Warms my heart at 68 to see my favorite show as a child. I wish the resolution were better. Thank you for putting it out for me to see and share with my grandchildren.
Never watched this Howdy Doody show. Main reason was I was born in 1954, so by the time I was aware it was on, it was gone. I did watch its replacement, The Shari Lewis Show.
I believe that the "General Custer" guy is William Shatner. He mentions in his autobiography that he appeared on the show as another character but this seems to be him as well. Pay close attention to the hand gestures and voice....
He was my favorite dude. He was always "aware" in the show and his acting was ahead of his time. He was more like a character easily from the '70's or '80's, and really timeless. He would easily fit in today.
By the time this episode aired, Judy Tyler, who played "Princess SummerFallWinterSpring", had left the series (she only appeared on it between 1951 and 1954). Tragically, after filming "Jailhouse Rock" with Elvis Preseley, she died, with her husband, in an automobile accident in July 1957.
It was a GREAT SHOW for kids...A few characters on the show not mentioned: Dilly Dally, Howdy's sister who was not on the show very often was Heidi Doody, Flub-aDub, and the other Indian Chief, Chief Thunder Chicken. Howdy Doody himself is now in the presence of Buffalo Bob's Estate. The Back-up puppet which was on the show from time to time is in the Smithsonian Institute . Another Howdy Doody Puppet which was only present at autograph sessions was sold at auction.
@@justintahair9119 well I am 13 and I used to see these reruns on tv when I was younger. I don't think you guys are crazy. Inside I am as old as you all. I love howdy doody so much that I'm watching it now.
Boy, you must have a hell of a life now. Sure some clowns were creepy, but Clarabel was fun. And so was the whole show, especially Princess Summerfallwinterspring.
I remember how excited I was when the Howdy Doody show 'moved" from New York to Burbank Studios (to celebrate the opening of the new color studios in Burbank). I figured Howdy was in California to stay! I remember how disappointed I was when they left Bubank and returned to New York -- without giving me a chance to be in the peanut gallery! Years later, when I was a writer on Laugh-In, I met Bob Smith and shook hands with Howdy Doody. Google search "rowby videos" for that photo! ...Rowby
that's funny, i never heard of kids in the 50s putting down howdy doody. was it a matter of some first-graders thinking they were too grown-up for howdy doody? did the show tend to attract younger children?
Something to consider - Las Vegas didn't exist until the 1960s. Refrigeration in the 1940s dried out food and caused frost to form on the food, because the cooling wasn't consistent and there was no humidifier. Half the population in USA had ice boxes instead. Air lines were brand new, but no jumbo jets. More dangerous back then.

This was the number one show for children in the 1950s.Brings back great memories. Thanks to all.
I'm fortunate to have grown up with the innocence of Howdy Doody.
Ditto
Look at all those baby boomers! More kids born every year than the world had ever seen at one time. And we still are influencing history.
Thank this guy for saving these videos !!!

I watched both! Gonna see lambchop again on U tube !
That "chief's" name was Chief Thunderthud, I think. You can hear him say, "Kawabunga!" which is where Bart Simpson got his expression.
He also looks like Hank Azaria who voices characters on the Simpsons
Let’s not forget Ninja Turtles
@@juantarango5142 And the Cookie Monster
if Apu is under attack, imagine an American Indian. cowabunga. I loved this show.

Thunderthud the Indian chief was saying "Cowabunga" during each show, this was long before TMNT.

This howdy doody song goes to my head every time I get in a silly mood
That's probably Bob - Mr. Kangaroo - Keeshin as Clarabelle.

Howdy doodies from this era still run the world...
This proofs that not even children were scared of clowns. Seriously America put your shit together.
Well if they knew about John Wayne Gacy, then... y'know.
King Kong was said to have sent some people screaming out of the theater.

That General Custer guy sounds exactly like Brian Doyle Murray!

@strudel89 It was French-Canadian actor Bill LeCornec.
I love the golden age of television, but this looks like straight up garbage, I guess I had to be there.
I thought Howdy Doody was a ventriloquist dummy.
Faegir Volva He was a marionette, a puppet with strings
That's cool.
Chief Thunderthud was played by Bill LeCornec.
What was Phineas T.
Bluster's evil brother"s name.....anybody?
Wasn't he evil enough? He had a brother? This I don't remember.
No brother
