- This video is of my 2015 Chevrolet SS with Kooks LT Headers and Full exhaust (High Flow Cats), and a K&N Cold Air Intake. It will go through a Walk-around, Startup/Rev, and the sound at three different speed levels from the exterior.
Skip to 0:53 to skip the walk-around of the car and engine.
NOTE: The short music clip in the beginning of the video is the intro to "Strife" by Trivium.
0:53 to skip walkaround and music. I was being extra back then 😂
Underrated car right here

No matter what you do, the SS just emits a signature special tone that sounds amazing.
It’s beautiful! The kooks really made it that much more special. I don’t have the car anymore but it was my favorite sounding car for sure
I was fortunate to find a 2017 Silver Ice Metallic after searching for over 2 years. It was exactly 50 years after buying my first new car ever, in 1972, a Nova SS.
The story is too much to share here, but I bought it from the same salesperson at the same dealership 50 years later. To the exact month.
They did not know what they had on the lot.
Anyway, I was not about beating this car up. as it is an awesome culmination of what my journey as been since a teenager in 1960s, and getting behind one of these.
All this is said, 4 months later, I went over to a long time friends home on a Friday evening to show him the SS. He had never seen one.
When leaving, he had asked me to hit it, so to speak. I have a 1987 Buick Grand National, methanol injected and you know the rest. Frame off restore. Very strong is an understatement.
He lives in the country, on a nice two lane road, so when I drove around to the front of his house, I stopped, slightly braked it, ran up a moderate rpm.
I have Kooks Long Tube Headers, and when that thing let go, it was all I could do to absorb what was happening. I have never felt a launch and all out acceleration.
Traction control was doing everything possible to keep it under control. I was on Sport Mode with windows down.
For those that may not be able to feel what I am describing, it was surreal. These cars are beyond description.
This video allowed me to experience an Out of Car sensation with sound regarding what myself and my wife experienced that night and that launch.
WOW! Great video.
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for the story!! That is so awesome! I’m glad you enjoy such a beautiful car. It’s very underrated and I’m upset they discontinued it. No one I expects it with the sedan look!
Love that car. My best friend in the world bought one just a few months before pancreatic cancer got him.
Sorry to hear that. He chose a fantastic car.
Man had great taste R.I.P to your friend
Holy shit that sounds Amazing bro! Looking forward to seeing some more videos!
What clear nice V8 Sound❤
Thanks man. I sure do miss it. I keep this video up because I know it was tough finding a good exhaust sound video on this vehicle back in the day.
Love it. It is the perfect balance. Most go way to loud
Damn the sky is beautiful
Bad Ass Ride right there!!
Most have no idea what this car is and no clue about Holden either. I've got an '11 Caprice PPV with the 6 liter. Very fun car! It's basically a G8 from the B pillar forward.
They’re definitely great rides! And you’re right, they get confused when Holden is mentioned or even when a Chevy SS is brought up! Very underrated in the states.
Nice holden mate
Simply superb.
I went to a dealership to test drive the 2016 model, and holy shit that was a fun ass car to drive, and even factory sounds pretty damn good. If I got one doing this setup or something close to it.
Kyler Ellis yeah man they are awesome cars! After this video I decided to go with a rotofab intake which actually proved to be better! Definitely recommend them
sounds amazing!
impalabu LTZSS
Not even close
@@jamessavage3622 it's a joke kid
@@jamessavage3622 shut up and get a sense of humor
It definitely looks like that
People think my wm caprice is an impala.
Damn that ss sounds sooo badass I want my g8 to sound like that 😉😉 how much was the headers set up for everything? Great job 👍👍
afer 1212 The full kooks exhaust system ran around $3,100 after taxes I believe.
I’m sure you could get it cheaper from a third party supplier
license plate so underrated i think im the first that commented bout it
It was great! Unfortunately the normal spelling was taken!
Great content
Thank you!
Most badass into music since RUclips
Intro
Those clouds though
Hey quick question did you also get the kooks axle backs to complete the full exhaust.
I know some people decide to keep the stock mufflers.
Thanks
@@Nick-td4jk Fast response lol, but yeah I did
I wanted to be comment No. 100 😎
1 7/8 or 1 3/4 headers? When you say high flow cats, do you mean the Green ones on the x pipe? And when you say full exhaust, do you mean the headers and x pipe? What are you using for mufflers/axleback/tips? Love the sound level and tone, would like to do same to mine. If you have links to the actal products you used that would be helpful, several options on the Kooks website.
Did you get that info I want my car sounding the same send me that info thanks 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
License plate made me smile
props for the trivium opening.
Alabama represent. What airport can I run mine out to? 😂
Hold tf up you have an SS? BRUH LUCKYYYYYY
I recently purchased a set of ARH with High-Flow Cats Long System and was planning to use the factory muffs. I would prefer something different with a better sound while being as 'mild' as possible. Every combination I've heard is simply too loud. However, your system sounds different from all others. I'm a little skeptical what sound clips from RUclips due to the influence of computer speakers and the placement of your microphone/iPhone.
I can try my best to get you another sound clip if you'd like? I'll have someone record it. However, this setup I believe would definitely be what you're looking for. It's loud when you step on it, but not obnoxious or too loud when you're driving normal at all.
Thanks!

