From a non-drummer: Christoph Schneider is amazing as a live performer. Like a human metronome. I am always astounded as to how close to the album they can play as a group and I think this has a lot to do with how good Schneider is.
"The snare has one sound, and if you want it to be quieter, he stops playing the snare" had me wheezing
Schneider is a literal anchor for the bands sound. His sound is heavy and tight, making sure everyone stays where they are and don't drift off
And by literal, you mean figurative. 🤦🏾♂️
The fact that they have been around for nearly 30 years with ZERO line-up changes is amazing
Also Mehr is one of my favorite songs to drum along with
It's because if anyone in the band has a problem they stop and deal with it instead of ignoring it.
Also U2 have been the same lineup for 46 years.
therapy sessions is the bands' solution, which should be an example for all the other famous bands, which end breaking up, instead of doing like Rammstein
@@DavidOakesMusicZeppelin, RATM, Garbage, Muse, Radiohead, Alter Bridge, Audioslave
*MEHR*
is a gem which was never performed live!
I still don´t understand why!
What about a XXX-mas, Easterbunny, Sommersonnenwende-Edition or what ever you'ld call the Album
with just Ballads and rare or never live played Songs?
It must be worth a fortune!
"Liebe ist für alle da" was Christophe Schneider's coming-out party: He literally comes out swingin' on "Ich Tu Dir Weh" and turns up the heat to melt face on "Waidmanns Heil" and "Haifisch." There was just something inspiring about recording his drum parts in the big room at the Henson studios in Hollywood: Maybe Kermit & Co. helped him find another gear or something.
yep, definitely by far the most fun album to play with.
There was a documentary where they (the band (believe richard)) was talking about how christophe had learned a completely different way of drumming.. He did mention how they were excited to showcase the different style. The ever simple sounding changes of rammstein that make them great 30 years and going.
I love how each of the newer albums documents a different band member truly and fully maturing as a musician, and as a member of Rammstein. I've said to countless people that Untitled was where Flake came into his own, and everyone (musician or not) agrees. I've studied his sound for over a decade, so I hear the beauty in all his work, but he absolutely blossomed on Untitled, the synth work was insane.
@@Corvid I completely agree, Weit Weg is just something else
The double bass on Frühling in paris is my favorite part on the whole album
Reise Reise is an absolute masterpiece. The drums and overall production is amazing!
and let's not forget one of the most complex drum fill ever done in a Rammstein song
@@OliverBusse in which Song?
Crap pop metal album
The most game changing song comes out from Reise, Reise album and it's Morgenstern with this kind of basic latin groove that wasn't heard before in a Rammstein song and actually that's why most of us love this album. It has everything covered, from the straight forward industrial vibe, to the more experimental sounds or some great power ballads
Glad you mentioned Morgenstern. I absolutely adore this song! It's still completely unique in their whole discography, even to this day. Reise, Reise and Rosenrot are great albums! :)
Totally agree! Morgenstern is one of my favourites Rammstein songs, and that's because of the drums.
Definitely a reggaeton beat in Morgenstern.
Morgenstern is a beautiful gem of a song!
My favorite Drum sound has always been Herzeleid. That snare just hits you like a baseball bat and Drives every song. Every song has this heartbeat that just gets me going. It's a great album to put on in your car on long drives.
So true and Reise Reise ! Zeit smashes as hell too
DOOM is so delightful and almost lyrical on his snare using all kinds of half-beat little lead-in notes and the precise ring in the cymbal sounds give everything a lift: the band is so tight that he has the ability to put emotions into the rhythm.
LIFAD Is easily my favorite album of theirs, I loved the more heavy metal approach they took, bringing a new level of intricacies that made everything so much more interesting.
Christoph's drumming serves the song. Rammstein sound is all about tension, groove and power and he delivers perfectly. Anything else would sound messy and indulgent.
