'These paints come in really good little dropper bottles' - shots fired
Lmfao truth
Howling lol
I don't know why GW still hasn't opted for dropper bottles. Oh wait... They want us to spill our paint, or they want it to dry faster, so we buy more of it, you say? No, that wouldn't happen. Never.
god i love those dropper bottles
I prefer using washes and contrast out of the pot usually unless I thin them down so I think pots are better for those, but yeah everything else being in dropper bottles would be awesome, ESPECIALLY the air paints
When you're used to a universe where "brushed steel covered in skulls" qualifies as subtle, seeing someone paint a model 15 different shades of greyish brown is kind of a trip.
ProjectThunderclaw I learnt quickly that painting WW2 models is mostly just “hmmm needs more brown.”
@@synovialpig9983 my experience is having 15 different shades of khaki/camouflage beige/grey green, and finding that i still don't have the right shade and that references show the actual shade was completely inconsistent in real life anyway
"if you're brave and your mouth is open"
Oh Duncan, only when watching you
Saucy.
Ohhh myyyy....
Hey Bricky! How goes painting the 3000pt Imp Guard Army?
We need every space marine chapter: explained
DUNCAN MIXING COLORS! This is by far the most unexpected development of 2020 so far!
Duncan is God because he doesn't need to mix colors ... I'm afraid 🙈
Makes me so happy Duncan is spreading out to cover all ranges of miniatures.
It almost seems odd to see you covering miniatures from other companies and game systems... that being said, I thoroughly enjoy it. Congratulations Duncan and good luck!
@CemtecUk
Are you dumb? he is literally complementing him
But he doesn’t work for GW anymore...
@@CrimsonTemplar2 Yes I am aware.
@@noahdefrancisco2911 I think some of these people got confused and drank the paint instead of painting with it
@@bobsickle2336 I think that may be the case. All confusions aside I meant it as a compliment only. I love seeing Duncan cover miniatures I myself enjoy alongside Warhammer.
Duncan LIVES!
*STOMP STOMP*
Duncan LIVES!
*STOMP STOMP*
Look we’re all happy he’s back but you can’t do this EVERY TIME HE UPLOADS
@@queencyrys6309 Salamanders do this every time when Vulkan lives, I do this every time Duncan lives.
Both primarchs earned their glory
Damn it! I was just about to comment this 😣
Really dig the log cabin vibe.
Love seeing someone on RUclips actually painting models instead of making gimmicky vids to feed the algorithm. Hope you do well for youself!
I think he needs to start his videos reclining in an armchair next to a fireplace.
@@landotucker OMG you are so right
This is amazing! I've been hoping for a historical mini painting tutorial since the new channel launched - thank you Duncan and Roger!
Our pleasure Andrew. Glad you liked it.
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA I most certainly did!
And I love the real opinion on which brushes and paints you prefer when all are an option and there is no conflicting interest. I was always curious which brush and paint was best for which task of all available.
Sista: she is ready to kill the xenos for the holy emperor!
Stormtrooper: ready to kill the filthy rebels!
2nd ww. german soldier: ready to kill the... for the Füh... uhm... ready for battle...
:D
😂
OH MY GOD HES USING VALLEJO! Quality!
Great video; really made my day seeing this.
Also, handy hint for any Early/Mid-War German collectors using Citadel paints; Stormvermin Fur is dead-on PERFECT for German Feldgrau uniforms. If you have one of the spray-cans (which they don't make or sell anymore, sadly) you can have an army half-basecoated in a few blasts, and you can mix-and-match with Athonian Camoshade, Agrax and Nuln Oil to give the uniforms the kind of tonal and material variety they had later on in the war.
Dude I just discovered this. Vallejo field grey is too green for my taste. Stormvermin fur is just right for getting olive grey color, IMHO.
Hero. I'm a bit loathe to go out and buy a bunch of Vallejo paints when I have nearly a full Citadel paintbox, so knowing what to swap in is a godsend :D
Oh i liked how you added texture to the jacket. This is something i've not thought about before
"For you, ze warhammer is over."
I've just realised there's a world of minis outside of GW so it's great to see painting guides on different manufacturers. I'm loaded up on Napoleonic line infantry now.
Been looking at getting into Bolt Action recently, so this guide couldn't have come at a better time. Keep up the fantastic work, Duncan!
I don't even collect historical miniatures but I love watching duncan paint stuff. Always relaxing and informative.
I love that you’ve added the paints used into the description! Keep it up guys!
I'm actually impressed and happy to see you are painting to more than just tabletop GW standard. This model looks awesome.
