I'm a week into my meds because of discovering your channel and also reintroduced soy into my diet. Pray I'm on the mend 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤thanku so much for opening my eyes xxx
I’m so grateful I found you! I know I’m behind but I’m watching like 3 videos a day . Boy was I ignorant I consider myself healthy with the exception of the hot flashes which have gotten worse and I’ve just taken herbal supplements but I’m more open to go with a physician gynecologist now thank you.
I have been watching each one in order and I cannot tell you how grateful i am to finally have clear explanations. No doctors would ever have time to explain all these details to me at an appointment. I cannot say thank you enough.
Marie-Josée, You make me so happy. I just love giving you this education, and I think all women deserve to know all of this (in their 20s and 30s). I'll pursue this mission for the rest of my life and help as many women as I can. Thank you so much for your appreciation of my efforts.
Hi, Barbie. You look so pretty today. The balance of hormones is what has been difficult for me, to achieve. Working with my ND on it. Thank you for all of the information you share, you're awesome!
Thank you, Deborah. I'll be giving you several videos on the balance of hormones using different categories of options: dietary vs herbal & botanical vs bioidentical vs synthetic. You'll really enjoy videos 39 - 44. Stay tuned!
You are going to be sooooo glad you got this education. I am just smiling from ear to ear, knowing that you'll have all the tools to make the rest of your life the best of your life. I am so proud of you, my dear.
Dr. Barbie, this helps me as a vegetarian woman in her reproductive years. After avoiding soy for years now because I thought it was effecting my PMS experiences and cramping during my cycle, I can safely add them back as desired. It never really made much of a difference anyway. I also had my daughter avoid soy thinking that it may effect her puberty. ❤️
You see how powerful accurate knowledge can be? Now you aren't responding with fear based on lack of information. I love knowing that you can now make rational, informed decisions about soy.
Thank you sooooo much for all of your hard work in explaining the information you’ve learned and applied! It has really helped me in my menopause journey!👏🏽❤️❤️❤️
Wishy washy effects. True. Or none at all. The right levels vary for every woman in relation to their optimal hormone levels that should be determined by a special blood analysis, not just a common blood test. I have tried phytoestrogens and several herbs. At least I learned in your video that they can hardly increase estrogens level to be dangerous.
You are correct. Some women notice no effect at all from phytoestrogens. They're that weak. A special blood test is entirely optional. Remember, these are hormone levels that are typically fluctuating greatly during peri-menopause. For most women, they're a rollercoaster. If you were to draw your blood levels daily for a month, they'd be all over the place. So don't place too much importance on a blood test. I believe YOU more than I believe the blood test. If you have symptoms, I want you to feel better. I would not deny you something to alleviate your symptoms just because you drew your blood on a day when the labs were "normal."
I have watched so many of your video and I am learning so much. At age of 48 my hormones drives me crazy but the Doc says I am stil ovulating so no hormones for me. Now I know whats is going on with my. Knowledge is the key. Thank you
Interesting, now I know why my levels (lab results) are so low. Well taught. Love your style of teaching , and always enjoy your beautiful hats, clothes, and your smile.
You are so kind. And I am glad that this education is helping you. Please don't hesitate to schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME if you ever want me to tailor all the information specifically to YOU.
Excellent presentation, an absolutely plain way to explain step by step this rather complicated process for our body demands. Thank you, Barbie for all this precious effort and help!
I have a question about eating phytoestrogens if I want to take HRT - Should I avoid eating soy, flax and garbanzos so they won't interfere with the binding of the Estrodiol that my doctor just prescribed? Thank you for all your wonderful information, I discovered your videos a few months back and have watched virtually all of them (some jumping around in the beginning but then went back to watch in order). Since then I have abandoned my fear of soy and HRT, started drinking soy milk a couple of weeks ago and finally was able to get in to my doctor to ask about HRT. She prescribed estradiol patches 0.025mg and micronized progeterone 100mg (she insisted on starting me out on the lowest possible dose!) Since it is such a low dose, I certainly want to get as much benefit out of it as possible and don't want my receptor sites clogged up with weak phytoestrogens, hence my question.
You are such an amazingly great teacher... and such an awesome job. I love your videos so much. Thank you for teaching me all about hormones. I am looking forward to your next lesson.
Oh, Shelley, Your words warm my heart. I am so thrilled and honored to be able to do this for all the great women like yourself who are proactive about their health. I think you'll find that you use something you;ve learned in these videos every single day ... for the rest of your life.
