Just shows how toxic this relationship real is. I mean if fusions like Garent & Topaz are the ideal healthy relationship, then fusions like Malachite & Sugilite are the ideal unhealthy relationships. Something tells me Bluebird is gonna end up on the worst end of the spectrum and a potential Turquoise (Lapis/Peridot fusion) is gonna be on the best end of it. Then we have the middle grounds: Opal, Sardonax, and possibly Abalone (Bismuth/Peral). The ones that show that we're still trying to work things out and what we mean to eachother.

In the episode where jasper fuses with the corrupt gem and fights smokey quartz, when she unfuses she watches the corrupt gem run and says 'nobody I fuse with ever wants to stay' I feel like that's when she truly begins to realize that she's toxic and abusive. After she gets healed in s.u. future she isolates herself not just because she 'lost' but I think because she doesn't want to be toxic to any gems anymore.

Although we all agree that Jasper and Lapis’ relationship was toxic and abusive it’s often contested who exactly was the abuser. It definitely falls to a more complicated note with Lapis openly stating that she enjoyed taking her anger out on her but Jasper being the one to pressure her into it in the first place. Although many people feel like it represents these relationships poorly for its mixed messages I think it actually better represents them because although one sided abuse does happen abusive relationships can also be a back and forth of two toxic individuals just taking everything out on one another. I do think they handled Lapis’ part poorly solely for how the characters treated Lapis after. Like she’s solely the victim when we’ve seen that it’s more complicated than that.
Andii Neushul I agree with your post. I think both sides were abusive but the show really pushes the idea that Lapis is an innocent victim even though she admits flat out to taking her anger out on Jasper. I wish they had taken more time to develop both characters tbh. Maybe have had Stevens faith in Lapis tested when he heard her admit to it.
I agree, some people think that Lapis was the only one being abused even when she said that she enjoyed taking her anger out on Jasper then acts as if she’s purely the victim. Not saying Jasper is innocent at all
Yeah but when you think about what lapis has been through, you kind of have to give her credit that she didn't turn out worse. She was able to stay forcefully fused to Malachite for months, which was absolutely exhausting for her as seen in Steven's nightmare. And she was also able to reject Blue Diamond's power. But she was only able to do both because she had to adapt to dealing with her mind being in a dark place for thousands of years from being in solitary confinement inside the mirror. And let's not mention how Steven gaslit her into accepting Peridot (an accomplice to her abuser) as a roommate before she moved on. I mean, only Steven can require time to heal from trauma, right?
@@valentai_777 Maybe the fact that they're glaring at the camera with menacing music that plays over what would've been the lines "No one to fear; No one to fight"
I was talking to a friend about Jasper and how I never wanted her to be redeemed. While I love a good redemption arch, Jasper was a character that was best as a villain. I was so relieved when she wasn't redeemed in Future. She's a perfect representation that not everyone is redeemable. Some people refuse to change or don't see a need or reason to change. Jasper is just that. We all have that one bad guy that we love as the bad guy and Jasper is that character for me.
Sugar just has zero idea on what to do with Jasper. They shoved her under the rug hoping to have people forget her but she's too much of a big character to be ignored. She's my favorite and it sucks to see her get ZERO development or character or even remembrance.
What I think is interesting is that Jasper is sort of the odd one out of the quartz soldiers, not just physically but also in terms of personality. Once Amethyst gets to meet the other quartz soldiers on Homeworld, both amethysts and jaspers, all of them are actually very friendly and carefree, just like her, helping her and her friends escape. So, even if Jasper herself (the main character) causes a lot of trouble for the Crystal Gems and acts as a big bully for most of the series, most of the jaspers actually shown in the show do exhibit many of the traits you mentioned assiociated with real world jasper, being laid-back and caring.
Well, she "got" one... It wasn't that great though. This is the main reason why I want more content in the universe: watching it would be a joy, but there's so much yet to be explored and could be so great.