To be honest, being a drummer for more than 12 years, I love the drum sound in all their albums. Each sound and groove Schneider used was very special in its artistic ways, it's very hard for me to pick only one album as my favourite. For example, those toms' sound in Herzeleid is so unique, I never heard that sound in other bands' songs. What I also love about Schneider playing style, is that he can use both of his hands in the hi-hat. I cannot use left-hand, only right-hand, and many drummers are like this, but Schneider belongs to the 1% who can play hi-hat with left hand.
This goes to show that less is more. Drummers try too hard (myself included) to go all out every song. All out meaning: complex parts ect. We want to be so outrageous we lose our roots! I love Chris's playing. So simple and a few hidden changes. Every time you listen, you find something new you haven't noticed before.
Two ends of a scale. The best place to be is between.
Spiel mit mir is to me the most industrial, german thing ever! It sounds like what would happen if robots could play music, I love it. The drums are so efficient, no beat is wasted and every hit is has a purpose.
Just started listening to Rammstein recently and it's just been amazing going through almost 30 years of material and seeing how much they can do with so little. Like the vast majority of their material isn't really all that technically complex, but all of it so intense and moving.
Idk, as someone's who's been trying to improve my own guitar playing, the fact that you can elicit such raw emotion with pretty simple power chord progressions and drum patterns is just kind of inspiring
rammstein production is just mindblowing, my favorite album is rosenrot and riese riese, i think probably they record them at the same time, the making of riese riese videos explains that process, Rammstein teachs us all that music complex is further that just only technique and speed
I look at them like sister albums. Yes, a good deal of the songs were recorded at the same time. You can really notice when you pay attention to the keyboard sounds.
*Reise :D
My Top And most interesting drum tracks:
Herzeleid: Der Meister
Sehnsucht: Alter Mann
Mutter: Zwitter
Reise Reise: Keine Lust
Rosenrot: Benzin
LIFAD: Waidmanns Heil or LIFAD
Rammstein: Radio
6 songs from Rosenrot were recorded during the Reise, Reise sessions, 4 were written during that time but recorded later and one was done completely seperate.
Same here and my gosh I loved Zeit what a sound especially in Angst its so gripping
I think it goes without saying that each member of Rammstein are master class musicians. without any of them Rammstein wouldn't be the same. I think that's why they've worked to keep their relationships so tight. I can't think of any other band that's been so consistent throughout the years. I love each member with all my heart I hope they continue to rock out for years to come
The song "Spring" on Rosenrot is my all time favorite. When the band first comes in on that song it's so friggin heavy. I love it. Such a killer groove.
Yeah I love spring!! Such an underrated song!
That’s my goddamn sex song.
@@feliscorax that's what I like to hear
@@feliscorax weird to say this about a song that is about suicide. Well at least weird for a native speaker
@@Quaselfasel I mean it's more about murder in the end, but yeah, agreed - wouldn't really put this on for sexy time either xD
The self titled record has a lot of cool drum parts and one of my favourite drum tones from them between that and the Reise Reise record.
Radio is a really fun bouncy drum part as well as Auslander and Tattoo has that classic Rammstein stomp snare beat that is all over their discography.
Damn right, love the sound of the 2019 album! The way the drums kick in during Puppe is such a punch in the gut! Was Ich Liebe also has a really nice groove to it
Reise Reise is my favourite, I think. The song itself has my favourite drum sound. Those rimshots in the intro are just powerful. And so if the magnitude of the whole song following the intro.
For me, Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da its the epitome of Rammstein record history, and Ich Tu Dir Weh is the most powerful song of Rammstein catalog. They combine all the stile of the earliest albums and they give us that song.
The closing track of Reise Reise has more dynamics, with quieter verses and ghost notes
My favourite groove has to be Wiener Blut. Not the most popular song in their catalogue, but IMO one of the most interesting ones in terms of drums
I always liked the drumming in Küss Mich. One of my favorite songs overall because every bit of the band is noticeable, especially the bass. Wish they'd play it live.
That is, I believe, one of, if not the only song they haven't performed live. Such a shame as it is an incredible song.