Barbie, once again thank you you are certainly unbiased in your presentation, you would make a great poker player Hee Hee ,, and your puzzle pieces are great, I love your creativity and resourcefulness. Now I need to watch those last two videos again. Hee Hee to catch up with your brains.
Yes, I understand. I love your humor, and no, I would not be a good poker payer. I am so transparent. I can't even lie "innocently." Now see, that's a complete oxymoron to me. How can something that's a lie be innocent?
Can’t even tell you how much I appreciate the service you provide w these videos 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 you’re amazing, beautiful and so so smart and such an excellent teacher! 🙌🏼🥰😍
Wow! A plethora of information. So strange how phytoestrogens seem to be ge/ting a bad rap. Doctors saying phytoestrogens are bad. I feel so blessed to be learning from you. Thank you. I now know why it didn't take long to see results from my estradiol vaginal cream. Who knew? I hear a lot about estrogen dominance as well which I had in 2016. The medical research seems to state to only take estrogen HRT for the shortest amount of time and the lowest dose. They do not explain how criticalmestrogen is to like everything in a female's body and not just menopause. I feel so misinformed by doctors and the internet.
The mass of misinformation is precisely why I deliver this education in a way that all women can use. Just keep watching in order, my dear. You are going to have so many instances of shock and understanding that it will make our head spin.
I was left wanting more Dr. Barbie! Lol. I'm going to watch this one again, our hormones play such a major role in how well, balanced we feel. Thank you again, I'm waiting for next week!
You're such an ardent, loyal viewer, Cindy. I love you! This is such an important area, and I feel so good knowing that you're going to understand everything fully. I'm glad you wanted more. That was my goal. But I didn't want to overwhelm you, either. Tuesday will be here before you know it.
Thank you so much, you are a great educator and advocate for UNDERSTANDING health, not telling people what to do, can you explain how endocrine disrupters affect estrogen levels in the body? What adaptogens? Thank you!
Video 107 was on Xenoestrogens. I think that's the one you're want. If you watch my videos in order, starting with the very first one, you will understand absolutely everything. I give you facts so that you can tailor them to YOU and choose your best options.
I would really really love your thoughts on Premarin vs ‘Bioidentical’ Estradial!! Some Dr likes Premarin more even that’s the minority as it contains a fuller spectrum of estrogen and more ‘natural’
Thank you so much for your education. Only one question: Do we still have enough estrogen receptors during post menopause? Love your Videos, greetings from Munich
Ariane, You sill have the receptors. The problem is that they are all empty once you lose your estrogen. Any bodily function that relied on estrogen starts to deteriorate. The same is true for any hormone deficiency: Insulin, thyroid, etc.
Well, thank you so much. Actually, have the longest arms in the history of man! My fingertips practically touch my knees. In some ways, I'm anatomically incorrect and a lot like an ape. (Smile)
So then phytoestrogens are safe for males to be consumed? And what about cow's colostrum estrogen (for males)? Also, can you combine pharmaceutical and phytoestrogens or better take the strong pharmaceutical estrogen and avoid the phytoestrogens as to not take up the receptors? Or maybe fill yourself up on the pharmaceutical estrogen FIRST and then eat all the yummy phytoestrogens 😋
You are so kind. Thank you. Welcome aboard to "Menopause Taylor University." You'll find that if you start at the very first video (going by the number after each title), you'll understand absolutely everything. And you'll be shocked at what you didn't know, and delighted that you now do know. Each video builds on the last. It's just like school: You had to learn the alphabet before you could read. And nowadays, there are so many overwhelming misconceptions that women mistake as facts ... that you just don't know what you don't know. I respond to all comments here on RUclips daily. So, I will answer all your questions ... but I'll also know if you aren't watching the videos in order. (I'm like your mother. I have eyes in the back of my head!) And if you need me to help you tailor anything to your personal situation, you can schedule a one-on-one consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME any time.
If I’m using pharmaceutical estrogen and if I also consume phytoestrogens, is there a chance phytoestrogens will occupy the spot of an estrogen receptor site.
No. They have to compete for receptor sites. The pharmaceutical estrogen has a 1500 - 11,000 times greater chance of getting the spot. You'll discover this if you just keep watching these videos in order.
