If we understand that everything we have and need is from God, then we will see it’s up to God if we will have that thing that we really need. That is how I manage those situations. It’s all God’s will. That is where contentment comes in. We have to pray to be content in any situation we find ourselves.

I used to be very jealous although I would try to convince myself I wasn't. Then one day I saw a video of a Catholic priest talking about why it's wrong to be jealous. Some of the points he made were:
    1. You only see the exterior of the person. You don't see or care about the interior. You see they live in a nice house, drive a nice car, wear designer clothes, etc and think they have the perfect life. You don't know they are in an abusive marriage or suffer from depression and suicidal thoughts. Jealously only let's you see the outside.
    2. Jealousy makes you angry and bitter.
    3. When you are too busy being jealous then you don't realize all the beauty and love around you. You are never happy. You never realize all the blessings you have.
This video really opened my eyes and I do believe God put this video in my life. I still get jealous at times but with prayer I'm doing a lot better.

I am actually a naturally jealous person. I have had tons of struggles on this issue. So these are my two cents about handling jealousy:
What DID NOT work for me:
    1. Discounting what she has (e.g. Her xxxx is not "that" gorgeous.)
    2. Trying to find superiority in my life (e.g. I may not be as pretty but I am smarter).
    3. Trying to shame myself for wanting "worldly things(e.g. looks, money, boyfriend)". It's okay to want those things. It's only wrong when you sin your way to pursue those things.
    4. Trying to find the "formula" to her happiness. e.g. "Maybe she was more mature than me, that's why she was blessed with an amazing husband." Well. Actually, you may be more mature than her. There are tons of married people who have flaws. God's grace is a free gift, not a reward to someone's passing a test. (See #1 below)
    5. Trying to justify God. e.g. "God has a greater plan for me" kind of things... (He always does, but let's suppose He doesn't have one, if so, are you going to stop loving Him because of that?)
    What DID work for me:
    1. Acknowledging that God has the freedom to choose whomever He wants to give HIS blessing. Everything is God's, and the GIVER decides whom to give His good things. It is presumptuous for me to tell Him what He can and can't do with His creation.
    2. Learning to praise God for doing His Will, even if it may not even end up as a "greater plan" for me. I acknowledge the bad situation as bad, but still can praise Him, NOT because He will "turn this around", but because I love Him and I want Him to be free.
    3. Just telling God in prayer that I feel tempted. And admitting that that's because I honestly want what she has. And that I want His blessings, too. God always wants me to straight come to Him like a baby "I want that too!" and confide in Him my innermost desires, than to seethe in jealousy toward another human being as a convoluted expression of my own desire.

Thank you for this topic. This is something I struggle with. I used to be worse but through prayer and confession I have definitely improved a lot. Still struggle with it, especially with social media and seems like people only post the happy times on there. What I do is try to remind myslef that those are their blessings. God has given me other blessings, like health, the health of my children, a home m, jobs that we can pay our bills with. Family and friends. I repeat those things in my mind. When you take time to be thankful for what you have you dont have time to think about the things you don't or you wish you did. Staying off Social Media fir a while helps too. Spending more time reading, time in prayer really does help. That's what has worked for me. God bless and thank you for your ministry!

What I’ve realised is that God gives us each our own path to walk and it’s best just to concentrate on the things that matter. When I feel jealous again or envious I’ll take your advice and pray for this person. Thank you Heather, you are a blessing to the world.

This is a great video and the timing is perfect like our Lord. I struggle with jealousy but what you said about praying for them is something a priest once told me when I was struggling with anger. I never understood as well as you put it about receiving grace when you pray for someone you struggling with because more than anything is your trying to find peace in what you don't have or are angry about. Life happens and we all have different journeys. I'm going to put this more into practice. Thanks and God bless you and your ministry

There's one that I've really had to work on is being jealous of those who don't have to struggle and live pay check to pay check. I know it's wrong and petty. I continue to pray and I'm getting better. Thanks for covering this, it's so important. Bless you

I too, have learned to pray for the person I am jealous for, and I agree...it was the ONLY thing that changed the situation, by the grace(s) of God. I still struggle occasionally, but continue to go to confession and pray, etc., and ultimately I know that it's because of my own feelings of inadequacy, in whatever it is, which is not fair to the next person. I am much like you, whereas it's not in materialism, but I admit, any of my reasons are just as sinful, as sin is sin. Original sin sucks! Lol.
Anyway, beautiful... I am in love with your channel and I truly wish I had Catholic friends like you in my everyday presence. Thank you for your videos.

I’m surprised jealousy of someone else’s appearance wasn’t mentioned... that is a huge one.. especially amongst women... unfortunately a lot of pressure is putting on women to feel that they need to look a certain way.. I’m sure a video could be made dedicated to that topic alone...

I get envious because I really appreciate and want certain things, tangible and intangible, and I see others having and I'd never begrudge anything and I'm always genuinely happy for others fortune. I enjoy seeing others prosper! But I talk to God because I know He doesn't like envy. So I confess and pray about it. I'm grateful for what I have, and who I am. I am envious of others cooking abilities, they make any dish seem easy and being able to knit or sew (never my strong point) I can't sing but like too. ; ) I know and I am grateful for being the way I am, for loving and being sensitive to others etc. But it is hard at times to not wish my hands could make what theirs do but I do help crafts people by buying things I can afford and joyfully accepting a gift from them.

Some jealousy can stem from insecurity. "This person has what I want, a handsome husband who can provide... but I'm not married, what's wrong with me? What do they have that I don't? Am I not good enough to be a wife and mother Jesus?" ;(
Of course, I had that issue, and I realized that I wasn't ready, but it still hurts sometimes seeing people who seem happier than I. But it's true you gotta cut it off right away by saying "In the name of Lord Jesus, stop" or "Lord help them grow closer to you, me too." before you let it spread and fester.

My issue isn't jealousy. It's anger and revenge. I'm a giving and nurturing person, but people have been rude to me my entire life, including my own mother. I am not trying to make a sob story because I have met and know so many wonderful people. But there were close friends and even family members who secretly rooted for me to fail. I used to be so vengeful but God has brought me to a new light. It's not my job to seek revenge. My job is to learn from my mistakes and most importantly serve God. All I do now is pray for people- even those who hurt me-, read my Bible, and serve God in my life.
