    Great video and comparison of the two models. We looked at and test drove a Wonder RL and Unity MB last weekend at a dealer and just ordered the Wonder RTB. The deciding factors for me were the garage storage for our e-bikes and golf clubs and the Wonder RL had a 1824 lb. OCCC vs. 1450 lb. OCCC on the Unity MB. I have a MB E250 diesel car and thought I would want the Unity since I'm a MB fan, but thought the Wonder had much better acceleration, less engine noise and drove more like an SUV. I liked the ride of the Unity and the larger cab area vs. the Wonder. My salesperson at Van City told me there is a good chance they'll have the auto levelers as an option on the Wonder RTB in 2022, and also said they may be switching the 3 way refrigerator to a compressor fridge on the 2023 models.

    So appreciate your thoughtful, methodic comparison, one question I had was the additional option of having more sleeping space. I have a grandchildren and the front forward sleeping in the Unity may be the deal breaker for me...allowing for at least one child to comfortably sleep over with the inflatable air mattress in the "front" room.

    Hi Brandon, I enjoy watching your channel. The 2021+ Transit has additional advantages that were not mentioned in your comparison.
    • 3.5L EcoBoost engine with 310hp / 400 lb-ft mated to a 10 speed transmission
    Gasoline is on every corner and approximately .60 less per gallon compared to diesel
    • FordPass enables mobile connectivity to remotely Lock, Start and monitor the vehicle
    • Ford Co-Pilot360 provides Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Assist with Auto Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping, Auto High-Beam Headlamps and Automatic Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers
    • The Headlights are HID and are automatically activated when the wipers come on

    Awesome video regarding the comparison of both lines. I have a Wonder RL coming in a few month's, the 178 wheel base on the Wonder provides a smoother ride than Unity from what Mike and Jennifer stated as they owned a Unity before purchasing the 2021 Wonder Twin Bed, the Wonder drives better. LEISURE (Dean) also points out this in their videos. ALSO, the Ford does have rain sensors for windshield wipers, this is covered in the Fords chassis brochure...
    Thanks for the weekly updates and information.

    We purchased a new 2017 Wonder 24MB. We live in FL. We took it for a 40 day trip out west 3 days after purchase. We drove 10,000 miles. I drove most of the trip at 63 MPH and averaged 19.5 MPG. We have taken it on many summer trips over the past 3 years and now we have around 35,000 miles. Because it is a diesel I can't speak to the gas version but we have the propane gen set and liked that as well. We drove all of the Rockies into Canada and all of the pacific coast down from Canada to Southern California on our inaugural trip and it was fantastic to drive in the mountains and flatlands. We had a Zuma gas scooter on a rack on the rear of the coach for the trip. What we like- the light interior color. We love the full Queen bed. We love the way it drove and the upgraded leather seats that LTV installed over the standard Ford fab. We did not want a slider so the Unity was not for us. OK, what have we had issues with. The awning is not very robust. We have replaced our macerator x2; we no longer have one because I find gravity always work. We did experience a recall on our DEF system. When researching this issue I found out if you remove the DEF system you will get another 5 MPG. We did not remove it but when it was not working it did average around 25 MPG. One key point the reviewer did not mention- The Ford does not have much room between the front seats. The Mercedes has way more room between the seats. It makes a big difference when the passenger wants to get up and go into the living space during travel. We actually prefer the Wonder's clean inside feel on the 2017. Very euro looking. They did away with it in 2019 I believe, but am certain it is gone in late models. I love love love how it drives. Had a Minnie Winnie for 13 years prior and the upgraded fuel and drive experience it out of this world.

    I’m not yet an owner of either, but I have toured and analyzed both. For reasons of cost differential, and a preference for some of the Wonder floor plans (twin rear bed model) storage options and all-wheel drive, I would choose the Wonder. Having said that, the Unity features I would miss are heated seats and adaptive cruise control (although my wife never uses it). As far as the lack of a chassis power shut-off, I always use a trickle charger anyway, which I think is a better solution in either case (better long-term battery health).

    One thing to consider when you are still under the chassis warranty is the distance to a Ford service center and a Mercedes service center. We have both in town so it was not a n issue for us. We decided on the Wonder Front Twin Bed because of the open floor plan, tank sizes, and the storage. Not much was mentioned of the Wonder FTB, but other Leisure owners who looked at out floor plan liked it much better than theirs - the Unity does not have a Front Twin Bed floorplan.

    Brandon, I enjoyed this video. Your comparisons brought to light many differences. My take from watching is your definitely a MB kind of a guy. I don't think you truly weighed in on the high cost to operate and maintain a MB vs a Ford.. You brushed over this very important aspect . You state you could have the oil changed at other facilities but remember this could void the warranty in addition the higher cost of other MB parts and repairs.
    There were several comparisons that stood out. The tire pressure monitoring system would be one important safety must have instead of a heated passenger seat. A $19.95 electric heating pad would have taken care of that deal breaker.
    But anyway, I do appreciate your comparisons. It got the ball rolling for more in depth thinking... 😊 I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

    • @Pagosa
      @Pagosa  3 года назад

      Thanks for watching. I am a MB man for sure, and the higher cost is worth it to me for the experience. I’ve heard from several owners they do it themselves or at others using the MB required parts. Not sure if that actually does void warranty, but hope not. I’m fortunate that I have an Mb dealer 5 minutes from us, so I can take it there. Glad you enjoyed it!

