Jackie Robinson was an icon, not only in the world of sports but as an American Hero. Great coverage Joy
I was in Sanford FL with my father (dad was born 6 years after Jackie) visiting Grandmother; Jackie played in Sanford in 1946. I must have been about 5 (c1963). I was holding dad's hand as we were walking and saw a public restroom with lettering over the door... Colored or Whites, I don't remember exactly. I asked my father why it said that and he explained something about it. Can't believe that I saw that with my own eyes.
No matter who you are, separate is never equal.
Jackie Robinson the true hero of baseball and Black American history. May his legacy live on forever. #42 👊💪🙏👍🙏💙🔥🔥🔥🔥💯
The number 42 is the only number retired in every single MLB except today, only on April 15th every single pro baseball player wears number 42 to remember a great man who tolerated more than his fair share of hatred they had against him for no other reason than the color of his skin. I'm sure that hatred was way worse than most of us could understand and we all have to keep fighting for the rights of every person to be treated with the dignity. We're all human beings and deserve to be treated the same.
Love this segment!!!!
Thank you Mrs. Reid and Robinson family.
Thank you for your strength, courage and wisdom. Thank you for your talent. ❤
Thank you, Mr. Robinson.
Love this story things I didn't know about Mr Jackie Robinson . Thank you Joy !
*We Love You Mr. Robinson* 🖤
*42* 💙🤍
Thank you, Joy 👍👍👍👍👍
Great Reporting Joy! There was much in this that i did not know, clearly. So Thank You for sharing! I was also a huge fan of Ken Griffey Jr. (Seattle Mariners) who came up with the idea of #42 on Every Player's Jersey on April 15.
Its our American history.
BEAUTIFUL 🙏🏾
Jackie Robinson is truly an American Hero! ❤ 🎊🎗🎖🏆🏅🥇⚾️🥰😍🤩💖💞❤️💜
Thank you JR42 ✊🏾
Jackie Robinson carried a heavy load -for ALL of us. Thank you. 🙏
Joy I'm a big fan of yours and hope to see you on a can of bud light in the near future. 💛💙
So GREAT! I hate Bud Lite as a beer, but I’d purchase a case w/ Joy on the bottles/cans‼️‼️🫶🏼🫶🏼👍🏽🇺🇸🗳️💪🏽
Bless his heart he endure so much. From other people's ignorance.
As a middle school social studies in Hawaii, I love sharing with my students that I had the opportunity to wear 42 during my college softball career about 25 years ago and teach the students a lesson about him; not just his incredible athleticism, but more importantly a lesson about true character and class. It is hard to not get emotional when I think about what he went through. The students love it and so many of them know so little about the US civil right struggles being so young and also so removed from the mainland USA.
It is my pleasure to share Jackie's story with my students.
Thx for this 👍
Absolutely fantastic story.
Thanks for sharing!!
Wonderful.😃👍
I salute Jackie Robinson! 🙏🏽
All these truths spoken of on this program are a part of American history that must be faced, documented and used for positive, progressive change.
Keep up the good fight 👍
It was his talent not his color, when can we stop the division, his team loved him and he was a inspiration, my grandfather gave me his rookie card and I still hold it as my prized possession, he said son don't listen to these people in the neighborhood calling him all theses names, that man broke barriers, thank you Jackie
💥💥💥Joy💥💥👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾42
Do a video on Hank Aaron's legacy.
Now, this was a true civil rights LEADER. Nothing like the kids today.
You don't know millions of kids, though. You don't know who they are or what they are.
I take exception w/ your comment. Young people today hv swung countless recent elections, ARE engaged, do have strong opinions, AND are scaring the hel/ out of these ‘new’ GOP/Ultra-MAGAS’ as they’ve been asked to be called.
One more generation & they are completely outnumbered. NOT by ‘replacement theory’ (such B.S.) but by their OWN children, along with countless others, raised understanding the Constitution & Democracy, dire issues facing us, & they hv a BURNING 🔥 anger about the Country/World they’re being handed. If just my 3 early 20-somethings, + partners are any indication; I advise you to buckle up!!
My advice is to always avoid “otherism,” as when a leader/group/average person/s SAYS that they’re going to do something: listen/watch! B/c they intend to exactly as they’ve said. Perhaps you’re not listening to all of the youth movements much, nor viewing their protests 🤔🔥💪🏽🇺🇸🗳️
Beg to differ...remember Justin Jones and Justin Pierson? Tennessee!
@@elaineburnett5230 That was a joke, right? 🤣
@@elaineburnett5230 Absolutely perfect example! As will be tomorrow’s protests v the Supreme Court’s impending decision. 🤬🤬🤯
That was a very compelling story of the man I never met , though heard lots of good things about! I’m from Brooklyn and I wish they had not taken down Ebbits field, but it was replaced by low income housing apartment buildings in Jackie Robinsons name and honor! I loved that Brooklyn jacket!!
