    I have an extreme mileage 2017 Pacifica LX that I purchased in January 2017. I use it as a contractor driver delivering auto parts on a 500 mile loop five nights a week. I have 155k miles as of May 11th 2018 (that reminds me, I need to do my 15k oil change this weekend). I had a transmission oil change done on it around 135k miles because it was whining as it neared 3k rpm just before up shifting and that seemed rather disconcerting. More on that in a minute.
    The van is pretty fantastic for the most part. It is super comfy for my route and my lower back is thankful. In warm weather, I regularly get 30mpg occasionally 31-32 in hilly western PA with a few hundred pounds of auto parts and that saves me thousands a year in fuel over another contractor who does a similar route in a Ford Explorer and only gets 23-25mpg. I can tow my Bayliner 175 (total 2500lbs boat/trailer/gas/gear) up a 7% grade in a residential street at 25mph at 2k rpm! Now that's torque!
    The stereo is great, though the media interface could use some serious work. Just hard to go from one track to another on a USB. And if you're listening to a two hour podcast and try to fast forward through the commercials fifteen minutes from the end and hit a bump and accidentally bump the fast forward which then becomes a track skip, you have to go back to the beginning of the podcast and sit there with your finger on the button for about 15 minutes as it slowly fast forwards to the spot you left off at. But you get what you pay for and the Pacifica is one of the cheapest minivans out there for a base trim which is what I have.
    I have not had a single repair yet at 155k but that's normal for a newer vehicle on a route. I had a Civic and went 229k in two years and sold it without ever having a repair. I sent my trans oil from the change at 135k in for analysis at Black Stone Labs and threw my engine oil in there as well (15k intervals, full synth filter and oil). I'm curious to see the results. I'm putting my money on them telling me I should have changed the trans oil sooner but we'll see!
    So about that transmission... You have to remove the drivers side wheel and control arm and suck the fluid out as there is no drain. They were only able to get a little over half of it out or about 3.5 quarts. $40 labor was great but $140ish in fluid at $40 a quart sucked but it's running better now, shifting more smoothly and doesn’t take 5-7 seconds to engage when shifting from reverse into drive. I know I'll just have to get it done every 50k miles or so from now on as I can't do a full change. It's super frustrating knowing that your transmission won't last as long because you can't keep fresh oil in it without dropping the pan and changing the gasket and making a mess. I've only ever had vehicles I've been able to drain and fill myself and using full synth and only spending around $40 a gallon was nice. Sadly, the Odyssey and the Sienna are the same way now with these 'sealed' units. Not an issue if you're buying new and selling in five years and only put normal miles on it but an issue for me! For the record Chrysler dealerships won't change it because it's listed as 'lifetime fluid.' But lifetime for me was starting to whine at 130k. So I doubt I would be seeing 200k if I didn't do a change.
    Would I buy another one? I will run this one into the ground first and get back to you. Another driver had a 2012 Ford Escape and serviced the trans fluid full drain and fill every 50k and didn’t need a rebuild 'til 423k.
    Lastly, If you go to get one of these new, you will be offered a Mopar unlimited warranty from the dealer. I have researched it and talked to someone with a Jeep who, despite not going off roading, went through two engines in seven years. He confirmed that as long as you get the oil changed my a professional within the recommended interval (mine was anything up to 10k), and save every receipt, they will pay for the new engine, or trans, or shocks and struts, electrical repairs, you name it. And the standard deductible is $100. Repairs at dealerships only but, since you’re only paying a hundred bucks, who cares!
    The catch is that if the vehicle is totaled, or you sell it, it voids the warranty. Also, way down the line, if the retail value is less than the cost of repairs, they will cut you a check for the value and void it. If you get it through a dealer, for me, the cost was about $3700. I called Mopar directly though and they offered it with the same deductible for $3100. Since it’s 2k just to change the shocks and struts every couple hundred thousand miles, it’s well worth it. It doesn’t cover commercial use though so, blast, I’m out. But great for anyone looking to buy one and keep it for at least ten years.
    So, would I recommend this van? I don’t know. The sealed transmission is a terrible idea but, if you can pick one up base trim for under 22k and the warranty is only around 3k, you are still coming in cheaper than a base trim Sienna and although the Pacifica has a lower reliability, being covered so well makes it an enticing buy.

      Good idea to rent, way to know if you really like it. I drive a '15 Toy Highlander LE, with just over 20K miles now. I don't log alot of miles, so all I've read of Chrysers' in the past should not be an issue for me. Plus, I know they are building all cars way better these days.
      I'm usually a Toyota/ Honda car-SUV-truck buyer. But i sure like the interior (seats) features of this Pacifica. I have to go rent one now. Cuz, I gots to know!!! ;>)
      Howdy from TX; hope y'all enjoyed the trip here n back. peace, e.

    • @ernieD
      @ernieD 5 лет назад +1

      @@reginaalear After all my research, I think I could be happy in a mini-van.
      My Toyota dealer sends me letters in the mail weekly with offers of a new, 2019 HL for just $40-$50 more monthly payment. I get tempted but I've never used the 3rd row seat in my HL. It has always stayed folded down. I use the cargo area for my music gear I haul to gigs.
      I don't really want another SUV with a 3rd row seat I'll never use. Back then I test drove the 4Runner too. I liked the smoother ride of the Highlander.
      I like what I am seeing of the new, 2019 Honda Passport. Only 5 passenger seating, about 9" shorter than the Pilot. I may go test ride it. But I'm still thinking to try out the '19 Sienna SE for maximum cargo area. But I do like my Toyotas'. ;>)
      And that Passport not much less $$ than the Pilot, if at all. C'mon Honda really? Finally, if I test drove a new HL in SE model, I'd prolly bring it home. But still need to try a Pacifica SE as well. Enjoy that HL-SE, should be fun.