The first draft took about six months. Then the real work began ... editing. That took about two years. (This was true for both my menopause book and our love story.)
great lesson! what about estrogen found in animal protein? are they considered phytoestrogens? are they strong like human and pharmaceutical estrogen or weak like phytoestrogens?
They're animal estrogens, so they're strong like human estrogen. We humans are animals (some of us more than others). Good question! You're really thinking.
Menopause Barbie I have a friend whose doctor told her to use progesterone cream and stay away from soy and flaxseed because they have phytoestrogens. BUT she can eat all the meat, eggs and dairy she wants. How does that make sense? It doesn't according to what you just explained in this video. I'm plant based. I told her she was consuming more estrogen than I who eat a couple of tablespoons of flaxseeds a day, tofu once a week and plants in general every day. Can you clarify this? I sent her a couple of videos from Nutrition.org so she could check the facts and science.
You're correct. She is getting higher hormone levels than you are. Maybe that's what she wants. But there's no question as to which hormones are stronger. Animal hormones are stronger than plant hormones.
Menopause Barbie Her doctor was wanting her to lower her estrogen levels and increase her progesterone. Thus the cream. He was telling her to stay away from soy and flaxseed for that reason. When I told her she was consuming more estrogen eating eggs that flax she was stunned. :/ Then I sent her your videos. Nothing like education to help us make some informed decisions. :) Most doctors don't know much about nutrition. Which is a pity since it's one of the foundations for good health.
I agree completely! I think it's a shame that there's so little education on nutrition, exercise, and health. I think my "menopause" videos are really about health. I can assure you that a lot of non-menopausal and non-women are watching. Maybe we'll revolutionize the way people learn about health.
Hey Gabby. Maca is considered to be a "famine food" with many nutrients that do not deteriorate for years when they are stored. It is used in the high Andes, and believed to be a fertility enhancer, although studies do not support that theory. It enhances fertility in women but not men. I'll be covering it.
Before I started HRT I was having hot flashes and night sweats every 10 minutes, as you can imagine it was awful, I did not have quality of life. Even on the hormones I still have what I call hot flushes. I have been on them for about 8 years and I tried coming off them a year ago but as soon as the flashes started coming on every 30 minutes I went back on them. Do you think I will ever be able to come off the hormones?
Hi, I gave mine time after I went off. Your body needs to adjust back to normal . I went through the same withdrawal. Was on them for about 5 years. I changed my diet some. Not sure it was that. Maybe I didn't need that much Soy milk and plant based stuff with estrogen. My hot flashes stopped. I just had lot's of moody upset sad crying times and vag dryness. Sure taking fun out of sex. Gee, can't do it everyday to keep it open or thinning, nor do I want to. Lol. Not sure this will get better.
Labradorite Feldspath I been using coconut oil which was recommended also. Maybe will try oil olive with dropper. Good idea too. I guess I need to do it more often. Hopefully we can more info later on with Barbie. I book her book and she's got a cool name going.. Your German article translated for me in English. Will read it. Thanks
It's impossible to know if you'll ever stop having hot flashes, Robin. And it's not imperative that you stop taking estrogen. Whether or not you can talk them forever is a very individual thing. You may find that you can decrease the dose very slowly over years until your hot flashes don't ruin your life. But don't just stop them cold turkey. It's obvious already that such an abrupt change will not work for you. It's also possible that you'll find a weaker form of estrogen that you can substitute for HRT if you so choose. But, again, there's no absolute rule that says you have to stop taking HRT at some point. Talk with your gynecologist or find a gynecologist that specializes in menopause. Be sure you tailor all your adjustments to YOU personally.
If you watch these videos in order, you will see that I address that. Videos 25 - 30 (in order) will walk you through it. The short answer is "no," and the videos will explain why.@@janedoe7251
It's all about the molecular structure of the product. If it's the same molecular structure as human estrogen, then it's "bioidentical." If it isn't, it's "non-bioidentical." But the big misconception is that "bioidentical" is "better." It may be or it may not be. It all depends on the woman and what HER body prefers. "Bioidentical" has become a buzz marketing term. But your body doesn't care about buzz marketing terms.
You'll learn all about this if you just keep watching all my videos in order. I always address everything at the appropriate time. Videos 25 - 29 are all on phytoestrogens.
No, it can't. What it does is dehydrate you ... and that makes everything in your body more concentrated. But it does not increase the quantity of anything. Most people need to drink more water, not less.
Menopause Barbie Water fasting means you don't eat any food and only drink water. It shouldn't dehydrate you if you are drinking plenty of it which is what someone does when they go on a water fast.
