Make a few photographs of the scene you are working, and go back to your desk or place where you can sit and look at the pictures. I even used my phone for soldering a fix on a prototype, because the wire was too thin for my eyes to see.

Currently, the only solution is a bigger camera bump or a retractable lens. I nearly always have a Panasonic Zs camera in my jacket.

I stopped using Canon and Nikon. My highest was the Powershot 5IS, as that was a replacement for the faulty 1IS (CMOS manufacturing fault). I soon discovered that phones started to make better pictures than that powershot, more stable and with better low light conditions. In fact for me it was the first steady picture I could take. With the camera's I had to ask my wife as she has a steady hand.
I still bought one cheap pentax for in the water. Soon to be replaced with IP67 rated phones in a Ghostek Nautical.
Later I borrowed one 10x optical zoom sony handheld. That was indeed better quality in the bright sun. But once it turned dark, my Note 9 outperformed that camera easily.
I take a lot of pictures, and I mean a lot. The phone interface is easy, so it is easily from pic to zoom in.
So for me, my phone is the only camera I use for professional reasons. Sharp pictures is a good reason. Not nice pictures. The objects I photograph are network equipment and stuff like that.
A powerful Zoom camera would only be a hobby thing for me. If I need beautiful pictures, I will just hire someone that has a camera like that and knows how to use it ;-). And don't forget the lighting in the bedroom etc... Eh, I mean outside...

when using a professional camera for night photographie, you need to use manual mode instead of auto mode, even phones have that option too and you could've got better results for booth, but still you'll get way better quality with a professional camera because of the lens not just the big sensor

While shooting the moon, samsung shows details only past 30x because even at 10x zoom it is still using 3x lens and cropping in as 10x is extremely dark. It is only when you get to 30x zoom it switches to 10x lens so it shows details only then. You can easily check that out will pro mode or from expert raw which will forcefully use 10x lens. zooming while taking video is also another way to know how it works just pull down the exposure if you don't want the moon to look like a street lamp. Moon shots with 100x is a different story as at 100x it uses AI sharpening because at 100x digital zoom, the moon looks blurry.

The Moon looks like a blob at lower zoom ranges due to exposure metering. With manual exposure you can get the correct exposure and see a proper representation. Of course it won't have details still on the 3x on a phone, but also won't be a streetlight.

The ultras do in fact take real moon photos, it's "enhanced" by ai, and not a filter. The scene optimizer mode in the default camera app has ai trained specifically for around 30 different scenes to optimize photos and touch them up to look better. The moon is one of these. It is indeed a real image of the moon, just enhanced by ai to look sharper. The difference being the ai knows what it has to do so that's how you can get epic moon shots. If you disable the scene optimizer, it won't take as good of a shot.

In doing this comparison of the different zooms, I noticed that the Samsung as a smartphone is better at 5x and 10x optical zoom in daytime than the Nikon, which is still a bridge camera. Is it possible for a smartphone to pass a bridge (which is of semi-professional photo-video class) ? A notable drawback of the Nikon Coolpix P1000 is the rather weak 1/2.3-inch sensor, which is not 1-inch like, for example, other bridge cameras (Panasonic FZ2000 or Sony RX10IV), which they surpass the Nikon P1000 in this aspect, even though it has the best optical (125x) and digital zoom of all cameras on the market (up to 250x, respectively, the maximum focal length of 6000mm). Further: starting with the Samsung's 20x hybrid and 30x digital...100x zooms, it's only here that the difference is noticeable, with the Nikon managing to outdo the Samsung in detail (even at 250x), but, not the Panasonic or Sony, which, at these approaches, have a more stable image, while Nikon shakes (the explanation I showed above, its weaker sensor). Interestingly, at night, on the 5x, 10x or hybrid 20x optical zooms of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, the Nikon manages to surpass the Samsung, having better brightness (it helps 125x optical and hybrid zoom). As for the Moon, comparing the Nikon P1000 with the Panasonic FZ2000 (which I have it), at the maximum focal length range (where the Nikon has the upper hand, 6000mm vs. 2880mm), its craters are seen in greater detail on the Nikon, while at Panasonic its image is more stable, not so shaky, thanks to the 1 inch sensor it has and as such its pictures are of better quality. The Sony RX10IV has the same advantage over the Nikon Coolpix P1000, with a focal length of up to 3600mm, where the image of the Moon is as stable as possible and, also, its pictures are of better quality, thus proving its superior bridge class. In this race, of course, Samsung, as a smartphone, excludes itself from the competition, having an inconclusive digital zoom, the Moon is seen almost completely blurred. 🤗📷✨

Nikon had the Raw photo option. So the output file would be even greater than straight out of camera JPGs. Meaning the gap would be even greater between the two cameras.

