My buddy, that i showed the game a few weeks back, actually went completely crazy and learned ALL words from all languages already. Had to supply him with a few warp cells through that, but i didnt mind. :) I loved how dedicated he was to his goal, and now he can understand every alien perfectly.. kinda insane. Just sad, that steam doesnt have an Achievement for learning all words.
This applies to not only NMS but so much in life lol. Try to be in the moment and enjoy what you’re doing instead of always trying to rush to the next thing because once there’s no next thing you’re going to realize you never got to fully enjoy the experience and now it’s over
Exactly people do the same in many other games like Elden Ring the moment it came out everyone tried to rush through it as fast as possible like Asmongold for example
I spent days searching for an earth like paradise planet with rings like Saturn. I cannot express the joy I felt when I found it. I built a replica of my own home, planted giant trees to create my own, private forest, and have spent countless hours exploring that one system. Each planet had something different to offer. I built different farms for even the most basic supplies. I scanned every fauna, I’ve activated countless waypoints, I even found a settlement on my planet that was effectively lake side. That lake had a little island where I built a cabin. I’ve spent hours exploring the nearby systems as well. If you expand the galaxy map you’ll see I’ve established bases, created farms and fully explored them. And that’s all just one pocket in one galaxy. And then there’s the community. NMS Coordinate exchange is a treasure trove of cool shit. Locations for cool ships, multi-tools or animals to adopt as pets. It’s endless. Sometimes I just wander around other players’ base builds to get ideas or marvel at their creativity. Anyone playing NMS for an “end goal” is missing the point. Sometimes I play the game just to sit on a planet and take in the sights and sounds. I have a base on a mountainous planet with glowing purple fields and dinosaurs. My cabin sits perched on a cliff so high that jumping off of it takes a good 20-30 seconds to hit the bottom. It’s awesome.
So true, this is what peak no man's sky gameplay is. You don't play to finish a story like the other games. you play as if you're living in an alternate world. I do this to relax after a whole week of work lol. Sometimes I mute the in-game music and play a some relaxing music, or even podcast on Spotify to set the mood.
@@nomadicstrengthThey got VR too. Totally different experience. The VR makes it surreal, larger than life. I was gonna check starfield out, but saving my money to buy light no fire from this same developer. Hopefully it drops this year.
the problem with No Man's Sky is that you arent really exploring the galaxy you are just visiting the same planet over and over with a different filter applied. You cant fly through a solar system for example like you can do in Elite Dangerous and fly past moons and gas giants and around the sun. It very much feels like an artifice
There was this one time where I've spent like a total of 10+ hours looking for the best planet to put my base in, all the while having fun doing so, searing planets and such. After finding the ideal planet, It felt so significant. It was worth the time I've spent.
What are you looking for in a perfect planet? You like the colours and oceans? The materials? Creatures? All of that? I've played the game for like 2 hours I still have no idea what I'm doing. xD just following directions given by the game..
This video was fantastic. I have been playing NMS for a few years now, and never really understood why it didn't resonate the same way with my friends, as it did with me. I guess this video really contextualized how I enjoy the game. By just being a curious little traveler. To reiterate the disclaimer: you can choose to enjoy things however you would like to, or not at all even.
I would LOVE multi biome planets and some more diversity in flora and fauna on each planet to create more of that “need to see more than just where you landed” maybe worlds pt two will touch on that?
Multi biome worlds would be very cool, I don't know how taxing that would be on the hardware but maybe it will come. But this would be just another fantastic thing for something which is already fantastic. Ultimately you'd always go into orbit to travel between biomes and that is functionally almost identical to travelling to new planets.
I scanned a creature once, and it said for notes "Stomach in skull", and another time I saw "Breaths through mouth" Game literally called it a mouth breather.
LMAO the mouth breather line is crazy haha, the stomach in skull is kinda wild, I guess depending on the head structure the food they eat would go straight there so I guess it works?
I have fun being an intergalactic salvager. Find a crashed ship, fix it up as much as possible then sell it. It actively makes you explore planets looking for the neccessary resources. If I have some adventures on the way and find a better ship for myself (currently a sentinel class A!) so much the better!
@alanhepburn446 you go to a cartographer on a space station and get distress signal chart. Load it into your computer and it'll take you to one of a few things. One of those being a crashed spaceship
@@STREETMERCRACES you can get distress signal maps from space stations or, once you have an exocraft, use it's radar to find them. It's also possible just to spot them when you're flying around a planet's surface but that's quite rare.
I feel so called out, because I am always rushing games. You are so right. I do need to take my time on the games I play and for some Void damn reason I am only finding out my mistake today. Thank you.
I do that too. I feel like I'm useless if I'm not levelling up, getting better items, better armor, ships and everything. I think I just need to slow down.
This helped me get back in to games from my youth like FF7. As long as I obsessed about not missing anything and playing the "perfect run" it felt so hollow and boring like filling out an excel spreadsheet. Once I put down the guides all the fun came back. All sense of discovery is lost once we try to optimize everything.
The problem is that the whole game is build like a factory from day 1. The main game loop is based on collecting resources, the game is a survival after all, so can't really enjoy something that was not built that way. Try to find the difference between NMS worlds and something like Mass Effect worlds, or even the most recent Starfield worlds: they are alive, even if barren. You travel with a companion, you have something to do that is not just scan plants and rocks and collect resources and walk around. That is what NMS miss most of the time. It was built as exploration game but as game where you go to planet X, scan stuff for money; collect stuff for money and to get to the next place where you scan stuff for money and collect stuff for money, so you can upgrade things to go farther to get more scans of things for money... And you survive in the meantime. It is the very core loop of the game that is against itself. If NMS was designed to be an exploration game, you would not be alone; you would walk around your ship; and when building your capital ship interior, it would not look like every single piece has a functionality to make money or produce something... You are in fact making factories on land or in space. And nothing wrong with that; this is what NMS is: solitary exploration and survival. If that is what you like, it is a great game, but if you want a real exploration game, you are stuck with stuff like Mass Effect, where you can't pilot a ship nor get all the awesome things you get in NMS
I always do one if its a quicksilver related Build an Outpost mission and name them FOB: X WHATEVER/DATE. E.g I'm Irish so the last one I did was on good friday so it's called "FOB: Gek Friday aGRAHment". It's now also my official drop in spot for harvesting milk etc cos I got lucky with creature spawn in the area in hindsight.
I wonder if i can find my neighbors, started playing NMS at the end of 2022, and just simply build my base on a trending planet that i found in the Anomaly called Twelve Towers, still have no idea what to do but some visitor on that planet dumped me something that costs like 180mil lmao and spent it overnight on A class exotic ship, still confused but i just build stuff and do some space plundering for quick cash lol
I've spent well over 700+ hours building several land bases, an underwater base and an orbital base. It's a very good universe to go chill in and relax, but it's missing something, maybe a protagonist, more sense of danger or difficult obstacles to overcome. You can become so OP really fast, even in permadeath or survival. But I still love the exploration and wonder and it keeps bringing me back!😊
Ark is TOUGH sometimes I can’t count the number of times I have slowly died to a pack of troodans that came out of literally no where. Those glowing eyes give me night mares lol
If you want to get more of a sense of danger, max the difficulty, go Permadeath mode, then go round picking fights with Sentinels and whatever else you can find.
@@7thsealord888 the problem with the difficulty is that they play by grand theft auto rules on the ground where all you have to do is slip into a building and they forget you exist. I confess to struggling with dogfights in the beginning but that was before I realized I'm in a spaceship and if I just stay still I can pivot like a turret.