For Jasper when she got corrupted she showed that she loved her diamond who was pink diamond and an extreme loyalty to her telling everyone that she hated rose because pink diamond was shattered but her redemption might be because she now knows rose was pink and Steven is from pink
I have a theory, The reason why fusions vary in height so much depends on how complicated their relationship is. Malachite, duh Opal, Duh Garnet gets along and understands her components just fine. Alexandrite. Sardonyx, Pearl is insecure Sugalite, Amethyst is insecure
I feel the few only times I saw a feeling of care or “love” or possibly a soft side from jasper was when she first got corrupted and screamed pink diamond before she fully turned. It was just something about her rage mixed with pain and hysteria in her voice as she was ranting to Steven about the death and disappearance of her diamond pink diamond. It just makes “rose’s” betrayal of killing pink diamond the seemingly more painful to jasper and her voice. Small detail in this scene but I thought it was so well done.
Notice how all of Pink’s gems seem predisposed towards fusion in a way not seen by the others? Jasper is no exception, and is every bit as visceral and passionate- Also, the corruption is like a Gem STD
About that "toxic in water" thing, I mean Jasper and Lapis are toxic to each other and are held together by this and the stuff you mentioned for a while in water.
Purple Person oh yea definitely. There’s a valid chance that if Lapis refused, it would’ve given the Crystal Gems an opportunity to attack and poof her as she might’ve argued/lashed out against Lapis. It also might’ve given a chance for her *not* to see fusion as a valid way to fight and thus create a different set of dominos in the series. In that moment I think we see Lapis consider her options. Fight, fuse, run. It’s worth noting her experience trapped on the ship *definitely* messed her up enough to think that being trapped might’ve been the best outcome compared to say, the wrath from the Diamonds she thought she’d be under. She wasn’t exactly in the clearest mindset after two sets of traumas. It’s possible she really thought the best outcome was to be stuck on earth, and she decided she was gonna take Jasper down with her. Now while that might seem noble as Jasper is painted as a clear enemy to everyone one and thus taking her down with Lapis was perceived as a martyr move- it shows that Lapis was treated so bad she started to have toxic ideas herself. She even stated how part of her liked the power over Jasper she had! Anyways my rambles are coming to how Malachite is a good show of how the toxicity in a relationship can and eventually will come from both parties and it’s a shame it kinda got lost. I think the scene on the boat was made specifically to give more address to it which is nice. I blame production restriction and issues for most of the SU pacing and development issues the show has, but here I really think the writers went in with good ideas and intention and forgot to fully flesh character development and pacing things out. But they try to flesh it out later so I give kudos to that.

Great video, Jasper is my main favorite antagonist and female character in the whole Steven Universe series. In fact, one of my first impressions that I had when I saw her for first time, was the fact that she was the archetypal type of villain. Big, imposing, strong, commanding. Her build, her position, her voice, and mannerisms. Not also that but what I felt like empathizing with her, is how she talks a lot about her morals and her principles. To everyone she gives mini-speeches about fusion, about fighting, about Rose, about the war. She has a strong personal code and I’m willing to tell that she’s hardest on herself when it comes to breaking those rules. Also another characteristic, which I empathize with her, is how she doesn’t like depending on others, especially if it’s their fault for the place that she’s put in. And also due to Jasper’s analytical behavior she tends to worry too much about the future and her actions in the past; because of this she is very critical about herself and the actions of others. The last weakness that Jasper has is that she doesn’t know when to stop working. She has been fighting her whole life and she doesn’t know when it’s time to take a break or when it’s time to stop.
My cat’s name is Jasper. Named her after the character. She’s really loyal, and wants to be wherever I am. She even stays by my side, the entire time, when I’m depressed, anxious, or when my back is torturing me. I’m pretty much her diamond 😹😹😹😹❤️ She’s a ginger tabby, and I got her, as a feral
After Jasper's defeat by garnet and fusion/separation with lapis, she seemed lost. By wanting to start her own army with corrupted gem monsters but really hit her lowest point from defusing with the snow monster gem. Jasper had tremendous issues that weren't really resolved or anything in Steven universe future. But learned to respect Steven when he ended up defeating her in a one on one fight, even pledging her loyalty to him.
