Wow. How did I go from "Never heard of it" to "Gotta have it" in just 13 minutes and 19 seconds? Great video Peter, and this is a lovely, lovely watch.
What a great piece of eye candy. This is a watch that hits well above its price tag. Beautifully understated. I wasn't too sure of the dial color, until it hit the sun. Just impressive color through the crystal. The theme of a vintage watch is very well executed here. Great review. Thanks
Late last year Peter I bought the Nivada Super Antarctic model number 32024A. It has all indices rather than numerals at the 12, 3, 6 & 9. Apparently there have been issues with the Soprod PO24 movement, but as yet & hopefully I won’t have any issues!🙏🏻😎 Lovely looking tribute watch.
Too much empty space on the dial, unfortunately. They need to beef up the markers and numerals, whilst also shrinking down the case size by a couple mm.
Looks wonderful but I'm unsure about buying a new "aged" watch. For me you have to live, experience and earn the ageing. It's a bit like buying a new pair of jeans with holes worn in them. Love your videos by the way.
Think of it as a Restomod car. The nice thing is--- it's new and works perfectly. You get the high performance of the modern engine and the look of vintage. It's a '63 Split Window Corvette with the technology and finish 2024! For an every day watch that looks upscale, but also appropriate in more casual settings-- how can you beat the price and value?
Sheer class,I noticed the stained hands immediately and was happy to see it,thinking outside the box.It just adds a quirkiness and character to it,credit to the design team.I’m not a bracelet fan,but ot does look good on one,but particularly beautiful and characterful on the leather, imagine how that will age, like a good pair of Irish brogues. This will be on the wish list(bit long at this stage).10/10 for me

A whole lot of polish for a weathered, tropical dial in my opinion. Cool watch though, but I am wondering if a highly polished beads of rice bracelet was the right choice.
I wondered the same thing throughout the week, however the dial in sunlight is mesmerising and supersedes any distracting shine coming off that bracelet
I'm a sucker for watches with 3, 6 and 9 arabic numerals and rest with markers. Makes such a nice, clean looking dial. Too bad I can't afford an Explorer with such layout but maybe a vintage Seamaster or a smaller brand like this.
idk about this one. having a field watch dial with fake patina lume is fine. but when you put it in a watch case with so many high polished surfaces, they just don't look coherent together. i have the same problem with hamilton murph. the designers need to decide whether they are making a sports watch or a dress watch first.

As always, great review Peter. What an absolute stunner of a piece. That dial, on the leather, is gonna be stuck in my head all day. Thanks Mate, keep up the good work.
Great watch, but too expensive.. I earn 850 Euros per month...And marketing and branding is horrible.. You can ask regular person about nivada, and they never heard of it.. unlike rolex, omega, hamilton.. Everybody know that brands.. Shame because they are good company..
Hi Douglas, I’m grappling with the two dial variants. I’m paring down my collection to 2-3 watches, and I’ve always wanted an Explorer 1 style watch that’s not simply a homage (Railmaster and Monta triumph being considerations). This one checks so many boxes for far less money. Wondering whether you think the tropic will work equally well as a daily piece or if the dial is too interesting to be a subtle, daily piece.
@@rpatankar2600 Not sure yet. Just ordered it today. Only in stock as they build them? The black dial is what i have on the forstner bracelet. Really nice, if it was 40 or 42mm,, ir would find a way into my watch box. If Tudor can make different size Rangers, then so should Nivada. There are people out there with larger wrists that are often neglected in this style of watch.
Lovely watch. Thank you for the review! I was also born in 1967 and a Rolex from that year is certainly well out of my price range too. I did pick up a Seiko from our birth year though. FYI Seikos manufactured in that year can be easily identified by their serial numbers which all start with the number 7, and have a total of seven digits. Seiko switched to seven digits in the sixties before switching back to six digits. The first digit of the serial number denotes the last digit of the year it was manufactured, and the second digit denotes the month it was produced. So for example a 7 digit Seiko serial number that starts with 71 was manufactured in January of 1967. If you were born in the 1960's, Seiko makes it easy to find a watch that was produced in both the month AND year that you were born. Cheers!
Coordinate the watch with a pair of high fashion, worn, pre-faded jeans and....maybe a silk Chambray shirt (Japanese reproduction). Get an aged pair of Alden Indies, and buy a trilby (a fedora will do). Wear the watch on a stressed leather strap. You are not odd, you're hip. mmm, tropical.....everything has aged so beautifully! As nice as it is, the bracelet seems ill suited...but I love the watch.
I wanted to share my recent experience with purchasing the Nivada 3-6-9 watch. I ordered the watch 8 days ago and the status of the product was listed as "in stock." However, despite the watch being advertised as available, it has not yet been shipped. When I contacted customer care to inquire about the delay, I was met with a rude and unhelpful response. I get it, the residue on hands and indices is supposed to create a vintage feel. But is it necessary to extend that to a flimsy looking clap with a pressed outer shell and pressed inner elements? I don't know. But after all this watch is surprisingly affordable for a Swiss made watch from a reputable brand which a rich history.

