Nikon P1000 - Maximum Zoom Range Test (93 KM / 57 Miles)

  • There is no doubt that the #Nikon #P1000 has one of the greatest Zoom lens on the market but even with a #MegaZoom lens capable of zooming across small cities there is a limit to the quality of the image and video returned.
Lets start having a look at quality over quantity, the quality of the image and video when compared to the amount of distance covered. This week we check out the max zoom range on the camera, while the Moon and various planets prove the camera has some serious range lets take a look at things a little closer to home.
Subject: Mt Wellington to Great Barrier Island (Mount Hobson)
    Height: 135M to 627M
Distance: Aprox 93KM / 57 Miles (Yes actually, work it out yourself if you don’t believe me :P )
Using the elevation of both Mountains this mega zoom takes us from peak to peak. While the upper ridge line can be made out in the video there is clear lack of detail showing that at this distance we start to hit the maximum distance/quality ratio with the P1000.
While we can still make out the subject due to its size the quality of the image and video diminishes sharply. Partially because of the amount of light reaching the camera at this distance and also the amount crap in the atmosphere.

      1. The moon is a bigger object, so even the little details you see in the moon are relatively huge.
      2. Earth's atmosphere which contains a lot of pollution nowadays is densest near the land and gets less dense as we go "out" of the earth's crust. So when you look horizontally at the distance, it is indeed different than looking upwards per se to clarity.
      3. The moon reflects more light than that mountain, so it's easier to see the details and thus makes it less blurred.
      Just some scientific observations!

Important: The air is not a perfectly transparent medium. When there is pollution, like in most big cities, it is worse.
Even in a day with small humidity expect a drift in color. Also the air is moving. Do not blame only the camera when the target is at 93 km.

that sounds good and all but due to atmospheric refraction (bending of light along with scattering), it is physically impossible to see very far
This does not apply to empty space (vacuum) because air isn't there to cause refraction
HOWEVER, THERE IS A TRICK. refraction is inversely proportionally to wavelength. hmmmmmmmmmmmm,
maybe the island will appear clearly if an infrared camera and lens is used, not very sure though

@@SuperZoomVideos at 57 miles there should be 657m of curvature. You shouldn’t be able to see the top of the mountain (627m) let alone the shoreline. Re-do it and zoom in on the shore. Maybe you can’t see the sand, but it seems very close. Regardless, it seems pretty clear you can see too far. If you disagree you can prove me wrong, figure out your elevation and the elevation of the object you see across the water, then calculate the curve.

Now isn't that amazing! Despite the fact that we are living on a globe with a 6.400 km radius - and due to this an object almost 100 km away should be about 800 meters beneath the horizon - but not only you can see mt hobson lurking over the horizon you can really see all of great barrier island! Shouldn't there be like an 800 meter high obstacle between you and the mountain called "part of the globe on wich we live" thru wich we should not be able to see thru? Yes, you are at 135 meters yourself but still, on a globe with 6.400 km radius you should not be able to take those shots!

    • @darkvantage2019
      @darkvantage2019 2 года назад

...you should analyze what you just wrote mate. With that calculation the water is the only thing making the horizon, you still can see the mountain because of its size compared to the angle of the curvature, making the difference (between the horizon and the start of the land) almost imperceptible. You should also count the height that the camera is.

All optical phenomenons that make you assume a curved surface are perspective. the P1000 reveals perfectly that we do not live on a ball. and there is even more proof, a lot of more experiments are available. research it. the earths surface is not curved, it's flat. cheers

@@backyardproductions9589 "question everything" i agree with you on that.
But instead of chasing for calculations ( and somehow managing to distort it ) and "proofs" without any scientific thesis trying to prove an outdated model, my questions began with already proven thesis and calculations ( those being the fundamental stuff that you probably learned in highschool ), and the consequence of those calculations being the fundamental proof of *that* being *it* .
THAT IS without considerating the MASSIVE amount of images... but i digress.
no matter how much we try you will not gather the proof as...
      well...
      Proof.
Dude, instead of believing in something and trying to prove it by disproving another material, and based on that create a whole different thesis, start with the *2+2*
      Sorry, that also is... somehow...
      a lie, right?
Also sorry dude, but if you really think that i "defend" some organization based only on the common belief- i mean- *common sense* and use it as the principal matter to prove that im wrong, know that if someone at Samsung, or at Ford, or some national brand here like Brastemp said that 2+2 is 4, that DOES NOT MEAN ITS WRONG.
Idk if you're american or not, because those guys really live inside a bubble but stop with that alienated belief of "organizations and companies are fighting agains my freedom!!!1!1! And because of it everything, even the most fundamental stuff is wrong!!!! why? because of yes, source? I made it UP based on this random stuff someone wrote two millenia ago".
Because you guys pray on the belief of freedom, but live inside a bubble of made up stuff without any proof and worse, made up freedom.
Want freedom? God already gave you, but you know what else He also gave you? A mind.