I only just activated notifications for this channel 15 minutes ago. Good timing. Thanks for another amazing video
Thanks IronSquid501, we really appreciate your support :-)
Excellent stuff, as always Duncan. Nice to see some period minis being covered and the addition of Vallejo paints to the painting arsenal. Great tutorial and a lovely finish to the mini. Thank you 🙂
It’s so good to see you doing stuff away from GW & using different paint manufacturers.
Just what I needed, just picked up a box of German Grenadiers and the Bolt Action Starter set and looking forward to painting them even more now. Great job!
First time I’ve ventured into different miniatures. This video has given me an element of familiarity, a calming voice in a new world. Thank you!!!
I just recently got into Bolt Action/Konflikt '47 Germans and so this video is super helpful - and naturally, a notch above comparable tutorials for Grenadiers!
Absolutely amazing to see you painting other stuff than GW's products. I really enjoy it.
Also ( and for me thats very important ): You got the colour of the breadbag historically 100% accurate! Most painters paint them in beige, but that wouldn't be correct, so cheers to you right there!
Great video, great tutorial!
Looking forward to mor of your videos!
Cheers & greeting from Germany.
I can't imagine myself doing this with each single one of my 60 fire warriors or cadian dudes...so good for you all that have this level of patience and dedication to the hobby.
Also, loved the camo
That blue-ish “flesh” there early on made me think he was painting a Rogue Trooper, lol
I really want GI miniatures, it would be pretty cool
Love seeing a more in depth version of the old vids
That looks really good. I like seeing the tutorials for miniatures from different game systems, even if I don't play them yet. Thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial. I especially liked how you walked us through adding extra texture to the jacket. Cheers!
Love seeing these videos! Grew up watching your Tutorials and love every one of them!
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it yet, but every soldier was issued with a zeltbahn segment, that individually was used as a poncho, but three segments made a small tent. Keep up the awesome tutorials. I've been painting minis for the last 30 years or so, and I'm still picking up tips from these. You never stop learning! =)
Excellent tutorial as usual. For anyone interested - these techniques also work very well on the larger counterparts in the 1/35 realm. Thanks again for a great tut!
Really enjoying the diversification of your subject matter and paint ranges Duncan. I think most hobbyists out here in the wilds use a hybrid of colours and pigments from various manufacturers and it's refreshing to see your "two thin coats" style tutorials embrace this hobby truth now that you are no longer beholden to the Citadel product line. I salute you sir.
Thanks irrational gaz :-)
Yay! More Bolt Action please!
Amazing Duncan and team - loving the channel keep up the amazing work
incredible, I love that you are back Duncan, there is something missing from sigmar, but I love everything you post, congratulations
Once again, thank you very much, guys! Your tutorials were the thing that showed me that i also can paint and do it well. Your comeback is one of the greatest things that happened to youtube in recent times! Would love to see you paint some Malifaux and I would greatly appreciate some advanced techniques for metal) Thatnk you very much for returning!
I LOVE the using a plate to mix your paints on. I have SO many fond memories from my 45+ years of using plates to do this, from my early days using Airfix enamel paints to the wonderful acrylic paints I use today. Unfortunately, using the "best China" from the display cabinet wasn't exactly received with enthusiasm by my mum when I first started, so I soon learned to use the old, chipped, everyday plates instead. Now I us a wet palette as well as plates, depending on what I'm painting. SO good to see you diverge from the usual GW stuff, even though I love those videos too. I haven't seen many of your non-GW videos, so am having some serious fun catching up on them, and learning all the way :-D
Now you talking, nice to see you doing historical stuff and showing us how to get those shades right. Thanks Duncan.
This is perfect. All the different paints chosen for best fit.
That's the idea Effete :-)
I really enjoy this new direction, Duncan.
You make it look so easy your brush strokes are Nice and steady with no swaying or shackling Brush Master you defiantly are
Great to see you doing historical miniatures!
Thank you. That was absolutely by far the best tutorial I have seen for late war Germans. Sadly I cant go back and repaint 30 Grenadiers, but I definitely will apply this to the next 30!
Great tutorial, this chap just makes it so easy and flow so well. Great stuff
Perfectly timed sir. I have recently been stockpiling bolt action minis that require paint. Excellent video
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Always been a big fan of your approach to painting. I really like the miniature too.
They're a great range Jordan, fun game too.
Cool, I am painting warlord ww2 U.S. infantry. Interesting to find out that there were two main uniform pant colours brown or green, green being standard issue some time after the war started. Can't believe I am seeing Duncan paint my ww2 minis!