The fills he does in Amerika before each chorus are so good 😍
He didn't use double bass back then... So on Herzeleid, Live Aus Berlin, Mutter, Etc it's a double pedal... I believe he's first double bass appearance was on Keine Lust video in 2004...
Great video man! The drums of Rammstein is like a war march drum, Links 2-3-4 is a good example! And ofcourse Sonne is a masterpiece.
Definetely Morgenstern. One of their absolute best songs! :)
Hab mich voll erschrocken als du das erste mal "Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen" gesagt hast, dachte du bist irgendnen Ami und dann kommt auf einmal die perfekt deutsche Aussprache. Super Video! Danke dafür, sehr interessant
As someone who played drums in high school jazz band, the beat for "Du Hast" (and many others) is one of my favorite grooves to play. I have used it for a few bands of different genres I played in.
Very interesting and cool analysis of Schneider's game. His drumming in great detail and the pleasant sound quality of their songs in the video made me shake my head hahaha :) A wonderful presenter with a competent speech! Thank you! I think your interview was a pleasure to check out Schneider himself! 😄
The album reise reise was my fav. But I started out listening to them as an 8 year old and his drumming made me want to play and I have been playing for 20 years. My dad laughed at me… I ran to my room and I called his mom with the phone and told his mom, my grandma that he’d had laughed at me and my pride was hurt and that if my older brother can have a guitar 🎸 I better be able to get a drumset. He had bought me a 100 dollar Adam drum kit thinking I wouldn’t pursue and I’d give up, but here I am 20 years later and going 🤘
I'm currently working my way through their discography for the first time, so this video was very well-timed! Deutschland is what really drew me in to the band, and I was amazed by how powerful the drums sounded on that song.
Congrats on the 110k, you guys deserved it👊😉!
Rock on🤘💯
I love the new album. It has some of the best riffs and drums in my opinion
Reise, Reise was my favorite album for a long time. Then the Zeit came out and moved Reise, Reise to the second place on my list.
Mutter is my favourite album of them and has also one of my favourite drum sounds
Enjoyed the video. Keine Lust and Mein Land are two of my favorites, and I also love the processing on the sounds in Der Meister.
Radios groove is good enough it got me back in after 10 years.
Love Rammstein since was a kid, saw them live in Oslo, Ullevål 2019, my first time saw them live and was amazing, memories for life❤🤟😎🇳🇴
Have all the allbum, live dvds, vökerball❤
Awsome video, keine lust one off many favorite songs, love all albums😎👏
Thanks for the album walkthrough, very good information even for non-drummers
Definitely Reise Reise for me! Love the drumming on this one :)
Best drum sound was absolutely Lifad album.
That's the Sonor SQ2.
@@arbogast4950 Nope. He used the SQ2 live, but LIFAD was recorded on a Delite.
Next would be rosenrot reise album
My absolute favorite drum part in Rammstein discography is 'Reise, Reise' (the song) both the sound of the drums and the groove are killers! Followed by 'Ich tu dir weh' groove, which is from my favorite album.
Best album from the drummers view: Reise, Reise.
Best groove from the drummers view: Amour, caused by the dynamicly played groove on the rim, the hats, the ride and the crash.
Best Album from the view as a fan: Liebe ist für alle da. It was launched, when i was getting used to listen to Rammstein.
Liebe ist für Alle da is such a great sounding album overall. But my favorite album is Reise Reise, there are so many songs on the other albums, but I like the way this album is build from top to bottom. Amour is such a great way to finish the album and Reise Reise starts it with full energy ...
So interesting !! Thanks for the video :D
Most importantly, in 2004 (Reise, Reise) Schneider finally discovered the ride cymbal!! ❤️
😂😂
He actually used a ride on the Herzeleid album ;)
@@VagonGeroev You mean that part in Das Alte Leid? Maybe there's more but I mostly mean it that he actually started using it in songs and added it to his live drum kit 👍
@@PedroVonSchwidernoch Not true, he used it during the Mutter tour as well.
