What impressed me with this footage the most is that it features matches against Rhodesia (my former beloved country) and South West Africa too.

The closest thing to a rugby time machine you'll get! Some legendary names to conjure with there: Wahl Bartmann, Jannie Breedt, John Robbie (!), Garth Wright, and what an unsung hero Hempas Rademeyer was for TVL. He once ref'ed a school game I played in, and I was star struck! :D

Great upload! first clip reminds me of what the legendary former Tranvaal FH and somewhat popular [ ;-) ]Hugh Bladen cited as his first broadcasting experience, epic!!

The try that starts at 2:45 and from under the Tvl goalposts is as good a breakout try as any I've seen.

The try scored by Corrie Pypers against the 1976 All Blacks is arguably the best try ever scored by any South African in history. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

When rugby was flowing, lots of knock ons and forward passes missed but much more entertaining than todays stuff.

Very true , and the ball came out of the rucks much faster

Ball from rucks was not a given and not protected as in todays game. As a result teams were required to keep the ball in hand and use creativity to score tries. Today is one ruck after another, supposedly better spectator value. Todays game has too many rules. Rugby should have learned from soccer that less rules are better.
