    What a handsome young man Mr. Robinson was. What a brilliant smile. That sculpture is very well done, a real work of art.

    If for nothing else, thanks for showing Robinson's World Series steal of home AND Yogi's furious reaction to the safe call. Never gets old.

    • @thomaswolf723
      @thomaswolf723 2 года назад

      It was the correct call. Yogi was wrong. Another camera angle, rarely shown, makes it clear.

    Herb Washington, a world class sprinter but non baseball player, was hired by Oakland A's owner Charles Finley to be a designated runner for the 1974 season.
    In 1974 Herb never batted, but stole 29 bases and scored 29 runs. He had an embarrassing moment in the ninth inning of Game 2 of the 1974 World Series when, as the potential tying run, he was picked off first base by Dodger ace reliever Mike Marshall. (You can see a clip of this on youtube) Nevertheless, he received a World Series ring as the A's defeated the Dodgers by winning four out of five games. Herb was released by the A's the next year and never returned to baseball. In his later life he became a successful businessman.

    Herb Washington has a unique place in baseball history. He was the only full-time pinch-runner. Played in over 100 games and never batted and never played the field. He also never played in the minors.

      For those unfamiliar, Bill James tells a story in his Historical Baseball Abstract that has a less positive reaction of a Caucasian player to his African American teammate's home run. They all can't be feel good stories.

      I'm pretty sure that BLM has more to do than delete posts regarding baseball in 1946. Here is the link to the BLM about page. Take a moment to read it and inform yourself. If you disagree with the mission then you fully know why.
