    Thanks for the look in the box guys. I think the best starter sets are almost like board games,ie they have all you need to play a game and its up to you whether you want to invest more or not.

      Totally. I like think they need to start adding playmat with them these days.

    I bought one of these starter boxes in February - I thought it was a great value beginner set, and I really enjoyed building and painting it all up as it my first foray into WW2 wargaming. I got one game played before the first lockdown and had a blast. I've subsequently ended up with 8 different armies and more scenery than I know what to do with...

      @@ModellingforAdvantage Yeah - a one man escalation! I couldn't just leave it with Heer and Airbourne - the collector part of my brain went into overdrive and now I can recreate pretty much any late war scenario... Not got into the early war stuff (yet). I have to say, your Bolt Action battle reports have helped inspire me - keep up the good work!

    By the way the colors of the order dice are random and pin markers can be either the red or helmet pin markers.

    I got two BoB sets and ended up with 2 ever so slightly different shades of gray dice for ze Germans and jungle green and sand for the Americans. On top of the two dice packs i picked up that also didn't match what I thought I had in the box...now i have like 3 shades of army dude green for one side and a few shades of army dude gray for the other. haha. I like those blue ones you got in your box as well haha.
    I bought one BoB set at my FLGS at regular price and then found another complete and unassembled set on ebay a week later for only $40. What is interesting is the actual plastic between the two sets seems slightly different too in both color and softness if that makes sense. The lighter colored plastic also seems older than the darker colored one, almost like the plastic they use changed somewhere along the way.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  3 года назад +1

      Interesting point about the plastic. I have had some odd coloured bases from Warlord, but not figures.

    Always enjoy your unboxings. Fun to hear your take. I’m not real keen on this box for beginners. It doesn’t seem like the points between factions match if you built everything as is in the box. Also, the biggest thing for me is the 5 order dice. So you have to buy a full pack of order dice if you plan to expand your army. So it ultimately limits the value. The models are great, but I feel like warlord had some better values for people who wish to get started in BA

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  3 года назад +2

      It is definitely a box for total beginners, a lot of the value is in things most people would not need. That said, if you you are at the very start of the journey - it gets you out of the gate.

    • @mattcappelli5822
      @mattcappelli5822 3 года назад +2

      @@ModellingforAdvantage absolutely. Just stinks that it doesn’t have enough order dice if you have any intention to expand. So having to buy another pack really cuts into the value of this set. I know it would be more expensive, but I’d like to see warlord have a set that gives a full infantry box, all the accessories, and full set of order dice. But that’s just me.

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  3 года назад +1

      @@mattcappelli5822 yeah, something for total beginners and something for expanding players.

    my father . as young boy with his mates lived in a small village near southampton ( one of the staging areas . prior to Dday ) the americans and their trucks were all hidden in woods and under the road side trees ...... the only thing that was coveted . apart from sweets , that were given freely WAS THE MACHETTE that every truck had in its inside door pannel .... needles to say they didn't get one .... he was still very disapointed even when into his 80s

    Hi guys I have just decided to get into bolt action , I have gone for the 8th army and Africa corps as starter sets . Now I'm wondering if I should have started with the band of brothers box

    • @ModellingforAdvantage
      @ModellingforAdvantage  3 года назад

      It sure is a great little game. If you need the rules, tokens and stuff you will still get a lot of value out of the box. Sure you can't use the infantry sprues, well you can kitbash the german ones with your Afrika Korps probably. You can use the 251, but a lot of the value is tied up in the rules and such anyway. The little bit of scenery is pretty versatile too.

      @@ModellingforAdvantage I know right... basic furniture of the last thirty or so years seems to be of the "short lifespan" sort compared to the common furnishings of a century ago. We still retain much of the custom hardwood furniture passed down from the family through the generations. This stuff lasts for all eternity so long as maintained and yet it was common furniture in the late 1800's. Wouldn't change it out for any of the new furniture iterations. I tried to install "new generation" shelves... they literally buckled under the weight of my tome collection. :/