    One difference that is not explained is why the two RL models have different layouts with regard to the large windows in the RL. In the Unity, they face towards the driver's side and in the Wonder, they face the passenger side. If you do camp in RV parks regularly, the Unity windows will usually face the sewer, water and power hookups (and usually a lesser view), while the Wonder windows face the camp site. Plus, even when boon docking, I would expect that the passenger side would have the better view since people usually like to have their outdoor seating areas facing the better view. Could be a big deal to some and I can find no explanation why the RL windows face different directions.

    • @Pagosa
      @Pagosa  3 года назад +2

First I love the lighting, colour tones and richness of your videos and the sound quality is really good. One minor tweak my ocd is kicking in to say, is if you bring your camera up a little higher (vertically, just a bit), while still showing the awesome background), you won't be looking down the barrel of a gun as much and lessen the slight distortion caused from low angles.

    Us being FXers, thought I'd share this. Not sure if you ordered the optional front table; but I ended up comandeering the front closet; Dawn took the tiny one next to the fridge (with the optional table/post stored inside it).
    But she does have more overhead storage than me (above the rear lounge). So we're calling it even.
    I scored points with her today when I moved the table in my front closet. Table one the rt side wall (with the snap to hold it in place) and the post on the rear wall. Doesn't hinder with my stuff. Leaving Tuesday for northern MN, Canada and back home through MI (I think that's the plan).

    The thing that hangs me up is the OCCC of the RV's. We are really looking at the WLR. Why don't they publish the base OCCC without any options. Then list the weight penalty for each option. It is really just simple addition and subtraction. They really do seem to keep the numbers close to their chests. In addition to that they do not list manufacturer and model of the standard and optional equipment. They could list and just add "can change without notice" to give them freedom to be flexible.

    • @Pagosa

      We have 400 watts of the flex and it is fine. Leisure's new rigid panel is going to be much better, so I would go all in with 400 if you really think you are going to do a lot of boon docking. If you have the flex panels for your option right now, I'd actually delete that option and go with an aftermarket install of rigid panels, a better solar controller and look at upgrading to Lithium as well. You will save money on the solar by doing it third party and get better results. Hope this helps.

    Longer wheelbase makes a HUGE difference in the ride quality which is why you don’t hear as many people complaining about the ride quality of the Ford vs. the Unity. It’s very common to upgrade the suspension on a Unity to make it ride better.
    You need to be comparing the Ford website to the Mercedes website. Disappointed you missed so many things.

    • @smileyel-abd9984

      Plus so many report doing suspension mods on the MB and hardly any report touching the suspension on a Transit. So those suspension up grades add $$$ to the first cost of the Unity. I think I am better versed on the Transit but that makes sense cause its what I am buying. And the 2021 Transit will fill the gaps technologically between the chassis. Now I will take gas any day over diesel :)

      think we talked on Facebook. I just took the info from the LTV website as they option their chassis' and they put "Adaptive Cruise Control" on the Unity Specs and "Cruise Control" for the Wonder specs. They add ESC on Unity Specs and do not for the Wonder specs, so not sure if these are left out by mistake by LTV web folks, or if the Wonder actually does not have these.

    Overall, not to bad of a comparison or review - you were pushing is a little on the auto wipers and the TPMS tire sensors (really good after-market less than $200 and includes to toad) BUT the real thing to consider for the extra $20,000 is the maintenance and upkeep of the units. Today there are 3,011 Ford dealers in the US and only 368 Mercedes dealers. As you pointed out the Mercedes cost and arm and a leg to maintain and repair. On the other hand. the Wonder, with the Ford, has 10 times the repair and service centers plus you can get Ford or Ford OEM type replacement parts at AutoZone - Advance Auto Parts, or even Amazon. Is the snob appeal of owning a Mercedes really worth over $30,000 dollars over say a ten-year period?

    Great comparison video, but your comparison on the fuel consumption is misleading - yes more MPG for Unity but based on overall cost the Wonder wins due to the cost difference between fuel types! Using today's fuel cost: Wonder: 25 gal tank x 12 mpg = 300 miles; 25 gal x $2.90/gal = $72.50 / 300 miles = $4.14 cost per mile. Unity: 24.5 gal tank x 17 mpg = 416.5 miles; 24.5 gal tank x $3.55 = $86.97 / 416.5 miles = $4.79 cost per mile. So, the difference in cost between unleaded and diesel makes the Ford unleaded the better performer.

    • @Pagosa
      @Pagosa  3 года назад +1

      It’s going to be where you live. Diesel in Dallas is 2.80 gallon right now. But in some cases where diesel is higher that would be the case. But if time is money and you get more miles per tank, then diesel is the clear winner 😃

      The diesel will definitely last longer than the gas as long as you don't get a lemon, but most people don't drive these daily, so not sure what advantage that is.

    One word.. Service, Service, Service. Try finding a MB dealer when they go belly up. Then you wait 2 weeks to get it back...
    Why the Wonder wins hands down...

    Wow, only one year later and the fully loaded Unity price is $88,000 more. $176k -> $264k. Even the base price is $79,000 more.

      That $264k is Canadian price, but would be about $211k US. Still very high!

    Wow, are you comparing the two and not telling us about the engine size, power and torque and what kind of fuel the two takes. I think that is important. I laugh at people when many don’t think the engine is important, remember the MOTOR in motorhomes is what gets you to your destination.

      At the time of that video, they both had Diesel engines that were comparable. Now it's changed, so take a look at this video for more explanation on the differences in power train - ruclips.net/video/eJQ5ESyWWXM/видео.html

    You miss one glaring differences; one uses gasoline and one uses diesel. Your Unity uses diesel. Question - Do you smell the diesel gas fume while driving and during camping?

      Hello. When this was filmed the Wonder was still a diesel. Transit switched to gas not too long ago. No smell at all.
