  • FIRST SOLO OVERNIGHT , After many years camping I wanted to do a SOLO overnight. Went with my Hennessy hammock tent and had a success camp out. Special thanks to @ Girl In the Woods and @ Alexis Outdoors for setting great examples of strong and resilient women outdoors. #hammocktents #womenoutdoors #solocamping

      Hi there Brooke and Wendy from North Pole AK. ❤ AT 62 yrs young I have been having a stirring for some independent adventuring. I see myself in you Wendy. Watching both your channels brings me joy and hope to get out there ! Brooke, my husband Joe Clark and I are good friends of the Stills. I told my husband he could leave me at our cabin in the woods for a week if he wanted to. 😊

    It's very encouraging to see older women like myself still having confident outdoor adventures, whether alone or not. I used to backpack with women friends in my 40s and we all had learning curves with our equipment, as well as living in the mountains for several days without men along. Our husbands & sons were in scouts together and having all the fun, so we decided to take matters into our own hands and venture out. Honestly, we had more fun that way too. I'm a new subscriber and look forward to all your videos now.

      Hi Becki, thanks for your comments. Yes, a group of women can have an absolutely great time together. Everyone just pitches in has ben my experience. I am pleased I have recently found a couple of women who also still like to camp out in a tent. I look forward to more trips with some company too.

    Oh my, I have just found your site and am so inspired! Just yesterday I decided I can’t live in fear so did a solo hike in the wilderness - well I had my little dog for company. My friends are older than my 72 yrs and have gradually dropped off hiking in the wilderness due to health reasons so I guess I have to start going on my own. I’m not a group hike person. So fortuitous to find your site today! You are so well spoken and not an alarmist. Thank you so much!

      Thanks Diane for your comments and for taking the time to watch. I’ve recently purchased a haven tent and set it up for the first time this week. I’ll put up a video with my thoughts. Not sure when I’ll get to sleep in it though. Not keen on freezing for the night🥶😂. Don’t think it matters were we go camping it’s getting out doing something we enjoy which matters. Take care

    Glad you made it back okay, I also watch Brooke's (and her husband Dave's) videos. Not too many of Alexis vids though...
    Seems to have been a nice adventure, you got guts! Ha! I dunno if I would do that alone, best to be with someone in my opinion. I don't mind being alone on adventures, but when it comes to water travel, I prefer another body around!

    That was great how you canoed to the island and spent the night solo. Really a lovely campsite. What part of the country are you camping in? I live in Washington state and I canoed camp with some friends to an island on Diablo Lake with some friends plus tent camped at a car campground on the Olympic Peninsula near the Pacific Ocean. I haven't camped in years but long to go to the Pacific Ocean again. I'm 70 now and no longer have a tent, but we'll see if I can borrow one or rent one? Thanks for sharing your solo adventure. Happy camping! Jenny ❤

    Wendy, how did you over come fear of being completely alone in the woods by the lake?? Bears are my only fear and I mean Only. Other that that I could do it
    Any advice you could give me. It’s keeping me in the house
    I’ve moved to Virginia where there are bears roaming about.
    I have all this camping gear from camping all the time in East Texas where there are next to no bears

    • @wendyoutdoors2230
      @wendyoutdoors2230  3 месяца назад

      Hello Sylvia-Im not familiar with your area so not sure how prevalent your bears are. Here they are mainly in the forested areas but many come into towns where garbage is a big attracter as well as fruit tress and gardens. Their habitant is being eroded here by development. Where I go mainly is into their area where there is lots of room and natural food for them. They aren't habituated to people so stay away. I still do a lot of self talk about reality vs fantasy and focus on what is actually present and real. I try very hard to not go down the road of making myself afraid, especially when nothing is actually happening. I also carry bear spray and always secure my food well away from my sleeping area. not sure if this is helpful.

    Awesome Wendy.
    You did it woo-hoo!
    But I do have to say that it seemed like you been camping solo for a long time.
    That's very awesome. 😅
    Oops 😬 🤭 I hit the send button to early lol 🙃 that's why it says edited 😂
    Thank you for sharing your awesome adventure with us I know I loved it that's for sure. So is that your cabin or did you just rent it for a few days. Just wondering 🤔 because that's something to be proud of also staying alone at a cabin. You are a very brave woman.
    Thanks again for sharing.
    GOD BLESS YOU
    KEEP ADVENTURING

      thank you very much. I have camped all my life , much of it in the backcountry so the transition there wasn't too hard but I was still nervous for sure. The little cabin is family project which my husband and I contributed to along with my son's family. I did help with the build so am proud of that. Im now quite good at putting in screws!!! lots of practice, lol !

    You are an awesome inspiration! I am also starting a YT Channel. However my adventures will be solo motorcycle camping...I have been going on solo camp trips since I was about 32, I'm 55 now.. and just love it.. one time I even packed super light, and with 2 trips I had my dog and all my gear on my paddleboardand went across the lake... similar to you in the canoe..but a little tougher balancing and what a blast... I usually car camp, but now after 1 year of backing research and now heading to baja for a bit, then 1 year in Australia... take care .you are amazing ..new like and sub here

    Hi Wendy. Found you from girl in the woods Thank you so much for doing this video. You are inspiring me. I think I’ll start gathering some equipment to do do this. That little camp stove being first. And that thing you use for coffee. What is that.??? Thank you my new friend ❤. Oh and some gloves too. How did you sleep??

    • @wendyoutdoors2230
      @wendyoutdoors2230  Год назад +1

      The little stove is called a solo lite. It can use alcohol or twigs. I really like it and use it a lot. The coffee thing is a silicone collapsible funnnel which I ordered on line. . Good luck and have fun with your adventures

    Wendy, I'm so impressed you tried a hammock. I could never do that. Aren't you afraid of bears? I'm going to go tent camping but I am afraid of bears.

      Well Suzanne- I know the chances in my area are very small and I also take lots of precautions. I weigh out the odds and come up with" a go for it". Everyone's situation is different.I feel It is important that each of us does our own research before making a decision.

    Cringed, watching you split your kindling. After your first stick, use it to distance yourself from the real danger of the blade bouncing. Press the tip of the stick down on the end of the board/log and whack away with abandon. Solo canoeing and camping is an exercise in prudence balanced with adventure.
