great info. my 1st season, took me a month to finally catch 1! I've had several "escapees" and a few dig ups. You're right about bedding, it's tough. liked the tip about using the swivel to stabilize, gonna try that. I'm a little frustrated with offset jaws(#3 traps). dont seem to hold them. they usually come off right after trap fires. you've got my subscribe!
Glad you found the video helpful! We have a playlist dedicated to coyote/predator trapping that you might find helpful as well! Congrats on your first catch!
I tried coyote trapping about 20 years ago. They kept digging up my traps. I threw in the towel admitting they were smarter than me. I pulled out my traps a couple weeks ago which were rusted and several had to be thrown out. I got the rest back in shape and am going to try again. They did not have RUclips back then to tell me what I was doing wrong. This time I am going to give them hell ! Hopefully !
Next video can you say what brand your trap is because I’m a beginner trapper and looking to get some but everything else is great and you did a great job explaining it
On hole sets,.isn't good idea to put trap 3" left or right of center of the hole? That way when coyote legs are spread trap won't be center where he's not stepping? Or having the big hole then a smaller hole left or right with scent so they work different angles?
Somebody forgot to tell all the fox's I catch on coyote urin that they are supposed to be afraid of it. Lol. I've heard it before and purposely used coyote urin as to not catch as many fox.
@@dannyo.4131 Good deal! We would say location of your traps is the most important thing to focus on. We have a whole playlist for predator trapping that goes into some more details on that.. Best of luck!
DeerHunter Unfortunately that trip was cut short due to weather for our production team. We got the traps set and had to head out the next day. But, Tom did check the sets after we left and both were successful! The addition of the lambs wool and the wax dirt certainly helped beat the elements. Up next will be how to set a pipe dream set. Which was also a very informative how-to video! Hopefully you found this video useful and thanks for watching!
We were also trying to find them. Their website said currently unavailable, and nothing had been posted on their facebook page in over a year. They might unfortunately be out of business.
I believe that the anvil lure Tom is using came from his good buddies over at the management advantage. I'm not sure if they sell it or just make it for personal use. I will try and figure that out!
Being it's for coyotes ,,,is your trap set to close to the hole ,,,.why not bring it out about 16" from the hole to May be get them by the back of front leg ,,,,
You want to catch them by the front leg. Usually 6-8 inches off the hole is about the right distance for the coyote when he puts his nose to the hole to smell it.
You are never going to have hands or gloves that are totally scent free to where a coyote can not smell that you have been there. The fact that you are there you are leaving scent.
I use gloves when it is cold out. Otherwise I will use my bare hands to make a set. But I never bait or lure with gloves on. You can't hide the fact you were there. I typically use at 2 different gland lures to hold the interest. Beaver and bobcat are my favorite. Long range call skunky of course. Every time it rains hard I freshen up the scents. Learning animal behaviors is the key to success and trail cams on your sets helped by far.
We wanted to touch on a bit of everything, in case some of the viewers had little to no experience trapping. Sorry you found some of the info un-useful.
It shouldn't be allowed to trap any kind of creatures. It is ok to shoot certain animals, to reduce the pest effect. You need to shoot the animals without trapping them.
They are saving a lot of baby deer and baby turkeys, from getting brutally murdered by coyotes , also pet dogs and cats that coyotes will tear apart still alive
you did a great job explaining how to make that set. thanks for sharing

Probably have some bait scent on the trap. Use different gloves handling trap and bait. Also set all your traps, then add the bait.
Make sure you boil away any oil, then use unscented wax to protect and lube it. Don’t get bait scent on your trap- agree: use gloves for baiting.

Very good instructional. Thanks for all the helpful details. 👍

Great video and information. Awesome job. Thank you

Awesome video! Have you ever tried pipe insulation under your pan? I'm no pro but it's a lot easier than toying with that screen.
We have not!
Coffee filters are king as pan covers . newbies need to practise setting in sand once ya can get them rock solid in sand you can set anyplace
Coffee filters are a great idea! and so is the sand to get some good practice!
Hey I’ll have to try that
Great Video!
Thanks for watching!
If it's good enough for one, it's good enough for two. My mentor taught me that and thanks to him I landed two foxes in one night.
Nice!

Typically when they approach a dirt hole they will step centered with their bodies with one foot about 8 inches from the hole so they can smell it.

Where did you buy your anchors for the trap
I believe James got them from Minnesota trapline supply. We have links to the products in the description!
When was this video filmed? Like what time of year? I know it was released March 20 but was it filmed in March?
It was filmed in early march of last year.
What size auger bit do you use? 2”x16”?
Yes 2x12 - 2x16 will work just fine, depending on how much power your drill has.
So you used gloves to set trap and then no gloves with the bait??
We aren't too worries about scent while trapping, hasn't caused us any issues. Some are, and that is totally fine.
@@Whitetail_Properties Thanks for the reply. Was just wondering as a beginner

where do you get those sudden valley traps? couldn't find online
We were also trying to find them. Their website said currently unavailable, and nothing had been posted on their facebook page in over a year. They might unfortunately be out of business.
Wildlife control supplies has them I think
How do you make it freeze proof?
Yes wax dirt is what we used in this video. It is kind of time consuming to make, but it is well worth it to keep your traps from freezing up!
Whitetail Properties thank you but I bet it is worth it if you can catch some coyotes
I am knew at this buddy
We hope you found the video helpful!

I'm not a trapper but it looks like your trap bed would fill up with water being a bowl like that.
With any significant moisture that is always a possibility.
That is y u put calcium chloride to prevent freezing
Yes calcium chloride or in this example we were using wax dirt. Which also prevents freezing.
Within sight of residence??
Did y’all here all of those gees In the back ground
Of course! Lol

Saying a fox is afraid of yote urine is total bs.
Umm why u use a offset
i use an offset that way if a small animal gets caught it might be able to get out. or if an animals toe gets caught it can still get out
Can't stand when people say cow yote
:
Do not order, you will be Disappointed.
.....But predators don't need to trap. Natural predators are capable of catching their prey without traps. I don't get it.