How about the diamonds? Fun fact? Both real daimonds and pearls have reps for destruction; pearls because if you take it from the oyster? The oyster dies. Daimonds mined from the ground have a history of being minded by slave labor/garilla war(?) but lab made diamonds & pearls are a dime a dozen!
I have to be honest here. The first time I saw Jasper in Steven Universe I didn´t like her. But since a couple of months I started to love her character somehow. She can be awesome in some sort of ways. So yeah, totally one of my favorit Gems in Steven Universe.
"Jasper saw the true side of the Empire and became a parody of it. A joke. I heard a joke once. A gem visits a psychiatrists, begs for help, saying life was never the same after her Diamond forsook her. Psychiatrist says, "Cheer up and find yourself a Spinel. They provide endless entertainment and not make things seem so bleek." Suddenly this gem bursts into tears. "But doctor.", she goes, "I'm a Spinel."
I think it would’ve been really cool if you talked about sources of inspiration Rebecca Sugar took for the series and Jasper/Lapis specifically. Like, I’ve heard that RS specifically cited Revolutionary Girl Utena as inspiring a lot of art motifs and character relations, especially for Jasper/Lapis.
Jasper being the opposite of what her gem means still kind of makes sense. All that negative hate frustration is not just expelled into the void the gemstone absorbs those negative energies.
I wonder what would happen if Jasper and Steven attempted to fuse, what would that fusion look like? And I'm talking about the later Jasper, the one that still has some corruption scars
I enjoyed the video, im learning so much about my favorite characters from my favorite show 10/10 Oh can you do Bismuth next, she is the only main gem we haven't seen yet... and the diamonds, but do her
Jasper has such a addiction with being the stronger gem that she doesn't realise when its dangerous for her like when she got corrupted from rising with snowflake jasper
Hoi im temmie A lot of people seem to forget that Lapis was the one holding Jasper down against her will and taking her anger out on her. I feel like because Lapis is pretty and feminine, that she immediately is looked at as the victim, where as Jasper, being so big and beefy is immediately assumed to be the abuser. It’s a scary way to think. It’s like saying a man can’t be abused by a woman.
@@JadeDolphin22 ans that's in the end why I live this show so much: It's bringing in some twists. I started to think this because of what Lapis said about having power over Jasper...
Everyone says Lapis is the victim, and Jasper is the abuser, but nobody ever looks to see what that relationship would have done to Jasper as well, since Lapis was just as cruel to Jasper. In fact, Lapis took out thousands of years of pain on Jasper, who might not have had anything to do with it. In the end, both were bad for each other. But Lapis wasn't the clean cut victim who did nothing wrong. That's why a lot of people question their feelings toward Lapis. Because she was presented as a victim, but didn't give the same vibes. She may be a victim, but in that regard, so is Jasper. Jasper was very power craving, and did hurt Lapis. But it seems that, in their Fusion, They never even tried to balance it. It seemed that Lapis just instantly chained Jasper and refused any control. Jasper didn't have a choice to do anything in that fusion. I'm not saying Jasper isn't guilty. I'm saying Lapis is just as guilty. Jasper wasn't making Lapis stay fused. Lapis made Jasper stay fused.
Thank you for saying that. I love Lapis a lot, but she's just as bad as Jasper when it comes to Malechite. One thing I'll disagree though is that Jasper never wanted to unfuse: she wanted to stay fused but in control, that's why she doesn't unfuse when she finally takes the control in the fight vs Alexandrite.
Lapis is not innocent she was worse that jasper in that relationship because she controlled jasper in it not jasper controlling lapis or anything of the such
I cried when Jasper was healed in the fountain and Amethyst went to comfort her.

My legit only question is why can't she use a warp pad? Is it because she fears into running into the crystal gem base?
