    Are you embarrassed owning a scooter? 🤔 How do you describe your bike?

    • @CopyWhoTV
      @CopyWhoTV 2 года назад +8

      Embarrassed? No way. I have had a couple friends goof on me for riding a scooter, but that was my smaller scooter, a 2001 49cc Honda Elite SA50. It's a nostalgia kick for me(even the smell of the 2 stroke, reminds me of my teens). My buddy's parents gave him a 49cc Honda Elite when we were like 14(you have to be 16 with a driver's license). Other kids in the neighborhood had Honda Sprees. I was super jealous. I begged my parents for one when I was a young teen and they wisely refused. I was obsessed. I finally bought one on my own as an adult without asking. HA. I put like 1200 miles on it the first summer, and over the next 20 years, I have put an additional 1100 miles. I got it majorly tuned up last summer and put new wheels on it. I still love the stupid thing, but I have to start it about once every week or two if I don't want the carburetor to get gummed up.
      My parents both objected when I said I was gonna buy the ADV150, especially my mom. My dad saw it and realized that it wasn't too bad compared to what I already have. I was bored during the lockdown so I endeavored to get my motorcycle endorsement so that I could buy one. I feel even COOLER on the ADV150 and it's WAY more comfortable to ride than my Elite. It's nice to have higher speeds, but I definitely am not a fan of the harsher wind noise, but the full face helmet helps.
      I rode up to a gambling town in the mountains last fall. It was very interesting because most of the motorcycles on the road that day waved at me. I had never experienced so many other riders who just have a sense of camaraderie and they wave. Pretty cool. I do know there are some bike snobs though, but there are certain types of snobs in every walk of life.
      I twice almost got run over on my Elite because it's small and people don't see it. I also almost slipped and fell once when I used my breaks on gravel. That was a learning experience. I absolutely NEVER put my faith in other drivers to see me. In contrast to when I first bought my Elite, there are way more distracted drivers these days thanks to smartphones and that's a concern for me.
      On both bikes, I always avoid being in people's blind spots. It's much easier to see immediately behind me on my Elite compared to the ADV150. I would like to have better rear view mirrors on the ADV. I just recently put gold reflective tape on both sides of the rims. It looks sorta cool to me because the color ties in with the rear suspension. I also bought a gold color radiator cover off of Amazon which also looks cool because of the way the color ties in with the reflective tape and the suspension. I personally love the color gold.
      I keep hearing about the ADV350 that exists in Asia. I'd consider one of those if it came here.
      Not embarrassed at all. Like you, I actually enjoy this hobby. It feels freeing riding on it.
      I just done did talk my head off.

      @@CopyWhoTV Nice write-up, thank you. I forgot to mention in the video my first motorized two-wheeled bike was a Tomos moped back when we were teenagers. There were about four of us who had the same moped and we were OGs of our area cruising around the streets on them. We removed the baffles and made them super loud (kids) and had a blast! We'd decorate them with roach clips that had those feathers back in the 80's. LOL! Again...kids... We all go through stages and I miss those carefree times. I'd ride 10 miles in the freezing cold with just a shirt on because I thought I was cool as most kids do at that age. Froze my arse off! But, I was sooo cool....I thought. :P

I don’t intend to ever go on the interstate, but I can go on a state route if necessary. I’ve had mine just at one year and have not gotten less than 100 mpg. For me, it’s the perfect motorbike. Got my ADV 150 in Thailand for about 1 month and I would say it's definitely the great choice if you are looking for a daily use scooter ! Easy to ride, easy to handle, enough storage to fit what you need.
    About the box cover of 12v Outlet, actually you don't need to drill the hole because there is a little space at the bottom of the cover which is designed for placing the phone cord when you want to charge the phone. So, you don't really need a flat phone cord but I do recommend to use braided one because it's far more durable.
    In Thailand, the ADV 150 will come with Disk brake on the front and back but we only have ABS only on the front.
    BTW, love your decals and vinyls. it make the bike looks more aggressive ! Thanks for the review. Safe ride.

    Thanks for sharing your opinion on the Honda ADV. I also like the PCX, but I need something larger. My wife always rides with me and we travel a lot of highways where the speed limit is 70 mph ( I usually keep it at 65 mph).
    I am 70 years old and own a Harley trike which rides like a dump truck. I am wanting to go back to two wheels and something with a smooth ride. That's where scooters come in to the picture.
    I found a deal on a 2022 Kymco X-Town 300I but I am a little afraid of a Kymco. So I am still looking at others scooters like a Suzuki Burgman 400 or a Yamaha XMax (they are very hard to find).

    Thanks for the review. I decided I wanted a scooter over the winter and initially was attracted to the Honda Trail and the Super Cub. My uncle had a Trail 90 when I was a kid that I rode a bit, and I had an old Honda Cub. At the dealer I realized the ADV might be better for me, but decided I wanted a little more power but still a scooter. In the U.S. that basically means the Yamaha XMAX, Suzuki Burgman, BV 350 and the Vespa GTS 300 unless you want to buy used. I ordered the Vespa GTS; I prefer the look over the others and I stopped caring what people think when I was in junior high. Still waiting for it, lol. The 2021 and newer PCX has a slightly upgraded engine now (160cc and increased HP) that is rumored to be going in the ADV in the future. And I think your transmission is actually a CVT, not DCT. I live just north of you near Dayton. I'm signed up for the beginners course here in Ohio the first week of May, but since I'm still scooterless I'll be riding their bikes.

