The Lifers' performance at the Blue Skies Music festival - August 6 2023

The Lifers, led by sisters Liv and Anita Cazzola, are an art-folk/rock collective based in Guelph. Their intertwined voices dynamically convey vulnerability and strength, juxtaposing tenderness and explosive energy, sometimes within a single breath. Softly plucked strings, accordion swells, and lush cello and upright bass arrangements give way to rip-roaring drums, soaring melodies and overdriven frenetic strums.
Liv and Anita's collaboration is based on their connection as sisters, and their relationship to land, ancestry, and radical care. Their songs explore notions of home, family and community, highlighting the beauty, vulnerability and power of nature, challenging both genre and audience. In this performance from summer 2023, The Lifers' thunderous six-piece band challenges the boundaries of folk music, infusing elements of orchestral, ambient, prog, and metal.