Besides from the vallues being changed now and activated indium now being worth less then gold active income has always been mote then passive just scanning a few animals tmrocks and plants will yield you more then any mine with some good s class scanners installed
Allowing NMS to organically unfold while doing what you like best is amazing. I found that scanning creatures was something I really enjoyed. I found I can get upgrades that give me more rewards for scanning creatures. Then since I wanted to stay on foot longer on extreme worlds, I started to get suit upgrades . While looking for creatures I found tons of buried modules. I would jump back to my settlement to check on them, then it would get attacked so I had to make my Minotaur mech better and then... You get the idea.
its so good. you can kinda compare it to sea of thieves. if you play that, do some easy voyages and something happens on the way you build your own little story in the time you spend in the game. i love it
yeah the scanner upgrade is really OP. I was like why would I want to upgrade my scanner?! but getting like 80K for scanning a single animal?! yes please! XD
Honestly, the reason I love this game is because of the scenery. Why do I need to do anything else but just look at the planets themselves, from space or on them, day or night, cloudy or clear, etc. it's that feeling that I can feel as "what beauty have my eyes been laid upon?" Another reason I play this game. Freedom. Just being able to do as I please. Sure, you can have checkboxes for missions but you can do them at your own time. Take as much time as you want. No need to do this everything in fifteen seconds. In my eyes. There's no other reason to play No Man's Sky other than the sheer beauty of each planet and moon.
I feel like the one of the most important skills someone who plays videogames can have is the ability to adjust one's mindset to enjoy games more fully. It saves you from feeling like you have no games to play while you have a full shelf and loaded steam library full of them.
THIS! I mega agree I can just change how I wanna play and replay so many different games, I mean i once did like 3 skrim runs back to back cause I wanted to do entirely different play throughs, I was in modded vr so that made it easier
Normally, i play high action games. But i started playing this a few days ago and get so lost in the immersion and lose track of time. I dont engage in alot of combat yet im always blown away by how it captures me and pulls me in so easily. Such an amazing game!
I was disappointed with the base building, not because I couldn't build a big factory, but because I couldn't build my cozy space beach cabana. Sure I can build a cabin on the beach, but there's nothing to really put there. Once I had a storage space, lights, and solar power, I'd built everything I was interested in building.
Grabbing scanning missions at a space station is a good way to incentivize yourself to explore. Also if you re going to make an underwater base see if the "Build an Outpost" mission is available at the anomaly.
You don't need missions for giving yourself incentives. Data points, finding mineral, electricity, and gas farming locations, finding crash site to get extra slots for your multitool and starship, .. are good incentives. All the stupid missions have become a drag to the progress of the game and the story sucks. I want a good strategy game, not a game will totally linear and silly stories.
@Rudolf Hillers The developer has spent way too much time creating the story line and missions and totally forgot about gameplay. This game can turn into the best strategy game if the developer changes the direction of the game.
@Rudolf Hillers Exactly, more varieties of villains and wild animals that behave differently with different useful drops will be nice. Allowing for more farming, production, fighting, .. strategies will be good too. I hate linearly stories in general. That's why I didn't even buy Horizon Call of the Mountains cause I don't like Horizon Forbidden West. Unfortunately, the developer used to work for EA on games like perhaps Star Wars.
I just wander around the different systems acting like a traveller, I often get side tracked from missions but that's ok. I like spending time in the outlaw systems being a space pirate, raiding freighters and delivering shady packages to suspicious characters. It's all good fun.
Having a big frigate fleet actually does serve a purpose. The more frigates you have the more fleet missions you can have active at one time. Unless they changed it recently
Just gonna say it. Lock your options. Playing this way keeps you on track. The main story paths and the natural progression will feel more rewarding than just “s”classing everything and unlocking all blueprints. My two cents 😊
The main story is a good idea if you have not done it yet, I have done it about 3 times and now I never want to touch it when I restart I just wanna vibe as a space guy👽
I actually never S class anything. I like to have everything in C class (and maybe a single A or B class things) so everything is more challenging. Combat is way more fun. And nexus missions are waaaaay harder. I only give myself an A or B class shield, for example, whenever I buy the armor from the quicksilver guy. Again, it's all about roleplay. Bonus tip: In my run, only freighters may warp between stars. So you're stuck on your first system in the beginning. And guess what: you actually get to know the system and all its planets in detail. It becomes "home".
@@kazz6678 In your settings there is a tab where you can adjust your game‘s difficulty (normal, survival, permadeath, relaxed, creative, custom). In that tab you will find the option to lock in your difficulty so that you can’t change it in that save anymore.
This change in mentality was exactly what I was after, started the game recently and was instantly hooked going in blind. After watching Hawkes gaming's best start guide I felt like I had been playing my first 10hrs so inefficiently and tried starting again following the guide step by step and just didn't enjoy my time anywhere near as much. Can still highly recommend his video as I learned so many mechanics like the melee jet pack boost for faster movement but you are correct going straight from the first ship to an S class felt like id be skipping so much of the reward from naturally finding new ships! Glad I only got an hour or two into playing this way, time to start over 'organically', Cheers Travelers!
Many people wouldn't have issues with optimizing their journey if inventory space wasn't an issue. The main driver towards optimization is the fact that you keep running out of space, your ship keeps running out of space and it's incredibly frustrating. Most people (me included) just want to upgrade the inventory slots of everything, and then they feel like they can finally start enjoying the game.
Hmm I havnt had the problem of it being too much, but i definitely agree that a day dosnt go by that I don’t have to do some inventory stuff to keep the important stuff
HEY I came back to find this comment, I just learned you can give your self the max inventory space on a custom difficulty! So that might save you a lot of time
This is true. So many of these games limit your inventory too aggressively. I'm constantly having to decide what to throw away. It's a game. Let me carry anything I want. I can already make antimatter with two ingredients while standing outside my house so realism isn't an issue
Totally agree. I set a goal to keep jumping until I got to a lush galaxy about half way through the galaxy sequence... around 110ish... as I thought that would be nice and quiet. Then I went to the centre of that galaxy and checked the various systems that you can jump to the centre from, looking for a wealthy system with a paradise planet that i was the first to discover - so I could name it. Then I built a base ...a bit like the post office tower in london, a tower with a big viewing gallery at the top that i set up with tables and chairs, a bar etc and called it the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
I'm not into base building, but I play the game since 2017 and I've had so much fun just by scanning every fauna and flora in any planet I may go and naming every single animal, plant or rock. Sometimes I give them funny names, sometimes I name them something that recalls their description and sometimes I give them random human names.
From the first 3 minutes this video is a breath of fresh air. I've been all about optimizing and min/maxing everything when it comes to games. I'd always liked what I saw from No Man's but would always get burnt out and couldn't put my finger on why. Thank you so much for this video!
Total agree I play every day for about an hour - but I try to do something different each time - improve a base, explore a new planet, fight sentinels, do some trading etc. etc. etc. Its such a great game to be able to do just about anything you feel like at the time.
1:26 after some stuff in the story that i won't mention to avoid spoilers there is literally a mission that says something along the lines of "the galaxy is now yours to enjoy".
Definitely something I need to do more. I basically went full grind-mode, got all the money and nanites I could ever need, until I got bored of it. I did enjoy that, but I haven’t taken my time to do much else. Haven’t even tried making a fully fledged settlement, since the profit didn’t seem worth the effort.
Another tip that might help, go into custom game, put the hardest options available and turn on permadeath, that makes the game 100 times more intense and vivid, it will put you to the test
Very well said. I have been telling people I know for years to play like a D&D character, be the traveler & find out all the why. Have a friend how just builds farms & looks for cute animals to adopt. An other that scraps sentinel ships & harasses pirates. It’s like I always say; actually finish the tutorial (Artemis &Null, as it opens rest of the game!!) then explore who your character is & what they want you to be. Thanks for this post & I hope everyone starting this game watches it.
I started my game as a pirate and made a fortune and then I found a paradise planet. So I sold all my stored up counter fit goods and pirate stuff then used the fake passport and retired as an overseer of a settlement on the paradise planet. A good life
The guys voice and tone seems to me he genuinely wants to help us out and give us advice to improve our lives and well beings. Thank you whoever you are
You are so right. There are so many things to do in this game I don't see how anybody can get bored. Truth is, I don't have enough time in my day to do all the things I want to do. So thanks for this. It was nice to watch.
