      I'm using over the counter progesterone cream and estriol cream. I've done well since 2018 and now I'm a mess. Most likely from using more progesterone cream than estrogen. In my quest to feel better I'm using different doses but never using more than labeled. Way back in 2009 I used a compounding pharmacist who was a scatterbrain at best and I felt awful then on and off. I feel that way now, awful! I'm watching your videos in order and learning so much. I'm going to watch this one over. Thank you, Barbie ❤

    Hello Dr T - I'm very much enjoying your video series. Thank you. I'm now considering buying your book but I see it was written about 14 years ago. I worry it may not have completely updated info...? Do you feel all sections are still 100% accurate? For example... diet. Do you still believe a low fat, whole grain diet is the way to go? What about the high "good" fats/keto diet we now see sprouting up everywhere? Also I'm curious if there is new info on bio identical hormones? Thanks again, you're helping me very much. I find you to be trustworthy... a great thing to find in the sea of youtube info floating around.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 лет назад +7

      Most of my book is incredibly current. There are a couple of new products, but the fact that I present everything in every category means that I'm not focusing on just one product or category of products. It was published in 2008, and I'm currently working on the second edition. But, it will take a year or so to be available. You're best off with the book and the videos.
      Forget about "dieting." Anything that has a beginning and an end will never work for you especially once you're menopausal. The goal is to learn how to eat in a way that you can maintain, and, in the process, maintain your weight, that will NEVER change, no matter what kind of diet surfaces as the latest fad.
      The information on bioidentical hormones in my book is also current. The only thing "new" about bioidentical hormones are all the new marketing schemes for them. They've been around forever. Most of the pharmaceutical estrogen replacement products are bioidentical (estradiol). Don't let fads sway you.
      You'll always get logical, sensible facts from em. I have nothing to sell you i the way of a product. I'm all about education. That's it.

  • @cibertronx
    @cibertronx 6 лет назад +1

    I have read a lot about this issue, learning that the problem with these hormones, also with phitoestrogenic plants or pills, is that the go through the stomach, liver and such, and by the time they reach your blood there is almost none left. That is why the should be implanted via pellets under your skin. These combination includes progesterone, estrogens and testosterone from soya and Mexican ñame. I believe in the end they are also kind of synthetic products. However, they seem to cause less side effects than traditional treatment.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 лет назад +12

      It is true that estrogen you take by mouth gets absorbed through your digestive tract. That means it passes through your liver. But you are incorrect I'm assuming that there's nothing left by the time it gets into your blood stream.
      The fact is that, by going through your liver, it increases the risk of blood clots. Not drastically, but some. That's the disadvantage to estrogen taken by mouth.
      With any estrogen source that is absorbed directly through your skin (patch, cream, gel, spray, vaginal ring), the estrogen does not go through your liver. That means they have a lower risk of blood clots.
      Pellets are not unique in reducing your risk of blood clots. All the options I listed above (patch, cream, gel, spray, vaginal ring) have the same benefit.
      It sounds to me like someone who was trying to sell you the pellets "educated" you. Please know that I'll always tell you the whole truth. I'm not trying to sell you anything. I want you to know all the pros and cons of every option.

    Well, well, well, that was an eye opener!
    Ok, now I know the differences between bioidentical and nonbioidentical hormones, custom made etc.
    Next thing I had to do was to check the leaflet from the hormones that I m already taking, to check if they are bioidentical or not. Guess what? No such information is included in both estrogen and progesteron that I am using! As if the manufacturer considered this as trivial and unimportant information to include, as if the consumer isn't entitled to know! I searched online and was finally able to find - what a surprise - that they are bioidentical indeed! Who would be known. I m talking about oestrogel and utrogestan pill.
    Thanks again for the great video.

      You are so welcome. And you deserve to know everything!
      The real problem is the misuse of the word "bioidentical." Most women use it to mean "compounded." But both pharmaceutical and compounded HRT can be bioidentical.

      Do you want to know the funny part, Dr Taylor? A few weeks after my doctor proscribed the estrogen and the progesteron, I asked her whather opinion on bioidentical hormones was and if she would prescribed them to me. Her answer was that they are not so effective and she wouldn't prescribe them! In other words, she, my health care provider, has no idea what bioidentical hormones are, and has no idea what she had already prescribed to me! Ugh...