Just came to the Rammstien party. God there’re easily the best band in the world. So damned honest and original. Got tickets for Cardiff.
Define ‘best band’. You might mean favourite band but you can’t say one band is better than the next. Different musicians, songs, engineers, live shows, singers, genres etc.
i love every album, every album has songs i absolutely adore, so i can't choose... i just love this band :D
I think Rosenrot was the second half of Reise, Reise. Which is why it sounds similar and was out so quickly.
you are right about the snare, absolute center of their music
Love the video
And love all there music
Btw till this day i struggle to find a band that has such intense and amazing live shows. To be exact, after 20 years you can clearly say Rammstein has the best live experience you can get from a concert in general. Never seen so many pyro effects and other stuff at ANY show worldwide. :)
LIFAD is my favorite album, greatest drum tone and composition. Ich Tu Dir Weh is great.
I wonder a bit, why you highlited the Double Bassdrum work on the LIFAD album, but not the unique shuffle like feel of "Ich tu dir weh", wich is also very unusual for a Rammstein song, which mostly are pretty straight forward 4 on the floor
Could you possibly do a recreation of Nicke Andersson's drumsound on Entombed's "Stranger Aeons" (1991)? The double kickdrum on that specific recording is so enourmously thunderous. Especially for the time it was recorded.
Really interesting and great to listen too. Funny how you hear different things
Reise Reise is my favorite album! That's the drum sound I associate with Rammstein, the groove on Keine Lust is prob my favorite
I enjoy all of their albums, but drum wise, it has to be the last one, where they integrate all the developments from their previous efforts. The sound production is another aspect that they always handled so well. This huge but clean sound that almost feels like programmed. The "simplicity" of the drum parts makes this heavy music somewhat more accesible to a broader audience. Fav songs: haifisch, Morgenstern, alter mann
When it comes to the best drum sound, I will go with Reise, Reise. Especially bacause its the album where you really can hear a top production and sound. Schneider has been playing Meinl Soundcasters cymbals on this album. There is a documentary about the sessions and recording in Mexico, where the studio engineer set up 20 mics to the kit, to get the best overall sound. My fave drum track is Dalai Lama, bacause its so much different.
Impossible. Soundcaster series were released in 2004 by Meinl. Eventhough this album released that same year, it was recorded between 2002-2003. While it remains possible Schneider acquired R&D models/prototypes (as he had the Byzance Dark Spectrum Hats prototype for LIFAD), the visuals of the cymbals don't match.
The crashes can be seen to be either A or A Custom.
The hihat might've been a prototype as it sounds quite similar to a Soundcaster 14" Medium hihat (which I happen to have IRL). But I think it's actually a K Zildjian. He also used a K Zildjian for his main kit in the tour, while switching to Soundcaster/Soundcaster Custom for the Los mini kit.
China is B8 (not B12) as it is far more orange hued, so that isn't one either.
Ride cymbal is unknown, but doesn't sound remotely to what Soundcaster rides sound like.
Dalai Lama is such a underrated song, love listening to the instrumental version
In terms of drumming and drum sound together with the music my most favourite album is Liebe ist für alle da. Waidmanns Heil is a drum and guitar blast
my two favorites albums is MUTTER and ROSENROT
Good taste. I really liked how heavy Rosenrot was without being fast. Spring, Hilf Mir, Wo Bist Du, are all great songs.
I feel like I have to share it: one time I had a chance to try out drums. You know: try to play them. I don’t need to explain how bad I was.
Therefore I have the utter most, deepest respect for drummers! Truly! It is sooooo difficult! So if you are a drummer and reading this. I bow to you!
Seemann is my favorite song, rosenrot is my favorite album, but I love sehnsuchts drum sound and Reise Reises
Super video
LIFAD! 😍
Liebe ist fur alle da really pushes me to play double bass!
If you want dynamics with R+ just go for Amour from Reise Reise
I love this videos
Reise reise album is just perfect
Favorite is Also Reise Reise, Maybe LOS from that album hits me the best.. SO well mixed and organized and huge contrast to the rest of the album.. But ey, when showing "Double Kick" please show an angel that makes sense, and turn up the kick a little... i hav mid-range studio monitors and i couldnt barely make them.
