HAVING TROUBLE WITH YOUR GRAY HAIR?
Gray hair lacks melanin. More and more natural women are deciding to ditch the colors and dyes, and just wear their hair gray. But gray hair can be a little tricky particularly if you are transitioning from colored hair to gray hair.
When you want to go gray, the first thing you need to stop coloring it! This is the safest and healthiest way to go gray. You can use products to strip color from previously colored hair but you run the risk of damaging your hair.
Gray hair tends to discolor or may have a yellow tint from the environmental pollutants, color tints in hair products, or even heat. Karen recommends to use a purple shampoo to cancel out yellow tones and make the hair bright gray. Gray hair can be worn straight, curly, in a twisted style or nice haircut. Updos are great styles to transition from colored hair to natural hair gray hair.

I’m 30 and my hair is 70% grey I’m experiencing a lot of shedding and breakage no one mentioned that grey hair needs more attention and sometimes is harder to tame 😂💀
Girllll, tell me about it. My Grey hair is so freaking disrespectful 😏
I’m 70 and all gray. I stopped in 2013 and I’m natural. I’m like you, I didn’t feel like coloring it anymore.
I have always loved natural grey hair, I am embracing the way my hair is now but i can't wait for my hair to grow grey !!
It's funny how society dictates what's acceptable and then everyone else jumps on the acceptance. Its ALWAYS acceptable to embrace the way you are naturally
I could not agree* with you more! Once a woman comes into her own realizations and ongoing elevating; her Luster* won't be a "trend" but something to treasure*🎁...{SMILE}
Thanks so much for sharing
I Love this!!
Love it!!❤️real talk!!
Gray hair turns Brassy & dull and is usually weaker and also represents old age to many people. That's why a lot of people don't really care for it; *especially those with WHITE hair.* Not everyone has that Silver-Gray Hair that is Celebrated by many stylish-looking women. Many have cotton white hair. *_I say everyone needs to just "DO YOU", be Natural and Proud._*
With you got tired of coloring 8 yrs now and love it. And natural.
I have decided to leave my gray hair alone. I have not colored my hair since getting Sisterlocks almost a year ago. I am trying to embrace the gray.
Grey hair is beautiful. I didn't want to accept it for quite a while. Wore wigs, dyed it. Used Optimum color and it was unsightly and discolored. Look liked a "rainbow" afterwards. I had a vivid dream that I was desperately trying to put on an ugly, greasy, tattered wig which kept sliding off my head. The gray hair underneath was beautiful and resemble a thick, grey plush carpet. I then knew upon awaking from dream that God/nature wanted me to accept, embrace, and be proud of the beauty He blessed me with. I've been sporting it ever since. Shimmer Lights is my product of choice. And thank you beautiful hair dresser and expert for sharing with your beautiful self!!

Loved this video. You've just saved me time and expense. I'm going home for Christmas. None of my older cousins wear their hair grey and I was seriously considering dying mine. Now, I'm just gonna grab me some purple shampoo and rock my gray twist out.
This was an amazing video! Thank you so much as I'm greying and love it! Looking for more tips. Your hair and skin....GIRL!! I'm a Subbie now! Thanks again!!!
Going on 4 years of not not colouring my curly hair. Not fully grey yet, but I do find that the texture is changing with the greying highlights.
Thank you for the inspiration and you have gorgeous skin!
I am a Hair stylist and stopped coloring my hair and love it. I get a lot of compliments except for my sister in law that doesn't know anything about hair, she always making comments about Sheila highlights her hair she just doesn't want anyone to know it's highlights 😂😂😂. I try to educate her but I failed, she said please give me a brake with this is your natural gray. I LOVE IT! That's means my hair looks bomb!!!!
This pandemic got me losing weight 50 pounds and it stayed off. Then I said, no more dying my hair. Unfortunately this is also my hair shedding and coming out more than I expected. Growing old is a battle women! We aren’t girls. We are full-grown women and I’m going to do me. F*** the people who think we should . . . I decide. Thank you for this video. You are beautiful, and your skin is gorgeous! Your clients are beautiful and you are skilled!!
Nice! All the GH Foxes & styles you featured here are absolutely gorgeous. I am so inspired to continue, as like you I simply got tired of dying it, frying it, and being at the mercy of a professional HS. Not to mention saving me some coins because I can wash, condition, and treat it myself. I did find a nice braider out here (Harlem) and will most likely utilize her services w/some gray/black extensions come summer. I was also pleasantly surprised at how much lighter & healthier my hair/scalp feels. Thnx 4 sharing this Sis. You are a natural beauty and living proof that GH ain't said nuthin but a word! Stay Blessed. 🙏🏽💜👍🏽💚
Such a wonderful video.
You are so lovely and such a breath of fresh air.
Keep doing what you're doing sis🙏🏿🙏🏿
New subscriber. I have as silver hair since 14 years old. I stopped dying my hair 2016 at 38. I love it.