I got NMS about a year ago when it went on a big sale on steam. I have been curious about it since I kept hearing people talk about how it actually became a pretty decent game, so I wanted to give it a try. At first I was probably a bit overwhelmed with the game, but decided to just go with the flow and, well, explore. Definitely a good call on my part! After about a month, I took a break, and came back and now I cannot put the game down. There is enough variety that it keeps my attention. For example, one moment I feel like exploring, so I do just that for like an hour. As soon as I get a little bored of that, I decide to make some money by hopping system-to-system, buying their trading goods, and making a trading route. When I get a little tired of that, I can do base building, ship hunting, multitool hunting, or gather resources. On top of all of this, No man's sky is just INSANELY chill. For me it is the perfect game to relax to after a long day at work. My biggest issue, and I personally think it is a bit of a missed opportunity, is the lack of customization for areas around your base. I would love to be able to actually bring animals from a different planet to my base and make a zoo. I would also love to be able to grab minerals and flora from other planets to decorate around my base. I like the concept of making a little oasis in the middle of a volcanic planet haha.
I've owned the game since pre-launch and due to some health issues, pure combat can be painful. But I find lots of ways to keep occupied in game. My personal thing is building BNBs on really beautiful planets or unusual ones.
I'm a new player and I wasn't bored of the game yet but I watched your video anyway out of curiosity, and you basically described my gameplay style I guess I won't be bored with this game for YEARS to come, it's so beautiful and relaxing
I feel like part of no mans sky is creating your own unique story for yourself and experiences. I designed this organization for myself called IAC Galactic which is a rogue trader union wandering the galaxy. Theyre chaotic neutral in the sense that we will destroy as many frigates as we save, colonize as many planets as we survey and interact with as many races as we fight. It gives me a mission that is always present and underlying.
@@oskar751 it's in game role playing! Just helps keep me locked in 😁😁 Working on building structures on a desert world I'm currently living on as one of my centres of operation
Well said man! I just love how chill this game is. Like you said, log in and smell the roses. However, I am a ship hunter and I find doing that is so fun and rewarding. *cheers*
Thank you, I love videos like this. I don't struggle much with being like super efficient in a game like this (mostly because I haven't really played it enough to know how to actually git gud/rich), but I absolutely love finding content that helps hype me up a little to get me back into playing something. Either because I'm kinda wishy washy about it/on the fence or am definitely gonna play it and just want to be more excited, and this helped. The only issue I have right now is feeling like I'm going to be overwhelmed by all of the things that have changed over the years. I've come and gone but never fully grasped most of the newer mechanics and things to see/do so I feel like I won't know wtf I'm doing or should do. I was thinking about maybe trying to get a thing that would let me play old Expeditions, but even if I do that, I don't know which one would be worth doing to give me the best bang for my buck as far as my time and the most guided or best learning experience? Something relating to freighters or solar ships might be nice since I've barely had the former and barely know the latter even exists lol. If anyone has any input on these things, I'd appreciate the guidance.
I’m not sure how long it’s been since you played but at one point they stripped down some of the crafting systems to be more streamlined and digestible. If you wouldn’t mind starting over I feel the new tutorial gives you a good basis for starting now. It’s easy to get overwhelmed but my recommendation is to not worry about any specific task. Just see something you are interested in and mess with it, if it’s building then mess around and do that. If it’s fixing a ship, mess into that. But don’t be afraid to switch to a new task if it interest you more cause there is always gonna be multiple things you “could” do so just worry about one at a time and focus on having fun and it should help fight that overwhelming feeling. “I’ll get to it eventually” has actually helped me a ton in that reguard
I am so glad I found your video. I've had the game for years, tried playing on psvr1 but did not want to go through the learning process, besides the graphics were so so. Now on psvr2 I find that the look is pretty good and I just fixed my beginning ship. I've watched a couple of other beginner videos and am happy to find that I can switch from flat to VR in the same game since learning menus, crafting etc is just more comfortable lounging around. Then when I put the headset on it's really awesome to jump into the world where I left off.
I know the PSVR 2 and PCVR version are definitely the best, but how is the original PSVR version on the PS4 Slim?, is it good or playable? I really want to try No Man's Sky in VR someday, it sounds like the perfect game to feel immersive but I don't have the money for a better PC or a more modern VR headset.
@@MoonSarito Hello Games just released a 10Gb update including foveated rendering. The psvr2 version js now incredible, just about as good as flat. As for psvr1, I wouldn't waste my time playing on that.
I definitely feel like this has been my problem for awhile. Whenever I play I tend to try to find the most optimized ways to make money or nanites, best ships, best planets, etc. It ends up getting boring and I stop after a few weeks. Meanwhile I can watch my girlfriend play and she just goes from planet to planet and explores around the surface, scans everything, and genuinely seems to have a blast. She may not be the greatest at games but she definitely seems to get more enjoyment out of them than I have in a long time.
one thing I did recently was move to a planet that had a lot of players on it. On the reddit or YT theres a ton of people who will share their perfect paradise planet and that attracts a lot of players. Feels cool to load up the game and physically see changes to the area around you. although I would recommend keeping important storage in your freighter, never know when a glitch that allows players to steal your loot or destroy your base parts might pop up.
I love your video! I've got over 3000 hours in the game and have done all the things you listed at the end. Here are some other things to do: Find your own squid ship. Read all the lore cycles found in the game: for example, the abandoned base lore, and the lore loop found at boundary failures on exotic worlds. Learn all words of all languages in game (including the Atlas language). Complete the Atlas path after learning all the Atlas words so that you can read all the Atlas lore as you do the Atlas path. (I did this on my first save, since I prioritized learning all languages when I started playing.) Find all identifiable rocks, animals, and plants in a system, including unique rocks and plants in underwater caves, etc.... Warp! to the Galactic Hub and make a base in one of the Hub systems. Join other civilizations. Warp to one of the corners of one of the galaxies. (Each galaxy is shaped kind of like a pizza box and has eight corners!) Warp along an entire edge of a galaxy. Play in permadeath at max difficulty. (Ultimately this gets to be as easy as normal, after you learn the game.) Min/max your suit/a ship/freighter/multitool. Find planets with ultra-rare combinations of geographical features. Find greater mushroom beetles. Find killer care bears! Learn to make music with the bytebeat. Learn how to wire control circuits of various kinds. Learn how to glitch build with bases. Find a station with a first spawn exotic ship for scrapping. Find a station with two first spawn exotic ships! Find a max size S-class capital freighter. Do PVP. Find a perfect planet.
I think maybe you should make a NMS vid with all this exprience, I am going to look for those Killer Care Bears🧸🐻🐻❄ and learn more about this Bytebeat thing?👍
Man your first part about getting money and tryna get the best of the best asap. I stepped away because of that reason felt no goal. But coming back to it last week with all the recent updates and taking my time late at night when I have 4-5 hours of time to play and it’s super fun
Looking at what people do in the comments and your suggestions in the video, I'm definitely going to start playing No Man's Sky differently than before.
Something you didn't mention which really brings more to the game, is the community. The community is incredibly wholesome and welcoming. There's something for everyone. I personally joined the Galactic Hub, which is the largest civilization, and I never got burnt out. Really changed my perspective on the game
My advice: Play Extreme Permadeath. I just finished my run to the center of the galaxy. And … man. What an experience. It wasn’t always a nail-biting thing, in fact, I found more peace eventually, because I decided to really savor the game more. I made up my mind that, if I failed my Permadeath run, that was it. I was never attempting it again. It was truly a one-and done. So, what happened was I actually spent time making exo-craft, and leveling up my hazard protection so I could survive anywhere. I established a settlement town because I had never done it before, and I knew I’d be taking a long break from NMS after the permaD run. I ended up getting the Platinum trophy, and became an outlaw, and just… flirted with death for fun. I came within a single hit of a deleted save more than a few dozen times, and every time I did I felt more alive. Eventually, I did what we all have to do… just buckle down and make the few hundred jumps to the center. I also took the Atlas Path so I could get the Black-Hole vision … and it was just… I don’t know how to put it… I guess it’s now my most favorite Save file in the game. I go to my other files, and though they’re fun, and relaxing. They’re not the triumph my PermaDeath save is. Now Omega Expedition is out… I’m playing again… and I can even use my Permadeath Save as the starting point. How awesome is that?
