  • Game cameras are a great tool to give us an idea of what is going on in the woods when we aren't around. And for a trapper that can be a big deal. We are only at our set locations for minutes each day, that leaves alot of time for other things to go on. So utilizing a game camera at your trap set location can really open your eyes to what is going on and how you may be able to improve your trapping techniques. Thanks for the vid. I've got one tip for you as I've been trapping for 40+years. Back-set your sets. Most canines will visit the back of a set and your yotes walked all over the place. Good luck.

      That is a good tip and one I definitely need to start doing. Just the other day I had a coyote dig my dirthole out from the side. If I'd had a trap on the back I might have got him. Thanks for the tip!

      Thanks! Its almost as exciting as checking traps, waiting to see what you got on camera, but definitely disappointing too when you see those coyotes stroll right by your sets.

    Good footage. Critters often come into sets and don't get caught I agree. Its figuring out what went wrong that can be the problem. Cameras definetly help. Kirk has footage of a marten going through a conibear several times without it firing. Wax them traps, not big conibears though - too dangerous, make them lightening fast.

    I would be careful with the cameras and canines, my experience has been that they get real wary of those cameras since they make some noise. I have a few videos showing this but one on my channel called Ponderosa Trail (from 2012)at about 1 minute in a wolf walks by the camera and when it is triggered comes back for another look. I have coyotes that jump off the trail, i really don't know if some cameras are noisier to the critters then others and it depends on how wary they are.

      +Bill Stannard I was concerned that they might have a negative impact but I haven't noticed yet, of course they could be shying away before they are in the camera frame but I try to put my cameras away from the sets and not real obvious to begin with. I haven't noticed my Primos cameras being noisy, the only thing I've noticed with them is the infrared lights turn on when its dark, they do have the blackout lights on some of the cameras which would probably be best.

    I had the same idea. I had some trouble though and ended up pulling the camera. One of my sets I saw on the video camera that the coyote was headed to my lure when the trail camera flicked on, then the coyote seemed to notice the camera and walked towards the camera and I guess the infrared was on and spooked the coyote away.

    • @coyotetrappingschool1575
      @coyotetrappingschool1575  7 лет назад +1

      Thats definitely a concern. So far I haven't seen any animals shy away because of my cameras, but I don't see everything.

    • @PhilDeGuzman
      @PhilDeGuzman 7 лет назад

      Good that you haven't had issues. My issue was only at night and the set was in an open pasture where coyotes and foxes had killed a bunch of my chickens. Like you, I used the cam to check my setup and they hit all around the trap except the one spot I needed them to step.

      +GoPro Outdoors I use a variety of lures, Cavens, Mark June, Blackies Blend, Dobbins. Check out this video ruclips.net/video/ZEn5x3qWnaM/видео.html The gist of it is most all of the commercially made baits and lures will work. The key to figuring out what works best is to keep track of the lures you are using and over time you will see which ones are your best performers and give you the best results.

    well with tasco trailcam I use enigizer 2200mah nimh rechargeable AA batteries 720 HD and over 50 videos on one recovery of trailcam it's not wise to use alkaline average 700-900 mah for good brands when you could have nimh and over 2000mha and recharge and reuse while reviewing your footage

      +Coyote Trapping School I'm new to this trapping game and have a lot of your videos to thank for knowledge that I have gotten to take in. I'm subbed to your email list and on here. I have read a lot of Charles Dobbins and Slim Pederson's early writings and have learned a bunch about coyote behavior. Especially from Clint Locklear. With lure and bait, it would appear that coyotes will let you know whether they like the smell. If they dig and dig and dig to get to the bait or lure, then the bait or lure has peaked their interest. If they roll on it, that means the bait or lure is too rank, over tainted/rotten. This is just what I have read. Of course, a coyote is a coyote, is a coyote, is a coyote. They are all different in their attitude and no one coyote will work a set the same way. Although, the age of the coyote can be a factor in how they work the set. A pup/yearling will approach the set from the front, kinda like a teenager that isn't afraid of anything because they have never had anything happen to them. An older coyote, will work the set from the side. A lot more cautious. An adult/ dominant male or female will work the set from behind. This is just what I've read. I have an article by Dobbins that you may enjoy. It's about fox trapping. He studied them for years out in the wild to learn how they act, live, work a set, and how they read a set. Anyways, great footage. A trail camera on your trapline at set locations is an awesome idea. I bet a lot of myths are debunked. Great Video

      D.J. Taylor Thanks, I'm glad my videos are helping. Studying the behaviors of the animals is the best way to learn how to better catch them, that's why I like using the trail cameras because you can see how they react, not just assume they act a certain way. Sounds like you're well on your way to being a trapper, best of luck and let me know if I can help. Kris

      Coyote Trapping School I appreciate your willingness to help me out. Most kinda brush us new comers off. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions for ya before my trapping debut next season. Lol. Here's the article I was telling you about. www.trapperman.com/trapperman/article_one.html...Here's the page before with other articles he wrote on beaver and some other stuff. www.trapperman.com/trapperman/Words.html...I really like reading about how things used to be. I'm mainly going after cats but plan on setting for coyotes too. My deer/turkey hunting area is ridiculous with predators. Nobody is trapping them. It's public land. Jefferson National Forest here in Pulaski County VA. I've got a lot of logging roads and gas lines to trap. It's chocked full of 'em both. I guess if ya want, any tips on catching either cats or coyotes in the mountains would be great. Not a lot of info out there about trapping woods/mountains. Thanks Kris

    • @coyotetrappingschool1575
      @coyotetrappingschool1575  8 лет назад

      +D.J. Taylor Same principles with mountains as anywhere else. I'd look for intersections of those logging roads and especially gas lines. Mark June is a pretty good authority on canine behavior. I've seen him do demonstrations and he is very knowledgeable. I think he might have a PhD and did it all on foxes and coyotes.

    Why do you have to torture those poor defenseless little coyotes, they wouldn't hurt a mouse? Really ? Great video and it always offer good insight on possibly why we are not getting a yote in every trap, I try to be SO careful in every way I can think of and I have way to many coyotes around my house, it seems I am getting 1 coyote for every 3 sets, I am guessing that is around Average?

    • @coyotetrappingschool1575

  • @charlescarmichael56
    @charlescarmichael56 5 лет назад

    Why? Why are you torturing these coyotes? What did they ever do to you? What passes through your brain when you do these things? What makes YOU think that YOUR life is more important than the coyotes’ lives? I want to know what is behind all this cruelty.

    • @coyotetrappingschool1575
      @coyotetrappingschool1575  5 лет назад +3

      Do you know that the traps that I use are the same traps that are used by the government when they are relocating animals to establish new wildlife populations? Trapping is a highly regulated activity, and everything I do is legal. What makes the coyote think his life is more important than the rabbit he eats?
