One show I remember that got canceled out of nowhere was "Storm Hawks." It really had a unique world and interesting characters, but toy sales killed it...
Young justice brought its second cancellation on itself after it pussed great stories away in favor of THE MESSAGE! It was so high on its self importance and pretentiousness, fans had enough by the end of season 3.
@leebrown1213 Dude...WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I binged the show and I loved the original 2 seasons. But when they returned for season 3 the shortcomings of those previous 2 seasons became more apparent. The 'Light' , the main villians of the show became a chore to watch due to high and mighty they presented themselves. I was so sick of the Vandal Savage flashbacks, I didn't care at ALL! Then the heroes became the outsiders a divisive group even in the comes as it presented the younger generation of heroes as entitled and ungrateful. Here it's even worse with Beast boy of all people becoming the frontrunner of the message board they thought they were in. That's not Beast boy! After they botched the Judas contract spectacularly, the rest of the show was just BORING! Seriously, entire episodes in s04 revolved around nothing! And the less I talk about Halo the better. Bottom line I judged this show as an adult and I can tell it was a change in direction that ultimately let it fail!
You are incorrect on one issue. The Toy Sales quota was set by the Head of Cartoon Network, Stuart Snyder. He wanted animated shows on Cartoon Network to fail so that he could change over to more profitable Live-action Disney Channel-type scripted shows. He was eventually fired by AT&T when they took over.
I agree with quite a lot of these, but I think some you also should have added Beware the Batman, Looney Tunes Show, Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Close Enough, El Tigre and Tuca & Bertie
Other canceled shows worth checking out: Gendry Tartakovsky's Sym-Bionic Titan (got only one season that ended on a cliffhanger) The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (was clearly setting up for a third season but was canceled in favor of Avengers Assemble) Pirates of Dark Water (was pretty much an animated version of Pirates of the Caribbean long before that franchise set sails)
How is The Owl House not anywhere on this list!? The show was a huge hit for Disney but was cancelled for "not fitting the Disney brand" and they had to condense the final season (along with part of Season 2) into just three 44-minute specials in order to have a complete story. The show had so much more potential but Disney cut it down in its prime.
A show about magic and witches "Not fitting the Disney brand" should put it on the top of shows cancelled for ridiculous reasons. That's just flat out insulting. At least an 80s or 90s show cancelled for poor toy sales makes sense given that 30min commercials were its sole reason for existing.
12:14, We can thank "Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" for bringing back Courage and the rest of the Characters from the old Courage the Cowardly Dog TV Show.
“Young Justice” will never have a “proper ending” because Greg Weisman doesn’t believe in “endings”. Each finale will tie up loose ends, but leave some hanging for the future. That’s how he writes everything.
I believe these are some Honorable Mentions that should also be noted: - Pirates of Dark Water - Wolverine & The X-Men - Teen Titans - Hey Arnold - Megas XLR - ThunderCats(2011) - My Life as a Teenage Robot - Motorcity - Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force GO! - Kick Buttowski - All Grown Up - Sym-Bionic Titan So many cartoons that are much better than some of the cartoons that are being shown today.
I hate how Hot Wheels Acceleracers has been largely forgotten about. The show was brilliantly written, had great character development/drama, action, humor and was rather dark for a show about toy cars........... but it sucks that it was canceled on such a HUGE cliffhanger. Really wish it got more attention as Mattel now finally seems to be taking notice of fans desire for more content these days.
The Owl House was a very good and popular, but it got cancalled because some guy in a suit at Disney didnt like the show. I do hope the show will come back at some point in the future.
It's a shame and unfair Star Wars The Clone Wars got cancelled before its last two seasons. Sure it did lean more towards young adults than kids later on but violence in Star Wars is still tame compared to other media. I am especially bummed about the Son of Dathomir arc not being shown in TV form.
Regarding SWAT Kats, the decision to cancel the series was made by someone else (not Ted Turner). Ted Turner’s comment regarding violent cartoons was referencing shows like Beavis and Butthead (to b fair, the latter made it clear it wasn’t meant for children).
One I think that deserves a reboot is Men In Black the animated series. Along with Starship Troopers the Roughneck Chronicles. Gargoyles would also be a fun idea for a CGI flick similar to the Ninja Turtles, but only if they could get Johnathan Frakes (Xanatos) and Kevin Smith (Goliath) as actors.
@@maxxymrice6200 I do not doubt that there was more that could be told, but where season 2 ended was far more fitting and as the saying goes, leave them wanting more and season 3's weaker showing displayed that the new show runners just was not at the same level as the ones before them. It is just a case of knowing the best time to bow out.
@@Lynxan If they had just left the original showrunners season3 would've been better, possibly even gotten a season 4. The comics prove there was more to tell, Brooklyn's time travel adventures, Goliath's trial, Maggie's baby, etc. I felt Hunter's Moon was more of a turning point and wanted to see more.