I actually like optimizing stuff, and was previously only making circuit boards/ living glass, so I decided to unlock some blueprints on the anomaly to make cryogenic chambers to finally get those millions of units so i could get a cool multi-tool or any single ship I stumbled across. I set up the appropriate farms and planned out the correct ratios. It was fun to build them all up and craft my first products, but after I made enough to just about break a billion units, I realized it was just too easy now. And I wasn't even making Stasis Chambers. So I'm kinda pulling back from that, just crafting and selling the products every few play sessions when I feel like it, instead focusing on the other things I like doing - exploring places, beating Sentinels to a pulp, trying to find Earth-like planets, or finding a planet with cool fauna, or just finding cool planets/vistas in general, and doing more of the story. I think the Units just make it easier to enjoy these other things.. although now the thing I'm needing is nanites for upgrades lol. Good thing I enjoy beating up Sentinels! Maybe in the future I'll make a Stasis farm just to say that I've done it, but I feel like I have enough units now to not worry about not having enough. For example, if a freighter fleet warps into space nearby, I'll go ahead and check it out to see if I can find any A or S class ships.
I sorta handicap myself with making money in nms. I can make stasis device if I want to. But well I sold a couple and then I had so much money. I like to make my money scanning planets and fauna you can get scanning upgrades which increase unit reward for scanning. I hunt down sentinal ships and sell them. Doing some bounty missions. I use my fleets to gather units and treasure. I probably carry about 300 million on me atm tbh. Maybe a few nexus missions. Like instead of focusing on making the most money. I have built farms for functionality. I have an underwater base which is fantastic for mining dhydrogen with the sub. As you cant build a farm for dhiydrogen. And a nice copper farm this isn't for money. This is so I can easily access unlimited warp cells easily :)
Great video!! I quit duping and glitching a long time ago and just started playing the game and building my character's "life" organically. I find it MUCH more relaxing just playing the game and enjoying the exploration.
This is actually excellent advice for EVERY game you play. People work hard for years trying to create a detailed experience for the people who buy and play it yet everyone wants to speedrun the content (and in the process miss the details) SLOW DOWN is the best advice I've ever heard of for someone feeling unsatisfied with video games in general. Don't just play it, experience it. It's OKAY not to win or finish it right away.
I did the underwater base! I made an underwater nautilon dock, like the one in Deep Blue Sea where Samuel L. Jackson gets eaten by a shark. (look it up, that movie is crazy, a shark gets stabbed in the eye with a crucifix, and there's a chef with a parrot.)
This video just showed up in my feed, and I have to add a number 10: play in VR! Obviously depends on you having the proper setup, and the recent Echoes update included foveated rendering on the PSVR 2 which makes that version the best right now, but no matter the specifics, this game has an incredible sense of scale that you really appreciate in this mode. There's nothing quite like taking off from a planet, and looking to your side as the world first tilts, and then geographic features slowly become smaller until you're in space. It's amazing and I recommend it to everyone.
I was about to say at the start of the video that not everyone likes the same things but you slapped me in the face with that disclaimer. Good video, good editing & good quick-chatting a video where you get what you ask and more in under 6 minutes. Good work.
My family and I remove the matter transfer device off the freighter and we go out looking for the ingredients to make chocolate ice cream. When we are done making the ice cream in game we have a bowl in real life as well. Sometimes we make the ice cream irl as well using the ziplock bag method. We also go looking for planets to document and vote for best find. Winner gets the irl prize like choosing the next movie to watch together. I still have the large room for refining set up because I find it relaxing to refine everything instead of using the blueprints. Not so much about units anymore. I've got that covered.
Excellent tips all around. Here’s one more: Start a new save often. I restart a lot. Give yourself a challenge like you can’t do X or Y for money this run. I tend to do the same strategies a lot, so when I take those off the table it makes me be more creative. I’ve found that hauling trade goods is way easier and more lucrative than I thought it was, and it grows your money really fast since you make more and you can buy more with each trip. 👍🏻
@@true_cyan9188 Yep, exactly. If smuggling is nearly the only thing you do for money (a great strategy, of course) then take that off the table completely. Now you have to find some other ways and it makes you strategize. Or you can only leave the first system once you’ve made 10 million units. Whatever ideas you want to make for challenges. Also, Beeblebum has some great challenges like the Fugitive Challenge, which can be a lot of fun. Modify the rules a bit if it gets too tedious and just make it fun. 👍🏻
5 years playing and I finally got around making enough money and nanos to upgrade my favorite ship. I never like grinding so I always put it off and did things I enjoyed more like finding hostile planets and build bases on them.
This generation doesn't know how to enjoy games, and this is why they need videos like this. Same happens in GTAO where everyone was always grinding boring ass missions instead of playing fun games and races
I’m sayin, gtao really is about just having a good time. If you’re only grinding for one thing you’re just gonna get it and then quit and stop playing the game
No, you haven’t if you’ve spent a couple hours in more than 255 glaxies, near infinite planets, and seen everything there is to see, you’re either Einstein, or uninformed
18 quintillion stars and a lot more planets, there’s even black holes nebulas, and space pirates with unique ships, guns, fleets, and tactics. If you really mean what you’re saying, you must be talking about starfield.
@@TheFirstAndLastObserver You use a lot of hyperbole which completely undermines your argument. "near infinite planets" means absolutely nothing when they all fall into a few simple categories (biomes) and look the same overall regardless. I mean according to your logic, Pacman is the greatest game of all time because of its near infinite levels and all the dots that you can gobble up.
@@jasonduvall9480 Here’s the thing, there’s subclasses of those biomes and subclasses of those subclasses. Also, if you are comparing a game with an ecosystem with biomes, planets, fauna and flora to a game which has you run from ghosts and eat pellets; you’re talking about completely different subjects. If you really stand by your original statement Then I advise you to really explore the many different amazing events like colliding planets, or planets that orbit black holes, Maybe even an Exo planet
Good video its nice to see a nms video that encourages playing this game and not just spue out portal addresses. I never get in to exploring but this game has sucked me in I built resource bases but every now an again i just land on a planet and walk around topping off resources and scanning I don't know why every one is in such a rush. If you drop in a system there is a million things you can do. Right now im doing my first run to Hilbert Dimension.
I have never loved the portal stuff, I think it’s cool don’t get me wrong. But it feels like It will cheapen what ever it is I’m going to get if I were to use someone’s portal address to find something cool.
@@true_cyan9188 portals are only good for when you don't have a lot of game time and you want to get a cool multitool or ship or whatever you may want to see or have
One way (for me atleast) to enjoy NMS is just explore and try to find a perfect planet for you. Now, I know when people hear "fiery windy hellscape" they don't think it's a nice planet, but I love it because it also has fire tornadoes that toss you up in the air and I've basically decided my character is someone who loves to explore dangerous but perhaps fun things about the universe. I love thunderstorm planets (not because of Storm Crystals, but that too), but because it is exciting to see and experience it and just watch from your windowed bubble tower. It's amazing how open ended this game is and how it is, as you explained it, "play it as space D&D as a character you're roleplaying".
I appreciate what you're saying about the game. I enjoy the game a lot and I take my time to explore and find all the unique different creatures. I see the game as a big adventure exploring new areas. I always liked finding broken-down ships and repairing them. And learning about the different alien language.
