When fusing cards, you can tap Y or Triangle to open your list of cards to select the target card. Saves you time with having to equip the card first to then feed it
Was going to say this myself, hopefully Devilleon reads this and hearts it or something so that this comment can easily be found
There is one important tip: Put different cards on your reserve squads. Fill every empty slot with a different card and you will get a huge boost to your HP (as a bonus). And if you don't use some style or cards in this style, then put different cards there too.The more HP each trooper has, the more HP you get. Same cards will not give you extra HP.
Glad someone mentioned this. I have more bonus hp than normal hp because of this.

so glad someone mentioned this. I never figured it out and had to ask on reddit since i had the opposite problem seeing so many people with a huge orange health bar and mine was so smol. I finally decided to look into it while i'd been grinding out styles and getting near the end of the battle dungeons and losing half my health so easily lmao
Reserve squat = the other style's you're not fighting in?
And do the cooldowns/charge up, continue when getting in another style?
Or only when using it?

Ichiban and rikiya just *destroys* enemies, like in the latter half of the shinsegumi raids, I used those two after taking off the armor of the enemies in the room and would clear out anyone in the radius, it's insane damage. And for bosses, ichiban and nishitani is just as broken, even against amon

Nishitani exists just to use as a corporal. Even in empty spaces like 95% of the swords he conjures just gets caught on the "ceiling"
However he has a unique Status effect, bleed which Builds extremely quickly. Its quite good for miniboss Monsters (like the triple/quadruple/quintuple generals)
There a really good card you get for helping a sumo wrestler reach first rank as a friendship side quest. His corporal ability heals you overtime saving you the trouble of using healing item during battle dungeons and his trooper healing is just as good as makoto's.

This was a Good Guide. I was curious about the Trooper Merge and you answered all the questions I had.
Also, little addition from me: the instructors if you seemingly use two of them at the same time during fusion, then they also upgrade the trooper ability. Tried that with both the Ichiban and Shinada Card and their trooper ability increased.
Something people miss with wild dance is that the heavy attack serves as a guard break. It really comes in handy
Please Devilleon make a tierlist on the troopers cards that would be really appreciated (yes I know getting all of the epic rarity is hassle)

Troopers that desert you can be found in masked form sitting in Mukurogai, not in a random encounter. From what I've observed, they don't seem to always spawn, and they're not always in the same spot. Just check occasionally and you'll find them... Though I'd recommend just being careful and not losing them cause it's a pain in the ass (I only had it happen to me once before I knew about the mechanic, and I had to track down 3 troopers).
Thank God an actual video on Trooper cards. Even if you only showed the best cards I have a better idea of which vanilla and DLC cards to use for fun. Thanks.
Only thing I would complain about trooper cards is why Leon doesn't have 1, from the amount of love & dedication for this franchise 😂

The deserters apperared to me in Mukurogai, in two different spots, close to the guy with name tattoos and on second floor. No fights required.

Another tip, you can have duplicates of troopers in your squad. For example, you can have 2 ichibans so you can use his trooper ability after the 1st one finishes.

I like the passive Trooper cards (Healing, attack boost and so on) but the special attack ones are ones i never use on my playthrough
The strongest corporal in the game is Shinada, the strongest trooper ability is Ichiban followed by Shinada.
Sousuke Komaki card is also good free card that you can get early in the game. The passive increases damage for unreasonable amount, but reduce defense. The active fills up heat by 3. Basically a combination of nerfed shinada and saeko cards.
And there is also an early game card (I forget the name) that has an active that increase damage unreasonably for limited time. Combine the 2 card and time it perfectly with heat action against bosses can meld their hp
3:03 yeah funny thing about that. One day I was just mindlessly feeding my epics troopers but then realized his trooper ability leveled up for some reason. I didn’t have a copy or anything but… it still leveled up.
Apparently you don’t NEED the exact same card to level their ability up. Just need a card with the same ability name. Like if a card you wanna max’s ability is “essence of lightning spear” then instead of rolling forver ever to get another copy with the ability. You can use rares who also have the ability instead.
i enjoy the trooper card system despite it being a little complex. Kinda throws me back to games like Dynasty Warriors and Kessen.
I'd love them to do another samurai game that's full on Dynasty Warriors combat where you recruit actual guards instead of cards and have full on giant wars.
The sumo guy that you feed constantly gives you ridiculous health Regen (90 every couple of seconds) when you have two other swordmen accompany him. This Regen happens at the lowest corporal level too. Haven't found time to increase that level but 90 HP every couple of seconds is a LOT.
Shinada + ichiban + wild dancer = win game
I add Saeko to make sure I have maxed out heat for a full spin to win
Sadly, you can't do the spin attack when time is slowed anymore.
This but with a gun that has change of heart seals on it and armor pierce.

