  • It's time to talk about sexual attraction of hormones during menopause. What’s with all the mixed messages? Are phytoestrogens good for you or not? What is a phytoestrogen, anyway? Are they as strong as the estrogen my body produced? How do they compare to pharmaceutical estrogens? So many questions! In this tutorial, I’ll give you the basic science behind phytoestrogens and teach you how they differ from your body’s natural estrogen and form pharmaceutical estrogens.

    These videos are so important to me right now, because my doctor is working with me and a compounding pharmacy for bioidentical hormones, which is my preference. She always gives me the other option of prescription hormones. If you have a fibroids or a cyst on your ovaries, does estrogen make them grow? Love your videos!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +8

      You're in a good place. As for estrogen's effect on cysts and fibroids, small doses like the ones you get for menopause should have no effect on either of them. In general, hormone dependent ovarian cysts (like the ones we all have throughout our reproductive lives) and fibroids shrink after the transition into menopause. See, there are some good things about menopause!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +9

      Really, you want a whole video on what I eat in a day? Why don't I just tell you right here right now? I think it would make a pretty boring video!
      As soon as I get out of bed (4 or 5 AM), I have a protein shake with vegetable protein & soy milk. I make it thick.
      About 3 hours later (7 - 8 AM), I have a big bowl of oatmeal with peanut butter or raisins in it.
      About 2 hours later (10 - 11 AM) (oatmeal never sticks with me more than 2 hours), I have some vegan yogurt with fruit and nuts.
      About 2 hours later 12 - 1 PM), I have a huge salad or stir fry with all sorts of vegan protein, veggies, nuts, and seeds. You never know what you might find in one of my big salads or stir fry. This mid-day meal is my largest meal of the day. I usually smother a salad in olive oil and balsamic glaze.
      At some point, I have to have dark chocolate.
      About 3 hours later (3 - 4 PM), I have a bowl of mixed nuts. I crave fat, so I eat a lot of nuts. Or I have some fruit. Or I have a vegan protein bar, sometimes dipped in peanut butter. Or I have some vegan cold cuts on wheat bread.
      About 2 hours later (5 -6 PM), I have a big bowl of vegan yogurt, or some vegan cold cuts.
      I go to bed at about 8 - 9 PM most nights, so I snack a bit until then on a bite of this or that.
      I eat like a baby ... every 2 or 3 hours. I always have. I can't imagine going more than 3 hours without eating. And I have food everywhere: my purse, my car, my suitcase.

      Menopause Barbie Oh NO not boring at ALL!!! I think you would be surprised how many people love those videos! It is a teaching moment and learning for us. It gives encouragement and inspiration to women. It gives great examples of "how to eat healthy" and to be creative. Not everyone fully knows these things and it is truly helpful. Just try it and see what people say🤗. Do you eat raw? Are you vegan? Do you eat meat? Do you believe in intermittent fasting? How about drinking coffee and wine? Very helpful and yes very interesting to many. Maybe not just say what you eat but also show video of you preparing it and explain why you eat what you do. Please 🙏

    PS how does an ablation change the hormone decisions?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад

      An ablation does not change anything about your hormone decisions. All it does is destroy the lining of your uterus. But you still have to protect it by using hormones in the same way you would if you hadn't had the ablation.
      I'm glad you're learning.

      Thanks Barbie. It seems that no period for more than 12 months but no physical way to tell if you are truly in menopause. When do your ovaries stop producing estrogen. Is there a blood test that would 'confirm' menopause? I would think one would need to be done before the Dr. Started a perception for hormones?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад

      You can go based on your other symptoms of menopause. There are 21 others besides disappearing periods. (Tutorials 10, 11, & 12) A blood test is entirely optional and you certainly don't "need" one to suspect you're menopausal.
      If you're only peri-menopausal, a blood test will be totally confusing. Up one day & down the next, because you're hormones are on a rollercoaster.
      Once you reach post-menopause, your FSH & LH will be permanently elevated, and your estrogen & progesterone will be permanently low.
      If your symptoms are miserable, don't wait for a blood test to declare that you're post-menopausal. You can certainly take something to alleviate your symptoms long before that ... in any category.

