DEAR SANTA shines a light on the 100-year-old ‘Operation Santa’ Program of the United States Postal Service. Each year, hundreds of thousands of letters to Santa arrive at Post Offices around the country. Through Operation Santa, the United States Postal Service makes it possible for the public to safely adopt these letters and make children’s dreams come true. The film invites audiences along for the magic of this massive endeavor. Traveling the country, much like Santa does on Christmas Eve, the film focuses on select ‘Operation Santa’ Centers: some in metropolitan areas like the massive operation in New York City and others in small towns where the Post Office is the heart of the community. The film highlights letters where a child is asking for something poignant, something that goes beyond the common wish for a toy. Santa will explain how he enlists kind hearted strangers across the country for these special requests while he concentrates on toy making, and his demanding delivery schedule. This timeless documentary captures the warmth and spirit of Christmastime through the lens of this great American tradition, provoking audiences throughout the world to ask themselves how they can make the world a better place, one gesture at a time.

I cannot wait for this to come out. What I saw of it was so very beautiful. Without a doubt the most beautiful movie I have seen in a very long time. My eyes are still swollen from crying so much. Really really beautiful.

Hey there.. I'm a UK viewer, I watched this today. Now we have NOTHING even close to this in england... There's just one thing I want to ask.. Why are the kids opening the donated gifts BEFORE Xmas DAY ?? And at one point a woman says it's the start of a new year tomorrow...ao why were they late???

I tried the operation santa this year for the first time and it didn't work out for me at all. I chose 5 separate kids letters, wrapped and boxed the toys and took them to the post office. I'm in NY and my first box being shipped to California was $46 for shipping cause it had to be shipped priority. I asked about the flat rate which was in the description and I was shown smaller boxes that I would have to purchase for $16 in which the toys would not have fit. Total shipping costs for all 5 boxes $167.40. I think I paid $100 for all the toys!!!! Can you explain to me what I did wrong? Better ways for me to donate toys if this is going to be the case ;(

For a Englishman this is completely bizarre. The logistics is crazy.. So roughly how many are "adopted' or is it impossible to give figures.
So it's basically a luck of the draw thing and whether ur letter was heart wrenching /touching/sacharine sweet or destitute enough depends on whether u get chosen or not? Is there a criteria they must meet like being unemployed or on low income or is it open to anyone and everyone usa? For someome not from USA I hope u get it seems nice but also a little strange. Thankyou anyone who can reply to me.. And well done anyone who participated.. U have a lovely heart.
Most corporate companies "adopt" letters and then let their employees choose from the pool. I'm not sure how many remote/rural communities get theirs "assigned", but between the various charities and non-profits out there, these kids will get something - even if it's not exactly what they asked for.
