To be honest, the only thing that take this series out of a complete trainwreck is the acting/chemistry of the lead roles. They really showed potential. Aside from that, the story had the depth of a saucer. The screenplay, the directing, the editing, it all had just wasn't good. The sex scenes where ok. All things considered, I don't think this first half was as good as some people say. It was, if anything, an ok series. But shoutout to the boys, because they really carried.
LITA was better than TT and DSN in my opinion. It is still a Mame work and thus I did not expect to be engrossed by a riveting plot. The spanking and rectal suppository were added for the shock value. I interpreted the characters as being in an alternative relationship of brat and brat tamer. So, the spanking does not irk me in that context (minus the needed communication). Only thing is that Rain is not expressly aware of the fact that he is in a D/s relationship. His character is very naive and easily manipulated. Rain and Payu are from the novel Love Storm and Sky and Prapai are from Love Sky. Mame combined the two books for this series. I have read both novels on wattpad. Rain's story is the fluffier of the two and Mame is back to her over the top toxic ways in the second story. It actually turned my stomach. Sky has significant trauma and resultant emotional issues which (of course) go untreated. The male leads love is enough to heal him which disturbs me. Overall, episodes 1-7 were an interesting bit of diversion. I did enjoy the illegal street racing parts and the beautiful motorcycles. The production value was high with some new backdrops i.e. not the same house from Cutie Pie, Baker Boys, Unforgotten Night etc. Though I wonder if part of Payu's home was the same one from The Tuxedo. The acting was better than I expected and a pleasant surprise. The chemistry between the actors is what sells Mame's dramas/novels and the reason the series is doing so well currently.
I'm glad I read this because now I know to be even more braced for the next half. What you described here about Sky is exactly what disturbed me the most about Type in TT. So thank you!
I admit to myself that I watch this series because the actors are so great and their chemistry of rain 🌧 and payu 🌪 carry the show…Yes the storylines are quite ironic but I don’t know myself but I really like watching this series though.
After Don't Say No last year, I reflected a lot about aspects of Mame's work that bothered me. I decided I would no longer feed the beast by watching subsequent series. Thus, I cannot react to Mr Critic's video, though its sharper critiques tend to ratify my reasoning. But because I miss interacting with this community, I shall draw attention to two Thai 🇹🇭 series now available on Netflix. Neither is BL, but both feature lead actors popular for BL roles. If supporting BL actors in their projects outside the genre matters to you, then seek out these series. First, *Sing Again* stars Talay (of *My Engineer* and its forthcoming sequel) and Saint (we have only one *Saint* !) as brothers. It's a hokey lakorn, but charming in its way. Raises themes like fan service and celebrity privacy that will resonate with BL fans. Second, *Thai Cave Rescue* takes six episodes to spool out a retelling of events surrounding the soccer team that in 2018 got trapped for 18 days in a cave. It's well-written and well-performed, but let's be honest: the true life events made compelling material to start. That the series lives up to that potential owes a lot to its cast, led by the late Beam Papangkorn (Waterboyy the Movie). BL fans wishing to honor the actor's legacy should watch TCR purely as a tribute to his performance.
I have seen the Ron Howard movie of this event called Thirteen Lives. It does star Peter Knight who was in KinnPorsche. It has some Hollywood big names obviously. After watching it, I went down the rabbit hole of the events behind the movie so I will definitely watch TCR now. Thank you for the recommendation.