      You're right. Estrogen will feed your endometriosis. But there are other parts of your body that will suffer without it. Be sure to monitor your bones for osteoporosis, and do as much as you can with non-hormonal options to manage your menopause.

      I take clonidine for hot flushes and as yet I'm still on a low dose. I also take omegas, glucosamine, multivitamins and calcium every day. I don't have a family history of heart trouble and my pulse/BP are on the lower end of normal. Many years ago (when I was a student nurse) the cardiologist hooked me up to all the monitors, to let me see my rhythmn compared to the patients we had seen that morning. He said it was something out of a textbook and never expected to see me. He thought I was an athlete till I explained "no I rode a motorbike in my spare time". After shaking his head when I explained my lifestyle he said it was purely genetics - see I said I wasn't a conformist x.

    I have been told that estrogen dominance causes large breast and weight gain. Also that plastics and soy cause the body to over produce estrogen . But I seem to have symptoms of low estrogen according to your list. Ugh! I think I have been misdiagnosed.

      You have been manipulated and sold a bag of tricks. Don't feel badly. You are like most women ... which is WHY I make these videos for you.
      What you'll fine is that everything makes sense ... when it's the truth. Why so many women believer things that sound completely backward, I'll never know.
      You'll get to a series of videos on estrogen dominance. (Don't jump ahead.) I think you're starting to see how valuable accurate information is.
      You see, I have nothing to sell you. I have absolutely no reason to distort the truth. But anyone selling anything distorts the truth to make you buy their product. I always say, "If there's a product involved ... RUN!"

    As I understand, if we eat a lot of phytoestrogen foods, and they take up all of the estrogen receptors, our natural estrogen won't have any receptors to bind to? (and therefore we get less than optimal "perfect fit" estrogen benefits). Would you agree?

    I watched one of your videos (watched so many that I cannot remember which one now) where you shared about estrogen receptors located in the breasts, uterus, bones, heart (?), brain (?). So what do these estrogen do when they bind to the receptors in these cells? Like in the case of the bones, what does estrogen actually do when bound to the bone cell? 🤔

    Thank you !!!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад

      Dry skin is one of the many annoying symptoms of menopause. It's dry because estrogen is a lubricant for your skin. When your estrogen is gone, your skin's lubricant is gone.
      Here are the possible solutions:
      First, avoid the sun
      Drink lots of water.
      Eat lots of fiber & fatty fish.
      Slather on the lotion.
      Tak antioxidant vitamins: C, E, A, CoQ10, Alpha Lipoic Acid.
      Drink green tea
      Use estrogen with or without progesterone.
      This is Chapter 19 in my book.

      Menopause Barbie Thank You so much, I've been trying to stay moisturized but been having some difficulties as most burn and cause more itching and sometimes rash. I'm told it's because most moisturizers have alcohol 😮

    Hi ladies...have any of you tried Estroven for weight management? My gyno recommended it and was wondering if anybody had good results :-)

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      Estroven contains Black Cohosh and Soy Isoflavones (both of which have some of the effects of estrogen) and calcium. Many women use it for menopause, but it's not specifically for "weight management." Weight gain is one of the 22 symptoms of menopause.
      You'll see reference to Estroven in videos 31 and 39 (but watch all the videos in order so that you don't confuse yourself.)

    Dr. Barbie like fractions to whole numbers? In other words plant estrogens work on a much smaller scale compared to bioidentical? Is this what you are saying?.. If you compare your fraction amount to terms of money you are not even getting a whole penny, but bioidentical a whole dollar. Sorry for the dumb question. I need Menopause for Dummies 101(haha)

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад +1

      Yes, that's right. Phytoestrogens are only 1/100 - 1/1000 as strong as your estrogen.
