      And I agree that this education is one that all women deserve. That is why I provide it here on RUclips, free of charge.
      But education is not very popular. And the topic of menopause is not very popular. As a realist, I know that I will not see a menopause revolution or have millions of viewers in my lifetime. (I'm 65.)

    Thank you so much for these informative videos! I have been suffering from menopausal symptoms for several years, almost a decade. This gave me the ability to guide my doctor on my preferred treatment options. I requested a FemRing and I was prescribed a different type of VagiRing and told it's the same thing. Due to these videos, I knew they were NOT the same thing and let my doctors know this was not an equivalent alternative. Am in peri-meno and having some symptoms, the worst being insomnia and night sweats, which of course lead to brain fog, fatigue and moodiness. The worst! It’s a vicious cycle and I’m finally ready to take action. I have a Mirena iud that I’m very happy with and after watching this video, am leaning toward either an estradiol patch or the Femring. You're teaching it correctly. The assumption that we are not aware or have limited awareness is correct. Uncle Google isn't as smart as everyone thinks.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  4 года назад +1

      My approach is to assume you know nothing at all, Jeanette. That's not because I think women are ignorant, but because you don't know what you don't know. And it's because I would rather tell you too much than too little. Even thought you've heard a word, you don't necessarily know what it means. Plus, there's a very fine line between "ed"(educating) and "ad" (advertising). And we live in a world in which ads are everywhere, but ed is not.
      Thank you so much for appreciating my teaching style. And keep watching to get the education you deserve.

    Barbie, your channel is awesome and hopefully will get women talking more about menopause, especially since it is inevitable! If possible, I would like your opinion. I am 47 and experiencing all of the fun menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats, dry skin, irritability, etc… My periods have been irregular for several years. In the past two years I went 11 months without a period then only one period and now I am 7 months without a period. My doctor recently prescribed birth control (Lomedia 24 FE 1mg/20mcg) which I have never taken before, for what she calls peri-menopause and stated that since I am in very good health and only 47 she is comfortable with me on birth control since it provides a higher dose of estrogen until age 50 and then we will visit hormone therapy. She felt hormone testing to be pointless, but ordered an FSH test per my request. My level 3 years ago was 9 mIU/ml but is now 163.1 mIU/ml, which is a post menopause level. So now I am even more confused on whether or not I should use the birth control or ask for Hormone Therapy. What is your opinion on birth control for treatment of menopause symptoms? I have tried online research and have only found information of treating peri-menopause with birth control. I’ve also learned that using birth control overrides your own estrogen/progesterone, whereas Hormone replacement supplements. If I use birth control now, when I opt to go off of it, will this have cause my ovaries to make even lower amounts of estrogen and other hormones? Does your book cover information regarding birth control for menopause? Thank you for any information you can offer!

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +3

      Katherine,
      My book does cover all of this. Here's your answer: Birth control pills are completely safe for you, and you can probably stay on them until the age of 55.
      While your FSH did indicate post-menopause (at the moment it was drawn), it's a rollercoaster if you're peri-menopausal. So it could bone in the normal range in you draw it again later.
      Birth control pills are higher in dose than hormone replacement therapy (HRT). But if you're still having occasional periods or can still get pregnant, you're much better off on them. Plus, they have some great long-term benefits that women don't seem to know about or acknowledge. (I'll be covering birth control pills in video 42 and HRT in video 43.)
      If you start HRT before you are post-menopausal, you might have bleeding irregularities that confuse everyone. And you can still get pregnant on HRT.
      I think you're in a very enviable position, my dear!

      Katherine Robinson Great question. We sound very alike, no history or current health problems and using OCP’s. I’m thankful for the Dr’s response. We are the same age, assuming you’re about 51-52 now. I was glad to hear they are fine to take until ~55 and they actually have health benefits. I haven’t watched the video she referenced yet, although now I’m excited to find out. What did you decide for treatment? I am considering my options, but am still very undecided. Thank you!!

    Thank you for clearly describing the difference between Estring and Femring. My gyn prescribed Estring, and it had been a while since I'd read which is which, so I thought nothing of it. THEN, I reviewed the prescribing information, and realized she had failed to give me the systemic remedy I'd requested.
    I emailed, asking she correct the prescription. No answer. I got the sense she was intimidated by the Women's Health Initiative study, so much of which has had to be reinterpreted because of poor study design & analysis.
    I need a systemic medication. I just needed to hear another professional, you, articulate + confirm what I've read.
    Oh, and, by the way, I'm a doctor myself. Yes, a veterinarian, not an ob/gyn, but, dang! If your patient has a medical degree and makes a specific request for a specific medicine, don't you respect her intelligence?
    Even lacking a medical degree, if a patient makes a specific request for a specific treatment, do you not respect her intelligence?!!! Sheesh!