Very nice! However, my Smiths has taken up the space for a 369 dial in my box. If this was 36, I would consider it. I feel like the smaller size would fit the patina/vintage feel more.

Wow, that dial looks spectacular. I've been eyeing a Nivada for a while and this review might just push me over the edge. The only thing holding me back is the Soprod movement, which has some issues. If it was a Miyota or a genuine ETA, I'd have pulled the trigger already.
at 750$ its a pass looks too much like an explorer .. rather go for a preowned SARB Alpinist / or new alpinist inspired prospex lot more pedigree and unique design
Beautiful watch! I have a black dial with the yellow indices coming right now. Bought it on a forstner beads of rice. Excited to see this one. The tropical was out of stock when I bought the other. Maybe some day the tropical on leather for the vintage look. Think I would distress the leather to match that spectacular dial!
Thanks for this review, you were so right about this watch. I got one two weeks back and must say this watch looks really gorgeous. Also, I really like the way you review watches. Would be great if you could review the Depthmaster series from Nivada.
So to me this is the same as buying a RELIC'd guitar or ripped jeans... It might be cool for the "hipsters" (as just about everything that looks vintage these days) but it's not for me. But it's a bonus for the manufacturer because they can leave dust on the dial and hands and say that's on purpose. Good thinking. It just needs a beat up case so the finishing there doesn't have to be perfect either lol... madness!
Superbe video ! Really nice looking watch! In some shots in your video, we can see a dark brown bracelet which makes the watch look better for my taste. Where is that strap coming from? It’s not on the Nivada website….
The two aftermarket straps used in the video were from Strapatelier Tan coloured strap: www.strapatelier.com/products/point-stitched-leather-watch-strap Chocolate brown strap: www.strapatelier.com/products/slim-horween-chromexcel®-leather-watch-strap?variant=40090960920748
Great looking watch, subtle but beautiful. I don't know if you have ever heard of them, but Geckota watches in the UK make a similar watch in 36mm called the "Airstream" generation 2. You should definitely check it out.
I really enjoy your reviews and this is fantastic. A beautiful watch. And aged very nicely. My reservation is SOPROD. Not that it’s a bad movement but I haven’t heard of it and so I get a little weary. However I previously turned up my nose at sellita and I now own two! Great review as always thank you Peter
Wow, this watch looks quality. Not sure it’s purely the watch or also your great video quality. IMO that lume is a bit too much but the colour of the dial? Beautiful!
Peter, I really wish you could review their other model: the Antartic Spider. A true blast from the past, with that crazy and yet very classy dial. Thanks for this great video! Cheers.
Fantastic review Pete. I have ordered mine last week and it is expected for mid-February. I will put my coffee-brown alligator leather strap on this beauty and I am pretty confident it will look stunning !
In one of my latest flea market crawls I found a Vintage Sandoz With REAL PATINATION! Wonerfully even And earned by real aging! for sixty Dollars! The look is very similar to your Replica! You can 😂 keep your Six hundred and Ninety Dollars!
Watch is signed Swiss made. Nivada apologized for the confusion, but ignored my subsequent emails. Just as well. Watch is average. Should have gone with a Murph or Seiko Alpinest
A bit overpriced comparing to Seiko or other swiss, specially considering the cheap looking clasp. Very nice hipnotic looking anyway. I think my biggest issue would be the lug to lug because I´m 16,5cm- 6,5 inch wrist
Good gracious. There's too much retro in this industry. Imagine if these companies would be producing retro-styled watches back then instead of trying to innovate. This specific one, is fauxtina to the max. For me, if I'd be able to, I'd buy contemporary designs and technology. Unfortunately most are really expensive.
I think I’m going to buy this watch. It will be the perfect companion for my Explorer 😂 I hope it looks ok on my 15,5cm wrist. Thank you for another great video