The Thundercats reboot should be on here. It was a ratings hit for CN. Got the green light for season 2 so they ended the show on a cliffhanger where Mummra wins. I met Will Friedle (the voice of Lion-O as well as Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond) at DragonCon and he said they had 4 episodes on Season 2 fully scripted when the plug was pulled due to low toy sales.
Another great cartoon that got canceled despite receiving stellar reviews was AMC’s first animated series called Pantheon. Granted, the series isn’t as well known as the shows listed here, and that’s mainly due to poor marketing and availability on AMC+. The series was scrapped entirely, even after completing production for Season 2; and it was all because of a tax write-off.
G.I. Joe: Renegades was definitely building up to an all-out war between G.I. Joe and Cobra since Cobra Commander has now been exposed. It also looked like he was about to seek revenge for his defeat, but it's too bad we couldn't get a proper final battle with him!
In my honest opinion, 2011 Thundercats, deserve a spot in this video, if not just an honorable mention. Hopefully one day I'll a proper return of our heroes.

Missings: Darkwing Duck, DuckTales (2017), The Forgotten Toys, Robotboy, Gawayn, We Bare Bears, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, Elliott from Earth, Victor and Valentino,
Honorable Mention: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was a refreshing change to the usual TMNT format complete with gorgeous animation heavily inspired by anime made by TRIGGER, the studio behind FLCL and Kill La Kill, and an all around labor of love to the franchise by the creators, and Nick had it canceled because apparently, it "wasnt getting enough viewers" when they barely advertised it at all after premiering and only showed it on 10pm, which is when the target audience, children, are oh, you know, ASLEEP!? Not to mention the extremely superficial excuse that it "wasn't selling enough toys", which is a full on bull excuse if I ever heard one. I swear, Nick just keeps canceling and/or screwing over great shows just so they can keep shoving SpongeBob and Loud House down our throats 😠😡 #SAVEROTTMNT
No one's talking about Courage? That show, yes weird and creepy, but that's what made it so good. It was something new to the table. I absolutely loved it
I can’t believe that Thundarr The Barbarian didn’t make the list! It was the highest rated cartoon of its time slot on Saturday mornings, yet it was cancelled part way through its second season. And why? Because the head of the network wanted to make room in the Saturday morning lineup for Lavern & Shirley In The Army! That’s right. They cancelled a show that was a proven ratings success, which also had limited merchandising (a colouring book, a board game, and a lunch box) and was preparing to expand their merchandising efforts to include action figures, and they cancelled it to make room for a show that they HOPED might be a success. SPOILER ALERT!!! It wasn’t as successful or as popular. Lavern & Shirley In The Army was cancelled after their first season and replaced with the Mork & Mindy cartoon (which itself was cancelled after only one season due to poor ratings). And this was right on the cusp of the deregulation of children’s television programming, allowing kids TV shows to be essentially 25 minute commercials for their respective toy lines. Had the network executives kept their noses out of the cartoons for one more season, the Thundarr The Barbarian action figure line would have launched and made the network money hand over fist. With the number of characters introduced in every episode the toy line could have been nearly as successful as Star Wars.
What about Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998) it ended on a sort of cliffhanger where Peter and Madam Web went into the time stream to look for Mary Jane. And Spider-Man Unlimited it never got a second season though several scripts were written and ended on a cliffhanger.
Owl House: "Didn't fit with the Disney Brand" DC Superhero Girls: Low views because Cartoon Network didn't advertise it properly Sonic SATAM: Similar to DCSHG
Shows I miss and want to come back; 15. Gargoyles (this is my number one I want a sequel for) 13. Green Lantern The Animated Series (really hope young justice keeps continues this story) 05. The Spectacular Spider-Man 01. Young Justice (seriously again, Young Justice needs... no... it is entailed to a season 5)
@@maxxymrice6200 Rumours have it they're planning a live action reboot... god I hope not... they have f-up so much in the past, I don't want to see them f-up Gargoyles too... just the thought of the butcher job they'll do to Elisa to make her "modern" terrifies me beyond words. As for Gargoyles becoming a franchises back in the 90s, I could've seen that happening, with the New Olympians episode and Dingo's redemption with Legion, the same way batman the animated series open the way for Superman, Justice League, Batman Beyond and etc.
@@B_Leo86 They got new execs who cancelled it and have continued to shelf it. To this day it still has so much potential as a franchise.
Wow.
Star wars the clone wars was cancelled because they wanna focus on Star wars rebels. But im glad we got a satisfied ending in 2020.
Oh.