Thank You for the info on grays! I am mostly gray & just decided to have it dyed a light color & your video popped up. After listening to you i have a change of heart & thinking maybe just stay gray. Again i say Thank You & where are you located!? BTW you have a new subbie😊
I never dyed my hair thought about it. I didn’t know about purple shampoo for a long time. I really love how purple shampoo makes my hair look.

I got tired of dyeing too often.love my gray hair
I'm doing my best to embrace my gray hair. Because of the dull look. I will try this
That’s my decision also, fed up putting dye so I am not doing it anymore.love the gray and happy with it. I did cut off the black.my dad’s hair was like silver gray and that’s how my hair looks.oh how I love it.
I would not cut off the black tips. With time it will all be silver and longer. That is why its called salt and pepper hair. Its beautiful, and GODS way of hair painting just for you.
Going to buy that Purple shampoo tomorrow thank you for sharing this video 🥰
Unfortunately, one of the reasons why I believe some ladies are hesitant to embrace full on grey tresses is because of remaining societal stigma. It speaks volumes that it had to become "fashionable" as of recent, in order for women to reconsider a change of heart. Statements or implications that someone* would look so much younger...

Excellent video content! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Millawdon Goodbye Gray Trick (search on google)? It is a good one of a kind product for learning how to reverse gray hair fast minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my GF got great success with it.
I am one grey hair is beauty to me😍
I bet he doesn't dye his hair! Society places these harsh requirements on women. Never men, we live in a paternalistic world 🌎 💯
@@kawanclinton950 If people stop associating gray hair with being old, they will appreciate its beauty. I’d rather have thick white hair than thin dyed hair!
EMBRACE IT. 🌈🌹🎶🎉
U are too kind... u think all the gray looks great.... my issue is what edge control lays salt and pepper rough edges....this the part I cannot stand at all
Love this video....very informative
Hello..where can I get the purple shampoo
Thanks for the wonderful information 😀
,
I am 66 I'm now wearing hair about the on my shoulders I had waist-length hair and I didn't like it so much gray had shown through and then I felt like I looked almost a hundred years old with it but now I embrace the gray and the funny thing is when it started coming in it came in and I stopped using chemicals on my hair no relaxer I've been wearing it natural in a bush suicide trimmed it down but if it came in around the gray came in around the edges first and its predominant around the edges look like a Halo all the way around my head is so funny but I've gotten used to it now and I embrace it so your channel as a blessing and keep up the good work I wish you were here where I am cuz I'd be at your shop but thank you for the information you've passed. And I will ease up on the flat iron God bless you with everything you do and thank you for sharing your knowledge an expertise in the situation blessings to you keep up the good work!
When I stopped coloring more than 3 years ago i bought kinky curly gray wigs and ponies from amazon and had fun waiting for my hair to grow out naturally. There was NO way I was going to strip the old dye out. It sounds like cruelty and I'm all about loving my hair. I haven't relaxed or straightened in almost 30 years and it bothered me that I was continuing to color. I felt like a phony. Embracing my real hair has been a beautiful journey. Thank you for your channel!
Awesome!!! Yes! I must say I too am enjoying watching my hair turn gray before my very eyes!! And it’s fun!! Stripping the hair of previous color is so harsh on the hair! Seems like you made the right decision to have fun with ponytails! Making me want to go get one myself! Lol!
Great video. Very helpful.
That last time I colored my hair was 11/18/18 last relaxer 11/16/12.
Thanks for the info, because I'm ready to embrace my gray hair. I haven't dyed it in 2 years. Now I know how to treat it.
I love my bald and grayness!
Thanks very informative I'm going to get my self a bottle of purple shampoo shimmer light thanks a million.❤️
You are absolutely beautiful!!
I just took out my grey braids from my hair. My natural grey hair looks dull and brassy, thanks for sharing the shimmer light shampoo Miss Karen.

