C'etait l'époque où Renault faisait de belles voitures. Bravo pour cette superbe restauration 👍 La Caravelle Renault avec son moteur de R8 que l'on confond souvent avec la Floride dont le moteur et le train arrière est emprunté à la Dauphine. La différence exterieure de ces 2 modèles se repère à certaines parties de carrosserie comme les entrées d'air de refroidissement moteur au niveau du bas des ailes arrière pour la floride (comme sur la Dauphine) et au niveau du capot arrière sur la Caravelle (comme sur la R8)
I drove a Caravelle in 1967. It was a terrible car, but I loved it, and still do. It has aged better than me.

Our family had one (white w/red interior) in the Gordini S version. My dad and I built a pulley rig to pull the hardtop into the garage rafters and I thought we were pretty cool! I was too young to drive so I don't have those memories and recall being enamored with our Healey 3000 as it seemed the more serious car and mom used the Renault more for errands, etc. Thanks for posting this interesting little corner of car history! Looks to be a first class job on a deserving little car!
Meticulous restoration of a lovely car. I imagine it is better now than when it left the factory. An excellent job. Love it.

I worked for a Renault garage from 1962-73, overhauled lots of those engines fitted in various models; very easy engines to work on and would last if looked after; the one in the piece certainly looks like it didn't have very frequent oil changes! ...the Floride and Caravelle were"pretty" cars rather than performers.
Actually very lucky it went back together, doors removed, rocker panels replaced and I did not see one single brace or cross brace on the interior so the car didn’t go out of square.
When you restore a convertible you must cross brace the interior so the car doesn’t go out of square.
Never heard of it, but boy what a beautiful little car.

Excellent restoration of what is still today a very pretty car. Such a shame it's let down by it's Dauphine heritage.

Pretty car! Good for cars and coffee, but would be scared to try to take on a highway today. Parents had a '68 R10 back in the seventies and it was all in to get to the speed limit of 55 MPH. They are tiny cars too. My 6'4" 260 lb frame would be unhappy.

I had one in the mid 60's the handbook recommended you did not Jack up the car with the doors open to avoid body flexing! It was a US spec car imported to the UK it ran better after taking off all that anti pollution rubbish.
Wish Renault was back in Canada.

Que hermoso auto El puente trasero es muy parecido al del Renault Gordini Pero creo este modelo es un motor más grande Es 1100 cc o 1300 Mientras que el GORDINI es 843
Just curious, does Renault still have a dealer network in the US?
I wish. Have a 61 and a 66. Needed a fiber timing gear for the 61 and tried to order it from France but regulations won't allow it to be sent to the USA. Very helpful, suggesting if I had a friend in Canada, they could send it there; I know no one in Canada... Finally got one thru E-bay.

My customer had asked me to restore his Caravelle too, but I've got no idea on where to get all the parts.
I know you wanted to keep it all original , But I think I would have made it injected, It would not have hurt the value,And would have been a better starter and driver an fuel efficient. But Beautiful Restore.

Early 90s Hounslow London there were two of these cars in a garden. I often wondered what happened to them.
One was red I think the other was a silver colour. Well done on your restoration, but the music really isn't suitable.

Les jantes blanches bof c 'est gris métal et les pneus a flanc blanc. Le hard top serais plus joli en noir,la c 'est tout blanc ,il ne ressort pas du tout

I had a Renault R8 with the 956cc engine as my first car. To each his own, but I prefer 'live' videos where all the processes are shown and discussed, like Elon's Rusty Beauties. The same music played over and over is irritating to me. This is just my opinion, and as you have more than 33k subscribers, shows that a lot of people enjoy your videos.

Despite having an incredibly large front area, is this car rear-engined? I think the engineers were drunk when designing this. Otherwise it's a nice car overall.
Yes, they are rear-engined.
It was built on the Dauphine platform to compete with Volkswagen's Karmann Ghia. Ford's Mustang used styling elements from the Floride/Caravelle. I believe this was designed about seven years before the Mustang.

in the end, you have a very nice french rust bucket! it is still a renault! renault made crappy cars.
I agree regarding the rust. However, mechanically they were quite modern. Replaceable cylinder sleeves, hardened valve seats and a far more comfortable ride than Volkswagen's Beetle.
What an atrocious musical choice.