Man Gegen Man is a great song to listen/play
I re-discovered Rammstein only lately ...as a Lead Guitar player there wasn't that much to learn in their albums for me apart from some different approaches to rythmic guitars. After having gone thru Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, DeepPurple, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Black Sabbath, Santana, Pink Floyd, Gary Moore, EVH and many others it was time for me for something different and when I listened by coincidence to a song called "Was Ich liebe" and later on to "Deutschland" these fired some new interest and inspiration for me. Whatabout Rammstein's drums. bass and rythm guitars plus some lead guitars ? I'm already working on it 🙂
Amazing video. Could you do something about Danny Carey and TOOL? Thanks!
I'm a little bit late to the party but even though my favorite Rammstein album is probably Reise Reise, I think in terms of drums, Gib Mir Deine Augen is pretty underrated and it's probably my favorite.
Rosenrot - Wo bist du...that is my favorite
Me, as a metal fan and drummer maybe should say that my favourite Rammstein album is "Liebe ist für alle da" (and it's obviously a sick album - especially from a drummers perspective), but my over all favourite album is Rosenrot. Even tho it's not as "metal" as LIFAD, it sounds more creative and "complex" than the previous ones and features the most hymns on one and the same album (for my taste, of course).
For me, it's the perfect blend between old school Rammstein and some improvement. 🤟
I noticed that many Rammstein songs, and during their live shows too, there is an electronic hihat sound at every upbeat. Where does it comes from? I mean, from a technical perspective during their live shows? It does not seem to be Schneider that triggers it. Is it coming from Flake keyboard? How is it synced with the metronome Schneider has in-ear?
Drinking game:
Take a shot every time he says "straightforward"
Live Christoph plays a lot of double bass in songs which do not have double bass in the studio version.
Man, personally, I think Weisses Fleisch must be one of the best songs in Herzeleid
Reise,reise! Yes !
If you don't mind.what brand and name your drum
I really dig the drums in Waidmanns Heil!
Reise Reise is my favourite Album but my favorite songs are slightly unusual picks. Dalai Lama and Amour are super nice to play on drums and i really like them, but my favorite Song overall is Mein Teil, not because of the drumming but the overall sound. I just love that song
Can you tell me your equipment what brand and model
Reise Reise is to me the best one regarding quality of the songs and as I can also see in other comments, the best one from a drumming perspective. I think you underwhelmed Schneider's work here. This is something acknowledged by Richard Kruspe in interviews, that the drumming was totally new. In fact, in this album Schneider finally uses different dynamics and a more sophisticated playing of the cymbals. It's all over the place very remarkable, but if I have to highlight one song, I would mention the opener Reise Reise, its high hat and bass groove and the fantastic break before the string solo.
You should mention Adios from Mutter, one of most complex drum lines is there.
Erst mal Rammstein ballern 😁🤩
I never heard of them til Family Values Tour '98.
Please, make a video about drums in Zeit. Danke! Greetings from Kyiv!
Ohne Dich is my eternal Rammstein favourite
Christoph Schneider is the Charlie Watts of metal.
You released this video 8 days before "Zeit" was released!! Why not wait and include the newest album in your video?
"Reise, Reise" is solidly my favorite album, but it's impossible to choose a favorite Rammstein song.
LIFAD is the best Rammstein album to me.
They finally let Schneider play.
I really love Mutter, it was the first album I ever bought with my own money so it kinda has a special place for me (I bought it after seeing Ich Will on MTV, love that song!).
My second favorite is probably either Rammstein or Sehnsucht, depend on when you ask me ;-) but honestly, they haven’t put out one bad album imho
It's a toss up between RR and LIFAD for my favorite album. The groove on "Los" is one of my favorites.
Rammstein Mutter album is my favorite and song feuer frei!
Schneider is the best. He’s an amazing drummer
