  • Do you like Mount or Side Control Better in BJJ?
    This is the question I got from Shay who feels better from Cross Side / Side Control or whatever you call it. But he wants to be better from Mount.
    In this video I start by sharing how I prefer and preferred Side Control in BJJ as it was very natural for me coming from Wrestling.
    After that I share 2 of my favorite tips for building a stronger Mount in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
    Both of these tips have made my Mount position better for Brazilian Jiujitsu and have also helped a number of my students.
    In both tips if you pay attention you'll notice that I'm dealing with the Bridge. Which is the primary means for most people to knock me off balance.
    By taking away the bridge or by adjusting to it. I can make sure take away one of their best ways to off balance me and leaves me able to finish my attack on them.
    I hope this video helps with your Mount position in BJJ.

    Knowing when to be tight and loosen up has been a major flaw in my mount game. This was really helpful!

    Great tips. I will definitely try it as my mount is my weakest point in my game. It looks like I kept everything too tight. Thanks 🤙

    I really like that transition from mount to back mount as they turn. I’m only 2 months in and it seems like whenever I actually get to mount i immediately lose it from aggressive bridging. I did finally get my first submission yesterday though, the plain Jane arm bar from mount :)

      Plain Jane armbar is always a good sub from white to black belt.

    Great video, just starting to get a feel for mount and when to disengage slightly like you were saying. It's great to go from mount to the back when they present the side to you. I will also go from mount and get off near their head pick them up and get into back control. I only can do this with smaller partners but it is fun. I'm going to go with my dad one day to Kentucky when he's their for work and go train with you guys. You have helped me in so many ways dude.

    Hi Chewy,
    I am a white belt with about 6 weeks of training under my belt. I just recently competed to see what the experience was like, i lost by points on both fights. I enjoyed the experience but I am feeling really discouraged about my Weight. I am constantly getting flipped. I weigh 90lbs and compete in the 119 and under category. Do you have any tips for the lighter competitor? I watch your videos every day and they are very very helpful! I was able to use your video on a baseball choke when rolling at practice!Thank you!

    I definitely need to work on that transition to modified mount to get it sharper again, I've been using the mount position you showed for a while and I've started to be a little too set on holding that, it's cost me getting swept a few times when I shouldn't have.

    I personally don't like being in full mount position, I prefer side mount and back mount as well. The only time I get full mount is if I'm either tired or lazy and I either hook my Grape Vines or get into Riding The Bull to remain on top depending on what submission I'm aiming for. If I'm going for like a Kimura or an Ezekiel Choke or maybe a four arm choke, ima use my Grape Vines. But if I plan to use a Triangle, Omoplata, Chicken Wing submission, Double Wrist Lock, Gogo Plata (Very rare, I only do this on beginners) then I like the Riding the Bull submission. I do get armbars alot from North South and Knee On Belly, but full mount is tough unless u have a beginner for an opponent.

    • @walkingcorpse1224
      @walkingcorpse1224 6 лет назад

      Steve MacInnis Ya I rarely get an armbar from full mount. I've forced it before, but man I give up alot of my own defense for that and it's just not worth it. Even if my opponent is really weak, it just takes too much time and effort to pull it off. 🤣

As well as advice on a small 184 lb girl like myself rolling with an almost 300 lb guy that likes to smother.

      @jstar6543 6 лет назад +1

      Alpha Business My daughter is12 and in the adult classes.Take your time rolling go slow.,learn from your more experienced belts.Don't challenge them,your young embrace the experience!!!!!!

    • @psyience3213
      @psyience3213 6 лет назад +1

      Most people will just match your intensity, so if you're worried about getting hurt, dont go full strength. Remeber there's no expectations, you're rolling with grown adults. Have fun and try stuff. I love rolling with the teenagers i have a loy of fun trying to be gentle and using pure technique.
      Dont roll with the ducks in the class, if there are any.

    • @jstar6543