Oops, my stake. I thought you meant restricting your water. If you think about it, the title "water fasting" is somewhat incorrect. Okay, I'll start over: Water fasting will do absolutely nothing for your hormone levels. It will affect your blood chemistry values quite a bit ... in an unfavorable way, though.
I'm not clear on something and I'm hoping that you may be able to help. Is B-iest not a phytoestrogen? Toward the end of this video you compare phytoestrogen to bio-identical or pharma (which can also be bio-identical) so that makes me think that Bi-est (compounded, bio-identical) is not a phytoestrogen. I thought Bi-est was made from wild yam root.
BiEst is a compounded estrogen. It is made by a compounding pharmacy. And, because the compounding industry is completely unregulated, you never know what it consists of. When you were pre-menopausal, you had the three estrogens in the following ratios: Estrone 10% Estradiol 10% Estriol 80% The alternative medicine industry tries to reproduce this combination for post-menopausal hormone replacement even though you no longer need two of the three estrogens. So, instead of estradiol 100%, you will get one of two formulations that are made in huge batches: • Tri-Est contains all three estrogens in the same ratio as your body used to produce: o 10% Estrone, 10% estradiol, and 80% estriol. • Bi-Est contains two of the three estrogens rather than all three: o 0% estrone, 20% estradiol, and 80% estriol. Bi-Est is not capable of preventing heart attack, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer's.
is it a blood test that let's us know where we are in the spectrum of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels. I am going to a doctor real soon and would like to get this subject started.
You can have a blood test to measure each hormone level individually. But it's entirely optional. You can certainly treat your symptoms without getting any testing for hormone levels. If you go to a Naturopath, they'll do the same testing on your saliva. It's easy, but less accurate. If you're post-menopausal, it will give you valuable information. If you're peri-menopausal, none of these tests will tell you much simply because, by definition, your hormones will be a complete rollercoaster, changing daily.
This comment makes no sense. I think there's a typo. If you meant to ask if estradiol is absorbed through your scalp, the answer is "Yes, it is." As such, it does become systemic.
I really like these darker colours on you, like the black top from one of the last tutorials and this dark green/blue one. I think you are a wintertype when it comes to colours. And beautiful hair as always. It is sometimes hard to understand everything because I am german. But I think the estrogens from soy etc. Are not dangerous for anyone, men and boys too?
Thank you for the compliment, Nina. And you are correct, soy is fine for everyone. Think abut the Japanese. They all eat it every day of their lives, and they're the longest-living people on earth. They also age the best.
Thank you so much for this important clarification. I wasn't sure why at certains times of the month phytoestrogens seemed to affect me more (natural estrogen dominance due to perimenopause and phytoestrogens in the diet mean more cycstic acne...boo!). I am curius to know how you'd address the concept of slow estrogen metabolizers (gnentically speaking). If one has snp's that make them slow metabolizers (MTHFR, COMT, etc.) how would they proceed in deciding whether or not HRT is appropriate and if so, at which dosage? Should the prescribing doctor be made aware of this if not already...? In my understanding certain snp's create a higher risk for certain cancers, especially in combination with other snp's...
I'm assuming that you are using SNP as the acronym for Single Nucleotide Polymorphism. I know of no problems with slow metabolism causing problems for HRT use. To be specific about your own particular situation, you would need to see a geneticist who can map the specific genes that are affected. This would be the first step. Then, depending on what you discover form a genetic standpoint, you would take that information to your prescribing doctor so that he could tailor your prescription accordingly. For most women with SNP, there's no need to change the dosage or schedule of HRT.
Hope you may be able to share stuff how to have comfortable sex to keep it from thinning, closing. Even with coconut oil not sure if will be comfortable again.
I definitely will, Sherry. And if you want to jump ahead, Chapter 22 in my book will give you a preview. Despite what most people believe, the vagina is the most problematic aspect of menopause for the majority of women.
Denise Fox I was dreading it too. But I began thinking ... There are certainly other pleasurable things in life. And our sex life is really ruled by our hormones. Think about it. Before puberty began there was no sexual desire. Scientific research has proven that some women on birth control pills lose their sex drive and have other sexual disfunctions. Once your natural hormones begin decreasing and find a new normal balance in menopause we might not want sex as much. There are other ways of showing and receiving love. Just a thought. No sex is not the end of life. :)
This is such a good discussion. I think every one of you makes a good point. And I think it's the very nature of sex typically involving someone else other than ourselves that makes it more of a problem for some women than for others. Face it: humans are the only animals (except apes) that have sex purely for pleasure rather than for reproduction. And human males have sex more for pleasure than for reproduction. So Mother Nature may have made us lose interest and receptivity for sex when we don't need it for reproductive purposes, and that doesn't suit the males of our species.