I hadn't played in a few years, and had none of my old save games. My spawn system had a "Barren" water planet, with tons of flora and fauna that show up on large circular land masses (doesn't seem that "barren" to me, lol). Oh, I wish I had more technology to explore oceans better. But hey. We can always come back later on. :D I'm impressed with the added parts to flora. The flora actually looks much more interesting. :) The little tidbits of information about flora and fauna were often interesting, and sometimes hilarious. You can tell they had some fun making these things. I'm just a nerd for exploring new worlds. Shout-out to environment/level designers. That's what I usually do in games that have an expansive world. Heck, even limited 2D worlds, like in old Mario side-scrollers. I never beat one, because I'm exploring, not playing the game, lol. I'll turn the camera to all angles, and occasionally find some amazing landscapes in games people don't talk about much. In other games, I also like finding ways to get to background places that are just there for background scenery. Anyway, NMS is great for exploring. There are now rare weather events, even rarer planet types, wacky plants, and creatures. So long as they keep adding more parts, I'll never run out of things to be in wonder with. But I'm also one of those people that is in wonder, even walking down the street in my neighbourhood. The world is just so beautiful. Even the ugly parts.
Ever heard of the four gaming personality types? Killer, Achiever, Socializer, and Explorer. This game is made for Explorers; Killers and Achievers are going to get bored quickly. I'm personally KAES and I get bored pretty quickly.
I want to make a lot of money but not by farming activated indium. I want to raid pirate freighters and smuggle illegal contraband in the game because that’s more fun and you get too see more of the world wrather then just farming indium
There really needs to be some more combat missions on planets... like a cave that turns into a dungeon kinda thing that you gotta go through and find some loot..like the derelict freighters maybe... there needs to be more things to do that actually have a reason to do it. im less than two weeks into this game, ive got a stupid amount of money, and the only reason I ever visit a planet now, is to look for new interceptor models, otherwise, theres really no reason to do anything
I would like some more direct content like the freighters, but the game is set up as a sandbox survival game. You’re supposed to enjoy going through all the motions of the game, “the prize is the journey” typa vibe. I do agree that some cave spelunking update would be SUPER cool.
@@true_cyan9188 Well yeah but...sandboxes need THINGS TO DO in them. It didn't take much time at all until I ran out of things to do. Telling people to just build a house and chill in it and do nothing is just - whatever man. At some point every biome starts looking the same. All the creatures are the same. Planets look at the same with the same thing to do in them. Even Interceptor which JUST launched after seeing 100+ Sentinel ships and finding the one you want...it's all the same. The game is a mile wide and an inch deep. Just like Elite Dangerous. I've done everything, seen everything, I have everything I could ever need/want....meh. So why play? What's the goal? Where are the challenges? Just because it's a sandbox doesn't mean there shouldn't be things to do or random things that keep one interested.
Build an underground maze get with some of your friends Put two teams together and go at it there is your combat Mission. Get a group together I would like minded people and see what you can come up with together. You never knoh a couple of heads are better than one Try multiplayer.
You hit the nail on the head. It's like playing minecraft in creator mode. Sure you can build cool stuff and do cool things but with no clear direction or goal other than what you make up yourself, the game gets stale for a lot of people fast. Some people love that type of freedom but i personally find it boring. I haven't played for a year but last time there was no reason to build ground bases, you had your frighter. There was no reason to become an overseer of an outpost since it gave you nothing useful other than just to say you have one. That's how most of the game is. Multiplayer is a joke outside doing missions together. You will quickly find you do most things on your own
@@Reclaimer77 Man you hit me hard with a gut punch mentioning Elite. It's the exact reason I quit it a year ago. So far No Man's Sky seems more vibrant and lively and I'm enjoying being a Zensunni Wanderer on the planets I come across as much as I'm enjoying the space aspect (Though I only started this week), but the mention of ED has got my hackles up XD
I just came back to this game and Im finally having fun. Ive tried so many times to get into it. Its exactly as you said, just slow down and enjoy the exploration. I always struggled with the idea that theres no fixed goal. But now Im just taking it slow. And with my blackmarket attachments to my scanner, money hasnt really been an issue with just exploring every planet and scanning all the plants and rocks and animals.
Just started playing and accidently got my first freighter. Who knew you get your first freighter free for saving them from pirates. I have to admit that was pretty cool, figured I would need to grind for ages to afford one.
I think every third jump, or a jump after spending X amount of time in a system will always result in a freighter rescure spawn when entering a system. Best part is you don't have to take the first one you save. You can keep jumping and triggering them until you find one you want and then take that as your first free freighter ;)
(Let me preface this by saying I do switch settings around occasionally to alleviate the following points.) Personally I set everything to creative mode. Invincibility. Free purchases. Free crafting etc. I don't like the idea of having to go to entire other solar systems for very specifc resources. The loading times between jumps are annoying. So I just skip the grind honestly. But it is a double edged sword. On one hand I get to just explore. But as someone else said. Seen one part of a planet pretty much seen the whole planet other than some interesting terrain height and depths. Plus I got like the best system for the start. A beautiful world with calm waters no storms. Beautiful skybox in space, blue sun. It's not classified as a paradise planet but it feels like one. And while I am invincible. And don't have to spend money or craft. It does remove a lot of the engagement. There's no point to combat, or digging up ruins, or exploring abandoned frigates. Cause they're just going to give me rewards for stuff that because of my settings. I literally don't need. When I learned how you're SUPPOSED to go about getting sentinal ships. I just felt such a wave of tedium. That's one case where I will happily keep it on creative. Yes I'm aware this is my own fault. Yes I know I can change the settings. But. Every time I do try to enjoy the intended experience. I'm quickly reminded how much I don't want to deal with all the resources and stuff. And sentinals?! ... Don't even get me started. Yeah I know the game is about slowing down and really enjoying it. And I can appreciate that in a game. I really can. But it feels like a chore to deal with all the resources and crafting and repairing ships. Maybe at some point I'll just tough it out and try to enjoy as intended. But ... I don't know. It's a weirdly unique situation of my own making. As someone said years ago on an unrelated comment section. "It's not the game's fault if YOU can't stop cheating." ... And that's true. But I'm having fun. Yet also I'm not. ... There's no have your cake and eat it to scenario here.
@@true_cyan9188 I started the 1st 50 hrs on PSVR and a PS4 Pro. I have put 150 hours in on the PS5 and PSVR2. I have also never played it on a flat screen. I tried once and couldn't figure out the controls.
@@JayBravo612 LMAO that’s hilarious, the recent update for psvr2 did look pretty nice, I always struggle with the joy stick when you’re flying but maybe it’s just not the best with the valve index. The game running smoothly in vr sounds like an actual dream tho, what an amazing experience I bet that is!
@@true_cyan9188 flying is still really touchy with PSVR2 thumbsticks but It's only like 5% of my gameplay experience so I use the auto-engage feature a lot.
and YES. the experience of No Mans Sky in VR is surreal. I can't stop playing it lately. I had put it down about a year ago until PSVR2 launched. I have like 40 hrs in Pavlov, Saints and Sinners Retribution AND RE8 Village combined but keep going back to NMS.
I appreciate the reminder. I stumbled upon a freighter and was suddenly laden with responsibility (so i felt) i spent 4 whole days of gameplay organizing and minmaxing my class c freighter only half in the adventurous spirit. Literally as i started watching this video id finished making my freighter into an optimized factory. Admittedly its largely suited to my adhd exploration. So thats what i mean about half in the adventurous spirit.
This is a fine concept, but what I think you are overlooking, is that some people just don't enjoy exploration for exploration's sake. Some people, like me, need some challenge or obstacle to overcome. I hate not optimizing, not working my hardest to succeed and overcome difficulties. I need a purpose for all my activities, not just doing them for just doing them. It's the difference between playing Minecraft creative vs survival.
