  • I went around Southern Colorado a few days this past week testing out the budget friendly, $10 Ozark Trail Wayfarer spinning combo to do a little review on in case anyone was considering picking one up for a kid, or as a light use/spare combo. This video review should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from a setup like this, plus I managed to land some beautiful fish for anyone who's more interested in seeing the catches 🤙

    I've owned the Ozark Trail Wayfarer fishing combo going on two months now and I enjoy fishing with it. Caught a couple of one pound bass on it with the pre-spooled 8 lb line, but I since changed out that line and spooled it with Pro Cat 20 lb braid from Academy Sports. So far, this combo is handling the new line very well with no wind knots, even caught a nice 3 pound bass yesterday on it.

    • @AllmouthBassing
      @AllmouthBassing  Год назад +1

      Nice! I'm honestly a little surprised that tiny little reel is handling 20lbs braid well, but that's awesome. It's definitely a decent little setup for being so cheap 👍

    I got this blue rod mainly for crappie, it's a really nice rod and reel for 10 bucks, it's a pretty good set up. You'de think it's for kids, but it's actually a decent rod, for trout. The reel is nice and smooth, feels good in hand and casts really well.

    I have a couple budget combos. I use them in areas that I’m pretty sure I’m going to slip or fall, places that are pretty rugged. That way I won’t destroy my better combos. I put a decent reel on one of those novelty pen rods and it does pretty good in places where I don’t have much room to work. I like to try out some of the strange or budget combos just for fun. I took my son fishing when he was young and caught an 18 pound catfish on a Batman combo.

    • @AllmouthBassing
      @AllmouthBassing  5 дней назад +1

      It's a great method for covering water with live bait. If you have a worm out on the bottom or floating for a long time with no bites, a lot of the time you'll be able to find one casting around with a jig instead 👍

  • @VespoLiveGaming
    @VespoLiveGaming Год назад

    I picked one of these up for my son- he's outgrown his 5' youth rod, so the 5'6" length works for him- felt real good in my hand, reel is smooth, and feels much more solid than most budget reels- drag doesn't seem to slip like on other cheap reels. I'm a fan of med-light combos with 6lb mono for multispecies- and I've caught some decent sized bass on my longer medlight combo. The pre-spooled 8lb line is trash with too much memory, but I'd rather drop to to 6lb anyway. Will probably take this rod down to the creek for a test run sometime this week. Was really surprised it was so inexpensive. Even if it fails, it's worth it if I even get one year out of it.

    • @AllmouthBassing
      @AllmouthBassing  Год назад

      Nice! Hope it works well for him. I wouldn't go out targeting big catfish or anything with them, but for most casual angling I'd say it should do the job just fine. I don't blame you about the pre-spooled line though. I rarely use pre-spooled stuff even on bigger brand reels/combos.

    • @VespoLiveGaming
      @VespoLiveGaming Год назад

      @@AllmouthBassing Yeah, dumping pre-spooled line isn't even a knock on the product itself- mono doesn't hold up well sitting on a spool in a warehouse for a long time. I've only seen one or two prespooled reels that were in reasonably condition, probably because they weren't sitting on the shelf for long.

    I'm going to buy this tomorrow. I got a pond in my neighborhood that I want to fish. I don't need anything drastic. 10 bucks seems super cheap but if it's good, I'll buy it. I might even go to the little rivers all around my area and fish. I haven't fished in like 20 years.

      @@AllmouthBassing I ended up buying the Ugly Stick GX2 for 50 bucks. I like the fishing pole a lot but it has flown apart a few times when I cast it. It's 4 pieces and everyone in the vids said it's a great fishing rod but no matter how hard I shove the rods together in the holes, it slowly comes out and my whole fishing pole will fly into the water when I cast it.
      I'm thinking about taping the sections together with Gorilla Glue tape so it doesn't fly apart.
      I haven't caught any fish in the pond in my neighborhood but there are turtles everywhere. There is one turtle I was playing with by the dock, he looks like Gamora.. He's massive.. Wild guess he looks like he weighs 100lbs. He looks like a dinosaur and his head and neck was like my forearm.
      There's 2 species of turtles I seen, the regular friendly looking turtles then there are the dinosaur looking ones. The 2 species seem to get along just fine together though.
      That 1 turtle though is the biggest turtle I ever seen. He is like the size of my chest and torso. I live in a residential suburb neighborhood with a pond in it and somehow this turtle lives here. I don't understand how he got in there.
      I'm going to figure out what turtles eat and feed them. I'm thinking they will eat dry dog food possibly.

      I think the price difference has to do with how many more internal parts there are in baitcast reels. If you check out a few Walmarts, you might get lucky & find a 6'6" Shakespeare Durango casting rod for around $10. They're only M/F, so not the most backbone, but they're tough enough to land decent bass with if you're just looking for something on a budget 👍

      The graphite one, you can cast it across a gym into a coffee cup. Problem real world, tired, wind shifting, casting to a coffee cup becomes moot.

      It doesn't make as big of a difference as people think. All fish species secrete epidermal mucus, and it's not ideal for any fish to have it removed, but it's not ideal for them to have hooks in their face either & we don't think much about that. Trout just happen to be a bit more susceptible to fungal growth & disease than many other game species which causes a tendency in anglers who target them to be slightly over protective. The reality is, most trout are going to secrete more mucus to replace whatever is removed before it becomes a problem for them.