I see you mentioned Houston and that's where I live! Do you have any suggestions on a naturopathic doc here in Houston or an ob/gyn that "specializes" in this area? • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад +2

      Mona,
      My best suggestion for you is to schedule a consultation with me. I can tell by your comment that it will save you soooo many pitfalls. In a consultation, I will make sure you know everything to avoid all the pitfalls.
      So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone. (But very shortly, I’ll have my own video platform embedded in my website.)

      2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. If you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I will give you a 5-day deadline for sending all materials, and will not accept anything after that date.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points out the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU, using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 72 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want in order to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and re-balance their options.

    I live in Santiago, Chile and am 61 years old. Recently stopped using Estradiol cream and my doctor now has me using Estoril which is supposed to be a low form of estrogen but I can't seem to find any info on this in your videos or your website. I sent a message to you from the website but so far, no response. I have watched many of your videos and will continue but I am still as confused as ever. I was so happy to try estoril for my hot flashes but now I'm not sure.
    Why is estoril not mentioned?

      Cheri,
      I'm glad you used this forum for your question. It's much more reliable than the website. I check and respond to these comments daily.
      You'll find that there are many many various products with all different names in different countries. So I don't go into each and every one of them individually. I will be covering every category and show representative products for each.
      Here's your answer: Esoril IS estrogen. It's the same thing you were taking before, but a different brand, and may be a lower dose. If you were happy with your Estradiol, you'll probably be just as happy with the Esoril. I hope this erases your confusion.

    Dr. Taylor, how do we know how much dosage of Estrogen we should be on, in order to protect our bone, brain, and heart?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад

      You will get to that if you just keep watching the videos in order. I promise you that I cover everything. But I do so in a very orderly, organized manner. There is nothing will-nilly about the order of these videos. And there shovel be nothing willy-nilly about the order in which you watch them.
      If you want to "cut to the chase" and get everything you need right now just schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME. In a consultation, I give you an overview of the entire education, tailor it all specifically to you, and tell you precisely how to go about getting exactly what you want.
      Here's how a consultation works:

      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got from the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
      I hope to meet you soon!

    I have been using bio-identical for over 5 years now. First thing that went for me (late 40's) was testosterone. My happy little self got depressed and testosterone levels were almost nil. Got that dialed in and felt great. Then went the Progesterone. (continuous bleeding). (age 51) Got that dialed in, then just recently (age 53) the Estrogen collapsed. So taking all 3 and feeling pretty good. So, like your video says, each person is a little different, and the hormones may drop at different intervals for each person. Just love your videos! You are a doll!

    Hello, thank you for the information! I've watched plenty of your videos (recommended by Angie and Dominique). However, I just watched this video and now I'm a little confused and hope you can help me. My doctors are part of one big Kaiser machine and whatever the main insurance book says - goes. They are not willing to even discuss HRT. I have to pay out of pocket and found a hormone specialist who ordered E/P through a compounding pharmacy based on the T.S. Wiley protocol and now I'm not sure if that is FDA approved. Are you saying that I should get bio-identicals through a pharmacy or pharmaceutical compounded prescription from my doctor? Can that be ordered through your program? Can pharmacy patches be ordered through you as well or does that need to come from my doctor?

    I never understood how the creams and lotions of hormones work. How does it even get in your bloodstream? Isn't your skin supposed to act as a barrier? I love your videos and thank you for doing them.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +11

      Susan,
      Your skin is a barrier to many things. But your skin also absorbs many things. And when it does absorb something, it goes from the surface of your skin into the deeper layers of your skin. And, if it's something that is designed to enter your blood stream, it penetrates into the vessels beneath your skin and travels through your blood stream.
      Think about lotion. You rub it into your skin. Your skin absorbs it. But it doesn't penetrate into your blood stream.
      Think about a snake bite or a jellyfish sting. They penetrate into your skin and are absorbed into your blood stream.
      Likewise, these topical hormone creams, gels, sprays, and patches are all designed to penetrate deeply enough to enter your blood stream.
      Does this make sense to you? If not, ask away. I'm here to answer.