I agree with quite a lot of these, but I think some you also should have added Beware the Batman, Looney Tunes Show, Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Close Enough, El Tigre and Tuca & Bertie
Other canceled shows worth checking out:
Gendry Tartakovsky's Sym-Bionic Titan (got only one season that ended on a cliffhanger)
The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (was clearly setting up for a third season but was canceled in favor of Avengers Assemble)
Pirates of Dark Water (was pretty much an animated version of Pirates of the Caribbean long before that franchise set sails)
I'm still furious about the cancelation of Final Space!
I Agree With You @j-trainthomason4433
A show about magic and witches "Not fitting the Disney brand" should put it on the top of shows cancelled for ridiculous reasons. That's just flat out insulting. At least an 80s or 90s show cancelled for poor toy sales makes sense given that 30min commercials were its sole reason for existing.
you forgot:
Infinity Train
Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart
Close Enough
12:14, We can thank "Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo meets Courage the Cowardly Dog" for bringing back Courage and the rest of the Characters from the old Courage the Cowardly Dog TV Show.
I found that movie online!
@@mojo3318 You know its still out on DVD since 2021, right?
Just wanted to make sure you knew that.
I'm still hoping for the renewal of "The spectacular spider-man" and for "Young Justice" to have a proper ending.
“Young Justice” will never have a “proper ending” because Greg Weisman doesn’t believe in “endings”. Each finale will tie up loose ends, but leave some hanging for the future. That’s how he writes everything.
SWAT Kats was awesome, I and I think its cancellation was unwarranted. Luckily, the show still holds up today.
I hope they decide about uncancelling young justice for fifth season
Justice for Invader Zim. We want another season 🥺💚
I believe these are some Honorable Mentions that should also be noted:
- Pirates of Dark Water
- Wolverine & The X-Men
- Teen Titans
- Hey Arnold
- Megas XLR
- ThunderCats(2011)
- My Life as a Teenage Robot
- Motorcity
- Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force GO!
- Kick Buttowski
- All Grown Up
- Sym-Bionic Titan
So many cartoons that are much better than some of the cartoons that are being shown today.
Pirates of dark water was awesome
So many good cartoons got canceled
I hate how Hot Wheels Acceleracers has been largely forgotten about. The show was brilliantly written, had great character development/drama, action, humor and was rather dark for a show about toy cars........... but it sucks that it was canceled on such a HUGE cliffhanger. Really wish it got more attention as Mattel now finally seems to be taking notice of fans desire for more content these days.
Thundercats 2011 deserves a spot on this list. It was a damn good show that got cancelled right at a cliffhanger.
Definitely Deserves Better
One day we all can hope that Young Justice will be allowed to continue despite the ultra dumb decision to cancel it!😮😥🤬
I think invader Zim got canceled because jhonen Vasquez mentioned something from Johnny the homicidal maniac on the episode of a room with moose
The Owl House was a very good and popular, but it got cancalled because some guy in a suit at Disney didnt like the show. I do hope the show will come back at some point in the future.
I Totally Agree With You @zoltanvarga3484
It's a shame and unfair Star Wars The Clone Wars got cancelled before its last two seasons. Sure it did lean more towards young adults than kids later on but violence in Star Wars is still tame compared to other media. I am especially bummed about the Son of Dathomir arc not being shown in TV form.
Regarding SWAT Kats, the decision to cancel the series was made by someone else (not Ted Turner). Ted Turner’s comment regarding violent cartoons was referencing shows like Beavis and Butthead (to b fair, the latter made it clear it wasn’t meant for children).
Gargoyles, the spectacular Spider-Man, Danny phantom, and Young Justice
You forgot The Owl House. It got canceled because Disney said it wasn't thier type of show but real fans know why
Actually, if I remember correctly, it was Keith David that was Goliath not Kevin Smith.
@@glennboyce7753 yea you're correct its Keith David.
@@glennboyce7753 Thanks for the correction! Still would be cool.
@@wschnabel1987 True that would be cool for any/all shows that you mentioned.
Static Shock had exceptional ratings, but was canceled because it didn't have any merch.
With Gargoyles, I kind of was happy where it left off with season 2. Season 3, while I never hated it like many, always just felt like extras.
The comics prove it should've lasted longer
Frisky Dingo (2006-2008) I Loved This Show back when I first saw It In 2007 the reason I gotten cancelled was ridiculous In my opinion
uh the company who made it wen bankrupt how is that ridiculous as far as I know cn didn't own the show they just showed it
Another great cartoon that got canceled despite receiving stellar reviews was AMC’s first animated series called Pantheon. Granted, the series isn’t as well known as the shows listed here, and that’s mainly due to poor marketing and availability on AMC+. The series was scrapped entirely, even after completing production for Season 2; and it was all because of a tax write-off.
Underrated masterpiece!
How dare they cancel young justice not once but three times already.
Huh?