Hey thank you for your comment, I recommend you don’t play no man’s sky. I’m sure you have seen them already but maybe try satisfactory or factorio, those games are all about optimization!
@@true_cyan9188 Yep, I've already played No Man's Sky, I was just commenting why some people might not like it. It's a great game, but not for everyone.
Superb video that does not just matter for No Man's Sky but most other games too. Humans love to find ways to optimize the fun out of something and gamers are exceptionally well versed at this. Its a rat race and many people are always looking ahead at new releases they want to play which also short changes the current game to get it "completed" before the next New Hotness.
Personally I blame capitalism, but I agree too many people are too concerned with the destination instead of the journey. These are the same people that think that gaming isint as good anymore ://
I agree but I also think the battlepass system that is so popular in games these days has the majority of players cycling through titles they would have stopped playing years ago but are bound in a race to 'complete' the seasons of every game they play before the seasons end. The seasons to one game alone isn't much but to several titles if feels like everybody plays to 'farm completion' and not relax and have fun. Maybe im wrong because I tend to get bored with games that force you to play, no matter how good the game is.
@@fullbeans983 Great point. There is the underlying aspect I think we all seem to be agreeing on: Gamers have been conditioned to seek the Destination and usually end up ignoring most of the Journey in service of getting to that Destination/Power creep McGuffin.
@@fullbeans983 this is an amazing analysis I have had similar thought in the back of my mind but I have never really thought of them like that. They way a lot of games are monetized encouraged “the next thing” and battle passes are no exception to this. Awesome comment!
'Don't repair any damaged tech until you return to your base or your freighter and drive "minute" distance in your colossus' are the only things I would add to your list. Great hot take on enjoying a robust game!
I’m not sure if what you’re saying is a medical issue you have, so I don’t say this to say like “oh everybody”. But I do think a lot of people have dopamine issues in the world today, a lot of people seem to struggle to do things that don’t have an immediate payoff and a high one at that.
C'mon man, 18K likes yet the dude has just over 2K subscribers?? This video alone was gold advice and he's right, you can make like 400 bases man. Experiment and not try to min/max your stress level and kill your dopamine. People like this deserve subs for their well made, well thought out content.
Thanks for the nice comment! This was my first video that did well and it blew up lol so that’s probably why my subscribers are only 2k but to me 2000 people is a lot of people! Certainly more than ever viewed my twitch when I did that lol. Anyway thank you for the nice comment! ❤️
NMS was a huge, but satisfying grind with an interesting and mysterious story and it turned into a photography game to me. Nowadays I wander the universe in search for the next desktop wallpaper. ^^
i hate it becouse doing anything required to grind to be allowed to grind bit more to gring again to be able to grind. Life support critical... every goddamn 5 seconds
@@v44n7 you can’t quit it, but you can skip it if you start a new game. In the custom settings you can disable to tutorial and it puts you on the mission where you unlock the anomaly. I highly recommend it
Very good list. I feel the same. I've put almost 4 years and over 1150+ hours in on 2 platforms (PS5 and Switch) and I'm not even remotely bored. And this all without ever playing the story. (I found the story not interesting enough to hold my attention.) I've build several mold farms, tiny house bases (my favorite) visit other players based, ship hunted, planet explored (I still don't think I discovered all items on a single planet yet so that's a goal to do) I was in this phase where I just played on extreme hazard planets. Then I was obsessed with gathering storm crystals... 🤣😂🤣 And whatever wacky thing I could think of. There is still so much more to do and maybe I might just play the story one day. You have the Void egg quest to look for living ships, weekend missions, guild missions etc. The options are plentiful. And like you said, just play the game as you like. From one traveler to another, this video was spot on.
The story was fun the first time or 2 but now I avoid it I would just much rather do something else lol btw do you know if there is a way to not track any missions? I haven’t found one and it would be nice to not see an object I don’t care about on the bottom right.
Glad to see that other people enjoy the game in the same way I do. I picked it up a week ago, having never played it before or looked into it much, and was instantly hooked by the freedom to explore the universe and gorgeous visuals. There are mysteries to unravel, but it's not very hand-holding after the early tutorial bits. It felt like the game said: "Here's how some core mechanics work, oh also here's a bit of mystery to unravel, if you want, now here's an entire universe - see ya!" Love it. I also felt that someone with a grindset mindset could -easily- spend all of their time optimizing farms, trading and chasing the bag, hoard enough units to form a black hole in their digi-wallet, and completely miss all the fun.Glad to see that other people enjoy the game in the same way I do, which is undoubtedly the best experience.
Some really good points here, but I still think that NMS's biggest problem is the extremely boring campaign, especially the start which is bound to turn away many new players due to it forcing you to put in at least two hours of useless garbage such as building a base on a butt - ugly planet and talking to random uninteresting NPCs. Also the space combat system needs a MAJOR update, all you do is hold down the S key and fire. The spaceship controls also need a rework as they are frustrating at best. I still have around 70 hours on steam and did enjoy the game the ways talked about here though, just think the game is less fun and streamlined than it could be.
these are some of the most valid complaints i have seen! i agree i turn off the tutorial in the custom settings because i think its just annoying and boring especially after the first time. and ya im not really sure how to change the flight controls to make them better but i agree that they dont feel great. i think part of it is "drifting" dosnt really occur and that makes it not as cool because all the other ships beat your turning even when you have upgrades.
I feel like problem in no mans sky is that in games like Minecraft world is unique no matter where you go, but in no mans sky when you land on a planet its pretty much it, youve seen it all, no matter where you go its gonna be the same. I think the problem is that planets and not blocky design like in minecraft make generating unique planets with unique terrain and places is very hard. Some huge companys like rockstar could make no mans sky into perfection. Sorry for bad english if its bad.
lol glad i could help! and ya i had alot of friends that looked up breeding charts and just kinda speedran the game, soo that one didnt last too long lol
Good advice, as other people said, this is advice for other games too. Too many people try to beat a game as fast as possible, some even claiming to finish them that day they came out, which I sure as shit don't believe haha. Anyways, I've logged 410 hrs 53 mins (but who's counting) and lately I am trying to build a castle like base on a hill. I also would love to try to have S class everything, but that seems near impossible. Outside the expeditions, this game is basically have fun at your own leisure.
I love the game, i get lost in it sometimes, but i find myself having a hard time keeping track of what i want to do or what i should do at my current progress. Thanks to this video, i have some fun goals that make me genuinely excited
It’s easy to not really know what to do, I would love if there was an ideas thing on the escape menu that was like “get a living ship” just to remind you about things you havnt done
THEY DEF SHOULD,, I would love some more steam achievements for the game for sure!
This is actually insane. Bravo to your friend for committing to that! It's so fun seeing friends you got into the game get absolutely hooked.
I've been playing since launch and still come across words I don't know. Mega props to your friend.
That’s class. People are so weird and cool 😆
geeez, is it even possible to learn all? I thought at some point the word learning process will start learning repeated things.
This applies to not only NMS but so much in life lol. Try to be in the moment and enjoy what you’re doing instead of always trying to rush to the next thing because once there’s no next thing you’re going to realize you never got to fully enjoy the experience and now it’s over
Perfectly said
"If you're always in a hurry, then you already have one foot in the grave"
100%! Feel the breeze, touch grass and eat some fries. 🎉
But, but, but.... Winning?!?!?
You can plant trees?? Why tf am I playing Starfield
@@nomadicstrengthThey got VR too. Totally different experience. The VR makes it surreal, larger than life. I was gonna check starfield out, but saving my money to buy light no fire from this same developer. Hopefully it drops this year.
Why are there no videos on your channel touring these epic creations of yours?! 😑
the problem with No Man's Sky is that you arent really exploring the galaxy you are just visiting the same planet over and over with a different filter applied.
The journey to an amazing planet is also so nice and satisfying to me!
