I'm glad to say I've hit 1000+ subs with just my iPhone, window light, and a stack of books as a tripod. It's possible 🙌🏻
Faithtasticness whoo, congrats! :)
Faithtasticness that is really awesome Congrats!!
Faithtasticness congratulations on your subscribers
Thats awesome!! Good for you!
Faithtasticness I'll try to do the same :)
I started posting on my channel 7.5 months ago. I film on my smartphone, with a very cheap tripod. I use my craft lamp to light my polymer clay tutorials and natural light for the rest. I use the built in RUclips editor. I have just passed the 2,500 Subscriber mark and have had almost 90,000 views. Go for it guys, it IS possible!
Unruly Housewife For sharing, You earned a very new subscriber.
Unruly Housewife - thanks.. just watched and saw your comment.. I’m just reluctant to start BUT REALLY WANT TO SO BAD.. I have so many ideas, just need to focus on THE idea to start with..!! Thanks for just the little push forward.. NEED MORE 😂😂😂
Ok here it goes for what its worth. I don't want my own channel, but the other day I was searching on the internet for older dogs in pain, or in distress, and Lord and behold one of my videos I took of this dog came up. I'm always taking videos of my dogs (6) and to be honest with you, I just don't know how that particular video ended up on RUclips. I didn't post it on RUclips, I didn't post it to anything, so I was in shock. So, I watched it and remembered that awful day, and I even wrote a comment since it was already on RUclips. I don't even know how to start a RUclips channel, and again, I don't want to, too busy doing other things. Not saying this for pity as far as the video is concerned, just saying it because today's technology is beyond my comprehension. My fur babies and yours truly are doing just fine without the extra time it will take away from my dogs. Happy 2018 everyone. 🐕🐩🐶🍖🐾
Unruly Housewife thx for telling
Wow look how far you've come now. This instills a shred of confidence lol
Yeah I remember even a few months ago using a bed sheet as a backdrop and lamps as lighting. Still use iPhone and iMovie and got 60,000+ subs 😂 It’s definitely possible.
I'm so broke I need a video called, "How to start a RUclips channel when you're homeless"
dude forget that I have a laptop that can't even run among us nicely,
Here's some of my tips for starting from the bottom:
- Focus on the content and quality of the video over the equipment used. If your users are engaged you can always upgrade later.
- You can start off with your phone or even a nice camera that's a bit older. Some people also use their webcam in their computer. Also there are cheap lav mics or usb mics on amazon. Some people also finance their equipment too. Trust me your viewers will hear you a lot better even with a cheaper mic
- Try to film when there is good lighting outside or even add lamps around your filming area. You could also buy some cheaper ones online or used ones for film making.
- There are several free softwares for editing (even that come with most computers for free). If you can only upload one quality video a week over three at first, then only upload one. You want your video to look like you spent time editing on it.
- Try not to make a super lengthy video even though youtube rewards you for it. Make a video that gets to all your points and not one of you blabbing extra. Viewers will get disinterested in this.
- Practice talking out loud and filming several times before your first upload. Even write notes before your video of talking points if that helps. Try to sound confident when you speak even though it can be a nervous thing to do.
😎
m i the only one here who thinks that these guys deserve a lot more subscribers than they have now ?
rewatch this video and only watch the person that isn't talking...
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
that awkward head nod 😆
MC TorNato hahahhahaha! Lol
MC TorNato sure!
MC TorNato done
Lori P. Omg Thanks for making me notice that lmao now I can't watch this without see it😆😆 Their taking turns being a bobblehead
My tip of the day? If you cannot afford lighting, just steal your mom's lamps and set them around you for great lighting!!
I don't know anyone who does that though....
Or get a shit ton of desk lamps from your local five and dime aka dollar stores.
My cousin and I are starting on RUclips. We both start with no subscribers, and we notice that it's SOOO hard to get at least 100 subscribers! 😅
Gabiche lol passing the love i just subscribe to your channel :)
I feel your pain.
*Throws my subscription at you*
Ikr ill sub to you
You have 1000 now
Use a smartphone and edit on powerdirector and use an old bike light for lighting also use your earphone mic with a clip to attach yo your shirt BOOM get started on RUclips
Really...
This is actually pretty creative, and i will try it. But wouldn't that mean that you'll be too close to the phone since the cable wouldn't let u move farther back?