Beautiful hair
Let's hear it for the gray-haired ladies!
Yay!!!!!! Hi Edward! Thanks for the kudos!
I stopped because of the effects of chemical reasons. Can't do the damage thing. My hair is delicate already. Wearing my frost has empower me to except it and water it proudly!
69 people always stop me because it’s beautiful. Really lovely. I was discouraged by beauticians who Actually colored my hair Without my permission. Saying I was too, young for All That Grey, Trying to make me feel ugly?? And natural Hair is long natural and gorgeous. White, grey, silver, black And I color it, Thank You for the great info. And for honoring beautiful silver.
Has lots of grey & black, not coloring it..And not triming it.....just let nature be natural...it comes from God.......but I do use the purple shemmering lite shampoo to keep the grey from turning yellow ....5 minutes isn't enough 2 take me yellow out...but I agree with on grey hair ...And ur beautiful, gorgeous hair .everything u described about grey is true...I love protective style...💜👌🏾👌🏾
How do I improve or fix the wiry blah texture of my gray hair?
I just let mine grow out and trimmed the ends. I retired that year and some younger people in my workout class thought that I had died it gray. I use the Shimmering lights. My hair is more of a silver than gray or white.
After using the purple shampoo I can use a regular shampoo and the purple conditioner.
I lost all my hair to cancer but it growing back but not full in the top & my sides. What can you recommend? Mines is about your previous length & I’m wearing it nature. My gray hair in some areas looks better than the side front area; how do I blend it in to get a lovely gray not the brassy look; thanks V. Hunter
Lovely!!
My gray grew in throughout my hair instead of in a certain area.
Thank you Curl House I learned some great tips, like the purple shampoo.
I just ordered the Qhemet Biologics LOC method for High Porosity Hair. Do you have any experience with their products on Grey hair?
I am very familiar Qhemet -- excellent product line, but i don't know about how well they work with grey hair. And thank you!!
I got tired of coloring my hair. It took up to much of my time. When I got very sick all I cared about was getting well. I keep my hair done and shaped. I will not ever give all that time to dyeing my hair again.
I have a lil spot of gray hair. I m healthy, exercise, wear it natural, etc. It's breaking off a lil bit. I use Kericare products, and my hair is thin. What type of products should I use.
Using Shimmering Lights is not good for me. My grey picks up the color of the shampoo no matter how much I lather. 😒
I'm natural so which dye do you recommend
I'm 40 I have some grey hair and I hate it
Love it sis!!! These clients 🤦🏾♀️gotta love them and help them work through their gray hair transitions and feel better from the inside out. ❤️💪🏾
Thanks a bunch 🤗
Thanks
I have never been to a beauty shop or salon, never put color in my hair. My problem is that my is on both sides in the front. I do not want to color a lot of people like it. The problem is the rest of my hair looks good except the gray no matter what I do if will frizz up and looks as if I didn't comb that part of my hair. What can I do to fix that problem? It's driving me crazy
I just embraced it
I stopped colouring 2 years ago, and chopped all my hair. My gray hair is not all over my head but in the front and is not yellow. Should I use the purple shampoo anyway?
My hair has been gray since I was 15 years old people loved it and I never colored it so now did i am 70 years old I ware a wig and I hate that. If I use a purple shampoo it turns my hair purple but goes back gray in about 24 hours.
2021, First time seeing your video , I got excited. I had my first grey at 17 😎. Anyway, I stopped coloring my hair because I realized it was damaging my scalp. Yeap! 😕 My gary looks silver 😁. All people want to know is what products do I use on my hair, plus, I am all natural. When I'm on the islands my hair take on a light curl form. If I'm some where cold, the cold straightens my hair. Who knew? 😂 If my hair gets wet power to the people. 😊 Gray is in!
LOVE IT!

Thanks a bunch!!
So inspired by the video thank you so much for the inspiration and the information. Can you please let us know the color of the lipstick that you’re wearing it’s beautiful.
Thank You! I’m a MAC girl so I believe it’s chestnut liner and Spite gloss.
The lipgloss at the beginning of the video is also very beautiful.
You are so right..but with me it's black brown .all colours
I am having an issue with my hair. I never liked my gray. It came in around the outside. I had a lowlight done hating it. My gray hair was gorgeous. If hair wasn't so thin I would get a very low cut.
I started to go gray in my teens. Never dyed it. I’ll be 71 in July. My hair is now white. I also use Clairol’s Shimmer Lights to keep it bright. I’ve always loved my hair, especially when it was relaxed. I’ve been natural for about 8 years now. My dilemma is finding a hairstyle that suits me and that I can maintain.
Try twists. Flat twists and two strand twists. I wear a lot of Flat twist up do's. z they're professional for work, sexy for date nights or going out with hubby or my girlfriends. Most importantly I work out and travel a lot. They're low maintenance. It last me two weeks doing virtually nothing. I may lightly mist it then oil it at the 1 week mark. I then wear a twist out for a week. I start all over at the 3 week mark. it keeps my hair growing and I use no heat
Thanks👌👏
Shimmering lights is to harsh for sensitive skin
This is where l am and tomorrow l am going cut off all my dyed hair and start over. I would love for you to do a series of how we cope psychology also. What product or best products to use and maintain. Thank you.
😏I'm also doing a C-19 grey transition on my natural hair. My last dye was in February. It is growing & healthy except for flaky scalp which has me washing my hair weekly. I use twists, headbands & scarves on days that I bantu knot. You are so right when you emphasize that it is a process. But it is one I must say that I am finally enjoying. It is liberating to be free of the 6 week expensive dye job! Thank you so much for your video because you have confirmed a lot of my best practices. When I feel it is safe, I will definitely find someone to style an updo.💗👍🏾👍🏿
I'm glad RUclips recommend this channel to me, please what shampoo do I apply to stop the itching.
It's so disturbing I'm just in my 40s and have tons of grey hair
Hello! Do you have flakes that accompany the itching? How often do you wash your hair?
@@KarenofCurlHouse no flakes ma, I wash my hair once a week.its a virgin hair.
Thank u need to here that
You telling the truth
Can I use the shampoo for gray hair if I still have some highlights in the crown of my hair. I am gray around my edges and areas throughout the rest of my hair.
Hey Gorgeous! Yes you can! I'm not all gray and I use it as my first shampoo, and then followup with your regular moisturizing shampoo as the second shampoo
Thank you for your enlightenment... where are you located?
I am located in Richmond, VA
Love when you have photos and videos to show how to use the product.
Yay! Fabulous!! 💜
May the lord forgive me but I can’t help myself with your beauty!!
I’ll be 53 this year and have never dyed my hair. I just never wanted the hassle of having to maintain the color. I went natural in 2015. Graying hair doesn’t bother me at all. My graying hair is mostly in the front and it’s coming in wiry, brittle and dry. It’s a real struggle learning to deal with it but I’d never dye it. I did find a sulfate-free purple shampoo. Hopefully that’ll help.
I know you are a silver fox!!! I did a few videos on gray hair that may help you --

