I love how Greg is a perfect example of non toxic masculinity, and instills the values of non toxic masculinity in his son, Steven. It shows that you don't have to be a jerk to be masculine. You can be supportive instead of competitive and still be masculine. Greg is one of the best dads in media, and Steven is lucky to have him. I also love all the masculine energy Steg puts out
Sometimes, the most manly and brave thing to do is being yourself despite all. But, again, that also applies to feminity.
In the end, you could can be called a manly man being supportive and emotionally stable (not those messes of wrecking nerves who think that wearing pink socks makes you less of a man) and called the most feminine lady even if you're a tomboy who has their priorities straight (which priorities, you ask? Self respect and control over their own lives).
Anything else, they are just adjectives added after.
I think Steg is super buff because Steven and Greg idolize each other. So the fusion is a combo/visualization of how each views the other. My son is a super hero! + my dad is a rock star! = Steg.
also steven has literal super strength and his dad has "dad strength"

Kirsten Laimbeer or it could be both. The fact that their fusion was so effortless even with Stevens dwindling powers show they have a LOT of love and respect for eachother.

This made me think how Steven needs to remember he is also half Greg, not just Rose/Pink Diamond.
So the fusion is 75% Greg (Human) and 25% Pink diamond.
And to think Steven fusing with Greg proves once and for all that Steven can fuse with other humans besides Connie, in fact on some level seeing Steg come into existence kinda reminds me of the episode "We Need To Talk" because you know Greg tried to fuse with Rose but he couldn't, and since Greg fused with Steven in a weird way it's as close to fusing with Rose as Greg will ever get, not only that, now that Greg has fused with Steven, he now knows what fusiing with a gem is like.
The Commenter Dragon Like the video said, since Steven is a hybrid who’s also kind of a reincarnation of Rose, he actually kind of DID manage to fuse with rose in the end.
Greg is amazing! When he cut off his hair, he was saying that he didn't want Steven to have to make decisions like that. He wasn't going to be used as a bargaining chip. He cares so much about Steven! He also had a great role in Steven Universe Save the Light and gets to go on this adventure!!!
Greg totally pulled a Sakura Haruno.
He cut off his hair to symbolize that he has more agency now, and he’s more confident. That’s what I think.
Another interesting thing to point out as well, while the whole situation of Steven’s birth being comparable to the mom dying during childbirth thing is a thing, most people do t talk about how a good portion of fathers that go through the lose of their wife in childbirth tend to give their child up for adoption(due to the amount of pain they feel after losing the love of their life, and seeing the survivor of that incident being a very painful reminder), Greg keeping Steven even after he saw the love of his life disappear right in front of him is just a little extra hint to showing just how strong Greg truly is.
Greg Universe is one of the best father figures in cartoon history, supportive but not controlling, kind but not a total push over, level headed but not inactive and best of all he want's to be in his son's life. He's criminally underrated in how much of a great father he is to his kid.
I really enjoyed this episode! I was hoping you'd cover non-gem characters.
I really like how Marty and Greg are polar opposites. Like, one of my favorite Greg lines is "Marty, women are people." Marty gets with Vidalia but then never supports her when she has Sour Cream, and then only connects with Sour Cream when he can benefit from it. He also treats music (and everything else) as a money opportunity. In the meantime, Greg nurtures Steven and remains part of his life. He also appreciates music for its own sake and as a way to connect with people, like you said.
*SU:F spoiler* I wonder if Steven's throwing things into lion's mane (like his mom's painting) is sort of like Greg's hoarding. He wants to keep it around, but he doesn't want to think about it.
Honestly yeah the whole family have a hoarding problem it wouldn't surprise me if Steven is a hoarder too. But in a way it's like a useful kind of hoarding like they want to keep the memories that come with the things rather than the things themselves.
Greg: "Marty, we gotta respect women!"

That comment about Steg being the ultimate ally reinforces a feeling I had that the best fusions are made of multiple kinds of love - Steg is the relation Steven and Greg have, sure, but Steg first appeared for *PEARL*. Steven loves her very much and she and Greg have gotten close.
Save Steven as the last one. We’re going to talk A LOT about it after everything is over. I’m counting on you

i think pearl has some sort of "trauma" when it comes to shape shift. (spoiler warning?) she had to shift into rose and then fake pink diamonds shattering so that's why she hasn't done it since future when she turned into steven.

When you mentioned the symbolism of cutting hair, you should've also included the scene from Avatar the Last Airbender where Zuko and Iroh cut their hair to symbolize their shift away from the fire nation.
In a comic. It was shown that the beach house connected to the temple was built by the gems. Greg offered to help but the gems didn’t need it. He and Steven lived in the van until it was done. Sugillite and Pearl built it together.

I love the simplicity of the name Steg; but holy shit, *Mr. Multiverse* is badass and absolutely fitting! As far as I’m concerned, his full name is Mr. Steg Multiverse!

I’m still amazed by his permanent tan lines. We rarely, if not never, see him wear pants and a full shirt, yet he still has those exact same tan lines.

My favourite thing is how Greg is such a good and responsible father, despite being a bit irresponsible in his younger years. He really goes out of his way to be a good role model for Steven
What if Steg/Stevonnie had a human Counterpart?
Since we knew when gems fuse, they become something that exists, such as garnet with her Homeworld counterparts like Hessonite, Pyrope, and Demantoid.
Steg's counterpart is definitely Elvis Presley, but Stevonnie's for me is unknown.
I can't forgive them for not calling him Mr. Multiverse, it was perfect.

While at face value Greg would be see as a deadbeat loser father, but what I see he's a wonderful person who loves his son more than anything in the world. He truly had the biggest heart of the series and has a laid back surfer dude yet wise mentor figure for Steven. Though why he didn't press the Gems to send his son to school and get an education is beyond me, but at least he wasn't like Marty who just abandoned his lover and kid like nothing. Also agreed on the Steg hair cut giving me some Elvis vibes. What can I say, this porkchop is certainly perfect.

What's kind of cool to think about is that the fusions are their own things, like maybe Opal loves Steg (In that way), but when they're unfused it's more of family love. Just something to think about. :3

Its been a while since this video was released and as most know by now Steg was only ever in the Movie which is unfortunate but fulfills one of Gregs Long time dreams to fuse with Rose! Even if it was steven it was still Rose (partly) Greg Universe is my all time fav character and under rated super hero of Steven Universe His love, Compassion, and understanding mixed with the fact that he is a Widowed Father with a constant reminder of his Truest love gets to my heart and gives me the most respect for this character.
The emotion controlling his powers is likely a mixture between Steven’s powers being based on that for a long time
And still being controlled by it connected with how gregsa in touch with his emotions and how music is a way to express yourself and how they are deeply connected through music
I'm sure anyone who actually watched the show knows already that Yellow Tail is Onion's dad. It's not rlly a theory

When it comes to hair, I remember reading on an author forum about how a ruler would cut their hair and send it to the opposition to signify they were going to war. The longer the hair, the longer they kept the peace and you done goofed by making them angry.
It was kind of funny, because they mentioned rulers who were basically bald because they declare war so much.

I hate to break it to you but! Yellow Tail is onions father. Marty is Sour creams father! If you look at the timeline, in order for Marty to be onions dad, they would have had to have met AFTER steven was born, not before. Also also! Sour cream and Marty both have the same long face, skin tone, and hair color and texture, while onion looks more like Vidalia.