      @@Trekopolis reading the course description, you can use your own scooter as long as it’s 100-500 cc. But you have to get permission from the “training location”. There is a personal vehicle inspection form they suggest bringing to class. I’d suggest asking on the first day which is classroom instruction about bringing your ADV 150 for the riding portion. I personally would benefit from a little clutch practice, lol. Interestingly, Ohio considers a 100 cc and up scooter to be a motorcycle.

I did the free mod from owning a 2020 grom which is take the restrictive screen off of the stock air filter and then took that little snorkel on the airbox lid out to let in a little more air!👍 that made a difference on the grom but haven’t ridden mine yet to test it as I did it this evening!

    I actually kind of feel that mentality against scooters is getting less and less everyday. Scooters are actually pretty popular where I live. I see them all the time. A lot of former "motorcycle only" guys are now warming to them and see some of the advantages they have only the much bigger, faster, and powerful motorcycles. Other than the smaller 50cc scooters, most above 150cc seem more than capable of staying with normal everyday city, rural, and interstate traffic. Often leaving everyone in the dust at stoplights. 😂 The bigger ones have more than enough raw power and speed to handle highway and freeway traffic.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 года назад +4

      Americans have this bigger, faster, status symbol mentality that I've never related to. I'm not materialistic and value my hard-earned income. I'm as frugal as anyone so buying this bike was unusual for me. But, she's all I have. I don't have a boat, a Harley, a huge truck, play golf four times a week, etc. My focus is my family as a provider and for me that's more important than a lot of "toys". Thanks for the comment! 🙏

    Thanks for this video, gave me a real sense of actually riding it around casually, as I'm 70 now and have always wanted a smallish bike but I don't like shifting at all. When I was in my 20's I borrowed a friend's Honda 450 and drove it around all day and really liked liked it. I want, as you say, "easy". My concern with this is just having to wear a helmet, I don't want to put on a full face helmet because it has got to be hotter than heck under there. Have you worn a open face type helmet in the past? I would wear my shades with them.

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 года назад +2

      In Ohio, helmets are mandatory until you get your full motorcycle license endorsement. Then I'm not required to wear one. I never tried an open face helmet, no. But, I might skip the helmet if I'm slowly riding around my neighborhood at very slow speeds. On major roads with heavy traffic I would wear a helmet at all times. It's a personal choice. I'm used to it now actually. 😉✌

    I always find it really funny when people are a little more confrontational at the idea of a scooter, listing all the upsides and watch them flounder and say "well it's a little girl bike!" or something along the lines. Which I translate to a defeat. Although that mostly only happens online. I don't think I have ever talked to anyone in person who looked down on them or at least they never expressed it. No, not embarrassed at all.
    AFAIC every motorcycle rider has no clue how limited & limiting their standard
    M/C's are versus a legit "Maxi Scooter".
    But that's ok to each his own.
    I just think the economy, utility, simplicity & rider protection my Burgman 400 Scoot has are really a unique & unbeatable package.
    I've had over a dozen bikes of many brands & types, this is my favorite.
    IF I ever change this bike, it will be for another Maxi Scooter, a newer model.
    I HAVE given thought to a larger ADV bike like V-Strom 650 or KTM 390 ADV.
    But one of those couldn't replace this Scoots virtues no way.
    Admittedly I'm intrigued by the 150-200 class smaller Scoots like yours.
    I am half temped to buy a 14" wheel GY6 based 150 and slowly build it up with every hop up part they sell.
    Then go & win stop light drags.
    Crazy huh ?

      Fortunately I had bought the Suzuki V-Strom about 2 weeks prior.

      @Trekopolis  2 года назад +3

      Right, I see a lot of people killing the engine by dropping the kick-stand. It's just a personal preference. The rider's course tries to explain by cutting off the engine using the switch it becomes a habit and that's a better way to do it in case of emergency. I don't think there's any true harm doing it other ways as long as you are stopped. So I try to make it a habit too. I guess there's reasons for everything!

    • @Trekopolis
      @Trekopolis  2 года назад +1

      Left brake handle/Rear wheel, Right brake handle/Front wheel. Anti-lock on front wheel only and works just like a regular vehicle. If you apply the front brake too hard and the wheel locks up on a slippery surface, the brake pulsates very fast to achieve some traction to prevent total wheel lock-up. I've never had it happen to me yet while riding because I typically ride in dry weather only. 😉🙏

    Do you think this scooter is stable enough to be used in all weather, including maybe light snow? I know normally scooters with lower seat height are a little more usable in snow (ruclips.net/video/YaHyzt6cqA8/видео.html) just worried this might be too tall, and maybe even too heavy to stop a snowy slide. Yep. That's on them, not me. If they aren't making fun of a motorbike they'd find something else. It's called secretly insecure people. A confident person simply doesn't care about the opinions of others. ✌🏼

    The other day I was going 50 in a 40 mph area on my scoot. I was paying attention to the traffic and then I see a motorcycle cop with a radar gun and expected a nice ticket. Luckily he decided not to stop me. Probably because he like the scooter. 😁🛵