ABSOLUTELY!!!! That shampoo is great as well!
I used to color my hair my bar ber told me my. Whole hair is gray so i stopped putting color on my hair
I have gray hair
What do u use as a leave in , moisturizer, that won't change ur gray hair color?
Hi Denise! From my experience, most leave in conditioners/moisturizers are white, or white-ish, and I haven't had any problems using with gray hair. So I think the goal is to get a condition that is white. Stay away from yellow tones like those found in some butters, like shea butter. Has this been your experience?
Yes i.m getting grey i.m 62 years old now my edges ate the right side is grey just my baby hair but the rest is coming but i know i.m gonna need something for grey hair real soon do i am ready to learn now
Are blue renise good for grey
Karen I'm new to your channel... My hair is natural gray but with a crimson red rinse.... I want to dye my hair red but with magenta highlights.... I'm not really sure the best way to do it... I see some people say they dye their hair without bleach... I just don't want to mess my hair up... Please give me some insight on how to do this...
Hi Valencia! What percentage of grey are you? When you say red -- what shade of red? Deep burgundy red or a brighter shade? So the thing with red and magenta is that reds tend to bleed, and although you can dye your hair red, the color will fade, and the magenta will fade as well. Are you ready to spend quite a bit of time with upkeep?
@@KarenofCurlHouse HI Ms Karen ! My gray is mainly in the top scattered.. I recently cut my hair off going natural... My hair has been red for 8 years now but Ive always used a rinse and I get tired of having to redo the red all the time.... Now since my hair is short you I have to do the was and go .. So can I dye my hair and it will make the gray look better ..
I'm transitioning from a wave Nuevo to natural can I do the coils while transitioning?
Hi Pam! You can try it! The curls may be a little looser towards the ends where you still have the chemical, but depending on the curls, I think it may actually work because you still have curls. Give it try!!
I found using coconut oil to make it less white looking
What do you mean? Coconut oil doesn't help your grey?
That is the best shampoo
I got tired of spending hours at the salon coloring my hair. I recently big chop'd again to cut off the dyed hair and am just going to keep my hair short and let the gray do what it do. My struggle has been with keeping my gray hair from looking dull. Melanin Haircare Multi-Use Pure Oil Blend has helped me out with that. Will definitely try the purple shampoo.
I stop coloring my hair.
I love my grey
Hello Queen
Can I still use aloe on my hair when it’s wash day
Hello Kimberley! How do you use aloe? As a pre-poo? As a moisturizer? Aloe has so many amazing benefits I just wanted to clarity on how you use it. I can't imagine a scenario where you wouldn't be able to use it on wash day, but just wanted to be sure.
I have stopped dying the gray because I do not want to compromise my locks. What are your thoughts?
Jean G. Are you at least a year in? So are you locks mature enough to handle color? I would not use permanent color - i would go for a demi permanent color. It’s not as harsh. If your locks are not mature I’d stay away from all color until your locitian has released you to color. But my friend has SL that she colored quite a bit and she said she would never recommend people to put permanent color because it changes the texture of the locks. That’s her biggest lesson learned. I personally think grey locks are GORGEOUS! .
Karen of Curl House I will be year in on March 4, 2020. I think that I will be staying away from color, as advised by my consultant. Thank you.