EXCUSE ME GUYS BUT. WHAT IS THE USE OF EARPHONE MIC?? I BADLY NEED TO START A YT CHANNEL
1. Start with what you have
2. Content value > Production value
3. Collaborate
4. MaKE MonEy
Thats it
One of my most popular videos was filmed with a cheap $59 hand camcorder that I bought at Walmart years ago. I agree, content is really what matters most. Great video!!
MommyReporter send the link for the video I'll leave a like :)
MommyReporter love your channel. Nice job!
MommyReporter subscribe and ill sub back
MommyReporter subbed. Sub back!!!!!
You That Right The Logitech C920 Is $58 You Should Have Buyed That
So, for anyone looking for a cheap and easy way to record audio, I have found that Rock Band usb miss have a really surprisingly good quality, especially if you don't have a lot of money to sound proof your area or eq the room. Just a Rock Band mic on a mic stand just off camera or even right in front of you if you're doing gaming or voice over work. Ive used these microphones in a pinch even to record full band versions of songs I have written and they have just a really decent quality. Well, i hope this helped someone. Good Luck :3
I agree that it's more about the content value than the production value. I've been seing steady growth on my channel and I use natural light and my cellphone.
I'll be upgrading soon tho
From the ages of 8-17 I did tons of stuff to earn money. I cut hair, I babysat, I did yard work, I took care of people's pets, I sold my artwork, I went door to door selling suckers, Lemonade stands, sold my old stuff. You really just gotta be creative, motivated, and connect with lots of people.
I was using my Webcam and using natural lighting and my floor lamps in the evening. Plus I found inspiration in everyday reading material as the foundation for topics and conversations with my friends as well. Plus I add a bit of spice with including of products & magazines/books and now I'm adding crafting and cooking.
The advice I would give to people just starting out, well in addition to the advice in this video, would be to: Be active in the community of your niche, find other creators doing what you're doing and collaborate with similar size channels.
Examples:
Art channels, one artist sketches and the other colours.
Gaming channels, playing the other channels main game so that one player is teaching the less experienced player. This can give you ideas for advice to give viewers while playing.
Craft or building, work together with someone on a project but go big, bounce ideas off each other and do something you wouldn't usually do on your own.
Review channel, review or make a tutorial for a product that maybe another channel sells and then see if they'll feature your video on their channel. - I did this a few years ago and the video has 200k+ views on their channel. I should have stuck with RUclips and uploaded consistently at this point and this could have launched my channel.
Hope some of this advice can help someone.
Other than the gear, what is there to spend money on for RUclips?
Everybody has a cellphone these days, and if your content isn't good enough with a cellphone to earn enough to pay for something better (not necessarily bring in a real income, but just enough to buy a "real camera", even if it's used), then you need to work on your content before you work on the gear.
Money and gear isn't what's holding you back.
John Aldred | The filming isn't hard but getting noticed is hard
Got that right!!!!
John Aldred my problem is the type of videos I want to do... I want to do video essays not necessarily showing my faces but showing images, and clips relating to what I’m talking about, for that I need good editing software which is exspensive
I dont have even a room 😂
Going to be honest I can't remember how I came across this channel but its really helping me. I just started up my channel a couple of days ago being a Vlog of my college life. I notice I keep coming back to this channel because it's honestly helpful. Not the "filler" most people get. This is all good info and nice to hear.
thank you for this! As a broke college student, this hits me on a deep level. Lol. I started with a camera we already had around the house (costs $80 on eBay). I now have a new camera which was $113 and I recently bought a tripod which costed me $3 on eBay so I've only spent $116 on my channel. :)
Mam what r u doing
Like anything in life ... stop thinking about doing it and just freaking CREATE. Start with what you have and follow your passions, but also watch thrift stores and Craigslist for deals on the things you need. With just a little money even, you can really improve the quality of your videos.
RUclips
Preach!
Are any other small youtubers binge watching "how to start a RUclips channel" videos? Cause I am any one do a collab?😂
I am. I've been postponing doing this for a while because I dont know necessarily what I'm good at. Thats the problem because even if I upload a video I still don't know how to make a thumbnail.
Hey! I just wanted to let you know that you two are literally the reason I got back into RUclips. I watched one of your videos yesterday about excuses and to JUST DO IT! SO I just finished uploading my first video in 7 years 2 HOURS AGO! I'm so excited to stay motivated and get in the game and want to thank you for all the hard work and effort you go through just to create content for content creators! :)
Thank you! You both got me excited for all this now😊
I started by using the camera I already had. It is a Nikon D3300 with kit lens, which is not a camera for videos. The auto focus is slow, for no reason the lighting is changing in the middle of filming.. And I cannot use tethering. But this is what I had for taking photos of the makeup of my clients, so I will use it until I save some money and upgrade. Thank you for the tips guys, awesome video as always!