@@deborahw2770 that's funny. I went down a rabbit hole, too. To me the series is like a "101" lesson in "How a Narcissist gets and keeps his Supply". The newbies' acting is good but the portrayed relationship dynamics are just awful ... the number of comments I have read where people think the Payu/Rain relationship is 'aspirational' is alarming😬. Despite that, I don't think the primary purpose of the drama was to 'educate' and in that sense the series is no different to the plethora of other series and movies in the entertainment industry that are repleat with serial killers, hate, anger, twisted modes of thinking, physical abuse, sexual abuse, cheating, lying, manipulating etc etc. Mame is still beating the same twisted tune just on a different drum ... there is no need for the kind of precision script, acting, cinematography or production that was shown in a series like "180 degrees Longitude Passes Through Us" (which also had a narcissistic character). The 'intent' of the two series is completely different, it is like comparing chalk with a high grade cheese. If you are going to watch Mame's stories, then you have to accept that that is how it is going to be ... like her stories or not, she is consistent if nothing else.
hehe I also do read those comments in youtube and sometimes I just wonder what I missed in the series that they were able to see... like some comments did say it is even better than KP..
Thank you for this because I was getting scared cause ppl were saying it was better than KinnPorsche. I was about to leave BL for good after that statement! I agree that the MAIN actors were good (the twin brother made me cringe every time he was on screen tho😬) And instead of extending non important scenes like, combing hair, eating, or doing homework, the director should've focused more on character development. I would've liked to see more about more of the racing world and why we should assume it's dangerous. But overall, I liked it and am looking forward for the next couple.... even tho I think they should've shown the two stories simultaneously.
Huge chunks of BL fandom convince themselves the series in progress RIGHT NOW is the best thing ever. Go read the Comments for last Saturday's Vice Versa ep,12 ×/4. Plenty of people there convinced it's the best thing they've ever seen. So, you can comfortably disregard those dismissals of KP. When I started viewing BL, fandom couldn't recommend Theory of Love enough. Now, one seldom hears it invoked spontaneously. Immediacy matters more than quality in the chatter spaces.
@Blac yeah I also read comments saying it is better than KP.. and i was like what the ... !! but as I love reading comments and people have given rave comments to even Check out and Work from Heart. I am actually wondering whether those youtube comments were paid ones!
Omg, you are your snarky best in this review.😁 Frankly, the acting from the new faces saved this lovefest from Mame. I won't react to raunchy bits because yes - they were raunchy! The drama has all that I expected from Mame but it's a one time watch and it's better than DSN and Tharn type, IMO.
I just read what happened in Thailand - a copycat to the horror that happened in US. Why are these distraught, crazy people after small children ? I had my heart in my mouth when I read the news. I am both furious and upset.
I gave up on this series at episode 3. It's like I could already foresee the entire plot and ending. And God knows I'm not lying, my sister and I joked there will be a kidnap scene and voila there it was all thanks to Kinnporshe 🤣🤣🤣. I just wish there would be "actual story" in more bls.
Very funny, loved the review. You know my feelings about Mame, I did not hate the series, it was kinda cute. You know I hate the wifey thing and the spanking and suppository thing is just kinda crossing the line. But as you have pointed out before Mame knows how to sell her product even if it is in bad taste. I do not find the actor who played Rain that interesting and the chemistry of the couple is not there for me. If you see the two actors interviewed, you can see the actor who plays Phayu is really not into the whole ship thing. Maybe the second couple will be better.
I definitely didn't expect much from another Mame series, so I've actually been a bit pleasantly surprised lol I think this one is a bit more coherent than TT or DSN and I can't decide if Mame is conscious or unconscious about this but if you watch the Phayu/Rain story through the lens of brats and praise kink, even the spanking becomes less cringe lol I have no excuse for the suppository scene though! And that first scene where Phayu takes way too long to stop was upsetting (but typical for this author). She seems like she learned a bit because he almost does but then doesn't kiss Rain in his sleep (even when he knew he was actually awake) at least twice in the series. But at least these two actually communicate, which is more than I can say for the other Mame couples or Cutie Pie. But I agree completely, Mame basically rewrites Taming of the Shrew over and over and people think it's romantic! The brat dynamics in this one made it slightly more palatable for me, but I think that might just be luck on Mame's part 🤣
I was laughing at the rectal suppository thing - so stupid. Its given to small children when they are constipated or in pain that too only if they refuse oral syrups.