I highly recommend Ken Burns' fantastic 9-part "Baseball" documentary, where he devotes an entire episode to Jackie Robinson. (There's an added 10th "inning", as Burns calls the episodes.)
Even Democrats couldn't stop Jackie, great American right there!
👍
I remember 1958 my uncle was playing American legion baseball when a bus load of black baseball players pull up and challenged them to a game. Yale Oklahoma had a very good team but they didn't belong on the same field as these players. Betts were made . It looked like the Harlem globetrotters playing playing baseball.
Something I'll never forget.
Jackie Robinson 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Do they still have that in Florida???
Rachel's the same age as my great-grandmother!
God bless Rachel, and your great-grandmother as well. The day we lose Rachel will be a sad day for a lot of people.
What are people afraid of. It’s the differences in all of us that makes life interesting. Get out of your bubble and you will see.
Better not tell Ron DeSantis. He will remove Mr Jackie Robinson from history books.
I’m surprized they did not give him the month.
You cannot be the real BB, but he should hv a National Holiday!! Truly.
Professional Sports must have been boring before integration.
Jackie was an American Hero? How many lives did he save? What courageous, selfless acts did he accomplish? You should start having stories on American War Veterans that actually did something!
@@jeffreyc1971 I've seen several movies and documentaries about him. How many lives did he save? Are you saying he was a surgeon? Did he discover a miracle cure to some disease? I don't recall seeing that on anything I watched about him.
@Jeffrey Casanova I even Googled Jackie Robinson's accomplishments and I still didn't see any heroic feats. One that came close was Breaking the color barrier, but then why are we seeing abuse against blacks to this day? And even by their own people. Like those cops beating Nicols to death?
@@jeffreyc1971 I don't expect a response from you Jeff. Have a great day 👍
@@jeffreyc1971 he's the past. Sport stars in my opinion are over rated and over paid. There are many many unsung hero's that deserve recognition and to be remembered like Pat Tillman who sacrificed for us all.
@@jeffreyc1971 who's death is futher out? Want me to help you count too?
There were no African-Americans on either World Series team last year. Talk about that too. Yes, there were people of color but not the kinds that I was referring to.
How disappointed he would be to see the state of things now with some suggesting segregation should be reinstated. ☹️
I would love to see the baseball leagues and NBA take a stand and get involved. The days are gone for Ingraham’s “Shut up and dribble”.
Btw my grandfather was white and my grandma was black, there was no color seen in his house
You know every Republican is calling baseball woke today.
I've always thought it stupid to celebrate Birthday's long long after a person has passed. Just take time to silently reflect...that's it. Smh
So, should we celebrate Christmas?
@@jeffreyc1971 what's Christmas have to do with highly paid sport individuals? You should be asking "Do we celebrate Hercules and all the Greek Mythology so called Gods?"
@@jeffreyc1971 so you're saying all mortal men are equivalent to Jesus? So you are equivalent to Jesus? I sure ain't. Congratulations! Good for you Jeff. 👍
HEY EVERYONE! JEFF CASANOVA IS EQUIVALENT TO JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO HIM! YOU ALL MAKE SURE TO GIVE HIM PRAISE ALONG WITH JESUS CHRIST AT CHURCH NEXT TIME! "GLORY BE TO GOD & JEFF CASANOVA!" AAAAAAMMMMEEEENNNN!
@@jeffreyc1971 you definitely are not good at debates and don't even try it with me because you'll be up past your bedtime. I've been around this whole world twice, seen sun sets and sun rises that you will never see, built churches for the religious and liberated God's people. No it's not Moses...that was me during my time in the Marine Corps. YAT YAS!!!
The major league owners and more so yhe players were so hesitant to have blacks play because they knew that black players were better.
00:02 👈 documented RACIST. ✅
💯. She's a liar as well. Where are all the schools that are banning books about people like Jackie Robinson? It's a load of 💩.
😬😬 MAGA TAMPON CULT LEADER 😬😬
Black history month is in February, don't use one of the best ball players for race baiting
Read the title, stooge
Today is Jackie Robinson Day, how is that race baiting?
@@primuskuhl because he's being forced to see that the history of America is not always pretty, and that's a hard pill to swallow for some people if you didn't grow up learning that. But also why it's important to tell these stories.
Hey MAGA man, every month is black history month. Our story is the story of America. Too bad they want to wipe out the true history of America in their racist campaign against CRT etc. Jackie Robinson is one of the greatest Americans ever
@@primuskuhl His color doesn't matter he was a great player.
@msnbc Jackie Robinson was great I celebrate this day, I wish you hadnt given the story to someone as racist as joy Reid
Race race race. Report on the first person to own slaves in the US then get back to us.
How is that related to Jackie Robinson Day, snowflake?
