    Menopause Barbie, wow! I really enjoyed learning about these botanical/herbs.I have seen a lot of these in health stores, online recommendations for menopause symptoms, in my books, etc. I particularly enjoyed you breaking each one down and explaining what each one helps with and their side effects as well. What has kind of frightened me about herbal products is when they have a mixture of herbs in the product. Especially the teas for detox or cleansing and they contain specific herbs that should not be taken together. It frightens me and I wonder if it is ok or not. One herbal tea I love how it tastes and when I researched there herbs I was like whaaaat! 😳 On the internet it says not to take x or y together and their they both are together in a delicious tea that I really enjoy. 😬 Such a bummer.
    Thank you for the explanation and the sheet. 😊
    By the way, the outfit you have on looks beautiful on you.

      Sometimes, surgery on the uterus (especially for fibroids) decreases the blood supply to your ovaries. That's why some women have symptoms of menopause after surgery that did not remove their ovaries.
      Isn't it good to know that there are so many options? If you watch these videos in order, you'll learn everything. Lorraine, I'm happy to share what I take. I've tried various things over the years, not because some didn't work, but because I was curious. But, I've settled on using an estrogen vaginal ring called Femring. I'll tell you all about it and all the other pharmaceutical estrogens in tutorial 33. I like the fact that I don't have to do anything but insert it in my vagina every 3 months, and voilá, everything's taken care of. I'm not a bit afraid of estrogen. In fact, I love the stuff ... in any form. I don't believe diamonds are a girl's best friend. I think estrogen is. At least that's true for this girl.
      I've had my uterus removed, so I don't need progesterone (which I'll teach you about shortly, too).
      I also eat a lot of phytoestrogens, primarily because I'm vegan and they provide some of my protein intake.

    Dr. Barbie, is it k to supplement estrogen with any of this supplements or the food items you were talking about in the last video, even though I’m already taking low dose birth control pills ? It really got my attention how the high estrogen diet of people in Japan help them age so well !! PMS symptoms are not as bad as they used to be when I wasn’t taking birth control pills, but every now and then I still feel the rollercoaster 🎢 some days where life is a rainbow 🌈 and other days where I could bite people heads off 😡!

    Menopause Barbie you are usually so good at giving just the facts. Hypothyroid is a common disease post-menopause. I do know Soy interferes with thyroid function & Red Clover does not. I was not comfortable on any of the options except Red Clover. I have serious untreated high blood pressure. But I still don't know why Black Cohosh made me feel yucky & Dong Quai made me too nervous & excitable. So I am looking for information on other effects. Does Black Cohosh affect thyroid function like Soy? What is Dong Quai affecting that causes me to be a hyper fruitcake?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад

      Ann,
      Your facts are not entirely correct. And it would be best to address all these things in a one-on-one consultation. The key is to tailor everything to YOU specifically, and I can't do that here in this comment box. I give you facts, but I want to give you the whole story, too. And I can only do that in a consultation. If you want one, please schedule it at MenopauseTaylor.ME.

    Goodness. You gave complete info about almost everything except the Soy and Red Clover Isoflavones. I have tried it all, including Raw Ovarian Glandular. I found Soy helpful but interferes with my Thyroid condition. I pretty much like Red Clover because it doesn't seem to. I was hoping for more complete info on the Red Clover from this tutorial, it falls more in the herb category and Soy is more a food.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад

      Ann,
      I will be covering sou, Red Clover, and other estrogen sources multiple times with particular topics. That will occur over the years to come. But if you want an education on them specifically, now, you can schedule a one-one one consultation with me.
      And if you've only watched my videos up through this one (# 31) there are many others that follow it which address soy and Red Clover, too. But, the key to my channel is to watch the videos in order because that's the only way you're really going to understand everything,
      If you want the education on these things AND tailoring all the advantages and disadvantages specifically to YOU, a consultation is the way to go ... especially if you can't wait years to get the information you need.
      Other alternatives include getting my book, or the DVD of my seminar, or the seminar as webinars, all of which include this information ... but none to the degree I can cover them in a one-on-one, and none that you can learn as quickly.
      I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
      2) I would confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I would need all these things at least 1 week before your consultation with me.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points put the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are 25 - 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email at least 24 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got form the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).

      Activelle should take care of all your menopausal symptoms, as well as protect you against osteoporosis, heart attack, and Alzheimer's. You may find that if you increase the dose, it takes care of your sleep issues, too.
      Herbal options to help you sleep are Melatonin (take it about 3 hours before bedtime), Hops, Kava Kava, or Passion Flower.

      Yes, Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) can help with some of the symptoms of menopause (especially hot flashes & night sweats). But it's not an estrogen source. And since this video is only about the herbs that have an estrogenic effect, I didn't include it. I'll talk about EPO in the videos on hot flashes & night sweats as a remedy for those specific symptoms (as I will with many other herbs that don't fall into the category of having an actual hormonal effect).