@@blcritic I haven't read the book. But I think the 2nd storyline is toxic too, can't judge from the first episode. But I like the sassiness of the character of peat. Typical storyline but with a lot of background issues and its mame.. so there'll be a lot of toxic stuff. I'm watching it because I've nothing else to watch these days. Do you recommend any? 180 degrees was a fresh breath.
Have you tried Khun Chai ( To Sir with Love) it is a BL lakorn and produced by channel one31.. it is freely available over youtube with subs ( surprising) But be prepared it is too lakorny and it is 28 episodes in total i think 2 eps per week.
@@blcritic I will definitely try it out. These days we rarely get a good bl drama. On a side note, after watching ep 9 of love in the air I might say I'm a bit invested in the second couples' story but the screenplay is kinda trash. It could've been wayyyyyyy better.
@@johnmaster3748 Yes, it did. I expect, in the next Mame, Domundi, or even smaller Thai production company, to have an even more explicit NC scene shown, in which the "brat's" knees will be shoved up to his ears, by the "husband", and folks will praise it as "the greatest BL ever!!", until the next one is released.
@@VixenByNight72 oh my, that imagery is shockingly accurate 😂 Although, to be fair, I rather prefer the NC scenes in Love In the Air over series like Fahlanruk, which literally has porn music playing in the background. At least LITA slipped some classical cello in the background to give it the imaginary veneer of sophistication. If I’m going to watch barely of-age children have overly performative sex, at least give me some Bach to listen to. 😉
hehe... but I am truly sad for these upcoming actors.. now giving explicit scenes is a must.. if the story demands it.. it is fine.. but trying to sell your BL on just those scenes.. well they failed then with What the duck? and now they failed with Checkout
@@blcritic I think with these smaller Thai BL production companies, they don't have the financial backing to invest into all aspects of the programs they're producing (scriptwriters, acting coaches, sound people, set designers, directors, etc.), so they go with, what they think will help them build-up their financial nest egg, which is sex scenes. It's also not that difficult to scout out young actors, willing to do just about anything, to get their chance to be cast in a TV series.
God! I laughed so hard because what you said is true. I laughed because how stupid sometimes her stories can be and some disturbing things and sentences she depicts. Though I laughed, it was only because I cringe at the stupidity of some writers.
Well, I guess I am in the minority. I liked it! Not saying the plot was the greatest ever or the editing. The actors were good and did have chemistry in my humble opinion.
I watched Love in the air with great pleasure. I laughed contentedly. Surprised by the level of acting. Most of all, I was pleased to look at human relationships and pure love, which in real life is almost gone. Both couples looked very good in the frame. Paiuy and Rain are good and their story is interesting. But the story line of Prapai and Sky is psychologically more deeply written and deserves more screen time. There are completely unrealistic moments in the script. Just one example: how quickly Sky came out of shock. Well, negligence, as always. Cudos for music editors. The cello in the first love scene, oh how fitting! Paiuy plays with Rain's body like it's a musical instrument.