Having more passive abilities such as heals or damage boost really helps mitigate the grind for popping over 1000 for the diligence records. Good old 100% grind.......

A note for anybody who doesn't know, the DLC that allows you to get these legendary troopers only works once. I lost a savefile, started a new game, and couldn't use most of the DLC on a new save.
I have so much money from chicken racing, time to use it all on cards!
I cant remember where I read it in game but it said deserters appear in mukurogai, 1 trooper will appear when you beat a single battle dungeon, but you have to go get them for any more to appear which is fucking tedious and makes me not want to engage with the shitty system. Also they will usually just be right in front of you when you come in via the guy at the closed door, you just have to talk to them, no need to fight.

How grindy is this game ? If thats your question then let me answer it

For making the best weapons and armour you need around 3000 to 3500 ryo
In another words you need 150000 tags or around 1000 silver hammer or platinum plates
Or you need to grind the chicken race for 5-6 hours (assuming a race takes about a minute and placing bets takes about a minute so 2minutes in total and you earn about 30000tags per race)
These numbers are the worse case scenario because when you sell the silver hammer you accumulate dharma points which in turn can be used to exchange for platinum plates thus reducing the number of chicken races needed to be done
Phew... That's done
Now then let me get back to chicken racing
I have a common trooper named Nagata Chiyokichi whose trooper ability is called Poison Mist Ball. It instantly strips the armor off any enemies it hits and then starts chipping away at their health. His cooldown is relatively quick and it combos insanely well with a trooper that has the skill 'Essence of the Void' that sucks all nearby enemies into one spot for a few seconds. I use them both and bam, no more armor for all those annoying dungeon enemies. Does anyone have a higher rarity version of a trooper with that skill? If there is then the cooldown could go even quicker. EDIT: This may be dependent on your equipped weapon. I noticed when I switch from my armor busting sword to the exp boosting sword it doesn't destroy their armor instantly.

One question , will you or can you make a guide of smithing and how it works. I saw your video on crafting weapons and i got the idea but the hammer and rarity of them and what weapons rarity should i go for the seals etc is kinda confusing ngl . This is the first yakuza/judgment game the im struggling hard to understand a simple task and the guides that i saw dont help at all cuz they do not show visual examples.

I wished Seong Hui's card was something less niche. It's the only legendary trooper that isn't always useful so you just sit waiting to activate it when enemies are feared.
If you finish all the wanted men missions, you'll get a trooper card outside the shinsengumi HQ that scares all enemies. Pairs really nicely with her card in the gunman style.
Devilleon, PLEASE, make a guide on the bandit leader fight and the arena gunmen fights. I keep getting chain stunned by special ammo.
For bandit leader fight, go get the free download legendary trooper called Rahul Kohli. His ability is the laser beam which can 1 shot the leader since he can't be knock down therefore he will be eating those hit. For arena, craft any fire or poison sword and then just switch to wild dancer style and spam square or X
Third method: get the digital deluxe edition, and get all the legendary cards for free at the beginning of the game.
That gets you some of them, you'll still miss ones like Shinada.
I'm still hanging out and grinding in chapter 7, the 5 Ryo gacha not even unlocked yet. Should I just proceed as to not waste trooper exp since currently I'm just using random characters?
I am currently using the hungry sumo card as my base for sworsman and dancer, + 2 other blade guys. His passive is to heal you all the time with an effect increased for every swordsman is the squad. So he gave me 90 HP back every second (even when i'm not wounded), so I pretty much can't die now, and i don't use any healing items anymore (outside of very specific occasion, like a figth versus a master). There is a guy who do the same for gunner with gunsman as a plus, I don't know if there is one for brawler but maybe (i'm still in chapter 9, and only have like 90 differents cards), but even with legendary character, it's seem hard to top that.....
It would work very well on Ishin difficulty, especially if you stack the Blessing seal.
There is a spearman that can do that at the same healing rate so there's your one to work with brawler
Thinking of trying out Rikiya's card now, I hear it can shred the final dungeon boss for faster grinds. WHY IS DRAGON FANGS HARDER TO COME BY THAN RAINBOW FABRICS????? This grind is killing me, bois.

