I bet he would have a hard time selling an Artic Air commercial refrigerator to Sarah Palin. I also bet he couldn't sell a lifetime supply of Clearasil to Betty White. Sugar coated medicine is simple to sell, but try getting Sarah to bring the frozen steaks in from the snow drift is a hard sell.

Bob Smith was the REAL salesman on "HOWDY DOODY" (even though Howdy was usually close by to echo "Buffalo Bob's" pitches); like Arthur Godfrey, he had a sincerity and gentleness that could sell ANY product. That's why advertising time for the show was often sold out for years in advance...

Is the Luden's commercial from the late 1970s on You Tube? This commercial has a News Stand operator, with a gruff voice singing, " You can have great taste - Great tasting Taste - with Luden's ".