I like this series. It’s very well acted. The story is just about falling in love. The cinematography is great. I think too many people expect perfect storylines in fiction instead of normal good and bad things of falling in love and getting in a relationship. Honestly, if you have been in and out of as many relationships as I have, you would know that no relationship is perfect. There are a lot more toxic behavior than what you called out. I have been spanked as 30 something by an ex so your comment of what adult male would be spanked is your own expectation that isn’t rooted in reality. You don’t know what people do and don’t do but have set really your own moral expectations of what is right and wrong. I have made multiple arguments regarding Mame. While they are plenty of toxic behavior in her stories, I don’t people understand that a lot of what she wrote is happening. I think a lot of people who read her novels like that stuff to make her a famous writer. The novels are way more toxic than the series. It seems like people love toxicity in BLs in both novels and series to make both popular. I haven’t read or seen TharnType because I heard it has a lot of homophobic content. I don’t want to be that hypocrite who says I don’t like the content and then consume it unlike a lot of critics of Mame. If I see another BL reaction RUclipsr say they have a problem with her and at the same time watch the series and do reaction video, I’m going to 🥴🤢🤮. There are so many hypocrites who love criticizing Mame but at th same time LOVE TharnType. I’m just here with my WTF face on asking “are you for real?” 🤨
About Spanking... if it is part of S*x i do not have a problem as I know some people like it, esp those BDSM ones. But if it is done to punish someone, yes for me it is unacceptable, and I am against glorifying it, esp in a genre like BL where the vast majority of the viewers are teenage girls. About Mame' series, I watched Tharntype in full, dropped Tharntype season 2, dropped Don't say no after few episodes, and dropped the entire storyline of Sky and Parpai after their first episode as I didn't enjoy them. About having problem and still watching.. I'd like to give any series a try, can't be biased and start spewing criticism without even watching them. And it is the same for BL , KDrama or Thai Lakorns.. I believe, there is only one way to know whether a series is good or bad, and that's by watching it, at least a few episodes.
@@blcritic I’m not against people watching it. My issue is that people criticize her for the very thing they watch her series. It’s hypothetical to me. I don’t have an issue with her novels and series since I don’t believe the world is full of these perfect scenarios meet & fall in love or happy endings. The majority of the criticism comes from an unrealistic expectation of life. People aren’t perfect including the critics themselves. I can’t understand why a piece of fiction hold more value than the actions of themselves. In the way, I read the toxic novels, I read with the understanding that these are flawed people. I want to see if they have personal growth development and grow as people. This is why I like Kinn better because he did grow to feel remorse for something he did to Porsche. He didn’t become this angelic person because he still is flawed as we saw with Tawan debacle. I like my characters to be multi facet to neither all good or all bad people. As for the spanking- it’s not sexual. The behavior of what is acceptable and norm is contingent on what is acceptable to both partners in the confines of a relationship. I think the spanking isn’t something as an absolute no. It’s not the same as Payu punching the living daylights out of Rain because he was upset. I don’t see it equating to domestic violence. Like throwing a pot of hot water at someone, taking a makeshift weapon to hit someone or other physical assault. In the way Rain was spanked, I have had that done to me for being willfully defiant that is harmful. It was a singular event as with Rain. This isn’t a regular habitual occurrence. Let me be clear on this. No young girl should find it normal. Like I said it happen to me as a full grown ass adult. It’s weird because I know people who pinch their partners as a way to get them to stop doing something. It’s a constant thing too. Most people find this more acceptable punishment than the singular spanking. 🤷🏻
I didnt even realize I had watched a cut version of this series before I watched your review and.... Man. I guess this is why ppl hype this show so much. I'm currently on ep 8 and I think the series is ok, the plot is poor but sometimes it's nice to watch something light.
I like this one. It is not a big drama. Another stupidly cute guy, who will forget, that he was hitting on a girl😂. The chemistry was good and today the second´s couple story starts.About the editing, I do not know if someone else notice, that in episode 6, where they had that hot scene, Phayu was actually wearing a pale blue shorts😂😂😂. Very bad editing, cuz that scene looked good.Still good relax for me.
Yeah I just didn't get into this series. There relationship just doesn't make sense to me...but I am interested in second couple. Because of sky back story. Still not a fan
I just started watching this with my Sunday night Thai BL watch group. It is OK but I admit seeing that Mame was the creator has me worried. I have low expectations and look at it was a way to watch something with friends
The hairstyles of BL actors - or lack there off is really getting on my nerves. There just seems to be a few male hairstyles. Front parting left/right, hair covering forehead, shaved head, hair swept back, longish hair. I find the whole friend group in Ai Long Nhai indistinguishable. They all look like VERY LIGHT SKINNED THAI 'TEENS' WITH BLACK HAIR. When I see the countless publicity shots the actors have really interesting styling and hair color but as so many BLs are set in university they all have uniforms and basic hair. I was sooooo pleased when Fahlanruk finally aired the choice to have Sherbet have a much longer hairdo. I COULD ACTUALLY TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 CHARACTERS, and it actually goes with his more artistic and flirtatious nature.
hehe.. I agree.. may be the series makers can't afford better hairstylists or the stylists already have preconceived notion that university students look like that.. however, you get all sorts of hairdo in universities in Thailand. Btw have you watched Remember Me.. the wigs of Mean do give us nightmares.