I love hunting for cool planets
What are you looking for in a perfect planet? You like the colours and oceans? The materials? Creatures? All of that? I've played the game for like 2 hours I still have no idea what I'm doing. xD just following directions given by the game..
This video was fantastic. I have been playing NMS for a few years now, and never really understood why it didn't resonate the same way with my friends, as it did with me. I guess this video really contextualized how I enjoy the game. By just being a curious little traveler.
To reiterate the disclaimer: you can choose to enjoy things however you would like to, or not at all even.
Looking for earth like planets is always a good time
My main issue with exploring planets is once you see the area around where you land, you've seen it all.
Ultimately you'd always go into orbit to travel between biomes and that is functionally almost identical to travelling to new planets.
for real, starfield has more interesting planets. the truth hurts
💯💯💯💯
@@gureguru4694 but starfield hardly has any aliens nor any non earth flora
I scanned a creature once, and it said for notes "Stomach in skull", and another time I saw "Breaths through mouth" Game literally called it a mouth breather.
LMAO the mouth breather line is crazy haha, the stomach in skull is kinda wild, I guess depending on the head structure the food they eat would go straight there so I guess it works?
Crabsquid!
I have fun being an intergalactic salvager. Find a crashed ship, fix it up as much as possible then sell it. It actively makes you explore planets looking for the neccessary resources. If I have some adventures on the way and find a better ship for myself (currently a sentinel class A!) so much the better!
Space mechanic is a very fun profession
how do you find crashed ships?
@alanhepburn446 you go to a cartographer on a space station and get distress signal chart. Load it into your computer and it'll take you to one of a few things. One of those being a crashed spaceship
@@STREETMERCRACES Create a signal booster. Some exo-craft radars can locate downed freighters, ships etc.
Thank you.
Glad I could help, but rushing games is a product of societies obsession with “productivity” so don’t blame your self too much lol
I have a dairy next to a runaway mold farm. It's cool watching the animals interact with the feeder while I'm processing mold.
bro i felt the same way wit bdo (even tho it’s grindy asf) i jus played actually took my time now i have a better understanding of said game
Make sweet bases on planets from Anomaly Missions. More folks are likely to see them, and you'll sometimes get a visitor popping in to look around.
I didn’t think about that, that’s a good idea. It’s like making some art on a busy street!
I always do one if its a quicksilver related Build an Outpost mission and name them FOB: X WHATEVER/DATE.
E.g I'm Irish so the last one I did was on good friday so it's called "FOB: Gek Friday aGRAHment". It's now also my official drop in spot for harvesting milk etc cos I got lucky with creature spawn in the area in hindsight.
if you just hang out at the Anomaly people can use the portal there to visit your bases, you can also do the same.
I always build a pit stop for travelers on the weekend mission planets when I play them. Makes for more fun!
But I still love the exploration and wonder and it keeps bringing me back!😊
For sure, I’m ALWAYS excited for new updates to come and spice things up!
I switched over from Ark and started a permadeth game.
The survival aspect is kind of a joke in comparison.
"Dont just build farms for activated indium"
*and i took that personally*
It’s just such a fun way to play imo!
its so good. you can kinda compare it to sea of thieves. if you play that, do some easy voyages and something happens on the way you build your own little story in the time you spend in the game. i love it
yeah the scanner upgrade is really OP.
Honestly one of my favorite additions to the game was the space walk on your freighters so I can just look at the system around me
Came here to get advice on what I'm doing wrong in the game and found out I'm doing everything right.
I feel like the one of the most important skills someone who plays videogames can have is the ability to adjust one's mindset to enjoy games more fully. It saves you from feeling like you have no games to play while you have a full shelf and loaded steam library full of them.
THIS! I mega agree I can just change how I wanna play and replay so many different games, I mean i once did like 3 skrim runs back to back cause I wanted to do entirely different play throughs, I was in modded vr so that made it easier
this. My adaptation to enjoy nms the best is to play it while simultaneously listening to audiobooks or true crime podcasts
Normally, i play high action games. But i started playing this a few days ago and get so lost in the immersion and lose track of time. I dont engage in alot of combat yet im always blown away by how it captures me and pulls me in so easily. Such an amazing game!
Glad you’re having a great time!
yep. Starfield will be even better
@@data9594This didn't aged well. You think Bethesda is gonna make good games???
@@pixytorres7117 Starfield is a blast. have you played it?
@@data9594 no vr no play!
I didn’t even think about the scanning missions at space stations! Great idea!
I do love being a pirate, maybe it’s not a coincidence that my favorite anime/manga is one piece lol
Having a big frigate fleet actually does serve a purpose. The more frigates you have the more fleet missions you can have active at one time. Unless they changed it recently
A big frigate fleet also looks badass from planetside when you summon your freighter
That’s a good idea with the only freighter jumping!
No understood lock your options, explained please
@@kazz6678
In your settings there is a tab where you can adjust your game‘s difficulty (normal, survival, permadeath, relaxed, creative, custom).
Thank you for your comment, and fr the melee jet pack should be taught in the game because that is essential to me!
So that might save you a lot of time
@@true_cyan9188 Does the custom difficulty still allow you participate in all those community events with all the other people?
Solid name, would eat there!
I'm not into base building, but I play the game since 2017 and I've had so much fun just by scanning every fauna and flora in any planet I may go and naming every single animal, plant or rock.
Sometimes I give them funny names, sometimes I name them something that recalls their description and sometimes I give them random human names.
I do love naming things, I’m only worried my names are not unique enough lol
From the first 3 minutes this video is a breath of fresh air. I've been all about optimizing and min/maxing everything when it comes to games. I'd always liked what I saw from No Man's but would always get burnt out and couldn't put my finger on why. Thank you so much for this video!
Glad I could help!! Enjoy the new update!
Total agree I play every day for about an hour - but I try to do something different each time - improve a base, explore a new planet, fight sentinels, do some trading etc. etc. etc.
Its such a great game to be able to do just about anything you feel like at the time.
Exactly! Always something to do!
Yo u mind helping me build a base
1:26 after some stuff in the story that i won't mention to avoid spoilers there is literally a mission that says something along the lines of "the galaxy is now yours to enjoy".
I do be enjoying the galaxy!
I feel you, easy trap to fall into!
Another tip that might help, go into custom game, put the hardest options available and turn on permadeath, that makes the game 100 times more intense and vivid, it will put you to the test
I will def have to do this!
Thank you whoever you are
Thank you for your comment and your kind words❤️
I'm glad the community is alive and well. I picked this up and having fun just finding planets and new animals :)
It’s a pretty fun time!
I do love that idea! I would really like it if I could have my companions walk around my freighter
I've owned the game since pre-launch and due to some health issues, pure combat can be painful. But I find lots of ways to keep occupied in game. My personal thing is building BNBs on really beautiful planets or unusual ones.
I would love to see some of them!
That sound sick! Keep up the good work soldier!
@@true_cyan9188 Thanks! We just got to Hilbert Dimension and already started off with some issues with the first planet having an infestation 🤣
There are a ton of companies and civilizations like this, sometimes with thousands of people. The nms wiki has a list of them too
How do you do this? Is it an ingame mechanic or are you roleplaying?

Well said man! I just love how chill this game is. Like you said, log in and smell the roses. However, I am a ship hunter and I find doing that is so fun and rewarding. *cheers*
I also love ship hunting I have like 7 sentinel ships right now, they all are just so cool!

I am so envious of playing in vr!
I understand a couple years ago I had a similar problem, all I could do was optimize!
Sometimes the best advice you can get is to just change your perspective. Great video!
Thank you!
one thing I did recently was move to a planet that had a lot of players on it.
Dude that sound awesome!
Nobody can access your storage though
Hi, can you recommend me a good one?
I love your video! I've got over 3000 hours in the game and have done all the things you listed at the end. Here are some other things to do:
Find your own squid ship.
(I did this on my first save, since I prioritized learning all languages when I started playing.)