Vasilikis Beauty Tips Iq
I started off this channel with a SD camcorder which I still have then when I realised my digi cam was HD I switched. However I love tech, I can't afford DSLR just yet but I was able to to get a sony alpha which is amazing. I have resources just need to focus and get content out. My camera upgrades have come in line with when I normally would upgrade a camera and not just for the sake of doing videos. Multi purpose use.
Really appreciate all the videos you do and the advice you and encouragement you give!!
Thank you for this video guys trying to get a channel going and it's fun your guys advise is gold. Great work! And thank you!!
I'm a graphic designer that uses the camera from the company I work for lol. Use what your resources! If you want to do RUclips bad enough, you'll make a way!
Depression Talks With Immanuel your channel looks QUITE interesting, so I subbed you. Please check mine out, and if you like it, subscribe. If not, it's still cool anyway. ✨✨
I've been making money since I was 7. There's always a way.
TJ Gessler Exactly. my first job was at Wolfgang Puck. I lied about my age LOL. I was only 13. They thought I was 16.
When there is a will there is a way
My son is 7 and has a job cutting the neighbors grass.
What r u doing now
Great video. Always helps to hear new tips!
Thank you for the tips you have provided!
Cool tips, definitely growing a channel without money is very difficult, but not impossible!
When I first started vlogging I used an old iPhone and apps to edit. It was hard but it was worth it. When I filmed and needed a tripod I used my Dad's broken 100lb metal tripod from the 70's hahaha. Sometimes I stack things to hold it. If you have the drive to make videos Don't let lack of equipment stop you! I watch some channels who are "poor production quality" and they are awesome.
Justin & Sarah VLOGS. Salute for the creativity.. Sometimes normal stuff around the house can help save money and still get the same quality out.
SAFADOVIC 💯
Thanks guys for your inspiration and encouragement! ❤️
Glad I got a whole bunch of tips to help my channel grow. I've been worried about resources, when it's all about the YOU.
Love these tips. But my problem is how do you advertise your vids without money.
Hi Sean and Benji! Totally agree, production value is nice to see, but content is really what matters most. That said, I think lighting and a basic lapel mic/digital recorder are great early investments once you save some funds!
Botanarama I could not agree with you more. Great content and consistency are key for building a successful RUclips channel.
Botanarama well said
Hey I started using my iPhone 7 plus to do my videos. I have two. They are doing better than I ever thought it could be. It makes me proud of myself to know I did that, and people like it.
Just started my channel using my iPad mini and natural light and iMovie for editing. RUclips gear are so pricey. Thank guys for the video. Very inspirational
I would love to start a RUclips channel but I just do videos on my tablet and that really helped me and I just wish I could be a RUclipsr
Jose Munoz what's stopping you?
Could you make a video please on the best way to reinvest money back into your RUclips video 👍👊
I am creating a platform that is great for you, more monetization share than RUclips, and better website functionality to share your content, quick and easy. HowClip.
You guys are so inspiring! You always seem to be that push we need when doubt sets in. Thank you! Have a Blessed day!
Thank you once again. I love the principle of Keep it simple, focus on content. I love you both. ❤️🙏
Owning a MacBook makes the editing videos super convenient. I'm looking to invest in a tripod next. No need to spend so much money running a RUclips channel. Great video, Guys.
Sean's channel Think Media TV has great tips on gear for all budgets
Sam and Stephen Sean's channel is is awesome. I actually incorporate a lot of techniques when creating videos😊 Such an awesome guy.

I just got started. Bought a cheap samsung vlogging style camera and just started making videos. You can see the quality difference in production value AND content value from the beginning of my channel. Unfortunately, my travel channel is a bit dormant, but I have another channel I regularly post to.
Tks men! You're amazing.
For this vid I got a ad about making a u tube channel
The movement of your hands gets me dizzy. lol. thanks for the tips.
stop watching the hands ...lol.
I am just starting out and have been using my phone for a camera and microphone. I asked for an action camera for Christmas and encourage people to ask friends and family for some start up money and invest in a low budget camera with 1080p. Once you have that you are golden. Supply the content you love to create and people who like your content will follow you.
Watched this late but very helpful. Thanks guys.
Do work!
What is The best way to get good ideas??
Web Fam 4ever! First you need a good niche for your channel. A good niche could really halo build a great channel.

-Step 4: Make some Money
😂😂
thank you guys for the inspirational videos and 100% good information!!