@@civivva4501 I think that's exactly what Mean is doing. 😃 😊 I enjoyed the first episode of "Remember Me". The younger versions of the main characters were absolutely adorable, and it's nice seeing them just being excited to spend time, being kids.
Hehe.. As DMR said.. like in one scene Mean was deliberately doing those hairdo and everyone was laughing.. and we had that in the 90s.. There were pretty nasty hairdo down under then.. even sometimes i look at family photographs and they are wild.
I think it is interesting that instead of having a main couple and a side couple they have chosen to have two main couples, each with their own story within the main story. I guess it is kinda like the Star and Sky series, kinda like it. The first episode of the second couple was kinda fun, of course they hooked us with a spicey bed scene, but think I like this couple better than the first. See how it goes. Some notes: Just finished Once Again, did not love the series, the story was just to out there and the ending WHAT was that????? BLC did you understand? Fahlanruk, Iam hooked, I really want to see more. Not that it is so great but you know. Eclipse, just when I started to get interested it got stupid. Have to give credit to Neo for deciding to play it serious this time. So tired of seeing him play the goof ball guy. Ai Long Nhai, I agree with you the second episode was good hope they can keep it going. Ghost Host Ghost House, sorry just stupid. Step by Step, nothing I saw makes me want to see more. Big Dragon, don't like the story, don't like the couple, bad acting, I guess look who is producing it. Remember Me, starting out slow, acting not so good, I want to like it, hope it gets better. I do like that nostalgia style. BLC did you watch the two part series Male Entertainer from Wayufilm. I was really expecting to not like it but kinda did like it. These guys do have some skills. I like how they made it like a documentory. Do give them some credit for being willing to talk about politically incorrect things.
The second storyline of Love in the Air, the 'Love Sky ' novel part, the start is okay. Comparatively better but not so good. let's see. I thought I'd bingewatch Once Again, so now I am unsure, should I? Falhanruk... lol.. I am telling you it is my My Boy 2.0. I do like the guy playing Gear, he has this x factor, and I am more excited about Prince and Gear and the other story of Falhan's friends. Eclipse.. still dropped around ep 4 Ai Long nhai.. you know how i feel.. Meen is really good to look at, Ping just 18 and some scenes he is doing good. Ghost House.. I am yet to watch Big Dragon.. come on they spent money on everything except screenplay and director. And yes, when they rely on s*x scenes for their series, they've to make sure the scene is good. People got wrong idea from Kinnporsche. Remember Me.. I kinda liked the first episode.. eps the scenes with the child actors. I am happy to see Title.. let's see how other episodes fare. Male Entertainer was all over my youtube feed.. yet to watch it. *Are you watching Khun Chai (To Sir, With Love) on One 31? I am surprised they provided english subs too, I think i will do a review later on if people fail to notice it*
@@blcritic You have me hooked on Khun Chai now, haha. Just a good old tv drama, with same sex thrown in. Need to watch it some more to see what I think. The subs are not good so a little hard to follow some times. Once Again, if you have limited time I would skip it. It has a few nice moments but the story is a mess and the ending???? Remember Me, I agree the children were not good. Hope it gets better. Ai Long Nhai, it is funny my roommates cousin lives with us and he is just like the character Nhai and kinda looks like him too. So funny for me. Someone commented Nhai is quirky like a Japaness character, I think I agree.

This is what Idea First was good at before they got overwhelmed by the whole Gameboys crazyness, glad they are back on track.

