The Director of the DoJ has the job and responsibility to say which cases go forward and which can't for various reasons. That he abused that power doesn't make it illegal to do it. This is one of the reasons that people in these positions need to be honest players because they hold a lot of power and when they abuse it while staying within the rules, there's not a lot that can be done besides the President removing them.

If he prevented the prosecution and later discovery of it, it should be tolled more. If he concealed it by taking the documents regarding it, it should be tolled for that. And I agree, a foreign bribe during an election sounds like treason to me. Refusing to release the bank records may be preventing the "witness" to overt treason, and should be impermissible.

Reporters don't eat lunch in a SCIF photocopying things to later publish.

Clearly Barr can be interviewed as to why he abruptly ended all investigations. Bank records can still be audited, records may still be checked. I PRAY this Washington Post story, like their relentless Watergate probe 52 years ago, does NOT fade away.
No. Because it was a concealed crime…that has now come to light. Limitations are tolled in this type of circumstance. Additionally, RICO laws extends such limitation to 10 years…and additional 10 years for the overt act of concealment; essentially, a sum of 20 years from the initial crime. That how I read the RICO provisions a long time ago. I hope that still holds. A good prosecutor to fashion a charge and go after them!
Why didn't Biden's DOJ with new leadership all across the board in 2020 pick up this investigation? Even if Bill Barr killed this investigation on his watch what about Merrick Garland and Lisa Monaco? It seems the DOJ is a rotting institution that's more interested in protecting itself rather than the American people.

Statute of limitations. The original bribe has been known for over five years, so it's a dead letter. The case was killed by Barr, and if killing the case for corrupt reasons might meet the standard for obstruction, he might have some trouble. The five years may be at a beginning since his role just recently came to light.