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +2

      I'm so proud of you! So few people know that wild yam actually has estrogen in it rather than progesterone! I'll be covering wild yam (and the misconceptions surrounding it as a progesterone source) in tutorial 37.
      So, here's your answer: Wild yam is a good source of estrogen, but not quite as good as phytoestrogens or isoflavones. BUT you cannot eat wild yams as a food and get enough estrogen to matter. It's not like tofu, which can give you enough estrogen to make a difference. You have to use wild yam as a cream or tablet to get an effect.

    Can you put the table of botanicals and effects on your website as a downloadable document? As someone who is on medications which both lower my blood pressure and "thin" my blood (actually inhibit clotting) I think I would be limited to Isoflavones, Chai Hu Long..., Motherwort, Hops, and Valerian if I wanted to use botanical supplments as an estrogen source. • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад

      Fibroids are irrelevant. There is nothing about fibroids that impairs your ability to do as you please for your menopause management ... although you will find physicians who use them as an excuse to deny you HRT.
      I did a series of 3 videos specifically on fibroids (much later in the series, when you know enough to benefit fro them). And while you should always watch my videos in order, know that they exist.

    In several of your tutorials you make reference to the five to 10-year period in which women need to take estrogen replacement in order to avoid certain disease manifestation. My question is, inside of this 5 to 10 year range, can botanical-herbal estrogen supplements be used effectively for discouraging the promotion of estrogen deficiency related diseases or are the pharmaceutical or bioidentical estrogens better to ward off potential disease in this 5 to 10 year time frame?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 лет назад

      First of all, the "5 - 10 years" is when you can still START taking HRT. It is not a time limit. Unfortunately you'll find many professionals who misinterpret it as a time limit (to your detriment).(Videos 80 - 83)
      Second, NO HERBAL, BOTANICAL, or OVER-THE-COUNTER product can prevent any of the diseases that pertain to the estrogen window. (Video 84). They just aren't strong enough. Videos 25, 26, & 27 explain the differences in strength of pharmaceutical estrogens versus phytoestrogens.
      Third, there is a certain dosage of estrogen necessary to gain any of the benefits of the estrogen window (video 85). If you don't take at least that much, you're missing the opportunity to prevent those disease, even if it alleviates your symptoms.
      This may be completely off-base. I think you have been watching my videos for a long time. So pardon me if this doesn't apply: If you watch these videos in order beginning with the first one, you'll understand everything, I promise. If you jump around, you'll probably draw some very incorrect conclusions and rob yourself of the education you deserve. I'm only saying this because this comment is on video 31, and the estrogen window information isn't until videos 80 - 90. (I'm guessing you watched those and then doubled back to this one to check back since you saw it so long ago the first time?)

    How do you feel about Siberian Rhubarb and DIM supplements? Are they good supplements for menopause?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  Год назад

      Nothing is about how I feel.
      DIM is an acronym for Di-Indolyl-Methane. It is a compound found in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and kale. These vegetables are so healthy precisely because they contain DIM.
      DIM is a beneficial substance, and can possible reduce your risk for certain cancers. But this has not been proven.
      DIM is available as a supplement. But the marketing associated with it promotes it as a product that “supports the body’s estrogen balance,” or “provides support for women for menopause, polycystic ovaries, weight loss, and skincare.” All these claims are completely unfounded. DIM has no special significance for menopause at all. This is merely marketing.
      While DIM is not harmful, as with all supplements, you would be much better off just eating the veggies themselves. Buying them in a bottle is a waste of your money.
      Siberian Rhubarb is but a root. It has no specific benefit for menopause whatsoever.

    Motherwort herb is rich in various anti-inflammatory compounds. These include terpenes, tannins, nitrogen compounds, flavonoids, sterols and triterpenes. The main active compound responsible for the properties of motherwort is hyperoside, which belongs to flavonoids. The minimum content of this flavonoid in a good quality motherwort plant extract should be at least 0.2%.
    Motherwort was once used as a plant that strengthens the heart muscle and blood flow, which is why it was referred to as a longevity plant. It also turns out that motherwort lowers blood pressure, thus promoting the prevention of hypertension, reduces heart muscle disorders and at the same time supports the work of the heart.
    Motherwort herb supplements also have a mild sedative effect, which may be beneficial for people who are highly stressed and want to calm their thoughts in the evening. The healing properties of the motherwort herb also include the alleviation of various types of tension occurring in cardiovascular neuroses and typically nervous (e.g. excessive nervous excitability).
    It is also worth noting that motherwort not only has calming and heart-supporting properties. Organic acids and other active compounds of motherwort are recommended for mild tachycardia, diseases of the nervous system and light cases of angina pectoris.
    Motherwort is also a plant for digestive disorders. It turns out that organic acids and flavonoids have an antispasmodic effect, which relieves diarrhea, abdominal pain, digestive disorders and flatulence.
    The healing properties of motherwort also include increased blood flow through the female reproductive organs, which gives relief in the treatment of painful or irregular periods, and also helps to restore the proper rhythm of the cycle.
    Regards :)

