  • This is the 2nd day of OMM Mountain Marathon Event in Snowdonia with YT legend Andy from ( @BackpackingUK)
Apologies again for the poor audio. Had issues with my wind protector on the GoPro in the strong winds so Ive done my best to reduce as much as possible and have added captions to help. I know it's a little annoying but nothing I can do about it.
Day 2 my cramp had improved after lots of sleep, some really good high calories food and finding my electrolytes in my bag so hydrating properly for Day 2! Perfect.
A massive thank you again to @thefellstore who supported us for this event and provided all our food - it was a god send! From high calories meals, to breakfasts, emergency food, Torq electrolytes and performance powders ad even coffee. We couldn't have done it without you.
They have been kind enough to give all our subscribers 10% off storewide using code "KG10" so do take advantage. This is not an affiliate scheme, it's simply a discount for you and nothing comes back to us. their website is www.thefellstore.com and are a local family company.
    What is the OMM?
Held at the end of every October since 1968, ‘The OMM’ is recognised as the gold standard in UK Mountain Challenges. It's a self-reliant 2-day journey through some of the UK’s finest mountain terrain, a new area each year; a true test of mountain craft, resilience & sense of humour.
On the start line, Andy and I were given a map for our chosen course - Medium Score. Once crossing the start line we had to plan our route to find lots of checkpoints finishing at the halfway overnight campsite. This'll had to be my map and compass so no GPS for this one which made it challenging at times. Although really proud with what we achieved!
To complete the race you need to be self-reliant & carry everything you need for the 2 days including the halfway camp. Day 2 you get new checkpoints to find finishing back at the event centre. If you want me to do a gear loadout video or gave any questions feel free to comment below and I'll get straight back to you.
    Hope you enjoy the video.

Glad to see that both of you enjoyed yourselves. And being woken up by bagpipes. That stirs my Scottish heart.

Hahaha it was ace. Reminds me of when I was in Glencoe at a hotel in 2009 the day before doing Ben Nevis. At breakfast they had a guy playing bagpipes. Amazing

@@krisgleave There is just something about the bagpipes. That's for sure.

Well, you guys did well. That was a really cool event . Some of that was really steep, I can imagine that would make some really sore thighs. For only 24 hours' notice, you did a hell of a job. I bet you got a great feeling of accomplishment out of that. Well, congrats, my friend and I will see you on the next adventure.

It was about 10 days notice for the event itself, but I was asked with 24hrs before entry closing if I could do it without knowing anything about it. Zero training too.
Thanks for your support as always Dwayne

Looks great fun really enjoyed watching this, really mks me want to haveca go. Altho do you have to be a serious runner or just bavkpacker?

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  9 месяцев назад +1

I’m sure you could do it. As you will see from my channel, I’m a hiker not a runner. Don’t get me wrong I ran years ago but we only jogged in sections of this. You can get around this hiking but keeping a good pace. We took the challenge just to experience it and get around. If you want a high score you’d need to run. We didn’t and enjoyed it.

@chrisedwards3198 I’m the same. It’s in Scotland next year. There’s a similar event in July in the Lakes next year, very similar setup but not OMM. I’m looking at a challenge in September in the Lakes too.