Wish they made it with a plexiglass crystal, the way saphire is mounted always results in those shadows on the dial
I’m actually going to buy this one yes the faux patina, YES the artificial Tropical dial, AND YEA to the thickness
Wow, that dial looks spectacular. I've been eyeing a Nivada for a while and this review might just push me over the edge. The only thing holding me back is the Soprod movement, which has some issues. If it was a Miyota or a genuine ETA, I'd have pulled the trigger already.
Um no. That movement has no issues. If it did, then everybody would be getting a refund.
If only they made these in 36mm, I'd buy it in a heart beat. Excellent looking watch nevertheless, not to mention Solid value.
at 750$ its a pass looks too much like an explorer .. rather go for a preowned SARB Alpinist / or new alpinist inspired prospex lot more pedigree and unique design
It just needs a beat up case so the finishing there doesn't have to be perfect either lol... madness!
You should see what Laco does with their aged watches.
@@harkonen1000000 I did see it, it's even worse when you want a watch that looks EXACTLY like a watch worn by the Nazi pilots... lol
Ive gained a few scratches this already, so its half way there...haha
Superbe video ! Really nice looking watch! In some shots in your video, we can see a dark brown bracelet which makes the watch look better for my taste. Where is that strap coming from? It’s not on the Nivada website….
The two aftermarket straps used in the video were from Strapatelier
Tan coloured strap: www.strapatelier.com/products/point-stitched-leather-watch-strap
Chocolate brown strap: www.strapatelier.com/products/slim-horween-chromexcel®-leather-watch-strap?variant=40090960920748
Excellent bracelet, case and dial but the hand designs slightly put me off.
Great video, thanks for the review.
Hell yah, looks great/better on leather.
Love it. Definitely your channel from all other channels I've watched, has the closest taste as mine.
Great looking watch, subtle but beautiful. I don't know if you have ever heard of them, but Geckota watches in the UK make a similar watch in 36mm called the "Airstream" generation 2. You should definitely check it out.
Thanks Matthew, I have heard of them..I'll check it out!
Beautiful!
Interesting piece, but can't help but think that the dial looks a bit too big.
stunning
I don't know much about Nivada of today, but the brand would occasionally come up when I did vintage watch searches on Ebay.
Initially I wanted an Explorer, than I wanted a Black Bay 36, than a Sinn 556, now I want this 👌👌👌
😊
Peter, I really wish you could review their other model: the Antartic Spider. A true blast from the past, with that crazy and yet very classy dial. Thanks for this great video! Cheers.
I can only imagine the laughs at Nivada when a customer calls to say “hey my fake aged vintage watch has signs of age on the dial!! Is this okay?” 😂🙄
Does it tick all the boxes? yes it does.
Wow, what nice collections they have! I will have to consider them on a future purchase.
Just got the brown dial no aged lume version with white lume. Absolutely fantastic in person!
I wish it came in a 41mm-42mm.
Watch is signed Swiss made. Nivada apologized for the confusion, but ignored my subsequent emails. Just as well. Watch is average. Should have gone with a Murph or Seiko Alpinest
Thanks Peter.
I really like Nivada watches and this seems to be another winner.👍
A bit overpriced comparing to Seiko or other swiss, specially considering the cheap looking clasp. Very nice hipnotic looking anyway. I think my biggest issue would be the lug to lug because I´m 16,5cm- 6,5 inch wrist
Good gracious. There's too much retro in this industry. Imagine if these companies would be producing retro-styled watches back then instead of trying to innovate. This specific one, is fauxtina to the max. For me, if I'd be able to, I'd buy contemporary designs and technology. Unfortunately most are really expensive.
Unfortunately it's a company with abysmal, appalling customer service. Based on my experience, caveat emptor.
I think I’m going to buy this watch. It will be the perfect companion for my Explorer 😂 I hope it looks ok on my 15,5cm wrist.
Thank you for another great video
