their own. Bad a$$ rigs y'all have and keep up the great work!
Yeah those are a great option. But this shows a very inexpensive way to keep coil springs and still have a ton of flex. Too many people jump straight to coilovers or ORIs
So I don't care what people do to their own vehicles. But don't you have to have a special certification to weld stuff for a vehicle? To still comply with DOT standard or something?
@@JeepGearGadgets really? I am no expert. I am currently stationed overseas and have witnessed people having issues shipping their cars back to America if their windshield and tires don't have DOT stamps

Well, those are coils, so there's that. And it will definitely flex more when you done attach the coil to anything on one end.

Great project and awesome fix! You are a Beast at welding and Flexin!!
You make this look easy; I don’t have a the tools or the skill set to do these kinds of modifications so I live vicariously through your channel. ✌🏼
You can do a coil correction on the cheap also. Cut the original bracket off turn it around backwards reweld ..done.. and FREE
Nice work guys. Thanks for showing that you can wheel on coils just like you can still wheel on leaf springs lol.

Time to outboard the rear shocks. Great video
Metalcloak makes a little angle correction plate that angles the coil more forward but yeah you could move the whole bucket too.
@Jeep Gear & Gadgets yea a how i learned to weld, tips and tricks to get people going would be a great video :)

do you guys do custom work? would love to drop a couple jeeps off.. also you said my name at 8:27 lol thanks
we def need an lj update!

Have yall ever put an "electric" version of A/C in a Jeep and do you like it???? What brands do you like for aftermarket electric AC??? thanks.

Scam
Great video! I'm fixing to do the same thing. Quick question, why didn't you outboard the shocks while in there?
Ive seen people outboard the shocks while relocating the spring mounts. Did you guys consider this?
Yeah, but for now I don’t really need anymore travel. Will outboard later down the road when I switch to coilovers

Where are you guys haven't seen you in forever
when are you coming out with new videos
Can you please tell me where you got those rock side panel skins. Need them on my lj.
Is the rear sway bar connected in this video at the end?
Hey Cassie what's going on? How come you aren't posting anymore.
where are you guys is long time from last video?
Plasma cutter might be a worthy investment.
Luckily we have one! Just waiting on Ben to install the air compressor in the shop haha
What percentage does the 1 time use code get you off?
So do you love those Atturo tires???????????
Any new videos?

I never understood why they angled the rear. The relocate kit is super cheap
Probably been asked before but I didn't see it but how come y'all don't buy a 30' gooseneck trailer and a big truck to tow both your jeeps to events?

2 words: Limiting Straps
I want down travel. I don’t want to limit it
Limiting straps exist only for the purpose of protecting a shock from wear from overextension