Oh, so these cards were a thing in OG Ishin but only for some sort of dungeon minigame?
Then I'm gonna do just that and only use them in this dungeon to try and replicate that experience.
I need help I don’t know what I did with the troops activation but I can’t do heat actions anymore I jus originally had it on auto use for the troops but I switch it back cause it got annoying if it jus activating mid fight if anyone knows what I should do ??

Wonder if any of you guys can help me? In short I was playing around with my trooper squads & I don't know what I did but now on my 4 main squad (wild dancer, swordsman, gunman & brawler) in that order. The screen says squad 1 2 3 1 rather than 1 2 3 4. So everytime I try to change 4th squad (brawler) it will change the troopers but it will also change the 1st squad too. Now I understand what's wrong (& I hope you guys get what I'm on about too) but don't know how to fix it. I even removed every trooper from all squads & tried to rebuild my team from scratch but it's still not working. I put in my wildancer squad fine, swordsman fine, gunman fine. But when I put in my brawler squad it also changes all my wildancer squad everytime.
So again, wondering if any of you can guide me, I feel like i can't continue/enjoy the rest of the game without getting this sorted first.
My original plan was to just swap out a few of the stronger troopers so I could level up a few of the lesser guys but I don't know what I ended up doing & now I have squad 1 squad 2 squad 3 & the next one (brawler) should be 4. Its in the 4th position but it says 1 & that's why everytime I try to change the brawler squad it changes my wildancer squad too.

Grr still chasing Shinada. Never bloody drops. Dont know if there is a specific way to obtain him, but I've had zero luck so far. Only on chapter 8 so far though, so maybe why? I dunno.

Question, was Ishin Kiwami rebalanced at all around these new cards? In essense If I use their health/attack buffs will I be overpowered, or is it sorta needed now to beat the game.
Most bosses have some magical wizard move now, so you can use it or not its up to you. But there is a giant enemy that always give a hard time so yeah better to use it or go balls out with sword and gun.
No need for buff, I defeated them with just my sword and gun. I just use for healings and recharge heat. Save my time instead pause and consume medicine. I think I become op because of my sword and guns 🤣
I gotta ask, how do you a 4th card on each squad? I'm only limited to 3 card per squad.

from what I've seen only mainline yakuza game characters are in the cards and nobody from the judgment series is, with the exception of new cards being added like characters from yakuza 0, Could possibly be wrong though but not seen anything that supports that.

You’ve gotta get your blacksmith level up. You can do it by donating weapons to the blacksmith or crafting things. I’d say to just buy a bunch of cheap swords from a weapons dealer and donate them to the blacks it for easy levels

I think the stars is just the game telling you how good it is, the +8 is the statistical strength. You can raise the number by feeding the trooper duplicates of the same trooper skill. Corporal skills go up by feeding them weapons they want.
Quick question: What does reputation do? Like you can max have lvl 10 rep in an area, but what does it do? :D
High rep= higher amounts of virtue earned.

@@Suzaku7410 say you sell something at pawn shop in Rakunai. I sold 40 Plat plates for 18000 virtue at max virtue upgrade. For EVEN more virtue, I maxed out rep there as well and now earn 27000 virtue when selling 40 platinum plates.