Actually I checked by hidding each lens on S21 ultra :
    - up to 9,9 x = main
    - 10x = tele 1 (the little next to laser sensor) 10x doesn't work if tele 1 hidden (black screen)
    - 10,1x to 100X = tele 2 (no difference if tele 1 hidden)
BUT if tele 1 is hidden, 10x (or really 10,1x ? ) is possible with tele 2 with apparently no difference compared to 10x tele 1.
I will check more because it would mean the tele 1 is useless and not combined with tele 2.

Phone cameras are great and I would rather rely on my phone when travelling than have to use a DSLR. People get too caught up in megapixels and zooms. There's no comparison though, the bigger sensor is always superior. Dynamic range, noise. You are retaining detail in shadows and highlights a small sensor will never do. This is why video is still best on a big sensor with lower megapixel count - more light hitting a bigger pixel. If you like to take photos for social media stick with your phone. If you like taking amazing photos buy an apsc/full frame mirrorless.

Nide comparison! Since I have that phone, my bridge camera (Sony RX10 III) stays in its bag almost all of the time.
One this should be strictly noted: The moon shot filter of the Galaxy S22 indeed does adjust the exposure settings of the camera in order to be able to make the moon visible. You can do that with the manual settings when you play around with the ISO and exposure time values in Pro mode. So the auto filter does NOT add artificial moon image or something else as the video intends to explain (also visible from the comparison images that the moon is in the same positions and phase)!

To be fair the 30x wasn't too far off. But it would make a difference in the final photo size. Are all these comparisons on the same size file?
Also use pro mode on the Samsung to get rid of that "moon filter"
You usually have to adjust settings to get a perfect shot. I can even get decent moon pics on my s20
At 10x zoom its using a different sensor too. Once you zoom in far enough it switches or blends the cameras/sensors together

You couldn't see moon properly with 10x because the phone is switching to zoom lens only with big zoom levels. Try any random photo at night with 10x zoom - the phone will still use its main camera (because sensor is way bigger). So that moon that you saw with 10x zoom is the moon from main camera.

Have you ever heard about overexposure?
At x10 the photo is overexposed because most of it is black and at x30 it is exposed correctly.
Try manual controls at x10 and you'll a good image.
Anyway the image at x30 is real.

*sigh*… time to call out Versus: there is no superimposed moon at 6:18. It’s the real moon. The craters and shadows line up. It’s heavily processed, sure, but there’s no fake photo there. That said, nice video otherwise.

    • @versus_com
      @versus_com  2 года назад

Perhaps fake wasn't the right word - but with the AI playing around with the footage so much that it doesn't look real, a lot of big tech sites and channels on RUclips also say it's not a real photo.

    • @SprintKeyz
      @SprintKeyz 2 года назад

@@versus_com that's fair; I guess it depends what you'd consider a 'fake' photo. I agree the AI very heavily processes the photo, wayyy more than it does with other photos, and might even be recognizing what it thinks are craters and giving them more distinct outlines by playing around with the brightness and color values of those pixels. However, with computational photography being such a big part of smartphone cameras these days, I wouldn't necessarily consider that photo fake (that is my opinion though).

the AI faked moon is pretty bad... but it makes sense, the S22 is NEVER EVER capable of doing what at least 1-2kg of camera + lens are capable of.
The Nikon P1000 is even a fair comparison. If i would throw in my R7 and RF 800 F11... 1280mm without crop and anywhere 1800mm in 4k crop video with really nice and sharp images, as much the air allows you.
But to be fair to the P1000: Its in bright sunlight (or the moon) also capable of getting that much range that you lose detail because of heat haze which we cant avoid anyways.

im sorry - but the P1000 is a good camera, but its a consumer level point and shoot camera. Yea, it is expensive for a consumer, but in no way is it considered a "Professional" camera. It looks like one but that's where the similarities end. Of course the main reason for the differences is the sensor size and the glass. A cell phone is constrained by both factors. You cant fit a large sensor on a cell phone and a huge amount of glass. so of course is going. be worse.