So if I take estrogen or use estrogel and then eat a lot of soy (a LOT, I am vegan..) will I be shooting myself in the foot as they work against each other 😅
I'm a week into my meds because of discovering your channel and also reintroduced soy into my diet. Pray I'm on the mend 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤thanku so much for opening my eyes xxx

I have eyes in the back of my head!)
And if you need me to help you tailor anything to your personal situation, you can schedule a one-on-one consultation at MenopauseTaylor.ME any time.
Menopause Taylor Thank you!
@@DS-rt5rl It's my pleasure.
you make it so easy to understand...thanks again. Curious..how long did it take you to write your book??
The first draft took about six months. Then the real work began ... editing. That took about two years. (This was true for both my menopause book and our love story.)
What a commitment...you are a blessing to all of us women that just want to be the best that we can be..
Another great video, thanks! xoxk
You are so welcome! Just think, you now know some biochemistry of estrogens!
great lesson! what about estrogen found in animal protein? are they considered phytoestrogens? are they strong like human and pharmaceutical estrogen or weak like phytoestrogens?
Hi Barbie. Can you give some input on Maca and menopause? Does it increase estrogen? Thank you:)
Robin Fairweather My mom went plant based and lost about 16 pounds. she no longer has hot flashes at all. she's 63 and takes no hormones whatsoever.
Thank you for this comment. It just goes to show that there are so many options and you need know what will work for you until you try various things.
Question:
When estrogen levels are tested is the bound estrogen detected, or just unbound estrogen (in the blood, assuming it's a blood test)?
A blood estrogen test gives you your total estrogen, bound and unbound.
Thank you.
Great video! If phytoestrogen molecules bind to estrogen receptors, they can block the human estrogen molecules, right?
...also I'm not talking about "eating" phytoestrogens but taking an herbal extract.
If you watch these videos in order, you will see that I address that. Videos 25 - 30 (in order) will walk you through it.
The short answer is "no," and the videos will explain why.@@janedoe7251
why is it that chemical or pharma based chemicals are similar to human estrogen?
It's all about the molecular structure of the product. If it's the same molecular structure as human estrogen, then it's "bioidentical." If it isn't, it's "non-bioidentical."
But the big misconception is that "bioidentical" is "better."
It may be or it may not be. It all depends on the woman and what HER body prefers.
"Bioidentical" has become a buzz marketing term. But your body doesn't care about buzz marketing terms.
will phytoestrogens occupy the receptor sites and get in the way of the natural and or bioidential estrogen???
You'll learn all about this if you just keep watching all my videos in order. I always address everything at the appropriate time. Videos 25 - 29 are all on phytoestrogens.
I'm just wondering , can water fasting help to increase humane estrogen in our body.
When you were pre-menopausal, you had the three estrogens in the following ratios:
Estrone 10%
Estradiol 10%
Estriol 80%
The alternative medicine industry tries to reproduce this combination for post-menopausal hormone replacement even though you no longer need two of the three estrogens.
So, instead of estradiol 100%, you will get one of two formulations that are made in huge batches:
• Tri-Est contains all three estrogens in the same ratio as your body used to produce:
o 10% Estrone, 10% estradiol, and 80% estriol.
• Bi-Est contains two of the three estrogens rather than all three:
o 0% estrone, 20% estradiol, and 80% estriol.
How long does it take for Pharmaceutical estrogen to take a noticeable affect.
I found them almost immediate. However, HER can be like the contraceptive pill. Some you get on with and some make you physcho! 😯
Does ALfaradiol used on scalp (for hair loss) also go systemic? Thankyou
Menopause Barbie Maybe we're just supposed to stop having sex at some point! !!! 😂
mytreasuredcreations OMG I hope not
Denise Fox I was dreading it too.
😀😀😀
Excellent! Ahah!!
You're having ah-ha moments right and left, aren't you!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🏆🌼💛
So if I take estrogen or use estrogel and then eat a lot of soy (a LOT, I am vegan..) will I be shooting myself in the foot as they work against each other 😅