Find all identifiable rocks, animals, and plants in a system, including unique rocks and plants in underwater caves, etc....
Warp! to the Galactic Hub and make a base in one of the Hub systems. Join other civilizations.
Warp to one of the corners of one of the galaxies. (Each galaxy is shaped kind of like a pizza box and has eight corners!)
Warp along an entire edge of a galaxy.
Play in permadeath at max difficulty. (Ultimately this gets to be as easy as normal, after you learn the game.)
Min/max your suit/a ship/freighter/multitool.
Quite the veterans list! These are all great ideas ima have to do these! Honestly I consistently forget about the bytebeat, maybe I should do that!!
My first like 2 playthroughs I made too much money too fast and fell off shortly after lol
Looking at what people do in the comments and your suggestions in the video, I'm definitely going to start playing No Man's Sky differently than before.
Hope it helps and you have a good time!
Something you didn't mention which really brings more to the game, is the community. The community is incredibly wholesome and welcoming. There's something for everyone. I personally joined the Galactic Hub, which is the largest civilization, and I never got burnt out. Really changed my perspective on the game
The community really does make the game!
@@M-uj2tr Happens more than you think lol
That’s sick, honestly doing it only once sounds sick, I love that you started using exo crafts
It’s actually super easy to get a lot of money in the game, which is why I try not to rush it. It tends to come naturally
I too once had a crazy optimization playthrough, it plays so much better as a space life sim, imo.
Exactly
I did the underwater base! I made an underwater nautilon dock, like the one in Deep Blue Sea where Samuel L. Jackson gets eaten by a shark. (look it up, that movie is crazy, a shark gets stabbed in the eye with a crucifix, and there's a chef with a parrot.)
That sounds like an absolutely insane movie, and a sick ass base. Ima have to do that!
The chef is LL cool J lol
This video just showed up in my feed, and I have to add a number 10: play in VR! Obviously depends on you having the proper setup, and the recent Echoes update included foveated rendering on the PSVR 2 which makes that version the best right now, but no matter the specifics, this game has an incredible sense of scale that you really appreciate in this mode. There's nothing quite like taking off from a planet, and looking to your side as the world first tilts, and then geographic features slowly become smaller until you're in space. It's amazing and I recommend it to everyone.
I WANNA PLAY VR SOOO BAD!!! my index overheats my forehead so I’m scared to play it but one day I will conquer the galaxy in VR!
I was about to say at the start of the video that not everyone likes the same things but you slapped me in the face with that disclaimer. Good video, good editing & good quick-chatting a video where you get what you ask and more in under 6 minutes. Good work.
Thank you for actually watching the video and seeing the disclaimer lol, some other comments did not see that. Thank you for your kind words!!❤️
That’s amazing! Sounds like a great time for your family!
Your ice cream routine is brilliant! 🍧
Excellent tips all around. Here’s one more:
Start a new save often. 👍🏻
i usually only ever smuggle but i sound def try the normal trade goods
The time makes it that much more worth it!
Good advice ❤,its crazy how some people just forget to have fun,it can get real sweaty out there!

The problem is that after a couple hours you've seen all the biomes, all the minerals, all the things that can happen.
I think you underestimate the amount of different biomes there are, I still run into a couple here and there that are new to me
No, you haven’t if you’ve spent a couple hours in more than 255 glaxies, near infinite planets, and seen everything there is to see, you’re either Einstein, or uninformed
One of these days ima learn a whole language
I hadn't played in a few years, and had none of my old save games. My spawn system had a "Barren" water planet, with tons of flora and fauna that show up on large circular land masses (doesn't seem that "barren" to me, lol). Oh, I wish I had more technology to explore oceans better. But hey. We can always come back later on. :D
I'm impressed with the added parts to flora. The flora actually looks much more interesting. :)
The little tidbits of information about flora and fauna were often interesting, and sometimes hilarious.
The world is beautiful, it’s a good view to have.
Ever heard of the four gaming personality types? Killer, Achiever, Socializer, and Explorer. This game is made for Explorers; Killers and Achievers are going to get bored quickly. I'm personally KAES and I get bored pretty quickly.
I have not heard of that, seems interesting
I’m glad you’re having a good time!
This is an underrated video, I don't know how you don't already have a ton of subscribers. See you star-side o/
Thank you for your kind words❤️
For real
Just started playing and accidently got my first freighter. Who knew you get your first freighter free for saving them from pirates.
I have to admit that was pretty cool, figured I would need to grind for ages to afford one.
It’s super helpful to get that first freighter, that multi-million unit price tag is pretty daunting early game
I think every third jump, or a jump after spending X amount of time in a system will always result in a freighter rescure spawn when entering a system. Best part is you don't have to take the first one you save. You can keep jumping and triggering them until you find one you want and then take that as your first free freighter ;)
(Let me preface this by saying I do switch settings around occasionally to alleviate the following points.)
Personally I set everything to creative mode.
Cool video and lots of good suggestions. I'm closing in on 200hrs in VR. Still not bored yet.
Dude how do you play vr? My valve index just cooks my forehead and I get motion sickness because of it, what do you use?
Hey, can you share the cords of a planet at 0:18 in the video? It is so pretty.
If it works for you than that’s all that matters ya know?
@@true_cyan9188 Both these comments are spot on the money lads.
@@fullbeans983
Great point. There is the underlying aspect I think we all seem to be agreeing on:
Gamers have been conditioned to seek the Destination and usually end up ignoring most of the Journey in service of getting to that Destination/Power creep McGuffin.
@@fullbeans983 this is an amazing analysis I have had similar thought in the back of my mind but I have never really thought of them like that. They way a lot of games are monetized encouraged “the next thing” and battle passes are no exception to this. Awesome comment!
The way I enjoy it now is by setting goals for myself that make different aspects of the game more fun or easier.
Goals are a great idea!
We have to play right to play this game? I’ve been playing Skyrim wrong but still enjoyed it,
'Don't repair any damaged tech until you return to your base or your freighter and drive "minute" distance in your colossus' are the only things I would add to your list. Great hot take on enjoying a robust game!
I love adding personal rules like this, really adds some role play elements!
Lol that intro got me. I'm subbing
You know it's hard to enjoy a game when you have low dopamine receptor sensitivity
You can adjust your settings to make the game less “needy” if that’s your problem
i hate that you cant quit the tutorial phase lol
From one traveler to another, this video was spot on.
how do spend 1k+ hours and not finish the story xD its the first thing i did and it was fun. u should give it a shot
The story was fun the first time or 2 but now I avoid it I would just much rather do something else lol btw do you know if there is a way to not track any missions? I haven’t found one and it would be nice to not see an object I don’t care about on the bottom right.
Collecting storm crystals is boring. How about fighting sentinels during a major storm? LOL
Any complaints on the switch version? I'm looking to have it on my xbox and my switch but the switch version is $60.

I’m just a space cowboy really
I would love multi biome planets!!
This is great advice, just fell in love with Palworld and ruined it in a week doing just that.. Staring no man’s sky now I’m glad I saw this.
lol glad i could help! and ya i had alot of friends that looked up breeding charts and just kinda speedran the game, soo that one didnt last too long lol
Bold of you to assume I have friends to race with.
LMAO me too man me too

What a champ
Your advice for NMS is why I fell in love with Ark Survival. I just got this game today, and will follow your advice.
Ark survival is one of my favorite games of all time but man does it have its problems, the biggest one being I can’t get my friends to play it lol
None of these recommendations are fun
🤷♂️ just not for you I guess
Why even post this comment?
When you have a bad pc you cant realy enjoy it
Accurate, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this :/
Good advice, as other people said, this is advice for other games too.
For sure! I also want S class everything but that includes 30 S class frigates and that is TOUGH at least for me
you NOT having FUN in No Mans Sky because you haven't played Starfield yet, after it you will get much more fun from NMS
Because it's purposeless. Because simply exploring becomes very quickly boring, without a purpose.