More bolt action content! Love this game system
Oh master of the thin coat! Great job, as always 👍🏻 Thank you for all the superb tutorials and best wishes. ( subscribed, obviously)
Congratulations on the launch of the painting academy! Once I get everything sorted financially due to this pandemic I’ll be subscribing straight away! As a beginner I’m so excited for this! #hobbyhero
Great tutorial as always! Hoping to see much more bolt action and Star Wars legion painting!
Three years! Wow! Going strong Duncan!
Отличное видео, Дункан!
Приятно видеть, как расширяется твой арсенал красок и область их применения) )
Как говорится, не вахой единой!
The model looks great and I learned a lot about painting the zeltbahn. Thanks for sharing this'
Glad we could help John.
Thanks for making social isolation more fun, you're doing a great service!
OH YES! This is gonna be awesome
I really loved this tutorial. It may not be your favorite genre, but I'd love to see more guides like this for Bolt Action and other historical wargames [but mainly Bolt Action!] Thanks.
I like how the first few videos show a variety of Mini manufacturers :)
What a wonderful teacher you are, Sir.
To me this is modern day bob ross
So true
Oh, yeah! Videos comes fast with, as always, highest quality!
Wow one of the best channels for painting, thank you!
Thank you so much 😀
GW Execs suddenly realize exactly how many supplies Duncan took with him on the way out...
Great work as always Duncan. Best wishes in your new endeavor.
Nah, you'll notice he doesn't use very many GW colors or brushes. For obvious reasons.
Wow.
A very well explained video.
Fantastic stuff, hope you do more bolt action
Good video, and rotation of the model at the end. You listen to our feedback. Thx a lot for that!
Man you make it look so simple, I feel fired up now to paint my German platoon for chain of command 💪
Love how Duncan slowly went to introducing newer not citadel stuff further into his videos
Amazing. Please don’t stop making videos like these
We won't :-)
This is exactly what I need. Well done.
Ok now you got me exited for your channel specially sense I’m a military history fan even more then a warhammer fan
Great job. I hope to see more videos
Painting tutorial master? Yes! Good job!
Outrageously well painted!
Thank you Ian :-)
Great as always, Duncan, and now we can actually praise you in the comments!
Do flektarn or plane tree camo next, please!
We''ll add that to our ever-growing list :-)
Awesome work!
An excellent technique for painting a german granadier!
Stunning job!
Thanks Thedarkone 2
Wow awesome job!!!!
Best 28 mm historical minature I have seen painted.
this is obviously utterly incredible, but the idea of painting every single lad in my army to this level of detail makes me feel a bit queasy lol. amazing work
It doesn't take long once you get the hang of it - especially with a batch painting technique. Do 5 guys at a time - paint the field grey on each, then on to the khaki etc. Especially helpful with washes because then you are not literally watching paint dry.
Absolute legend
Thank you this was actualy so helpful for the wargames I've bean doing recently
No problem Luke, glad we could help :-)
Thank you guys, fantastic job and very helpful
Our pleasure 😊
Nicely done.
Fantastic video! Surprisingly complex paintjob for such a small miniature but oh holy emperor the result!
Great video hopefully you will post some for your napoleonic stuff some time! Cant wait for more! Keep it up!
We shot one last week for our site😉 with many more planned...
Great video. Listening to your voice is pretty relaxing.
Hello. I'm a first time viewer and a WWII 28mm fan... Both the presentation and technique here are first class. I'd call the result as 'high-quality-tabletop' but very much on the higher end. (Indeed it would take only the smallest detailed effort to 'showcase' this miniature. ) The presentation and illustration of colour choice/technique/method is really well done and in a manner that's friendly and informative. An excellent tutorial in every way. xx SF
Nice one Duncan as if Old Tommy didn't see enough of these gits!
I play flames of war so this is perfect for my panzergrens! Good to see you unshackled and using other paints.
I would love to see some tips on brush care!
I second this, perhaps together with a guide to brushes in general? I know for a fact that you get cheaper, non hobby-branded brushes while having better quality at the same time.
Me too!
Judgeharm I use The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver, amazing stuff from Amazon or all good stockist, it’s also a decent price !
yeah same. if he could cover how textures effect bristles, how to properly rinse and clean brushes, proper brushstroke technique.. it would be really helpful for newer painters and is always a nice reminder if you're experienced
Amazing!
Finally, some good looking Bolt Action. I really thought these minis are potatoes, but they are actually well sculpted
Yes! Love my German heer grenadiers, and love my Duncan tutorials!

It's like you read my mind. Just this weekend I had decided to take a break from my dark eldar and was about to start some WWII figures.
Great video, would love to see more bolt action stuff like british parras