    I found you on RUclips a couple weeks ago and have been watching the tutorials every day since. Thank you so much for educating women about this complex subject.
    I want to talk to a doctor about bioidentical hrt now! I am 52 and have all the issues!!! Unfortunately, I’m not finding doctors in my area that are very knowledgeable so I feel like I need to arm myself with information and tell the doctor what I want. My reservation is my history with endometriosis. Will hrt make it return and possibly even become malignant? Or will it be ok as long as I have the right balance of progesterone? Does progesterone even matter to endometriosis since it’s not actually in the uterus? I’m scared to make the wrong decision. I don’t want to keep living as I have been with menopausal symptoms. I don’t want heart disease, Alzheimer’s, or osteoporosis. But I also don’t want endometriosis or cancer from endometriosis. Can you advise?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 лет назад +4

      Woah! You are making some very wrong assumptions.
      Endometriosis has nothing to do with any kind of cancer. It cannot become cancer. Where did you get these ideas?
      Let's start at the beginning:
      Here's what you need to know about endometriosis:
      The word "endometriosis" comes from the word "endometrium."
      You know from my videos that your endometrium is that inner lining in your uterus that you shed each month with your period. EndometrioSIS is when, instead of shedding, and exiting through your vagina like it's supposed to, some of that endometrium goes backwards, up your fallopian tubes, and drips out the end of your fallopian tube.
      It's drops of blood and endometrial tissue, just like the tissue that comes out when you have a period. But, when it drops on tissue inside your pelvis (commonly, your ovaries, bowel, or bladder), it says, "I'll just make this my new home!” And it literally implants in that tissue.
      Then, because you continue to have hormonal cycles, that endometriosis does the very same thing in its new home that it did when it was in your uterus. It builds up ... and bleeds, month after month, after month.
      Now, your body is very smart. And it knows that something is wrong when there's bleeding in the wrong location. So, your body tries to "fix the problem." That area that bleeds because of endometriosis is a raw spot. And your body tries to protect raw spots by covering them up. It's as if it tries to put a bandaid on it.
      So, anything that's nearby (your intestine, your fallopian tube, your bladder, etc.) "covers” the raw spot. But, in so doing, it gets stuck. And when it gets stuck, it forms scar tissue. The name for scar tissue is "adhesions." Adhesions are when two structures are stuck together that shouldn't be.
      So, anything that produces this CYCLIC pattern of hormones that causes your endometrium to build-up and then bleed can worsen endometriosis.
      Typically, the best thing to stop the pattern is CONTINUOUS birth control. In other words, taking hormones in a manner that does not create a cycle. You never have a period. But, you can also take HRT in a CONTINUOUS manner that does not create a cycle.
      So, as long as you don't have the cyclic action of hormones, you should be able to gain the benefits of HRT without aggravating your endometriosis.
      The key to preventing heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's is to take a dosage of estrogen that is adequate for these goals. I want you to watch all my videos IN ORDER. But, when you get to videos 80 - 90, you'll learn what you need to understand about this. Please, please, don't jump ahead. It will only confuse you. These videos are carefully ordered and designed for watching them in order, beginning with the very first one, If you do that, I PROMISE you'll understand everything.
      I love helping you. But, it's like learning to read. First, you have to learn the alphabet. I've ordered these videos so that you get a complete education with no confusion.
      I hope this helps.

    Dr. Taylor, could you please comment on bioidentical in Generic preparations

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 месяца назад

      The word, “bioidentical” means molecules that are identical to the molecules in your body. Your body produces three estrogens: (1) Estrone, (2) Estradiol, and (3) Estriol. And it produces progesterone.
      Theoretically, bioidentical hormones fit better with human hormones. Some people assume that this means they work better, have fewer side effects, or that they are more “natural.” While this may be true in theory, it is not true in reality.
      In reality, some women respond better to bioidentical hormones while others do not.
      A huge misconception among the public is that bioidentical hormones must come from a compounding pharmacy. This is not true. Bioidentical hormones may be compounded or pharmaceutical. The vast majority of pharmaceutical products for hormone replacement are bioidentical.
      It doesn't matter whether your hormones are generic or a particular brand. That's all just marketing and advertising.

    Is it recommended to use the creams, or patches, if I have very sensitive skin and allergy to adhesives? I also suffer from debilitating migraines. They were bad, the week before my periods. My doc was reluctant to prescribe anything higher than the lowest-dose of estrogen birth control. I suffered the whole time I was being careful to not get pregnant. I suffered through the migraines, just to control the PMS symptoms and blood flow. Now, I suffer from migraines and not on birth control anymore (stopped 5 years ago) but was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia/CFS and live in Eastern Canada, where the weather/atmospheric pressure is constantly changing, which doesn't help.