      Unfortunately, menopause is THEE most neglected topic on Earth. There is no education whatsoever on it in medical school. And four-year OB/GYN residency programs devote only 1% of the time to menopause.
      It's highly likely that your doctor was completely unaware of the existence of two estradiol vaginal rings for two entirely different purposes.

    Working my way through a lot of these videos. Just started a week ago HRT and I am 60 years old, almost 10 years out of menopause. I would be really curious to know how women do starting at my age, how long do they stay on them, and what are the real benefits that they’ve noticed. I seem to be really concerned about the risks having never been told about the benefits when I went into menopause. Please, I would just love to know what women my age are experiencing starting later on HRT.

    You are the first one to finally tell me what Cenestin was made from !!! Not even the pharmacists could tell me. I took 0.9mg tablet once a day & had no problems & felt good. Now am taking Estradiol 0.5mg, usually twice a day for some relief. I do not have a uterus. I was told Cenestin is no longer produced. If Cenestin is still made, or a substitute, please let me know. Thank you sooooo much for your informative videos. So much appreciated.

      Cenestin in now only available as a generic. Just tell your doctor that you want the generic form of what used to be Cenestin. The way it works with many drugs is that after about 7 years, the generic becomes available. And sometimes, the original brand disappears.
      I'm so glad this helped you. Keep watching! You'll discover dozens of pieces of information like this that help you, no matter how you want to manage your menopause.

Again, thank you so much.

    Wow, I've actually tried 3 of these. I started with the patch right after surgery, then I chose the femme ring at my month post op visit. I ended up going back to the patches because even with insurance, the price of the femme ring was ridiculous since there is no generic. After having horrible symptoms again, we tested some labs and I had zero estrogen and no testosterone either. So, now we're trying Estratest HS, every other day. Otherwise, the cystic acne is a bad side effect. I'm waiting patiently for the femme ring to get a generic because I really did like it.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      Isn't it a pain to have to deal with limitations like insurance approval and generic availability. That's one reason I think it's so great that there are so many options. The Femring sure does make things easy.
      Is your Estratest generic? Solvay stopped making the original Estratest in 2009.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +2

      Yes, the Femring sends estrogen straight through your vaginal skin into your blood stream, bypassing your liver. It has a lower risk of blood clots than estrogen pills.

    Dr. Barbie! On a roll binge watching your videos, with each one I feel more and more empowered. I had my uterus removed due to fibroids at 37, I am 52 now. In the throes of what I would consider heavy, consistent symptoms, 19 of the 22 you taught us, I took estradiol for about a year, stopped taking because I was told the melasma I was getting was caused by it. Doc put me on an SSRI to help with hot flashes- that destroyed my sex drive. Going to see the doctor this week to review my blood work. Questions are 1) does estrogen really cause melasma? 2) Are fibroids still a concern even though I don’t have my uterus?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  5 лет назад +2

      Isabel,
      PLEASE, have a consultation with me BEFORE you do any blood work and BEFORE you see your doctor. You will benefits so much and save yourself all sorts of frustration if you do.
      Estrogen dose cause melasma. And your fibroids are irrelevant if you no longer have your uterus.
      But there are soooooo many more things you need to know BEFORE you do anything at all with your doctor.
      I'm in the business of educating you about everything you need to know and do in order to get exactly what you want for managing your menopause your way. So, here's how a consultation works:
      1) You would schedule a one-on-one consultation at my website, MenopauseTaylor.ME, choosing a time that is convenient for you. I do consultations on Skype, FaceTime. Facebook Messenger, What’s App, and the phone.
      2) I would send you an email to confirm that you are scheduled for the stated time, and invite you to send me as much information about yourself as you please. You can make it brimming with details and tell me about your reproductive life, any gynecologic problems you've had, your symptoms of peri-menopause, and your symptoms of post-menopause. You can include all your fears, concerns, and goals for your menopause management. You may also send me any labs, mammogram results, bone density results, etc. that you would like me to include in designing your protocol. For instance, if you want to adhere to a certain category of management options (herbs or diet & lifestyle, or whatever), you should tell me that. I would need all these things at least 1 week before your consultation with me.
      3) I'll get busy creating a document that gives you all the education you need to understand absolutely everything, points put the pros and cons of each option, and tailors it all to YOU using the information you have provided. The document will be loooooong. Most are over 30 pages.
      4) I will send you the document by email 48 hours before your consultation. You will benefit greatly by reading it in advance. Light bulbs will go off like crazy, and if you're like most women, you'll feel that you've already gotten your money's worth.
      5) During your consultation, we will review the document and address any issues you want to fine tune everything and determine your best options. I'll tell you exactly how to find the right kind of professional, how to have the conversation in order to get what you want, and the nuances of things like guidelines and insurance. I leave nothing unaddressed.
      6) You will go to a professional of your choosing in order to get the actual hormones or whatever you choose to use.
      7) After the first consultation, I'll hold your hand (forever if you want me to). In other words, you'll be able to schedule mini-consultations (15-minute or 30-minute, in addition to full consultations) whenever you need to. I'll keep records of your situation. Most women schedule mini-consultation whenever they go to the doctor and don't understand what he or she said, or why. I translate. I make sense of everything. Most schedule mini-consultation whenever they have a new test and they want me to explain the results. And all schedule mini-consultation whenever their situation changes and they need to re-weigh and balance their options.
      The time you spend with me will make everything about working with any other professional so easy. And they will love the fact that you have an actual education rather than a bunch of misconceptions that you got form the Internet. If your initial hormone regimen is not right, you'll want to consult with me before going to your doctor. I can prepare you for what to expect and what to request.
      So, that's my role. And nobody else on earth does this kind of thing but me. So, I hope you schedule a consultation and let me hold your hand (figuratively).
      I hope to meet you soon!