    Estrogen dominance?
    Or we can combine them all without worries?
    Thanksy!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  Год назад

      The whole theory of “estrogen dominance” was made up by Dr. John Lee of the Alternative community in order to get women to blame estrogen for all their gynecologic problems. His goal was to sell progesterone, which he touted as the “safe and beneficial” hormone. Well, his marketing worked. But it’s a complete fallacy. You can’t use progesterone instead of estrogen any more than you could wear a baby’s clothes instead of yours.
      You are “estrogen dominant” because you are female (Mama Bear) and estrogen is YOUR hormone. You are estrogen dominant for half of every menstrual cycle you ever have. And you are estrogen dominant during peri-menopause. But at post-menopause, you are estrogen deficient. And estrogen deficiency is what causes all the problems both short and long term once you reach post-menopause.
      As I taught you in videos 25 through 30, all phytoestrogens (herbal estrogens and foods containing estrogen) are only 1/100 to 1/1000 the strength of your body's estrogen or pharmaceutical estrogen.
      But, if you're doing any 2-month experiments with any kind of HRT or birth control, you cannot confuse the experiment with any of these things during the 2 months.

    Thank you, Dr. Taylor for your gracious giving of your time and knowledge. I have started using Estradiol four months ago. The 0.5 mg did not have any results, and the 1 mg started helping with hot flashes. In the past week, it suddenly stopped helping, but I have been eating a lot of popcorn. I airpop a cup of corn, eat it all, and repeat it three more times, so I have been eating almost four cups popped corn a day. No salt or butter or oil added. Could it cause an Anti-estrogenic effect on my Estradiol. I also eat a lot of steamed broccoli everyday. I do all of this only for enjoyment since I'm home alone all day. I have lots more questions, but I am starting with just one. Thank you so much!!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  6 лет назад

      Maggie,
      You can eat all the popcorn and broccoli you want. They should have no effect on your estradiol.
      I think it's too soon to determine if your estradiol is no longer working. However, there are some estrogen products that do not work as long as they are supposed to. That just has to do with how quickly your body uses the estrogen. For example, some women say their estrogen vaginal ring runs out before the designated 12 weeks. They change it more often.
      Depending on the delivery system for your estradiol (pill, patch, ring, spray, etc.) you may need to adjust the frequency of administration.

    Have you heard of DIM? Any insight on these?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  2 года назад +1

      DIM is Di-Indolyl-Methane. It is the very same thing that is in all cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, Brussel's sprouts). It has absolutely no specific benefit for anything pertaining to menopause. It's just a big marketing scam in that regard.

      @@MenopauseTaylor I love watching your videos and learning. My gyne recommended Estrovera. Why has she not recommended an estrogen patch? My mom was on the patch for 10 years I recently found out. I feel like I’m suffering through these symptoms needlessly!!

    What I meant that please summarize your demonstration. I am a professor in the university and when I talk so much students lose their attention and this what happened in your speech. Make small episodes not more than 10 minutes or may be less but you can Increase the number of episodes but not the duration. Good luck

      I'm sorry. Much of this material does not lend itself well to chopping it up into segments that really belong together. I'll make the videos as short as feasible for the subject matter. But I'll present single concepts as one video.
      Thank you for your feedback. I hope the videos can hold your interest enough to keep watching.

    I love how you explain everything with a laugh. So in other words Dam IF you do and DAM if you don't. Conventional Meds have all this hazard results but they work and Botanical wks maybe slow but they also have health hazard.. Now Iam more confuse than before..

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +2

      I don't mean to confuse you. But the fact is this: Pharmaceutical products give you data and statistics so that you KNOW the risks. Botanical products tell you nothing. It's not that there aren't risks; it's just that they don't do studies and don't have to adhere to regulatory or safety standards. One is not better than the other. It really depends on you. Do you prefer to KNOW the risks, and to weigh them against the benefits? Or do you prefer to know nothing, and to take your chances?
      In general, the botanicals will be much weaker and work less well to alleviate your symptoms. And they WILL NOT prevent heart attack, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer's Disease. Pharmaceuticals will be stronger, carry more risks, but they WILL prevent heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's Disease.
      It's like everything else in life: trade-offs. It's that way with buying versus leasing, with living in a house versus an apartment, with eating junk food or health food. You just have to know yourself to decide which is more comfortable for you.
      And you don't even have to choose. You can use both.
