I'm glad I found this video. I'm currently 20 driving boxtrucks making deliveries for Pepsi. In the middle of getting my CDL right now. People get jealous but it takes alot of hustle and work to become successful. I'd rather begin my career sooner than later. ❤

Bro, I wish you the best, but be warned...
I still have my CDL, but I got out of the business after a year hauling beer. It's a great source of income if you have no wife or kids and are looking to save money.
Just don't waste your life doing it. It's long and irritating work, not to mention unhealthy. Being a fitness freak it almost killed me. Being on the road 12 hours a day had me thinking horrible thoughts; it will get to you after a while.
Also, another thing to consider. If you use your CDL and get paid (cpm), you will be denied any regular mortgage unless you have two years experience; Fannie Mae rules.
It was a painful lesson to me.

@@jblack8502 In your 20s is insanely hard. You have to work insane hours and be very aggressive and be almost perfect with your investments. I didn't start to be able to start saving until my late 20s and I was way ahead of the majority of my friends. One friend though owned a $1M house when he turned 30 and could support 2 kids. But he had a rare combination of really high IQ and highly motivated.
But best of luck to you. The same friend also said he was going to be a millionaire by 30 so you do have to think like that.
I retired just a few years ago in my early 40s.I just went back t work 2 days a week to have extra money to enjoy myself--go out to eat--etc.

I’d suggest make relationships with local furniture stores, thrift stores, junk yards; pretty much any place that sells large goods to consumers and ask for owner/manager - leave a business card, follow up etc.
I’ve been running the road for over 5 years - it all comes down to $ per mile.. make sure you break down all your numbers on a DAILY basis.
Document every shipment with pictures before and after.

I think it's great that people are out here trying different things and getting out of the regular rat race to try to make it. They only thing that I would try to pass on to you is that you need to figure out your Per Mile Rate. You do this by figuring out how much it costs you to move that truck 1 mile. So you have to include Fuel, Truck Note, Insurance, Freight Insurance, Maintenance Account, Driver Pay, Taxes, IFTA (if required), Tolls, Factoring, Load Boards, etc. Then you break it down to the mile, usually with no note an O/O of a semi is about $0.98 - $2.00 per mile, so that is the BARE minimum of what you need to earn.
That way, it's much easier to figure out whether a job/week's pay is worth it. Example: if it costs You $1.57 per mile to move that truck and you accepted a Dallas to Miami load paying $2,100.00 you're only making $0.02 profit per mile.
Anyways, keep your head up and your mind right because yesterday was the easiest day you had, today will be hard and tomorrow isn't promised.

And if something is flimsy or looks like it’s about to break. Mention it to the owner, I worked moving and customers would try to blame me for those cheap particle furniture you buy at Target breaking into pieces. People don’t understand that some furniture isn’t meant to be taken down and rebuilt again. Basically just make a little video of your load all strapped and ready to go and when you get there to show there is 0 damage. People are crazy, they’ll do anything to avoid paying total. Some people will let you do all of the work and than bring something up hoping you won’t go to court for the money. You’ll be surprised how many rich people do this just to save 800 bucks or something.

@@Jordan-mk9kz I bought my truck from Enterprise. I had leased from them for awhile and noticed how thorough they were on scheduled maintenance for their rentals. They sell their trucks after they hit a certain number of miles.

This video was recommended to me out of nowhere, I haven't see any type of this videos before, was about to skip but just watched the whole video. I don't know about if it is worth it for you but just wanted to say to keep motivated out there and your great dedication for this business or any other business adventure.
i did owner operator for 6 years. A bit different than what you did, I had a dedicated route. I averaged 2-3.5k per week. Which was great, until tax time lol. Spent almost 70k just in fuel one year lol Then not counting fees..taxes...operating costs...maintenance. My first year I made 140 on the books.....after everything was said and done brought home about 55k.
Whoooh.... So now it's easily over 100k for gas a year🤮

Hey watched your latest vid on tarping. I've been driving since I was 18 and now I'm 52. The secret to tarping is fold the front like a envelope so the sides go to the middle then the top comes down over the sides that way the wind blows over and around. Then you do the same at the back but you fold the top down and the sides go to the middle over the top that way the wind blows around it. Then to make it tight use your bungys to pull the tarp to the back before you finish doing the back. Once you've done that put rope in between the crates or pallets and pull the rope tight. if it's done right you don't need strops at all and the load won't move. Also who ever told you to twist the strops was stupid always make sure they not twisted because they will always come loose. Finally once you've done tarping strop your load but you won't have to have them as tight. I carted pallets of cheese on the back of my second truck which was a flatbed and never used strops just a tarp and rope and the load never moved.
A lot of people do really think you can't make big money with a straight truck, buy ya they sure can and this guy shows you a perfect example how to. Great video 👍

Trust me guy, in a sudden storm- keep moving. Flashers on, drop to a manageable speed quickly, maintain control but don’t stop. If you stop you have a higher chance of being struck by a passing vehicle.

@@TheRusschannel Lol never cut on flashers tbh but his other advice is good. I been driving CDL vehicles for 9 years and keep moving and at 50-55 mph is a good strat eventually you will outrun the storm

Make sure you save some money for repairs. Never know when stuff breaks. Also, the DOT are very serious about sleep time. You can get a fine for not being parked long enough per day and end up losing a whole week of pay in fines.
I was stuck at the border of Texas for 10 hrs because my driver didn’t log his time right 🤦🏿♂️
Just red tape to keep the small man small. That's why I'd never drive trucks. Can't make as much as they say you can
How do they keep track of how much time you are driving if you work for yourself?
@@donsolos drivers are required to keep logs, either paper logs or EDLs (electronic driver log). EDLs are becoming more and more popular than paper logs. I myself started with paper logs and now I’m on EDL, no cheating the system with the new way