    Hi Dr, are there any type of blood-tests that can be run to monitor blood clots liver disease when taking the pill form? and the Femring Vaginal Ring has enough estrogen to avoid heart attack, Alzheimer's and Osteoporosis?

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  Год назад +1

      There are tests for your clotting cells and bleeding time. But there is no specific test pertaining to HRT or oral birth control.
      There are 2 Femring dosages:
      The 0.05 is NOT sufficient for preventing the 3 diseases.
      The 0.1 is the LOWEST dosage that can possibly prevent the 3 diseases.
      But you always, always have to tailor everything specifically to YOU if you want to avoid pitfalls.

    I think I’m sad after watching this. I had a hysterectomy in ‘13 followed by an infection which sent me back to the hospital a few weeks later for a second surgery to remove the infection through drainage. In the process, they discovered I’d developed a blood clot, which was treated with drugs for maybe 8 weeks (as I remember it); then I was taken off , and I’ve had no issues since. My doctor said other women that had hysterectomies could also have gotten blood clots but wouldn’t know. This was rather a peculiar case for a blood clot (perhaps?), so I’m wondering if I’m truly ineligible for estrogen as a result. Love your explanation of everything, as always!

    I'm slowly going through your tutorials. I have also printed out your notes and am slowly going through those. In addition, I have an upcoming consultation with you in a few weeks - can't wait!
    We live outside the U.S. and shipping books here, shipping anything actually these days, is a bit of a pain, never mind the fact that customs and duties are very high here. I am the type who prefers reading. Do you think I still need to order your book, or should the tutorials, notes, and consultation be sufficient? I wish that it was available as an e-book. I would be the first to get it!
    Again, I apologize if this question is a bit presumptuous or whatever.
    Thank you again for everything.

    • @MenopauseTaylor

      Please do not apologize for your question. It's valid and warranted.
      For a consultation, I will send you a document that is n the order of 70 ages long. And I'll send it 72 hours before the consultation. If you read it, you'll have the gist of the whole education. The book expounds in it. The videos expound even more. If you watch all my videos in order, you will get a great education, but it will take years for me to publish the entire education, one video a week.
      The book is not good as an e-book. It's the kind of book that you will use for reference every day. My staff is working on making international purchases easier.

      Would my previous history with fibroids preclude me from being a candidate for using the Estring product? I also have a lot of breast cancer in my family history (My mother and both of her sisters, etc.). I have never even considered an estrogen replacement therapy...but it does sound tempting, I also have high blood platelets. Lovely! :-)

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      You can certainly use the Estring. In fact, a family history of breast cancer does not preclude you from using any form of estrogen at all. It's only if YOU YOURSELF had breast cancer that some doctors would withhold estrogen. But there are some that would be fine with giving it to you even then.
      Please keep watching these videos (in order) and get my book. You need to know the facts. So many women have unwarranted fears and deprive themselves of options for completely unfounded reasons. There are so many misconceptions that most women don't know any of the facts.

    I've been watching your newer videos and this one popped up. This older video seems to be refuted by recent videos unless I'm misunderstanding which is definitely possible! In this one you state that one can't take estrogen if they've had estrogen dependent cancer however the newer video about breast cancer research seems to suggest that this wouldn't be a problem as estrogen is not implicated in breast cancer. Can you clarify? Has your opinion changed since this video? That would be understandable after review of research. Just trying to figure this all out. Thanks so much!!