Was shinada stopping time in the original game or did they just give him that ability as compensation for not mentioned since y5?

He does for playing baseball. The whole slow down time to see the pitch thing.
He was in OG Ishin, but he's been nerfed as you cannot use Wild Dance's spin attack during the time stop unlike the original game.
Shinada was just a big damage boost in the original if I'm remembering right
Shinada just stopped enemies from moving for a few seconds in the original.
I dont think its that much necessary (at least in my gameplay) to use the cards. But i was hoping so much i can use this for the arena.... Turns out it doesnt work on arena :(
As a request, could you do a beginner's guide to Ishin! video with appropriate times that you slot in for these respective guides.
Cos' it'd be very helpful for anyone starting anew to optimize routes on when and how to tackle each respective system and would server as a hub to start from for all these guides.

They are promoted already. You can see word "Promotion" on top of your promoted cards.
Are the instructor cards just for fusion? Like if fuse a medical instructor into a card that does healing, it will gain more healing? Also does anyone know how they got the Shinada card? I've been spamming the 10 Ryo enlistment thing and haven't gotten him yet.
I snagged a Shinada card after defeating a random hooded opponent.

@@RoadrinI farmed the hell out of the Chicken Race Glitch Trick and then bought a ton of 20 Ryo Enlistment, and as a result won a few Shinada cards. My advice is to farm the Chicken Race until the 10 Ryo price doesn't matter and win a Shinada or two or three. Good luck!

Use the chicken betting for money, (use the chicken racing bug for faster guaranteed money) from those platinum plates you will get a lotta virtue to use for the priest shop and get the best food for style exp
How do you unlock the fourth slots?
That needs specific cards in the corporal slot. The Ichiban card for example is one of the cards that adds that 4th slot.
I found THE most broken card combo. Yonashiro Shozo + Shinada + Ichiban + Rikiya + Wild Dancer = Profit? Shozo is rare card (guy with afro). He will SUCK every enemy in the room at the one spot. Then Shinada for slowing time. Then Ichiban for damage boost. Then Rikiya to add more damage at the fallen enemies. It helps A LOT at the late dungeons against large group of enemies. Yeah, ninjas too.
Tendo (or Rahul if you have dlc) is amazing against giant bosses. Because, giant bosses do not fall down. They will take the entire damage.
Saeko and Makoto are best support cards. Saeko is good. But Makoto is a life savior. I play on Legendary. Sometimes game dosen't let me to open menu to heal my self. Makoto helps to save some heal items. Especially in the dungeons.
Last to mention is a dog card (Forgot the name). It helps during boss fights. It helps to stun and disarm enemies during boss fights. Not bosses.

Asking everybody familiar with it: how good is the Nyanners card?
All the guest cards from what I've checked surprisingly have weaker corporal traits compared to the other legendary cards.

Not gonna lie the trooper cards system is the main reason I'll wait for a price drop before buyin Ishin. I really don't like how boss become a dragon ball z fight.
I’ve beaten the game, and it’s totally feasible to go through the whole game without using the cards at all after the tutorial for them. I’ve used the health and heat refills along with the attack boosters, but none of the ridiculous special attacks.
@Jordan Someone ok they are still there in your HUD and bosses still use those over the top final moves
I'd only use them for the super spongy dungeon bosses since I found that I couldn't stagger them.
I bought the third division armament expansion kit and I got fucking scammed.
I tried to install it but it said that I had to buy it again 😊

Ugh, I hate these cards. Or rather, they can be useful in the dungeons but I can't be arsed to spend tens of hours fusing and fucking together a perfect team.
You get, like, 12 legendary cards with the deluxe edition, so why even bother to do anything else but equip those bad boys and let them do the work for you?
Of course, hating the card system, I haven't cared to try out even those fancy cards. I picked 4 at random and have stuck with them from then on.
It seems to work fine. Just put them on auto-pilot and forget all about them.
