From a kiwi who's watched test rugby since the mid-1960s -- Danie Gerber is the best running centre I've ever seen. His acceleration, power, and balance (especially for a big man) were exceptional. Would be one of the first picks for my World XV, if I was to select one.

A centre who could run AROUND wingers!!! As well as do everything else expected of one of the greatest centres ever. The best centre in his day - difficult to judge against the modern era because of rush defence.
It's good to see the ball moving through the backline, quick hands. And players like Gerber running into the space and creating it. These days our balls stops spreading after 12.

Overrated. Poor defensive structures back then, and the teams he's playing against are really poor, South American Jaguars? Lol.. Too bad the sporting isolation during the apartheid era limited him playing against top sides like the All Blacks and Wallabies on a regular basis to truly test and measure how good he really was. Brian O'Driscoll is still the best outside centre ever, he's tried and tested in the international arena, and Tim Horan best inside centre ever.