@@blcritic I am waiting for your reaction, it was very graphic but done well. I watched the first episode of Self last night and come on, another gimmick series. I just finished Takara Kun and Amagi Kun and have to say how much I loved that series, I think it really captured young love and the innocence of youth. The actors were amazing, not just the main leads but the two friends as well. Only the Japaness could do something like this, so quirky and real.
🤣🤣
Very funny, loved the review. You know my feelings about Mame, I did not hate the series, it was kinda cute. You know I hate the wifey thing and the spanking and suppository thing is just kinda crossing the line. But as you have pointed out before Mame knows how to sell her product even if it is in bad taste. I do not find the actor who played Rain that interesting and the chemistry of the couple is not there for me. If you see the two actors interviewed, you can see the actor who plays Phayu is really not into the whole ship thing. Maybe the second couple will be better.
I m not finding it 🙄😏😡
I definitely didn't expect much from another Mame series, so I've actually been a bit pleasantly surprised lol I think this one is a bit more coherent than TT or DSN and I can't decide if Mame is conscious or unconscious about this but if you watch the Phayu/Rain story through the lens of brats and praise kink, even the spanking becomes less cringe lol I have no excuse for the suppository scene though!
@@zahrabjinu haha you're right, in that context it actually is also explained by the brat/brat tamer dynamic 🤣
the only thing that gets me going is the chemistry between the actors and nothing else.
What do you think about the second storyline?
So far they are successful in selling the BL.. even though a lot of things could have been better.. even the adult scenes could have bene better. lol
whooo!! I have to prepare myself for this particular read/review!! 😃 😀 😄 😁
Did it help?
Though I laughed, it was only because I cringe at the stupidity of some writers.
hehe
Paiuy plays with Rain's body like it's a musical instrument.
when you know everything is messed up but still watch it for the actors lol I mean thy are too cute for me not to watch them
I came up reading those books,I would carry school two at a time
🤗🤗😁👍👌
The best so far
I just started watching this with my Sunday night Thai BL watch group. It is OK but I admit
seeing that Mame was the creator has me worried. I have low expectations and look at it was a way to watch something with friends
It is not that bad... hehe
@@blcritic I am hearing interesting things a out episode 8….
hehe... may be Mame fans drooling over s*x scenes... lol..
@@blcritic LOL you are not wrong!!
@@blcritic The wig in the trailer was so hilariously bad. As director he is making himself look hilariously bad.
@@civivva4501 I think that's exactly what Mean is doing. 😃 😊
I enjoyed the first episode of "Remember Me". The younger versions of the main characters were absolutely adorable, and it's nice seeing them just being excited to spend time, being kids.
@@VixenByNight72 to the extreme 😃
Some notes:
Just finished Once Again, did not love the series, the story was just to out there and the ending WHAT was that?????
Eclipse.. still dropped around ep 4
Ai Long nhai.. you know how i feel.. Meen is really good to look at, Ping just 18 and some scenes he is doing good.
Ghost House.. I am yet to watch
Big Dragon.. come on they spent money on everything except screenplay and director.
@@blcritic Just watched Two and One, The Idea First's new movie, someone posted it for free , lucky me. Sure it will be taken down by tomorrow knowing them. WOW wow, so good, the story, the acting (with Miggy Jimenez and Paolo Pangilinan), not bl fluff, very graphic, very hard hitting gay drama. This is what Idea First was good at before they got overwhelmed by the whole Gameboys crazyness, glad they are back on track.
Oh my I so wanted to watch Two and One.. after ages a Philippine BL was showing some promise. let it finish.. I have my means of watching these.. I am also @blcritic... lol
I think real life has so much that is interesting and worth talking about. Binge watch it.
Really lost interest in War of Y, so badly writen. There is some good stuff there but they just do not know how to tell a story.
I really don’t like this series i forced myself to watch 3 episodes
hehe.. it is still okay compared to the other currently airing.
