Since mutant powers manifest themselves during periods of extreme stress in adolescence, I would say a bully targeting you qualifies as a stress factor. For those that don't know, in the comics, Scott cannot control his optic blasts because of a head injury he sustained when his parents were lost to an alien abduction. His power is basically stuck in the "on" position.
in some comics he is shown being able to control it for a small amount of time
And in the movies he cant control his powers because hes incompetent

He can open his eye's with the Visor and with a dial can make the beam larger or smaller since it funnels the energy in a certain direction

He's developing his powers, it would make sense for them to not be full power from the get-go. I think it makes absolutely perfect sense. It had enough force to bend and warp the (what I imagine was a) stainless steel door, and burn maybe 3 centimeters into the tiles and ceiling.
Plus his beams are concussive not heat

Its a psychological issue, not a physical one. When Scott Summers was a young man, he was forced to jump out of a burning plane, and he hit his head during the landing. This resulted in neurological damage. He can't control his blasts when his eyes are open, but he does not generate the blasts when his eyes are closed.
JD's not able to explain, making me think he's projecting a little bit.
Scott's powers are like an inter-dimensional portal through his eyes (I believe more accurately his retina), and his own body is able to negate and resist that power. When he closes his eyelids, he's essentially shutting off the connection to that other dimension, he doesn't really have any additional resistance to things.
Nope Scott is immune to his own power also havok too that's the reason he can't be hurt by his own optic blast
It could be a trigger survival mechanism like how you can't bite your own fingers off or a package deal with his mutation only affecting that part of his face.

@@FilthyActs Pretty much any tree will start burning from that high of a friction, still doesn’t really behave like a lazer. Had it been a lazer, the water would have started evaporating from the part that it hit.

What? The main villain in this movie, Apocalypse, is a guy from thousands of years in the past, so no, mutants were not created by goverment experiments. However, there are military/goverment basements that experiment with mutants or even create them while experimenting with normal people. But in general, no, mutants born like that, it's in their genes.
A perfectly good example of understanding mutants is people who are born intersex that affect some of us either at birth, puberty years, later in adolescent or adulthood.

Well, I think he went to the bathroom because he knew the bully was going to follow him, and the bully seemed a more pressing issue than his eyes hurting. Plus, it’s safer to lock yourself in a stall than go to the nurses office. At least in a teenagers mind. The bully just wanted to scare and intimidate him, and since he already thought Scott was crying, he was probably just banging on the door to be a dick. Your argument is valid tho, just thought I might explain it from my perspective. 🙂