    I am 55 and my mother and my aunt (her sister) had breast cancer--post-menopause, estrogen receptive. My OB tried to still get me to use a compounded estrogen cream but I was told by another internist not to take any HRT bc of my family history. Do you address this in any of your videos? I'm only on number 17! I love your videos!!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +7

      I will absolutely address this! Here's what you need to know. The only relatives that have anything to do with your risk of breast cancer are your maternal, first degree relatives. Who are those? Your mother, your sister, & your daughter. That's it! None of the others influence your risk for breast cancer in any way.
      With your mother's breast cancer, your risk increases for the normal 1 in 7 to 1 in 4. The fact that she had it post-menopause makes your risk even less (meaning more like 1 in 6).
      So, you CAN take estrogen if you wish. It's all a matter of what gives you peace of mind.
      If you get my book, you'll find an entire chapter on breast cancer. We'll get to it eventually in the videos, but not for a long time.

    Just a quick question! I started bio identical four days ago, (troces) I may be spelling that wrong. Anyway, I had a hysterectomy, but I still have my right ovary. I noticed my hormones have a small amount of progesterone. I’m still somewhat unsure, a little scared of side effects.

    When I was younger and went on birth control pills I had severely debilitating migraines. All the doctors blamed this on the estrogen in the pills. They adjusted my doses and tried different ones. Always the same outcome. Even with the "mini-pill". I'm now afraid to even try any form of estrogen product and am suffering greatly with all my symptoms. I just keep reminding myself that these symptoms are so much easier to handle than the migraines that kept me curled in a ball in the dark on the cold bathroom floor in front of the toilet. Help and advice, please!!!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 лет назад +3

      Some women do have migraines related to hormones. Sometimes, the migraines occur at just one time in their cycle, most commonly just before their period (menstrual migraines).
      The mini-pill is all progesterone. There is not a speck of estrogen in it.
      So, maybe you have migraines in response to all hormones.
      But, there are much higher dosages in birth control products than there are in HRT products for menopause.
      66% of women who have had hormonal migraines see improvement in their symptoms at menopause.

    Apparently bioidentical hormone therapy is often custom-compounded treatment that has not been tested for safety and there are concerns that women may be at risk due to this lack of safety and effectiveness testing that other types of prescribed hormone therapy products must undergo. In particular, the progestogens in these products do not guarantee womb lining protection and previously had a report of some women who had womb lining cancer after having bioidentical hormone treatment.
    However, body-identical hormone therapy has been rigorously tested and is identical to the hormones previously produced by your ovaries. This is prescribed treatment that is manufactured by pharmaceutical companies under strict conditions, and the safety profile (and risks) have been well established. So, does that mean body-identical hormones are still the better ones to use?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +3

      Marissa,
      Here are the advantages of removing your ovaries at the time of your hysterectomy, given the fact that you're 56, and your ovaries have already gone out of business:
      (1) You reduce your risk of ovarian cancer by about 90%
      (2) You reduce your risk of breast cancer by about 50%
      (3) Bu removing your uterus (hysterectomy), you negate any need to take progesterone, which means you can take estrogen all by itself
      (4) Taking estrogen all by itself is safer, and reduces your risk of heart attack more than taking estrogen with progesterone
      The are no benefits of leaving your ovaries in place unless you just prefer to keep as many of your parts as possible.
      These are facts, not just my opinion.

    Following my previous comment, what strikes me is that the body only needs progesterone 10 days a month, and estrogens 20 days to replicate the sexual hormones. • @MenopauseTaylor

      The pellet DOES NOT release hormones in a way that mimics your cycle. It releases a constant dosage of hormones continuously for a period of time. When it has released all its hormones, you have to have another one implanted.
      Pellets are great if you like them. And they stick around for 4 - 6 months.

Those years in which cycles are a total mess, hot flashes are constant and you feel like you're about to go nuts and throw yourself out of the window. These in my case lasted 5 years. Actually one because I found some great natural pills made of chasteberry. Agnus vitex castus. I took these and after 2 months I got my period back for another 2 years, until the intervals became longer, first, 3 months, then 6, and my last period at 54 year's old, once that year. I kept a fabulous body shape. These pills had vitamin B6. I quit taking them one year ago due to its price, and because I entered in full menopause. I'm not sure they can regulate my hormones, if there aren't any left to be regulated. I assure that in the previous years they make wonders. The brand is Agna Cast. I'm not sure if they can be found in other countries other than Spain. They are also used by women who wish to get pregnant. It's natural progesterone.

    love your content, would be easier to appreciate what you are sharing if your choice of dress were less whimsical............... it takes away from all the important info. you are presenting. Thanks for doing these videos.

      I dress in these videos the exact way I dress in life. It's my everyday wardrobe. I'm sorry if you don't like it. The only exceptions are when I wear a "costume" like a cow suit for the video on dairy. I don't own a single pair of pants. So, if you want the education, you have to put up with my attire.
