It's hard to stand down on the mud to set I use my hands to compress the levers and my knee to hold the bottom lever away from the dog down then I just grab hold of the top jaw and the little lever and push them down in my hands and sit it that way the whole time with my knee on that bottom Jaw it hold it open if you need to close it you just keep your knee on it you can let go with your hands and grab hold of the levers and slowly close it back cuz trust me I don't know how on Earth you can stand on them out in the field if you're resetting but that's just me that's just a new trick I learned here recently compliments of trapper J but man great video love that everybody's got so many kids out there trapping now I wish I was able to run traps again like I used to did I have all of six this year LOL tight chains brother

For Arkansas the largest is 6 inches for land. And anything bigger than 5 inches it has to be rubber or offset jaw.

Thanks for sharing. I do not see in the TWRA rules and regulations anything about cushion-hold traps being the only legal Steel leg-hold traps. Has that information been possibly changed from the time this video was posted? Based on the information I read in the rules and regulations, you can use a steel leg-hold trap with outside measure of jaw spread that is 9 inches or less.

For the ones that are new you need to degrease them simmer them and hot water and Dawn dish detergent for about an hour then you will die them 30 minutes to an hour in logwood die and then you will get you some wax melt the wax and wax them do all your settings before doing that

For trapping coyotes do you have to dye and wax them? Or could you just dye?
I would recommend it. It protects your investment. I would at a minimum use cheap spray paint and wax.

It all depends on the species you are trapping and the population or numbers to intend to catch. Every trapper will say there is a certain number to put it out, but there is no set in stone rule.

I would contact your local conservation officer to verify the laws in the state/county you are trapping in.
I prefer using a live cage trap in case I catch something I don’t intend, like the neighbors’ dog or cat, and can release them without any damage done.
These foot holds don’t do any damage. I have caught dogs and cats and never broke the skin on any of them. They all ran off fine probably sore for a few days but fine none the less.
I’ve been catching the raccoons eatin my chickens and I threw them in the creek bed and the coyotes would come and eat em but now I wanna catch a coyote

Trapping can be a very effective way to protect livestock. Trapping racoons and coyotes would certainly help to protect your chickens!

Jaw spread does not equal "kill area"! The jaw spread can be 12" but if the critter doesn't step on the pan it doesn't matter. The Bridger #2 appears to have a larger pan than the Duke #3, and I assume, as you indicated, that other pans and jaw spreads aren't represented by trap numbers. On Amazon, the "disposable" duck bill earth anchors cost $54 for 6 with the rod included??
I don't think a screwdriver is a good idea. It opens up the hole and weakens the upper part of the holder. I believer there is a better tool for that.