Thanks for the tips guys! Love the end bit 😄
I am 11 old and want to make my channel famous
Although I agree that 'starting with what you have' is a good tip, I really don't think it's practical anymore. The reason that 'big' RUclipsrs were able to start off small is because everyone was at the same level in the beginning, but nowadays there's more competition than ever. People simply don't want to be watching someone with lower video quality when they could watch literally anyone else do it better.
Thanks for the advice!!😁
Just Subscribed to your channel I've been thinking about starting a channel for many years now ive been defeating myself and letting my dream slip away but now I'm ready to dedicate my life to starting a youtube channel. You guys seem like good people and your videos inspire me and I finally hear a voice in my head screaming YOU CAN DO IT! thanks guys!
Casey Neistat is the most boring of all popular RUclipsrs. I honestly don't see how anyone can even watch his elongated videos.
Honestly, I don't find anything about him or his videos to be interesting. Just my opinion. It usually differs from the norm anyway.
I am creating a platform for How-To videos, maximum length, 2 minutes. HowClip
MudRFunR yup true
I do many how to's. You can't even START to explain things I do, in 2 minutes or less.
I am in the middle, some of his videos are good, some not. But still better than mine.
Thank you for all the input, tips, suggestions,..... knowledge👍👍
I am below novice when it comes to a youtube channels. I dont even think anyone has watched my vids besides me. I finally am gathering supplies to official start a "running" channel. This video helps a lot for the very little guys on here lol. Wish me luck in the next couple weeks with trying *fingers crossed*
Great video guys!
Thank you for this video!😃
I just watched this and I really feel like trying RUclips out I been watching for years and always wanted to do it but I just felt that no one would watch but I'm gonna try it and see where things lead because I honestly love RUclips
thank you guys so much for the great video.
Thank you guys 👍🏾
thanks for the tips!
I got started on RUclips really quite recently. I own a Social Media Management & Marketing company & needed a way to get more people to my website & services. After watching you guys channels I was sold I needed to invest more time, energy & resources into video production & RUclips.
I'm still relatively new & learning something new seemingly every day & video I do. Thanks for all the tips guys!
Eddie Garrison social media is the best way for promoting and marketing a business. You're on the right path bro.
Thanks, Juice. Just trying to build my RUclips audience now as the Social Media business is growing nicely right now.
Eddie Garrison Good luck my man. Happy 2017.
Another great video guys! Thanks!
so helpful thank you !!
We've started with what we have but are saving up for the equipment we want for our daily family vlogs. We are a one income family but budgeting is key. We thought when we started it would just be for fun but now, now we love it. I don't think we will stop after a year like we originally planned.
thank you guys for creating this video
You guys are really helpful. I hope these tips start me a RUclips channel. This really inspired me. Thank doods
I'm a gamer and I started on RUclips recently (April this year) with just my laptop, a phone to record my voice and a bad Internet connection. Just starting out is difficult but I dare say I love the journey 👌. Thank you for the amazing video guys, I not only enjoyed it but found it really helpful!
I love this it's very encouraging thank you!!!!😁
The bonus of starting a maker channel (first video posting before New Year's) is that I can make things to sell on Etsy and eBay. And I can make some equipment I don't have, like sliders and a replacement tripod, and of course create content along the way.
Also eBay is good for extra cash from unused crap in the back of closets and the attic. One thing I haven't heard anybody else talk about, and it only brings a little extra, is gathering anything with metal that is broken or won't sell (think VCR), and take it to salvage.
Great info I will be starting mine real soon!!
Preach! It's all about the content!
As ever great advice guys!
Helpful video, thanks guys!
this is so helpful thank you so much
I started my youtube channel with my 2mp camera smartphone, and edit with that smartphone too, glad to say now i am a freelance video maker
I started with my phone and my computer's webcam! As incentive for a new camera, which I just received as a Christmas gift, I made a promise to myself to upload one video per week for about six months to prove to myself I was serious about being a RUclipsr before I could invest in a Cannon! Thanks for what you guys do!
I’m at that place... but excited so so thrilled about this... gonna try going live today for a few minutes 😏😎
thanks so helpful xxx
Sooo inspiring!! Thank you guys!!!! 😭😭😭
Thx guys for these tips!
Thanks for the motivation truly☺☺ I didn't know what to do during Corona quarantine and I m starting a RUclips channel right now!!
Great video and advice, straight to the point of whats the most important 😄😄😄 thank you guys
Thank you guys really helpful