    Hi Dr. Barbie. I've just discovered you through Dominique's channel and
    have been binge-watching your videos. Thank you for the
    great information so far! I am feeling smarter already! I have a couple
    of questions after watching this video ...
    1) My Dr. prescribed Estrace vaginal cream for the pain but my use has
    been sporadic. I will start up again after being more informed on the
    product now. Should I start over and use it every day for a week before
    switching to twice/week or just start up again at 2x/week?
    2) My important question - is the Estrace cream safe for my husband
    during intercourse since the cream is still in the vaginal tract?
    3) As with the Estrace cream, if I apply topical estrogen cream or gel
    on any body parts such as the arms, is it safe for someone to come in
    contact with it? For example, if they touch my arms?
    Thank you in advance! Looking forward to watching the rest of the
    series.

    I switched from bio identical cream and ( progesterone 100 mg and vag cream prn ) to estradiol 2mg about 7 weeks ago and continue progesterone. The estradiol has really helped and don’t need the vag cream anymore. I just had scant ‘shedding’ ‘old blood’ noted when I went to bathroom and have slight uterine cramping. Been post menopause x 4 years, not already pap last month , normal Mamo last month. Is it ‘normal’ for body to ‘adjust ‘ to oral estrogen by starting to bleed a little ? Not bright red, like old blood mixed in discharge... scant .

      You can certainly spot a little with a new hormone regimen. But, the rule is to have all vaginal bleeding during post-menopause evaluated. It will give you peace of mind & it will help you catch any abnormalities early.

    Hello Dr Taylor, Thank you for all that you do! I am educating myself so that I know what to ask for from the doctor. I am most interested in a progesterone only iud in combination with the femring (I do have a uterus). I am confused, though, about dosage. The internet is showing me femring doseage at either .05 or .1, and I will need 1.0 mg daily for disease prevention. Can you help me understand, please? Many thanks to you.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  3 года назад

      It all depends on your goals. If you want to use your HRT to prevent heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's, there are specific minimally-necessary dosages to accomplish that. If you take a dosage lower than that minimal dosage, say bye bye to that goal.
      If you really want to to precisely what you need to get and how to get it, your best course of action is to schedule a consultation with me BEFORE seeing any professional. I will make sure you do not burn your bridges. All the videos in the world cannot tailor the information specifically to YOU. But that is precisely what I do in consultations. The Internet gives you marketing, not education.

  • @Anne-Lene74

    I am a bit confused. I started my menopause at age 35 (now 43). I found out because of infertility issues. Before that I was on birth control. That means that I have never actually had any symptoms of menopause, and was told that I need HRT because of my premature menopause and especially the risk for osteoporoses. Now my gynecologist wanted me to switch from pills to patches. It says on the package of the patches that doses under 50 mikrograms do not help to prevent osteoporoses. My doctor prescribed Estradot 37,5 mikrograms per 24 hours and Provera 10 MG.

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  7 лет назад +1

      You have every right to be confused. Because of your premature menopause, you'll need more estrogen than most women to prevent osteoporosis. And you'll certainly need more estrogen to prevent osteoporosis than to prevent hot flashes. It would be unwise for you to reduce your dose of estrogen to one that does not prevent osteoporosis. Bring this up with your doctor. Request a higher dose of estrogen.
      Understand that there is a lot of fear surrounding estrogen replacement ... by both patients and physicians (but for different reasons). Patients fear estrogen because of all the scare tactics, mis-reporting of research data, and misconceptions. Physicians fear estrogen be use they worry about getting sued by patients who have been primed to fear estrogen. It ends up as a vicious cycle of worry by everyone. People like you who NEED estrogen can have a hard time getting what you need because the general population is in freak-out mode.
      Have a serious conversation with your physician. Sometimes, people (patients as well as physicians) lose sight of what's important. I'm really proud of you for paying attention to the dosages. Keep up your good work. I'm here to help you advocate for yourself.

So my doctor told me to use a wild yam gel, but I switched it to capsules. I’m up for my implant this coming week, I’ll make sure to ask my dr. to prescribe some sort of pharmaceutical grade estrogen! ❤

    • @MenopauseTaylor
      @MenopauseTaylor  Год назад +1

      Pellets consist of bioidentical testosterone, with or without estrogen. If they contain both, there is a lot of testosterone and very little estrogen. They are promoted and inserted mostly by alternative providers. The hormones are compounded, which means they are not tested or regulated by the FDA.
      The good thing about pellets is that they are long-term, lasting 4 - 6 months. That's good if you love them.
      The bad thing about pellets is that they are long-term, lasting 4 - 6 months. That's bad if you hate them.
      The testosterone is the component that most women hate. Testosterone is the male hormone. It causes acne, whiskers, male-pattern balding, weight gain, and aggression.
      These pellets DO NOT prevent any of the diseases due to estrogen deficiency (heart attack, osteoporosis, or Alzheimer’s Disease).