Haha tell ‘em!

very nice.
Brian hall I just bought this car from Dothan Chrysler from my daughter who works there I love it if you have a chance can you tell me what all you have done to it I happened across the videos before I bought it trying to see what I would do if I bought it then realized it's already done . Thanks brother
Do you know where I could find a cold intake form my 2012 Caprice 6.0L?
I tried several places but one have them.
I appreciate the info.
Thanks
Kudro Rico I use CarID for a lot of parts to look up. AIRAID, INJEN, and K&N are the main go to's for the caprice. K&N is always a good option but AIRAID isn't too bad either. KN is usually more money
Summit racing
Hey Brian, did you notice any REAL difference in power after doing the CAI and full exhaust? Or is it just louder?
sounds like a Bow M3 e92...so good !
Is this Fort Rucker? We are here too with GXP and Orange SS
Yes it was! However, I sold that car in 2017. I've seen you around! I now have the white SRT Grand Cherokee and am back at Rucker again.
@@overhalled No way! I think i remember seeing the Cherokee. Freaking small world!
After these certain mods, what kind of car does it compete with
Did you remove the resonator of your exhaust? That sound is amazing👍🏼
LETHAL Wires Yeah, it was a full system from the headers back. Thanks man
Brian Hall nice gonna try this one on my car bro🤘🏻
Sounds awesome. I know this vid is 2 years old but I am looking at a full Kooks system for my SS w/stock mufflers only I am considering going catless. Any reason you didn't go catless? Car looks great BTW!
Jay Lestingi Thank you very much! Honestly the only reason I didn’t go catless was I planned on bringing it to Germany, and they are picky on inspections. However, I ended up trading it for another vehicle. I definitely would have went catless otherwise!
I hear you on that. I am in NY where they DO test for emissions but lately they hook up a scan tool and if there are no codes they give you your sticker. What did you wind up getting if I may ask?
Where did you get that ls3 trunk emblem?
Tony Zamora 3 I found them on amazon!
Is the SS whut plate a reference to know one ever knowing what this car is?
Yes exactly haha. Usually when you tell them you have an SS, they ask “an SS what?” Referring to Camaros and such
I have one of these and without exaughst It’s loud and grumbly but with an exauhst it’s loud
Did you have any drone with this setup? I can't stand a drone
Taylor Denning no drone at all! It was awesome
Brian Hall thanks for the quick reply! I will go this route then. Any suggestions for a place to purchase from. Good price of course
Taylor Denning Summit racing is USUALLY cheaper than most of the places I’ve seen. Not a bad place to start. I use that and carID often.
Brian Hall thank you!
U mean a commodore ss (if u know u know)
Question does it have a manual shifter for the automatic like paddles or something
Yes it has the paddle shifters
DAMMMN
i saw this car up for sale lol
Put the HSV GTS R 8 body kit on. And bring the animal up to HSV GTS R W1 engine power = a true blue Australian muscle car. I ever wonder is there a HSV GTS R W1 in the U.S. bloody M5 killer.
Are you on a airport and if so howd u get permission?
Im an air traffic controller in the Army. It was my old airfield I worked at
@@overhalled isnt that one of the most stressful jobs bro😂😂 “91B here”
I think I've finally found my exhaust. any extra power out of this?
leloodallasmultipass I highly recommend it! Has a great sound to it
So many of the exhausts I've heard have been too raspy and flatulent. The stock SS has a much more refined exhaust note that I really love. This seems to retain that while bringing out more depth.
You have had this for a while. Does it drone at all?
Josh Miller No drone at all! Its actually semi quiet inside. However... I did have straight pipe before this so it was a big difference lol. I've had this for quite awhile now and at various continuous speeds and RPMs, I haven't had any drone.
Thanks Man. I was trying to decide really hard between this and the corsa.
Where did you get the red decals?
Aaron Smith Hey man. I got them straight from the Chevy dealer. They’re a Chevy product that come in black or red. Of course I’m sure it’s cheaper to go to a custom vinyl shop
Where did u buy the kooks exhaust
Quote Genius5563 I ordered them straight from kooks
me likeY WOT
How was the headers installation easy or a bitch??? Thinking of doing this same setup
NJMAKO it was actually fairly is, I had no issues
How much HP now🤔
I dont have it anymore unfortunately, I have a 2017 Grand Cherokee SRT now
i love the ls3 badges even though it has an l99 lol
Billy Ray it’s not an L99. It’s 100% an LS3 lol
Definitely an LS3.
Not criticizing you or anything but it’s called a launch not a take off
This comment is super old, but I said that because I was on my airfield haha.
where you get this car from
pontiacGXPfan I bought it new from enterprise Chevrolet in Alabama
Brian Hall Enterprise Chevrolet next to Ft Rucker had this car?
pontiacGXPfan yeah I got it there in December of 2015
Would it be crazy loud without cats?
bleakeiii It would sound better without cats than it would without mufflers. It’d be a noticeable difference but it actually sounds nice still. Only reason I ended up going with cats was because I was planning on bringing it to my tour in Germany
Ok, cool . Thanks for the info. I wanted to keep the bimodals but from what I've heard in other exhaust clips they're to loud and just don't sound good.
GAY
Is the car tuned? If not do you have any cel's with the different cats?
William Collins Yeah I got it tuned once already, however, the cel came back on for the cats of course. Says it's running rich because the header cats aren't there and I got the high flows for the mid cats. A better tuning should get rid of it
You can use MILS sims to avoid the CEL for the high flow cats.....but tuning is the best way to get rid of the CEL light and gain the most power. I drove my car around with MILs sims for over 6 months with no problems.