      I'm 6' 9" and I've driven many SUVs and I prefer vans overall. They're just more comfortable, for me. Well, the Dodge Grand Caravan is. A lot of Minivans don't have the head and/or leg room, for me.

    • @weberaudio
      @weberaudio 2 года назад +1

      I totally agree. I use to be a Mobile DJ years ago and picked up an old 92 Dodge Caravan for hauling my gear. I was always a performance car guy, but I found myself driving the van for convenience more and more. I got 242k miles out of it and when it died, found another one and repeated the process all over again. In 2005 I bought and SXT and even though I didn’t do the DJ work anymore, I still preferred the van over any other vehicle I have ever owned. Comfortable, handy, quiet, and smooth. When it finally gave up the ghost after 230k miles, I bought an SUV, but I’m seriously considering one of these vans. The SUV isn’t quite a car, isn’t quite a van (it does neither well if you ask me).

    An update- my Pacifica S model as shown here in this video is doing great. There was one recall that was quickly taken care of , and had zero issues at all. Engine is strong and 9 speed ZF is smooth changing gears. I average 27-8 mpg. And I use these same 18 wheels not the 20s they offer. The 18s provide a quiet soft ride and the 20s ride is more bumpy and not recommended. Get the 18s. So far this vehicle is doing well. First year was flawless. I'll update in another year see how it goes. Definitely recommend this Pacifica for families. Better than crossovers or SUVs .

    I saw the commercial of this sporty minivan every time when I watch Nickelodeon, but my sister wanted that minivan because there are LCD TVs at the back of the front seats just like in the Ford Expedition Limited/King Ranch/Platinum, Lincoln Navigator, Chevrolet Tahoe Premier/GMC Yukon Denali, Chevrolet Suburban Premier/GMC Yukon XL Denali, Honda Pilot Touring/Elite, Cadillac Escalade, and more.

    I really wished they would have put a sport mode with paddle shifters. Especially with the S package. An AWD option would of also been great.

    This van looks GOOD in all black to me. Unfortunately I don't buy black car. I usually like and buy silver, but I love how this one looks in all black and how all the trim seems to fit together nicely. But I never buy a new vehicle for their first couple of years of production. Otherwise I'd definitely be interested in buying this. But I'll be done paying off my 2015 Grand Caravan and after that I don't want another car note.

    25 year old single male but this is like my dream ride when it comes to current production vehicles. I love how comfortable and functional the minivan is. They get unnecessary hate but fuck those people. This thing is pure luxury.

    Hey mike can u do a review on the Pacifica hybrid

  • @chrisreed26
    @chrisreed26 4 года назад +1

    I'm a huge fan of all your reviews as they are probably the best on RUclips, in my opinion..Anyway..I have been tossing the idea of a Town And Country minivan for some time now..a 2012-2015 used model..I won't ever buy new...way too much depreciation on these as well as any new car...I never thought about the new Pacifica since the previous Pacifica was a huge mess...but this is a whole different model using the same name..My question is this..Is this Pacifica smaller inside than the regular Town And Country minivan? I want the most room possible inside as I want cargo hauling capability as well as occasional camping ability..Thanks!

    @MikesCarInfo, i got a Chrysler Grand Voyager Limited, it really looks like this but i think ours is a lot bigger and longer than this, correct me if I am wrong. I was expecting that since this one is 2018 is a lot added to it, since ours is older a 2012 Chrysler Grand Voyager Limited Diesel, but it turns our it's almost the same, in fact this one i notice don't have food tray and 6 headsets and some features that ours have this one don't. If may i ask how much this one if brand new?

    It would be nice to have a color scheme that can be toggled through for all the dashboard lighted parts including any small buttons, this would be helpful on days you want a different color that might set the mood for a special event. Well I will have to get me one of these, I hope it comes in red, I like all my vehicles to be red because it's a much safer color. Red only clashes with the evening sunsets if the sky is red. I prefer to not drive during the evenings and so I never need to worry about that much.

    Actually, Chrysler went with the Pacific name because they didn’t want to chance the successful name plate of the Town & Country. If the new Pacifica (new town & country) fails, it wouldn’t mean they lose their kudos. The T&C was the most successful mini van ever and the last gen was a complete success. Moving into a more streamlined mini van may bother some of client base that have been use to and very fond of the boxy van style. If people take to this new crysler mini van, they may bring the name back. Chrysler has done this before. REMEMBER the Sebring being changed to 200 S?

    An observation if I may ? I don't have 1 of these but the pass through under centre console has a possible flaw ? to me. If say have a long object passed through because carrying wood or pipes for a weekend DIY, if put on brakes heavy, wouldn't it move forward into front USB and charger port and break them or at least the covers for them ?

    I bought a 2018 Pacifica in January at 5,000 miles and the car engine light already went on otherwise it's rise nice the only downside I found is that that I don't like is that the car phone will not charge unless the engine is on one-wheel beauty is that the car will automatically break if you get to an object behind you and especially if some dude decides to walk right behind your car as it backing up

    • @ernieD
      @ernieD 5 лет назад +1

      Please come back and let us know what the ENGINE light turned out to be. If yours has the no gas cap feature, a loose gas cap would be my first check. But you should def go see your dealer at only 5K miles. Myself, I don't know if any auto that will charge a phone without engine running? At least my '15 Toy HL won't.
