  • What a great program! Judy Tyler (princess) turned 20 eight days after this show was aired. Judy and her husband, Greg Lafayette, were killed in a car accident on July 3, 1957 (age 24) near Rock River, Wyoming. Judy had just finished the film, "Jailhouse Rock", She co-starred with Elvis.

    'Ah, good ol' Doodyville, with Buffalo Bob exhorting all the kids to tell their parents to get out and vote. Takes me back to my childhood. Thanks for posting!

    The story of lovely and wonderful Judy Tyler is one of sadder ones in entertainment. Too young and beautiful to have been taken so tragically at such a tender age (24) and after completing just two movies ("Bop Girl Goes Calypso" and "Jailhouse Rock") which she never got to see in their final forms.

    Howdy Doody, Buffalo Bob, Chief Thunder Thud, Princess Summe-Fall-Winter-Spring, Mr. Bluster, Dilly Dally, Flubbadub, and Clarabell - did i miss anyone from 1956-'58? :}

    Thank you for presenting Howdy Doody on NBC-TV for October 1, 1952. It's not hard to spot the main characters of the show, including Buffalo Bob Smith, Howdy, and Clarabell the Clown. However, I do have a soft spot for Judy Tyler (Princess Summerfall Winterspring). It's hard to look at her and not think of the July 3, 1957 car crash that killed her and her newlywed husband, Greg Lafayette. Just imagine how her career in television and movies would have gone if she hadn't passed so young with her life ahead of her. She had plenty of promise.

    Shortly after this episode,in December 1952(after Howdy'd beaten Mr.X by a landslide),was when Dayton Allen(Mr.Bluster,the Flubadub,the Inspector-and live characters like Chef Pierre and Ugly Sam),Bob Keeshan(Clarabelle,Chief Featherman),Bill Lecornec(Chief Thunderthud,Oil Well Willie and voice of Dilly Dally) and Rhoda Mann(the chief puppeteer)were fired over a salary dispute.Allen Swift was good enough to replace Dayton Allen on the puppet voices,Nick Nicholson was good enough to replace Bob Keeshan as Clarabelle and Lee Carney was a good enough puppeteer to replace Rhoda Mann-but no one could replace Bill Lecornec so he returned within the next two months.

      Nick Nicholson would soon take on the role of "Corny Cobb" and Lew Anderson would become "Clarabell".

    Buffalo Bob once said in an interview many years after the show was over that The Princess was a rather "loose" young woman. She basically slept with every guy who worked on the show. I think that's kinda funny!