This channel is sooo good! And so slept on Dx keep it up yall rock
Jasper was the writers masculine punching-bag
I always see Jasper more of Guy 😂🥺❤️
I always saw her as a very buff woman. 🤷♀️ Technically they're all non-binary.
I love how the captions are so accurate, i actually had them on LOL
Hey could you do a bismuth I want to the inspiration for the gem
she did one
I think it would’ve been really cool if you talked about sources of inspiration Rebecca Sugar took for the series and Jasper/Lapis specifically. Like, I’ve heard that RS specifically cited Revolutionary Girl Utena as inspiring a lot of art motifs and character relations, especially for Jasper/Lapis.
"And headstrong"
Yea,Literally
agh it's a plane that crash helmet!!!
You: I hope in Steven Universe Future we see a redemption arc for Jasper
Me: I hate you too
The scars from coruptancy are still there in the final episode
Who's your favorite character, and what's your favorite real world gem ( more than one is allowed )
Jasper being the opposite of what her gem means still kind of makes sense. All that negative hate frustration is not just expelled into the void the gemstone absorbs those negative energies.
Love to see any of the Diamonds and Spinel
*insert Modern Warfare 2 meme*
Ramirez! save Jasper and make her redeem...
*AND DEFEND THE BURGER TOWN!*
Fun fact did you know that garnet is more toxic then malachite in water
Oof
I don't feel like she really is now Ruby and Sapphire had problems before but I think they worked through them.
But she’s a really. Good. Swimmer.
and yet she's a "good swimmer"
I wonder what would happen if Jasper and Steven attempted to fuse, what would that fusion look like? And I'm talking about the later Jasper, the one that still has some corruption scars
raditz's hair, nappa's bulk and vegeta's arrogance and some of his pride. Jasper is basically a dragon ball character no wonder she's my favorite
You've got such a good charismatic personality, you're a great fit for your job
The aphrodisiac aspect might have translated into the show as Jasper's deasperate search for a fusion partner
cramer floro ooooo great theory!!!
1:33 when she said headstrong I thought it made sense that jasper has a war helmet as her weapon
I enjoyed the video, im learning so much about my favorite characters from my favorite show 10/10
Oh can you do Bismuth next, she is the only main gem we haven't seen yet... and the diamonds, but do her
I would like to see a symbolism explained on one of the diamonds!
You should make a sequel video based of Jasper's role in future.
Didn’t she feel ashamed because she could not protect pink diamond from her “shattering”
Jasper has such a addiction with being the stronger gem that she doesn't realise when its dangerous for her like when she got corrupted from rising with snowflake jasper
I love our big buff Cheeto puff
Lapis was the abuser in the fusion though.
@@JadeDolphin22 ans that's in the end why I live this show so much:
It's bringing in some twists.
I started to think this because of what Lapis said about having power over Jasper...
Yep! Check out my Lapis video!
Jasper is by far my favorite character
You forgot that jasper is actually just a big buff Cheeto puff that’s really angry
Jasper’s my favorite character next to Garnet! Awesome video PLEASE do Ruby next please!
Jade The Killer we talk about Ruby in the Garnet video 😊👍🏻
Oh... Whoops I’ll go watch that now sorry 😅
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR RESEARCH INFO?!
4:39 I agree, do not worry.
I would like to go over the Off-color gems and the Diamonds next!
Rose quartz/Pink Diamond and her sympolism
@@GamerGhostRider Yea. A good quote is "The pain of being the victim can make the victim become the abuser. Revenge is an awful thing."
@@karmageddon9047 Very well said.
Diamonds next? My birthstone is diamond
I have a piece of red Jasper and it is one of my favourite gems
Lapis is not innocent she was worse that jasper in that relationship because she controlled jasper in it not jasper controlling lapis or anything of the such
Tbh I’m not a fan of jaspers design, but that’s what I said about garnet and now she is my favourite, well second to spinel.
Pls go over Pumpkin’s symbolism, I’d really appreciate it
Tom Fabian Rest In Peace Pumpkin
Miguel Avendano :(