G.I. Joe: Renegades was definitely building up to an all-out war between G.I. Joe and Cobra since Cobra Commander has now been exposed. It also looked like he was about to seek revenge for his defeat, but it's too bad we couldn't get a proper final battle with him!
The truth is Fox cancelled Futurama because they only wanted The Simpsons, despite it's declining quality.
Oh.
The Simpsons sucks, Futurama is one of the best shows ever.
They canceled Young Justice in favor of Teen Titans Go. No wonder Cartoon Network is in the toilet
Spiderman 1994 was brilliant
Still miss Final Space, canceled for a tax write off. At least we'll got the graphic novel to look forward to in end of 2024
In my honest opinion, 2011 Thundercats, deserve a spot in this video, if not just an honorable mention.
Hopefully one day I'll a proper return of our heroes.
WOW Now That’s An Awesome Video Of The “Top 20 Cartoons That Were Cancelled For Ridiculous Reason” Great Job & Honestly I Really Missed Those TV Shows “Mega Man: Fully Charged, Transformers: Animated, The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, Samurai Jack, Gargoyles, The Pinky And The Brain, Kim Possible, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Animaniacs (1993), Courage The Cowardly Dog, Invader Zim, Danny Phantom, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, & Young Justice” So Much :,-(
Missings: Darkwing Duck, DuckTales (2017), The Forgotten Toys, Robotboy, Gawayn, We Bare Bears, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, Elliott from Earth, Victor and Valentino,
How about an honorable mention for "Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes"? Tossed aside for an inferior reboot more aligned with the MCU.
Still angry over that
Honorable Mention: Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
I'm a big fan of Tron: Uprising and unrealistically holding on to hope of a reboot/revival. The passing of Paul Reubens makes that even more unlikely.
Greg wiseman has the worst luck with his great shows.
These shows deserved better
Without a doubt
Bot
@@StanHalen1936 I'm not a bot
Especially Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) and SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron. Not to mention Sonic Underground.
No one's talking about Courage? That show, yes weird and creepy, but that's what made it so good. It was something new to the table. I absolutely loved it
1:30, I still own a VHS Copy of Swat Katz that contains only 2 EPisode, plus a Space Ghost Bonus Cartoon, too
Will never forgive em for doing teen titans, tron: uprising, and especially young justice like that🤦🏽♂️
I can’t believe that Thundarr The Barbarian didn’t make the list!
Adult Swim should take Thundarr and reimagine it for a more adult audience.
@@steventaylor6212 I’d totally watch that!
I still need another season of Young Justice. They left us in a cliffhanger again.
I’m watching Clones Wars right now. It’s mad dope.
The clone wars was a good cartoon series and so unfair for it to be cancelled
And I absolutely love The Clone Wars.
That show truly defined my childhood and made it 10X even better.
At least it came back but I wish those unfinished episodes had the chance to be finished and aired
Wait which Clone Wars series the 2008 one or 2003? I heard from people on Reddit that the 2003 series was better
When will they understand that a lot of adults watch cartoons? And we adults don't like wasting money on toys.🙄
I loved Gargoyles! I was in love with Lexington!🥰
Umm yall left out Wolverine and the Xmen and Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes 🙄
The rights of Spiderman still belong to Sony and when Spectacular Spiderman aired after Marvel sold it off to them
Really going to miss Green Lantern ;-; What a great show it was shaping up to be
Dungeons & Dragons cartoon was also canceled without a proper ending
What about Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998) it ended on a sort of cliffhanger where Peter and Madam Web went into the time stream to look for Mary Jane. And Spider-Man Unlimited it never got a second season though several scripts were written and ended on a cliffhanger.
Sym Bionic Titan was canceled for a lack of a toy line despite Cartoon Network was banking on Ben 10 merchandise.
More Young justice!!!!!!!!
Owl House: "Didn't fit with the Disney Brand"
DC Superhero Girls: Low views because Cartoon Network didn't advertise it properly
Sonic SATAM: Similar to DCSHG
i watched courage the cowardly dog and personally for me it wasn't a scary cartoon but more a weird one . But a good weird cartoon .
Shows I miss and want to come back;
15. Gargoyles (this is my number one I want a sequel for)
13. Green Lantern The Animated Series (really hope young justice keeps continues this story)
05. The Spectacular Spider-Man
01. Young Justice (seriously again, Young Justice needs... no... it is entailed to a season 5)
Gargoyles was supposed to be a franchise, but they cancelled it. Its remarkable Disney hasn't brought it back in anyway.
@@maxxymrice6200 God let's hope they don't considering there track record they'd just screw it up.
To be fair they should've made a live action film and two more animated shows already. I would be much happier if they had done those already instead of a live action tv show. Elisa was an independent Mary Sue of color, so she was ahead of her time.
